Well, you've read the notes, the notes were mine all mine, and now it is time for you to post until the ME cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PLETHORA!

Kritzerland is proud to present a new film music CD release:
UNCHAINED MELODIES
The Film Themes of Alex North
Composed and Conducted by Alex North
Unchained Melodies – The Film Themes of Alex North covers the first seven years of his film scoring journey. And what a first seven years it was, creating one memorable score after another, beginning with his game-changing score for A Streetcar Named Desire. His was a completely unique and fresh voice into the world of film music, and he followed Streetcar with other great scores, including Les Miserables, The Rose Tattoo, Viva Zapata!, Desirée, The 13th Letter, The Bachelor Party, The Racers, The Bad Seed, I’ll Cry Tomorrow, Stage Struck, and, of course, the film that contained one of the biggest pop hits of all time, Unchained, which brought forth the immortal “Unchained Melody.”
Of course, North’s glory years were still to come, with such classic and iconic scores as Spartacus, The Children’s Hour, All Fall Down, Cheyenne Autumn, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Shoes of the Fisherman, Bite the Bullet, and many others, including his great score for Rich Man, Poor Man on television. But he was busy composing right to the very end, with Under the Volcano, Prizzi’s Honor, The Dead, Good Morning, Vietnam, and his final film, The Last Butterfly. Not to mention his legendary discarded score for Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. He was nominated for an Oscar fifteen times, never taking home the prize. But in 1986, that oversight was rectified when the Academy gave him an honorary Oscar.
We lost the brilliant Alex North on September 8, 1991, shortly after this album was released on CD by Bay Cities. For this reissue, we’ve done further work on cleaning up the sound, and we’ve included a wonderful bonus track of North’s classical work, Holiday Set, close to twenty minutes in length.
Alex North’s music was inventive, unique, original, and certainly influential from start to finish. There was simply no one like him. So, here are the stunning film themes of Alex North, a celebration of one of the finest film composers who ever lived.
UNCHAINED MELODIES – THE FILM THEMES OF ALEX NORTH is limited to 500 copies only and priced at $19.98, plus shipping. Please note: This is a PRE-ORDER. CDs will ship by the second week of August, but never fear, we’ve actually been averaging three to five weeks early in terms of shipping ahead of the official ship date. To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com. Also note that your PayPal receipt is the only receipt you get – we don’t send out confirmations beyond that.

First post after BK's UNCHAINED MELODIES announcement!
-
CD has been ordered!
-
BK, has the cost of shipping gone up? I just noticed that this and my last order cost more. I understand needing to raise prices. I was just curious.
-
And now, I need to get some sleep, so I shall.
Have a good day, all!
-
Yes, postage has steadily gone up and we finally had no choice to raise it, even though I hate doing it. The helper showed me clearly that we were losing money on every single package. It's still not as high as she wanted it, but I can live with it here for a while.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have one more chart to work on before I head down to City Center this morning.
-
I tell myself, I'll sleep after Thursday's band reading.
-
Annabelle and I made our patrol. We ran into my neighbor the jazz pianist who sat with Annabelle and me on the steps in the landing. When Annabelle got bored, she walked down the hall and began mewing loudly and insistently. I told Mark, I'm being summoned. He went out for his run and I walked back to Annabelle. As soon as I was in front of her, she ran at me, jumped onto my shorts. catching me at the waist, and climbed my body to my shoulder, where she perched. We got on the elevator and rode up to three. She's happy to be home.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy 91st birthday, Dad!
-
Vixmom, it sounds like you’re having fun. The necklace and earrings sound wonderful.
-
Last night’s film, The Guardians, had one of Michel Legrand’s last scores. There’s an extra on that I’ll watch later.

