Well, you've read the notes, the notes visited on Christmas Day, and now it is time for you to post until the visiting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GAMINESQUE!
-
First post after BK.
-
Today, I go back to work. It's also the last day to pay any invoices for the year and to get the budget report to the finance office and to spend the budget down as close to zero as we can, but I don't think we have enough invoices to get down to zero, but my supervisor said that she's not worried about it. Okay...if she's not worried, I'm not worried. :)
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
One step forward, one step backward. Another poor night of sleep; I slept soundly until a little past midnight, then spent the next six hours alternating bouts of restlessness and pain with sleep and dreams I no longer remember.
-
I must get to the bank this morning, a walk I do not look forward to. Beyond that, I've got my second number to work on for Patrick. I hope it goes quickly because I still have two more waiting for me.
-
Last night we watched Patrick Stewart's version of A Christmas Carol. Stewart is a good Scrooge - I would have loved to see his one-person stage version - and the supporting cast is good, but I think I prefer the Clive Donner-George C. Scott production. I've got the Scrooge of Alastair Sim and Michael Hordern waiting for me. I'll watch one of those tonight, if Annabelle will let me.
-
Good morning.
-
Happy Boxing Day
-
I must to work today

Vixdad is still sick

T.O.D.
The Orpheum Theater in Seattle.
It no longer exists, but it holds many happy memories.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Back to the show tonight!
Three more, and we're done.
-
Oh a bar stool with a back.....I was afraid MR BK was going to turn into a hunchback using his computer unsupported.....
-
Nice new photo DR LAURA and it sounds like everyone had a good time.
-
TOD:
I would love to visit the house in the country that we lived in from 1960-1962.
It doesn't exist anymore - although the barn that was on the property is still there. Someone tore down the house and built a new one.....
We drove by it when we attended the celebration of life for our cousin's late husband early this month..... A lot of the house on the road are gone - but many are just the same.
-
We just got a good review from Rob Lester on Talkin Broadway:
https://www.talkinbroadway.com/page/sound/index.html
-
My own drives around the places of my former lives are very precious to me, as disappointing as many of those areas may actually be now. And because I TOTALLY get it, it's fascinating to hear about other people's places and memories.
I was familiar with BK's Roscoe & Sepulveda area -- though to be more accurate, the Roscoe & Woodley and Balboa and other areas surrounding Van Nuys Airport -- when I was involved with my flying lessons and activities. This was during 1977-1978 and it continued off and on till 1983-1985 when I was living in Redondo Beach and flew out of Torrance Airport for a while.
I couldn't even begin to respond to this TOD without breaking it down into very small chunks, concentrating on one period of time in one particular location. Even then, I think I'd be writing a book.
-
As DR Jrand69 said, there's no question I'd want to revisit every house and apartment I lived in.
The two most critical houses would be our house in Bexley (Columbus, Ohio) on Cassingham Rd just south of Mound St., and our house in Fort Lauderdale on SW 15th Terrace. Both houses are still there, and both have been expanded from the structures we knew, so there would be much change to deal with. But I'd do it.
-
Congratulations on the review, DR Elmore.
-
BK's Do food always sounds good, and I could use some right about now.
I'll have to see what kind of leftovers we have here. Because that's exactly what I want. Leftovers. I have no desire to prepare anything new.
-
Anyway, I'm off to my day. Vibes for all, including the ailing Vixdad!
-
Good morning, all. Happy Boxing Day!
-
Vixdad is still sick
I hope he is home resting.

-
Tom I am glad you enjoyed Christmas with your family.

Page 2 Dance!
-
I've been to the bank, and now I will settle in and work.
-
Thursday morning greetings! Our Christmas Day was pretty low key. Rob and Mary Linda arrived about 1pm and we opened presents until the turkey was almost done. We were putting the finishing touches on dinner when our sister-in-law Jayne arrived and we ate dinner about 4:30 - turkey, stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, cranberry sauce, rolls. The kids stayed until it was time for Rob's pre-work nap (he went in at 11) and Jayne left about 7. I crashed in my recliner, watched Call the Midwife, and went to bed.

Here's what I need/want to do today: nothing.

