Title: THE EASY LISTENING EVENING
Post by: bk on October 13, 2019, 12:30:46 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were easy and listened, and now it is time for you to post until the easy cows come home.

And the word of the day is: TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA!

Smoke on your pipe and put that in.

First after BK.

(though I admit I haven't read the notes yet.  Time to do that.)

Bk wrote in the notes:  "makes the show look more successful than it probably is, but, for me, it’s specious."

I think I may have said this last night, or at least thought it - They know it's specious, but it sounds intentional because those long lines of people standing to buy tickets were gone due to phone sales and computer sales.    But they loved those, too, since they got the per-ticket service charge for Telecharge, and that wasn't subject to royalties (even though to the buyer, you can call it whatever you want, it's part of what we paid.).

And they now with no shame float the fiction that it was caused by the added security of 9-11-2001  but  the lines were there before that

Oy vey, just noticing that "The Full Monty" where I first saw those (pointless) lines was at a Jujamcyn Theater, the O'Neill.

But that trick sounds more like Rocco than Jack, just like that specious "theater restoration fee" which they also had tried to keep out of the artist royalty pool for quite a while, was a Jujamcyn invention.

I just laughed myself wide awake when Trump (on TV) said about Adam Schiff "you know, they call him Shifty Schiff" - but I;m pretty sure nobody has ever called him that except for Trump himself.

Of course!  He makes up ALL the nicknames that he says people are called. ::)

Just like when he said to a group of Native Americans getting a medal "we have a candidate, they call her Pocahantas" -  nobody but him ever called her that!

But yikes, on the Democrat side - how did I miss Joe Biden talking to Anderson Cooper about bathhouses and round-the-clock sex?

And double yikes. - did Kamala Harris actually say she used to smoke in school and listen to Tupac - and someone looked it up and Tupac didn't record for the first time until years after she was in school?

When did writers of musicals have to look like they sound more time at the gym than writing?  Adam Gwon ten years ago was a delightful charming regulaly nice  looking guy who could sell a funny quirky song.

But in this weekend's Times:  (it recalls how Marlboro Man great  John Weidman always looked in press when he was doing Pacific Overtures, as if audiences should care what the writer looks like when they buy seats)

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/08/theater/adam-gwon-scotland-pa.html

And then the article has the director and head of the Roundabout saying things that seem atrneg for a piece on the writer.

They seem to be selling his being accessible, rather than him being really good, which he's known for, isn't he?

I haven't said much about that Babes In Toyland edition I worked on with my colleagues between 2002 and 2007, but there's been inquiry on getting back to it in the past six weeks, so I need to start collecting from various external hard drives whatever I can find.  Unfortunately, there's been no talk about finances, and I don't know if this is one more phishing incident similar to those between 2013 and 2017 about it, but I need a job.

Title: Re: THE EASY LISTENING EVENING

It keeps occurring to me, even when I see candidates who don't look like anything to look at in their 50s, they almost all were really attractive when they were younger, if they caught in with then public  Like I didn't recall Tim Kaine when he ran as Hillary Clinton's potential VP from law school at the same time as me, though his wife was extremely familiar as someone I'd spoken to quite a lot by then studen mailboxes and such.   and a classmate said look in the yearbook from the 1980s -you'll remember him.  So I looked and yep, when he started in politics, he was, shall we say, extremely "charismatic."

It was a good run.

And the cast really didn’t want to break up. The closing night par-tay went on to all hours. As did I. And I paid for it dearly when I had to arise after about four hours sleep to drive to the Poughkeepsie area where I was substitute pianist for a church service.

From there, however, I was able to take the most beautiful country roads back to our playhouse for strike. I changed clothes, all the cast showed up, and we had another fine time getting our sh   stuff out of there. My car is still packed to the gills with two keyboards and associated equipment. Tomorrow I clean the Music Room and set everything back up.

And I’m afraid that’s all of my news.

Listening to music - it's interesting - when I go onto YouTube to see what else might be there for composers I discover and like, I always end up finding new composers I've never heard of so last night I found a Swiss composer who's terrific - Richard Flury.  I got all his major works off YouTube and into iTunes, which is good because CDs of his music go for quite a bit of the dough.

How was your day, Tom?

Most of the day was okay ( the Seahawks won), but this evening I have been suffering thru some serious stomach problems.

I'm so sorry!

I first went to Costco to get some pictures printed from a digital camera that my mom had.

She hadn't used the camera in several years.

The batteries had started to corrode, and she couldn't get the battery compartment door open!

When I was over there yesterday, I was eventually able to pry open the compartment door with a screwdriver.

I kind of cleaned up the inside of the battery compartment and my mom had some fresh batteries, so we put those in, and it still worked!

My doctor thinks that I may have some internal bleeding which would account for the anemia that I continue to have.

Fortunately, the printing of the pictures only cost 14¢ each, so it came out to $23.52+$2.19 tax for a total of $25.71.

They do!  You can even get the pictures put on a DVD!  AND they even refill some (quite a few, actually) printer cartridges for only $9.99!

Their selection notes were a little strange.  For “Seasons of Love” the sole credit was Anthony Rapp; for “Hello” from THE BOOK OF MORMON it was Andrew Rannells only; but for “I Dreamed A Dream” it was listed as The Original London Cast.

It's all done very quickly and with not much detail.  Of course, they're not going to take care with trivial things like the actual performers. :P

This is sad...Stephen Moore dead: Actor who played dad in Kevin and Perry dies aged 81 (https://www.msn.com/en-au/entertainment/celebrity/stephen-moore-dead-actor-who-played-dad-in-kevin-and-perry-dies-aged-81/ar-AAIIjRl?OCID=ansmsnnews11).  He also was the voice of Marvin the Paranoid android in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Quote
Stephen Moore first performed the role of the "manically depressed" robot with "a brain the size of a planet" in the second episode of the original radio series in 1978.

His character became one of the most popular in the series and he continued to voice the role across five radio series, a television adaptation, and in a recent stage show.

When he retired from acting the role of Marvin was taken over by Jim Broadbent in the sixth radio series last year.

Fourteen cents a print is cheaper than buying printer paper for printing them yourself.

That is true.  I do have some 8-1/2 x 11 inch photo paper, but it would've taken quite a long time to print out 168 pictures, even if I printed two pictures on each sheet.  It took less than a half hour at Costco.

My brother-in-law went to Costco the other day, and one thing on his list was for some Imodium, but he couldn’t find it on the shelf.  Finally, he asked about it, and was told that it was kept behind the counter in the pharmacy.  He asked the pharmacy for two bottles, but they would only sell him one bottle because it is a controlled substance.. WTF?