T.O.D.
I never met Alex North, but I do have s story abut him...not in one of my published memoirs...in which he is a very minor character.
Back in my early days as a publicist (i.e. late 1960s), one of my clients was a "B" or "C" film producer/director, Larry Buchanan, a nice man. I have yet to see any of his completed films, but that's beside the point.
He had just returned from Tunisia where he'd filmed a picture, THE REBEL JESUS, with an unknown cast, and he wanted me to help promote it, so that he could get a distributor.
He screened the picture for me, and it was...a picture.
One thing I did notice is that it seemed like two different actors were playing "Jesus".
"That's true," Buchanan told me. "Halfway through the filming, the first actor cast as 'Jesus' quit. Actually, he was beginning to think he WAS Jesus.
"We didn't have the money to re-shoot those scenes, so we re-cast the part and kept our new 'Jesus' in subdued lighting or shot him from the back."
The one "name" associated with the movie was Alex North, who Buchanan had hired to compose the score.
By the time Buchanan and I parted company (on friendly terms), he had still not sold his film, and we lost contact with each other. However, years later, as I discovered via the imdb, the picture had been "released" in 2004 under the title: THE COPPER SCROLL OF MARY MAGDALENE.
Where it has played, I have no idea.

Makes perfect sense.

Happy 91st birthday, Dad!
A Very Happy Birthday to John's Dad!
-
And this Saturday (June 22) was my parents' 55th wedding anniversary!
-
George, good news with your friend David. Healing vibes for him.
Thanks, Jane.
-
Good morning, all.
Woops. Afternoon!
-
Super tired from all that was involved with our closing show yesterday, so this is "mostly" a ME day, just taking it easy.
-
Congratulations and happy anniversary to George’s parents.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep. More garage stuff is gone, but I'm guessing there's still two trips left - endless and their truck is just not very big. Once the next batch o' stuff goes, maybe tomorrow, then everything will get easier. But, disturbingly, I have not found the tapes I'm looking for and I'm pretty sure I've now been through all the boxes.
-
Congratulations and happy anniversary to Georges parents.
Thanks, John!

~~~Tape Finding Vibes for BK!!~~~
-
There are two things (of mainly personal interest — could be others, but these two have been on my mind over the past several months) that I have had to all but write off as lost. Which is inexplicable and just plain disturbing. But I believe I’ve looked, more than once, in every conceivable spot for them. It’s sad and frustrating.
Home from City Center. I'm very tired.
I know! I can't find my copy of Kurt Weill Revisited (http://www.kritzerland.com/weill_rev.htm)! I KNOW I received it, but I can't find it anywhere in my cubicle here at work, and it's not in the only two boxes of CDs that I've recently taken home. I just don't know where it could be. :P
Thunderstorms and lightning
Very, very frightening
-
Yet the raindrops hitting the window look lovely as they reflect the colored lights that swathe the building.
-
Back from a pastrami sandwich, putting gas in the motor car (sixty bucks did not quite fill it up - sick of this), and picking up a package. Guess I'll go organize boxes in the garage. Lots of shelves are now empty.
-
I hope JB enjoyed his vacation.
I have some friends who are taking a cruise down the Danube and posting many photos...it is very interesting.
I expect the locations are beautiful.
And this Saturday (June 22) was my parents' 55th wedding anniversary!
Happy 55th to your parents 🥂
Anniversary and birthday vibes!
Finding the tapes vibes for MR BK.
Perhaps they are with DR CHAS SMITH's items and my files from the 50th High School Reunion from April, 2018, that have gone missing from my house.
-
Maybe I'll take some photos of the set tonight....time will tell.
Happy 55th to your parents 🥂
You are welcome.
Been in the garage most of this day - organizing, moving boxes of CDs off the floor and onto the empty shelves. I'm still hopeful we can get 'em all up there.
-
If not, we'll take some of the ones I know I won't need to the other place. But it's so nice to be able to walk around in there.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I've always loved UNCHAINED MELODY. I'm looking forward to the new CD.
-
Did anyone see the movie UNCHAINED? I recall having a conversation about it with the owner of Video Vault in Alexandria. The movie seems to have fallen into oblivion.
-
I have no news.
TTFN.
