Well, you've read the notes, the notes counted down, and now it is time for you to post until the counting down cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GAWSY!
-
First post after BK.
-
Hi, jan!
-
How're things down your way?
-
COLD! at least for me. you guys would probably call it beach weather.
-
what's new in washington.
-
Today, I might go see Star Wars with my friend Margo. Or, we might actually see Cats. We'll decide sometime beford we go. :)
-
what's new in washington.
It's starting to get a little colder in the evenings, but not cold enough to worry about anything.
-
i'm glad you'll decide before you go to the movie instead of after.
-
and now, bonne nuit, cher ami.
-
Good night, jan.
-
Well, I need to get some sleep, now.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Last night was hell. As soon as I lay down, my left leg began to throb very badly and continued to do so all the rest of the night. I did doze, and I actually had a few dreams. In one Gurjeet was telling me "you only have one session approved." In another, I was working on a production of Candide. In another, I was in Oxford, Ohio, with a Miami University production of My Fair Lady, and I was in a market trying to purtchase a bottle of cranberry juice and a copy of the old New York Native newspaper.
-
Now that I'm up and dressed, I feel okay. I'm quite awake at the moment, so I'm not going back to bed.
-
Nice visit yesterday with my step-son, who is in Austin for 2-3 days.
I haven't seen him for over 10 years.
He lives in Seattle.
-
Kitty cleanup went well. I'm moving very cautiously today and taking extra care not to upset any part of my body.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The other night we watched the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol, which is quite wonderful. I thought the young lady playing Fred's wife was very phony in a "grande dame of the theatre" mode, but Alastair Sim remains the best Scrooge ever. Much as I liked George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart in the role, Sim seems the Scrooge to transition from nasty miser to happy philanthropist.
Tonight we'll watch the 1975 BBC version with Michael Hordern, an actor I've loved since he played Elizabeth Taylor's befuddled father in Zeffirelli's The Taming of the Shrew, as Scrooge.
-
And the word of the day is: GAWSY!
Wasn't that the type of lens Lucy was filmed through in "Mame?"
-
In Jerry Herman stories, they're linking some of the numbers from the "Mame" movie among other clips. Taken one at a time, songs that seemed bizarre watching the movie seem pretty entertaining.
-
I guess they're more 30-seconds-or-less segments of the songs, but the question is still: Would we have been better off with no MAME movie at all?
-
In its day, IIRC, "we" seemed to think that if the Lucy film had not been made, someone else would have played it in a movie. Looking back, maybe if it hadn't been Lucy's passion, most likely not.
-
If no one else has a topic, maybe that can be a question with so few Jerry Herman shows filmed:
Would the legacy of that show's score have been better off with no MAME movie at all?
-

I think so. Except for Robert Preston, nothing on the soundtrack sounds lifelike.

Good morning!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Four hours sleep.
Count ‘em. Four.
-
One word: Cats.
-
But I’m up and awake, so that will be that.
Today i’m attending my first ever British “Panto”, out of curiosity and because I know people in it. I shall also relish being an audience member for the first time in too long a while.
That’s a matinee, and their closing show, so I’ll stick around and socialize for a bit. Then off I go to another theater for a production meeting. And tomorrow evening I’m back at — what else? — why, rehearsal, of course.
-
A couple of friends and I need to get tickets for Mack & Mabel which we just realized is in February. I don’t know why I thought that one was later. And because of our own February show, we can only see either the Wednesday or Thursday performance. I look forward to getting into that score.
-
So the Panto is directed by a delightful Brit local who was steeped in the tradition, and though doing one wouldn’t be my own cup of tea, I’m looking forward to it. Its venue even has a touch of British music hall ambiance. It’s also where we did Cabaret. Nice intimate 120-seater.
-
Good morning.
-
I think GAWSY was one of the Little Rascals.
-
Continued vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Hmm, did I know about this? A 1998 revival of Mack & Mabel?
-
Damn it to HELL, I just sneezed. Three times.
It's not a cold. Just allergy sneezing, which has oddly persisted through the first part of winter. Every couple of days I enjoy a couple of good sneezing fits. And it's getting old. But the woman who gave me my flu shot said many people around here are experiencing that this year.

Where?
-
Or is it London 1995?
Amazon, CDs.