Just indulging for a moment my memories of the Van Nuys Airport area: my greatest feeling of loss is for Skytrails, the restaurant and bar at Sherman Way and Hayvenhurst. A classic hangout if ever there was one. I couldn’t estimate the number of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners enjoyed there, both alone and in the company of good friends. It was the kind of place that, once gone, is irreplaceable.
I don’t know when it was razed for development, but I’m glad I wasn’t around then. My fellow fliers and I also enjoyed some meetings and meals at Lulu’s, on Roscoe, which to my amazement is still there. I recall that as a typical So. Cal. coffee shop type of jernt. For fast food, Tommy’s on Roscoe or Beeps at Sherman Way and Woodley. Oddly, I don’t literally remember eating at the latter, but I know I did. Also enjoyed a few meals at the 94th Aero Squadron bordering the airport. These three also survive, to my amazement, though the Tommy’s is apparently no longer just the “stand” I recall. I also liked the Denny’s on the south side of Ventura, just east of the 405, an occasional stop on my drive over the hill. Long gone.
In the realm of bookstores lost, there were a few dedicated to aviation. One was Pan American Aviation, somewhere around Saticoy on the west side of the airport. I still have books and material from there that might show the address.
For pure landmark value — from the air as well as the ground — the Van Nuys Drive-In, with a great marquee and screen decor (Roscoe, east of Sepulveda) and the Busch Gardens and brewery that were a checkpoint on final approach to runway 16L.
-
Well, that cleared the room.
Probably because I neglected to mention the newsstand on Van Nuys. :)
-
Here's what I need/want to do today: nothing.
Except maybe a short walk ;)
-
We’re getting videoed (is that a word yet?)* tomorrow night. I don’t know who’s doing it, so the quality will be somewhere between decent and execrable. Nor do I know if I’ll get a physical copy of it. If I do, I might be able to post a tiny snippet.
*What DO people call it nowadays? I think many still say “taping” and a smaller few say “filming”...
-
Well, that cleared the room.
In other news, I just ate some Sloppy Joe leftovers. We don’t do a formal dinner on Christmas Day, just hot snacks and such. This was one of them. And so delicious.
-
I see we’re sold out on Saturday. And there are only seven remaining for Friday, so that’ll be a sellout, too. There are forty (out of 112) remaining for tonight, which is already good for a Thursday and the day after Christmas. That will no doubt improve, too, perhaps even greatly improve. So we done well.
-
And that’s about enough out of me. I yield the floor.
-
I had no idea Chas was a pilot. I am impressed!

That second one is a good friend who went along on a couple of pleasure flights. Fortunately, he's not flying the plane there.
Not sure who the weird guy is in the first photo.
Now aren't you sorry you said that, DR vixmom?
-
Thus endeth the Van Nuys reminiscences for today.
Time for me to tend to some cat duty -- notably, shoveling some sh , as General Patton might have said.
-
DR Chas last month when we briefly popped into L.A. for a 70th birthday party we were at the 94th Aero Squadron. It is still very nice.
-

They were very enjoyable, especially the photos.

Thatch has been Daddy's helper today. He's less rowdy than Annabelle or Stella on my work table, but he likes to play with my pens and paper clips, nap on my score paper, and chase the pencil or ruler sliding over the paper.
-
DR ChasSmith, how old are you in that photo?
-
DR Elmore, I think that was a day in 1980, or close. So ... 30?
And what in the HELL is that stuff on my head?
-

I’m glad to hear that. The one at Miami International is also still there. Don’t know how many there were, altogether. Unfortunately, the one at Torrance Airport looks to have been swallowed up by development.

I didn't realize there were more than just the 1. This was only the 2nd time we have eaten there. We were there with the friend who had the party & his wife years ago for our anniversary.

It looks like there are four now - the two above, one in San Diego, and one in Columbus. I had no idea they’re still a thing, but I’m glad to hear it.
I’m also told there used to be one at Fort Lauderdale. So, four operating and two gone, to my knowledge. Interesting how most have been in places central to me.

Good morning, all. Happy Boxing Day!
Boxing Day is such a major day in Canada. You would not believe how many people go Boxing Day shopping. It's crazy.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a little over eight hours of sleep - was up for an hour around five.
-
I got 66 measures written this afternoon. After they had their dinner, all three cats decided to come and help Daddy orchestrate. I was so happy that Annabelle has snapped out of that cold that I welcomed them. Annabelle did little more than roll around, try to pick up pencils and pens in her paws and try to eat them.
-
Joshie called me from his parents home in Vermont and we compared our Christmases. He's coming back to Manhattan tomorrow, and we talked about hte work facing us on Mack and Mabel.
-
Nice review DR ELMORE.
-
I enjoyed reading the posts of DR CHAS SMITH.....
There is another home where we lived from 1962-1964 that has also been demolished. The property is now a town park....
I am sad that we did NOT take any photos of those houses....a few photos of the yards, but not of the actual homes....
-
Greetings from the theater.
-
DR Jrand69, I am sick at the pictures we never took in a couple of our houses. Even the ones in which we snapped a few, it’s a pittance. Missed opportunities, man. We did take pictures, but not with any methodology or intent. We had no idea what a simple picture of a house could mean.

