Title: OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX
Post by: bk on July 26, 2019, 12:06:54 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like oil and water, and now it is time for you to post until the oil and water cows come home.

Why did I bother to text George back at 4:30, if he wasn’t going to pass on that I was fine?

I was going to post this last night, but I took too long with my one-fingered typing, and the day got locked before I could post it.  Fortunately, I was able to save it, and here it is:

Very sorry about that!  I got busy at work, and then I actually got locked out of the building for a while!  Fortunately, not for the rest of the evening.  Three other people were there, and I could see them through a window, but they were back in the computer room and couldn't really see me and definitely couldn't hear me pounding on the window.

Then since I came home, I've been experimenting with my new (to me) DVD burner.  One of my two older ones totally crapped out on me and this one just arrived today.  This is a different brand and it has a larger hard disc drive, but it doesn't have the same features as my previous one.  An absolute requirement when I was looking for a replacement was that it needed to be able to cut out commercials, and this one can, but the way the options work are more cumbersome. :-\ At least, I still have my other older DVD burner.

After feeding the cats, I set the alarm for 7:45.  The next thing I knew, it was 8:45.  I slept quite poorly last night, but Annabelle and Thatch stayed with me through the night.  Stella prefers to sleep on the throw rug next to the bed.  As a consequence, I too often step on her when I get up.  I worry about injuring her.

DR George, what kind of DVD burner(s) do you have?

Mine is just the drive that came in this six-year-old HP laptop. I still plan to pick up an external Blu-ray burner one of these days.

I only know that the gravy boat means oil because one of my brothers told me.

For some reason, you are not supposed to put water directly into the radiator - at least in my PT Cruiser - there is a reservoir that looks like the thing you put your windshield washer fluid in.

However it is WAY BACK under the windshield and really impossible to reach.....

I wish MR BK had taken a photo of the face of the Jiffy Lube man when he told him the story.

I have an external Memorex burner that works fine.....no real extras...depends on the burning program I use....usually ConvertX.

The internal CD/DVD drive in my HP desktop stopped working about 13 months after I bought the computer - but I think I wrote about that here.

Has anyone here tried that new ( well at least I'm just hearing about it) keto diet?

It's not new.  The Atkins diet plan is like a modified keto diet.  It's high fat, medium protein and very low carbs.  A friend of mine has been on it for a while and it helps with some issue that she has, but it's too extreme for me because I'm too much of a picky eater to be able to stick to it. ::)

Larry, can you move the rug a little farther away from your bed, or slightly off to the side from where you normally step?  A little adjustment like that can make all the difference. :)

Mine is just the drive that came in this six-year-old HP laptop. I still plan to pick up an external Blu-ray burner one of these days.

ChasSmith, my older (and I think easier to use) DVD burner is a Panasonic DMR-EH50.  I assume that this has a 50GB hard drive.  There's also an 80GB version.  This can make a simple but nice DVD looking menu.  There's also an E50 without a hard drive that records directly to a DVD (I accidentally bought that before I bought the Philips), but you can't edit, so what good is that?? :P
Title: Re: OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX
Post by: George on July 26, 2019, 12:40:53 PM
The DVD burner that I just received yesterday is a Philips 3575H DVD Recorder with a 160GB hard drive.  This DVD menu (that I've been able to tell, so far) is not pleasant looking, just functional.  When I get home, I can take pictures and you can see the difference.

And neither of them can record/burn in HD, only standard def.

DR VIXMOM that is true.  However since I had just met him and he was new to the group - I thought I would wait until he got back from Hawaii before I asked him to take off his shirt.

I did however tell him at which point he would be coming onstage without his shirt and he mimed it.....

The problem is of course the microphone pak and wire....so he will probably just be shirtless for that one brief scene and wear a tank top t-shirt for the other scene....

The somewhat new bar tender accidentally order shrimp on my salad instead of salmon.  I never order shrimp.  We were fine and he admitted his mistake, something this restaurant is quick to do & we appreciate.  To make up for it he gave us/me a bag of their caramel corn.  I am going to be good and not open it.  I will save it for our neighbor who will enjoy it.

The bar tender was very generous with my bourbon.  Keith said his Manhattan was excellent.  As much as I enjoy them, when they are made correctly, they have additional sugar than straight bourbon or scotch, my usual drinks.  I also get high faster on them and I don't need to do that.

I went out for a veggie burger at lunchtime. Last week when I was there my order, a take-out order, was incorrect and I didn't discover it until I got home. I mentioned it today and the manager gave me today's meal free. Like Jane's Beaches restaurant, this one makes few mistakes and is very good about it when they do. That's one of the reasons why I'm a regular.

Not really. But it didn't taste like cauliflower either. I had one with a four cheese topping and the other day I tried a slice with sausage and cheese. On both, the flavor worked in with everything else.

It was a very weird day. I went running around like crazy at work. Squeezed in an acupuncture treatment about my allergies. Ran back to work. Got in a handful of other frustrating meetings. Then I had my quarterly evaluation, which I was not looking forward to. Not because I had done nothing wrong, but rumors of the opposite. It turned out that, as I had been led to believe, all of my coworkers were so effulgent in their praise that my boss basically said their were worthless because no one offered any suggestion for growth or improvement. I don't take praise well and I study criticism, so I had to agree, even though their comments were awfully nice and I do appreciate their being nice.

I wasn't so nice in my reviews of my immediate coworkers, though I worked hard to phrase almost everything in a positive framework. there was one person who dropped out of sight too often and tried to get the contractors to do her work. That I was blunt about.

Back in the day, not only did I write a book, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, but my son, David, and I also wrote a song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R-YXBFLvjQ

That's pretty cool, Druxy.  I wonder why Quentin Tarantino didn't use it.

;)

I honestly have no idea if my book had anything to do with it, but a month or two ago, Tarantino's movie title was changed from ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD to ONCE UPON A TIME IN...HOLLYWOOD.

I hope you're not serious - do you think you made up your title out of whole cloth?  Or do you think you did exactly what Tarantino did - use Mr. Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America as inspiration.  Because Mr. Leone did that in 1969 and 1982.  Mr. Tarantino, of course, has never had an original idea ever - all his films are riffs on other people's films.

Where the HELL did the day and night go and where did I go?  I honestly have no idea.  I did eat at Marie Callender's - love their bacon cheeseburger plus a few fries and they give you a free piece of pie with that, so I had the lowest calorie one, the custard.  Hadn't been there in about nine months, I think.

I have only ordered from Safeway, so I can’t guarantee all the stores; but at Safeway when you finish ordering, they bring up a page showing all of your items, and after each item they ask you pick whether you want (a) the same brand but a different size, (b) the same size but a different brand, or (c) no substitutions.  I think there is another choice but I don’t remember what it is.

Mark had cancer and we all pretty much knew he wasn’t going to make it, but this was a total shock.  He died from a reaction to the chemo he was taking.  It is thought that it was probably his heart.

I'm so sorry, Tom.  My condolences to you and to his family.

I guess he was so intent on getting the notes posted in time that he forgot to close today.
