Well, you've read the notes, the notes looked back, and now it is time for you to post until the looking back cows come home.

George was asking me last night if the Titanic book I am reading is new.  Actually no, but some how I missed knowing anything about it.

It is a really good book.  Naturally the centerpiece of the story is the Titanic, but it is really about two other ships and their captains.

That does sound like an interesting book.

The Carpathia is the ship that upon receiving the distress call, turned around in the middle of the ocean and raced (faster than the ship had ever traveled) 58 miles in an attempt to reach the ship in time to rescue the ship and the passengers and crew.

The ship’s skipper, Captain Rostron, is one of the true heroes of that shipwreck.  He did everything right, and yet they were not able to reach the site until after the Titanic was gone.  But the Carpathia rescued all 705 survivors from their life boats.

The other ship from that night was the Californian and her skipper, Captain Lord.  If you do not know the story of the Californian, you should really read this book.  Basically, the crew of that ship watched a “mystery ship” fire 8 distress rockets into the night sky, and basically never lifted a finger to find out what was happening.

I have physical therapy at 9:30.  After that, I will bus to Staples and photocopy a lot of blank score paper.  When I'm home, I'll seriously get to work on my job.  My goal is to get as far as possible so that I can begin mailing scores to Patrick on Jan. 2.

I am very happy about the impeachment, but I am very bothered by the GOP claims that this is simply Democrat revenge.  I don't know how these GOP morons like Gaetz, Jordan, and Collins cannot be outraged by separated families in concentration camps, children dying in cages, the ridiculous national debt, pardoning convicted war criminals, continually trivializing our national security, the destruction of ecology, natural resources, endangered animals, etc.  I would think everyone in politics would want to see this wannabe Hitler out of office and in prison where he belongs.

I spent a good deal of yesterday waiting to hear from David Packard, who emailed me yesterday morning about getting together after he went to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art).  It gave me a good excuse to watch the impeachment debate and do little work.  I was hoping to see him because we had had a brief but cordial visit at Carnegie Hall, and I was happy to renew a friendship.  I like David, and the frustrations of the Toyland project sadly soured things.  Around 5:00 I got a nice email apologizing for plans falling through.  He leaves for California this morning.

Stella nearly gave me a stroke when I left for therapy.  I was laden down with my bag, cane, the dirty litter for the garbage chute, and she made a run for it when I opened the door.  I had to put everything down in the hall and chase her down a flight of stairs.  I love her dearly, but she has no idea how close to death she comes when she pulls this.

I've been thinking about my highs and lows of 2019.  Mostly, because of my health issues, it's mostly been mediocre, pretty much the same all the time, but things I can remember . . .

Highs
March, recording "The New Yorkers"
May, adopting Stella
Thanksgiving, wonderful dinner with good friends
December, release of "The New Yorkers" CD

Lows
Moulin Rouge, probably the worst piece of garbage I've seen in a theatre since the original production of "Carrie."

Re the impeachment: I always say the same thing, because no one can really dispute it, no matter which side you're on: Can you imagine the same exact scenario playing out but with a Democrat president - can you even imagine what the reaction would be if the Republicans knew that a Democrat-controlled senate had already made up its mind?  If the Democrats were lying and screaming what do you think the reaction would be?  Well, we all know.

DR TCB I like that book you're reading.

I remember when I was in high school a book called - I think - The Titanic & The Californian.....some guy twisted all the facts around and drew charts and other stuff to try to convince everyone that there was ANOTHER ship between the Titanic & the Californian.

It was a horrible book and there are those who believed his drivel and kept trying to get Captain Lord's name "cleared."

Didn't work.....

Picked up some packages, but naturally one arrived after I'd left and I can see from the online form it was a screener.  Maybe I'll go back later and get it.  Then I had to put gas in the motor car.  The gas station is next to Popeye's - line out the door.  So, my intention was to just go to Gelson's and get the ingredients for faux chicken stroganoff.  No parking spaces at all.  Ended up at Taco Bell, which I didn't really want, but it was pretty good.

I am crushed.  The ACC euthanized a 17-month-old puppy today.  I fell in love with him from his photo and videos.  There was over $2,000 pledged to the rescuer who saved him as well as $1,000 for a trainer, and I do not know why in hell no one stepped up.

Wife: Look at that drunk guy.
Husband: Who is he?
Wife: 10 years back he proposed to me and I rejected him.
Husband: Oh my god. He's still celebrating.

Yes, I am excited about this baby.  It is difficult living so far away, not seeing the changes in the mother or the purchased items for the baby.  Now I am caught up.  Kate really feels great, is working out at the gym and staying in shape.  It makes me very happy to see how well she is doing.

It's essentially a sequel to Pride and Prejudice (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pride_and_Prejudice), but with Mary Bennet, the middle sister, as the protagonist.

It's a very well written script and according to the very short Wikipedia article (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Bennet:_Christmas_at_Pemberley), "It was one of the most produced plays in the United States in 2018 with 13 productions."

I knew four of the actors, including the lead Edith, who designed lights for Bunbury earlier this year.

Also, Edith's real sister Shannon plays one of Mary's sisters.

Shannon and Rodman (who plays Mary's possible love interest) played the leads in Bunbury, so it was a bit of a Bunbury reunion tonight!