Monday evening greetings! After 3 and a half very full days of ALA, Richard and I went to Capital Burger for lunch today. Then we taxied to DAR headquarters and got all registered for Continental Congress, which begins tomorrow (gala opening night is Wednesday). The walk from there to where we catch our Metro train is longer than I thought, but at least we learned that today and have come up with a coping plan. We got “home” about 4, after picking up some sandwiches for supper. We did laundry and chilled and even got to watch A STAR IS BORN on HBO.
Richard is crashing and it won’t be long for me...
-
Page two?
-
Really?
-
Three!
-
pAGE THREe?
-
Really?
-
There's a featurette with Michel Legrand recording the music for the film, The Guardians. He was very old, very fragile, yet full of music and life.
-
Very busy day today
-
Multiple trips to Target. Walmart. Michael's, Joanne's, Dollar Tree for stuff
-
We did treat ourselves to breakfast at Cracker Barrel
-
Made up the gift bags for the little kids attending: ( we gave 6 on our side ages 4-9)
-
Each has an age appropriate coloring book, a box of crayons, a box of colored pencils, a sharpener and a stuffed Micky or Minnie
-
They'll get those at the rehearsal dinner
-
Then it was time to dress for our 2 PM with the wedding coordinator
-
Vixdad wanted to give the coordinator a tip after the do if all went well...I pushed for a nice card with a written note if appreciation and a tip today
-
He grudgingly agreed to my plan
-
Several things that were issues and might cost more money at the meeting were resolved at no cost to us in a later email...along with a thanks for the card and its contents
-
So I'm happy about that
-
After the meeting we had dinner with the kids then went back to our unit
-
My soon to be son in law and I went fabric shopping for tulle for the wedding arch
-
Vixter and Vixdad stayed behind to practice their Daddydaughter dance
-
After we completed our various tasks the kids went home
-
And I removed bar code labels from 75 bottles of wine and added personalization label as to those same bottles
-
So the adult wedding favors are done
-
Then Vixdad and I made one more Walmart run
-
Drove through Arbys
-
And that was our day
-
Hes in bed and I am soon to join him
-
To.orrow will be another busy day
-
Good night
Fun 😊
I look forward to seeing photos of the wine bottles.
-
Four!
-
You know, Vixmom, you could have given each of the guests a painting and drank the wine while you were painting.
:)
-
Honestly, your day sounds exhausting. I got tired reading about it.
-
I'm late for bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Page four? Really?
-
It's been an all music kind of evening. I pulled out a bunch of FSM CD soundtracks that I'm sure I never bothered to listen to - some pretty great stuff. Now playing: Khartoum and The Mosquito Squadron. The latter is kind of a majorly great score.
-
I think the cover for Unchained Melodies is beautiful.
-
I am going to read a bit and hope I fall asleep.
-
Scanning lots and lots of photographs.
-
Good evening.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
What is this page four shit?
-
Hi, George.
-
Hi, jan.
-
This weekend, my phone's ear speaker started getting all staticky.
-
:o
-
I used my speaker phone speaker and that still worked.
-
Hello, my darlings. Hope you had a fabulous day. I'm finally getting caught up on the sleep I lost because of the peacock screeching. Fortunately the bird seems to have flown the coop as I haven't heard it the last three nights.
-
Tonight, I took apart my phone AGAIN and adjusted the connections AGAIN and it seems to be working well AGAIN! Whew!
:D
-
Hi, jan.
-
Sounds like your phone doesn't like you much.
-
I did make a potentially damaging mistake when I was taking apart my phone. ::)
-
I forgot to eject the micro SD/SIM card tray! :o
-
I could've done some damage if I hadn't finally figured it out, but I did, and all is well.
-
Is that a euphemism?
-
Apparently not.
-
Euphemism for what?
-
Apparently not.
No, it's not.
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
Cha-cha, tango, waltz, hip-hop? Fan dance?
-
Cha-cha, tango, waltz, hip-hop? Fan dance?
Your choice, jan. ;)
-
I'll cha-cha, you fan dance and don't forget your pearls.
-
I think Tom should waltz.
-
I'll cha-cha, you fan dance and don't forget your pearls.
Sounds like a plan, jan. ;)
-
An-a-one, an-a-two!
-
An-a-one, an-a-two!
Get down, get funky...get back up again!
-
I think Tom should waltz.
Oh sure, give the waltz to the crippled guy in the chair!
-
Honey, if I get funky, I can't get back up again without help. :)
-
I hope you two fine people will excuse me, but I think I am trying to fight off a cold and a sore throat.
-
I figured the waltz would be more graceful for you than hip-hop.
-
Warm salt water gargle!
-
Warm salt water gargle!
That would assume that I have managed to unpack the salt.
-
I took some nighttime cold medicine, and now I am going to try and sleep.
-
Until tomorrow!
-
Sleep well and feel better!
-
Sleep well and feel better!
~~~Ditto!!~~~
-
Good night, Tom.