Oh wow I wish I knew about this. I went to my one and only Christmas panto in Coventry at the Belgrade theatre back in 199o. Vixdad and I were visiting his parents before they emigrated to Canada. It was so much fun. I wonder if they will be able to engender the necessary audience participation.
-
Anyhoo, I ordered the original cast CD.
I used to have it on vinyl, but didn't find it on my shelf. I must have deemed it a copy not worth keeping in one of my purges.

I'm hearing that they've done very well with that. I'm not an audience participation kind of guy, myself, but I'll bury myself in the audience and enjoy the experience.
This theater group has done these in the past, and always in the hands of a good Brit. But not in the last few years. I was asked to play or MD one several years back, but I knew it wasn't my thing. I'm sorry, however, that I didn't get to any before this.

Well Vix Dad is still sick anyway.... if they are going to do one next year would you please let me know? It would be fun thing to go to with Vixdad

I don't think they're planning one for next year, but I'll find out for sure today. I'll tell the producer and director you said that, and that there's an audience for these from outside the immediate area. I mean, they might know where SOME of their audience comes from, but they don't know about the VIXES. :)

I watched JUDY yesterday and liked it - interesting to watch, but a very sad time in her life....
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Probably six hours of sleep.
-
We’re going to see Harriet in an hour. They didn’t even have it on the marquee, but they sold us tickets anyway. Maybe it’s in one of those Harry Potter halfway theaters.

:( Now I am prepared for sad.

Strange & interesting.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to the theater for what is turning out to be a ten-hour day there.
-
Or is it London 1995?
Amazon, CDs.
It's probably London, with Howard McGillin and Caroline O'Connor. It matches the current rental score.
-
I just finished my second score and the third number to do arrived via email. Perfect timing.

I just took an unexpected nap
-
My 2nd case for my new tablet arrived. While not as pretty is is nice and a better fit for me.
-
Alas, it still isn't as comfortable as my old case on my old tablet, and it weighs more. Weight is a big deal for me because of my shoulder.
-
I just added auto spell & auto capitalization. It seems to be working.
-
Just got word that Dad died this afternoon.

Just got word that Dad died this afternoon.
DR JohnG, I send my condolences. It seems to me he went rather quickly and that's all for the best. Are you heading to Kentucky from Florida?
-
Just got word that Dad died this afternoon.
Oh John, I am so very sorry. I hope his passing was peaceful. Sending you a BIG HUG :(

Oh John I am so sorry

Now that I have finished all of my holiday chocolate I know without a doubt, unless I go back on the medication I spent the last year getting off of I cannot eat chocolate anymore :(
-
I will be headed to Louisville tomorrow. Booked a flight out of Melbourne.
-
Got rental car for the week.
-
A storm is headed Louisville way. I’m thinking it might be between my mom and my sister.

I go through Atlanta.

Guess Dad went about the time Harriet was singing Let my people go.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
So sorry to hear about your dad, John G.
Coping vibes to you and your family.
-
Healing vibes to Vixdad.

Jane, I've taken myself off chocolate a couple times. I look for fruit-flavored treats and even some non-sweets that just have a flavor I like. I'm not saying it's easy, but if you're resourceful it's not too bad.
-
Today just flew. I swear I don't know where the day went.
-
I stopped at a little Indian restaurant that replaced the little Indian restaurant that I used to love and frequent. I never felt the newer one was as good. Even when I ask for a dish to be mild, it ends up hotter than I prefer. I hadn't been there in quite a while. They've remodeled the interior and it's awful. Spruced down instead of spruced up. I gave them another try. Same problem. I don't expect to return. Too bad, because otherwise the food is pretty good. I miss the original restaurant!

TTFN.

Wishing you an easy layover. This trip will be hard.

I kind of like that.