Boxing Day is such a major day in Canada. You would not believe how many people go Boxing Day shopping. It's crazy.
When we lived in Pennsylvania my friend introduced me to Boxing Day by shopping at one store in town that we loved. We put the kids in the long line while we picked up Christmas items at great prices for the following year.
-
I can't recall shopping on Boxing Day at any other store.
-
I don't even remembering knowing that it was called Boxing Day.
-
The house next door to my childhood home has been demolished & a larger house built. I fear my home will be next. Our driveways were side by side. A number of years ago I was shocked to find a wall was put up dividing them. Growing up we had great fun playing on the double driveways.
-
We went to Little Women today. Sold-out showing. Highly enjoyable, solid three-star work. Not great. Won’t make you forget previous versions, but better than not.

Vixdad is still sick

I say video recording...that way, the physical or electronic format doesn't matter. ;)
-
I also tend to be literal, which is why I don't say Saran wrap for any kind of plastic wrap, or tin foil for aluminum foil.

We used to live in Colorado, and when my dad retired from the army, we moved here to Washington state. We had a camera that used actual film ( it was the 1970s, you know) with which we took a picture of our Colorado house. Then when we got here to Washington, we took a picture or two of our (then) new Washington home. But somehow the film didn't advance and we have one picture that has multiple images from both the Colorado and Washington houses! I don't know where the actual picture is now, but I'm sure I scanned it at some point. I wonder if I still have it on my computer at home. If I can remember, I'll try to look for it sometime. :)

Apparently we are reading two people at six. I JUST found this out. So, must get ready quickly.

Good news on the review, Elmore.

I could see BK’s objections. But I also found, at this time, some of the family moments to be quite moving.
-
I don’t know if we’ll see anything else at the theater here. No interest in Uncut Gems, Jujmanji or Star Wars. Too many kids movies.
-
I’ve been watching TV, but that has been boring, except for It’s a Wonderful Life.
-

No, just sorry I didn’t meet you 40 years earlier!

Finished Know My Name. Brutal memoir of sexual abuse. Chanel Miller is an excellent writer. Her tale is hard to process. I hope her honesty brings about some changes.
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Keith is popping corn & we are going to watch Call the Midwife.
-
Well, the invoicing and reports are all done for the year! Whew! :D
-
The balance is down to about $9,300, but with a budget of $3,500,000, that's not too bad. Now, I just need to do the fiscal year roll-over tomorrow with my supervisor so that she can see how it happens, then it's on to the (fiscal) new year!
-
And now, I'm outta here!
Be back later.

Watching the Great American Baking whatever. They’re making macaron towers.
-
What are your favorite macaron flavors?
-
I like pistachio, yuzu and Earl Grey.
-
Back from reading two actors, one of whom I cast, so it's just one more role to cast. Then we did the put-in and that was fun and fine, now the cast is doing a speed through of the show and I am home. I've been around so many sick people this week, so I'm trying really hard to stay well and am taking all my preventatives.
-
Good night, all.

Hi, Tom.

I don’t like macarons. Come to think of it, I don’t like macaroons, either

Hello, George.

I'll take yours! I like them both!

I don't have a favorite flavor of macaron.

I've liked all the kinds I've had...so far.

DR TCB did you bake the pumkin pie or purchase it? Do you do something else to it besides flipping it upside down?
Jane, I make the dessert, but it isn’t quite a pumpkin pie, upside down or not. You make the recipe on the back of the large]/i] can of Libby’s Pure Pumpkin. You pour it into a 9X13 pan. Then you sprinkle a box of yellow cake mix over the top. Then thinly slice, 1 1/2 cubes of butter so that they cover the cake mix. Bake for 60 or 70 minutes until all your dirty knives come out clean. Top with whipped cream.

We have gotten a long way.

Notes are posted.

Posted are notes.

I suppose I can change the topic but wouldn't it be nice to have a few more posts whilst I am doing so?

What all do you put into your tuna pasta salad?
-
It would. Make it so.
-
Gratuitous Post #139!
-
It's a post. ;)
-
The tuna pasta salad is simplicity itself: tuna (Bumble Bee Gold in water), red onions finely chopped, mayonnaise (Best Foods), salt and pepper - that's it. It's perfection.
-
"Perfection"...unless one doesn't care for tuna. ::)