Thanks for the encouragement.
I was doing so well before the holidays. I was in a lot of pain last night & hurt again tonight. I hope my brain remembers that. Pain is what helped me to give up my addition to Pepsi & then stop drinking other soda.
It sure was fun eating the chocolate :)

That is disappointing.
-
Our favorite Indian restaurant in Portland closed before we moved up here. Aside from that restaurant Keith isn't interested in Indian food as it is usually served too hot.
-
My new tablet it ready for me to use tonight. I will try using the blue light filter while reading and hopefully it will work. I still do not like looking at it.
Jeanne have you gotten use to your glasses yet?
-
John, condolences and warm hugs to you at this tough time.
-
Quiet night.
-
I hope John is able to sleep.
-
I kept napping on and off all day ...this past week without enough sleep really caught up with me
-
Sometimes around 3 am Caligula’s cure for coughing seemed reasonable
-
Page three? REALLY?
-
Condolences to our own JohnG.
-
Page four? REALLY?
-
But I am feeling much more sympathetic today
-
Back from this ten-hour day. We auditioned one person at noon (the other was a no-show) - I liked him and so did Doug.
-
I tried to but a ticket to the Saturday matinee to Mack and mable today
-
I thought I snagged a front tow balcony seat but then the stupid website froze
-
I tried again and it froze again
-
At that point I just lost patience and gave up
-
We had a completely sold out house and boy were they great and boy did the cast deliver a great show. The laughs were huge and Barry's final Banjo (although there's a slight chance he'll do the final week) was hilarious. Many interesting folks in attendance, so that was fun. The talkback was also fun and it was surprising how many folks stayed for it.
-
Ian also getting tired of all these damn fees. Facility fee, transaction fee, ridiculous postage fees.
-
Then it was time for food - Adryan Russ and her hubby, who were seeing the show for the second time, tagged along, as did Doug. I mostly had the excellent War Wonton soup, a bit of chicken fried rice and a bit of sweet and sour chicken.
-
Do they want us to go to these shows or don’t they?
-
Then we went back to the theater and saw the upstairs show - not really my cuppa and, in fact, I just closed my eyes for most of act one and half-dozed off.
-
Well I have work tomorrow
-
Goodnight
-
After that, we auditioned two more people. I'm thinking we're going to go with the noon guy. The only other candidate is in The Man Who Came to Dinner and I feel he's just a bit too old to play opposite the very young-looking gal we're casting.
-
Prayers for John and family
-
Then I came right home, put on some music, and now I'm just trying to relax.
-
Today, I might go see Star Wars with my friend Margo. Or, we might actually see Cats. We'll decide sometime before we go. :)
Well, Margo and I saw Cats. ::)
-
We didn't hate it.
-
But I'll never need to see it again.
-
I will probably get the soundtrack, but I think I'll until a more complete recording...assuming one will be released.
-
Completist that I am. ;)
-
Right now, what's available is billed as "highlights."
-
What's the point of that??
-
Anyway, after the movie, we went to Red Robin.
-
It turns out that I have several gift cards for Red Robin, so I didn't have to pay!
-
I (as usual) ate too much. ::)
-
Good evening.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Just got word that Dad died this afternoon.
Oh, no. John, my condolences to you and your entire family. You are in my prayers.
-
George, did you actually pay hard-earned money to see that........ whatever?
-
What is Harriet that John went to see?
-
The Seattle Seahawks lost the division title today on the final play of the game by about six inches.
-
George, did you actually pay hard-earned money to see that........ whatever?
Actually, my sister gave me some money when I helped her move some bales of hay to put in the big shed for the chickens, so no.
-
They are still in the playoffs, starting next Sunday, but they now have a tougher row to hoe in order to get to the Super Bowl.
-
In fact, very doubtful that they will advance in the playoffs.
-

The game was playing on several of the TVs at Red Robin. I wasn't paying attention, but congrats on them still being in the playoffs.

Yes, I did. And so did quite a few other people. We weren't the only ones in the theater.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Now that I have finished all of my holiday chocolate I know without a doubt, unless I go back on the medication I spent the last year getting off of I cannot eat chocolate anymore :(
EVER?? :o That's terrible!
-
Did George finish watching The Creature Wasn't Nice, yes or no?
-
But if not eating chocolate keeps you from needing medication, then you have to do what you have to do.
-
Did George finish watching The Creature Wasn't Nice, yes or no?
I'm about 3/4ths of the way through. ::) I PROMISE that I'll finish it tomorrow night. I definitely want to finish it!

Composer discovery of the week - Mieczyslaw Karlowicz - gorgeous stuff. He died in an avalanche at thirty-two years of age. So many wonderful composers died young like that. But what he left behind is simply beautiful music. Check him out on the Tube of You.

New notes are up and I'll change the topic now.
