Well, you've read the notes, the notes ruminated, and now it is time for you to post until the ruminating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HIBERNACULUM!
-
First post after BK.
-
Yesterday, Jane asked me about closing the bedroom door at night.
I have thought about closing the bedroom door, but it would mean moving his water and possibly his food dish in there, as well. With Nick’s decreased eye sight I worry that he wouldn’t be able to find it in the dark and with my “klutz problems” I am afraid that I would find it.
-
Good night.
-
Good night, Tom and BK.
-
Well, I'm off. Nothing special is happening at work today...it'll just be a normal work day.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It feels like a Tuesday to me, too, BK.
-
A bad night of sleep. I'm sure my restlessness irritates the cats. I could sure use what Clement C. Moore called "a long winter's nap."
-
Yesterday at City Center I proofread "When Mable Comes In the Room." It's a long number, but the longest thing in the score, I think, is "Hit 'em on the head," which replaced the number I prefer, "My Heart Leaps Up." I guess I'll be getting that today.
-
Joshie gave me the most wonderful gift, the new orchestra score for The Wizard of Oz. I didn't know it had been published, so that was a delightful surprise. The editors give Herbert Stothart much credit for the score, but Andre Previn's book No Minor Chords makes Stothart look quite the fool.
-
This is another City Center day with some side trips, first the UPS store on 86th Street and Columbus Avenue, then the post office at 68th and Columbus, before I head down to City Center.
-
My horoscope predicts a windfall today. I hope it's that damned property selling!
-
Last night, we watched KING OF THE ROARING TWENTIES w/ David Janssen.
It was about gambler Arnold Rothstein.
It was okay; not great.
The main reason I watched it was because my late friend and publicity client, Dan O'Herlihy, had a major role.
Also, Mickey Rooney.
I did his Oscar campaign for THE BLACK STALLION. We got the nomination, but Melvyn Douglas won the award.
Interesting scene for me was the one where O'Herlihy, playing a crooked cop, beats the crap out of Rooney.
-
Kitty cleanup was a mess this morning. I was thinking about too many other things, and it all went to hell.
-
I must prepare to leave.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Beautiful gift, Elmore.
-
My horoscope predicts a windfall today. I hope it's that damned property selling!
Vibes for a sale.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Every day this pst week or more has felt like a different day.
-
When I remodel I am going to add an Hibernaculum to the back of the house.
-
Friday.....a short visit to the store since a bit of snow is predicted.
-
Continued sell the property vibes for DR ELMORE.....nice gift you got there!

I hope it's Ok with Bk to just completely quote Isaac Hurwitz's open thoughts win the end of NYMF here. I find it fascinating that he seemed to suggest NYMF when it had worked was about the people, because it then seems logical then when those people who'd drove NYMF so successfully gave way to other people, it naturally changed.
From Isaac Robert Hurwitz
"I’m up late tonight, still processing the news of NYMF’s closure. NYMF utterly consumed my life for for most of a decade, and it’s where I met so many folks I care about to this day. So I’m filled with all sorts of emotions.
When Kris Stewart convinced me to help start the festival, I could never have imagined I’d spend a decade of my life in the trenches. I just knew he had an inspiring idea and a passionate group of folks ready to tilt at windmills in pursuit of what everyone else said was an impossible dream. And at 24, I was happy to find a home in that passionate, ambitious, artistic community.
For me, what made NYMF a dream worth fighting for over the next ten years was not the shows — though I still cherish so many of the shows! — but the people. What a community: from that first group of founding producers; to the industry folks who lent their support; to the hundreds of authors, directors, actors, designers, producers, interns, and other young theater professionals who in the following years cut their teeth, started collaborations, and worked their asses off together; to the thousands of die-hard fans who came from across town or around the world to soak in the festival and chat with fellow musical-lovers.
I know all too well how hard it is to keep a festival spinning forward, how much NYC and the theater industry have both changed in the last 16 years, and how many other festivals have faded away at least partly as a result. That doesn’t make the moment any less sad. But while the curtain may have come down on the festival itself, I am heartened by the knowledge that a massive cohort of theater-makers who shared the NYMF experience is just coming into its own now. I see you everywhere. I am delighted when prefect strangers who saw me give many curtain speeches over the years STILL come up to me at the gym or at jury duty to tell me what their favorite NYMF show was.
And above all, I am profoundly grateful for the community of believers — both the industry leaders who provided mentorship and support, and the starry-eyed newcomers who provided passion and (oh so much) labor — who kept the festival alive so long.
Thinking of you all with love and affection."
-
Interestingly, BK, I think your show was a real success story - in large part you got a real great notice in The NY Times, well-deserved.
(continued to spread this over more posts...)
-
But I suspect that a show that season (Roller Derby) which had relatively unlimited (on that scale) money and that was allowed to be in NYMF with an unlimited budget signaled where NYMF actually did go. And that changed what NYMF was.
-
I saw The Ray Milland Show a couple of times....I think he was a college professor or something....it was right down there with Mr. Adams & Eve with Ida and Howard.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujSo7e_up7E&t=476s
-
On the plus side for writers, NYMF also for valid reasons became a place where a writer having a production there allowed writers to become full members of the Dramatists Guild because the Guild wanted writers there to be protected by their rules.
-
Local 802 was also logically playing attention to the number of musicians as the shift was happening. That was already happening in 2007, when both BK's show and our show were at NYMF.

I was surprised, at first, to hear there ever was such a thing as The Ray Milland Show. And then I began to think I might have seen it at some point as a kid. But one look at that YouTube selection tells me that I never saw it.
My introduction to Ray Milland was the Corman/Poe film PREMATURE BURIAL, soon followed by PANIC IN YEAR ZERO and then X: THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES. I loved Milland and the special air he brought to these kinds of proceeding, as a nice contrast to Vincent Price and the others. It was later that I began seeking out his earlier films. His presence in just about anything is still special to me.

I was hoping the obstacles wouldn't be too great :(

Hilarious West Side Story story in the New York Times:
Among the more tantalizing (and possibly apocryphal) threads of ?West Side Story? lore popped up not in The Times, but in an interview <https://www.courant.com/ctnow/arts-theater/hc-west-side-story-laurents-0522-20110522-story.html> Laurents gave to The Hartford Courant shortly before his death in 2011, in which he addressed rumors that Disney had once proposed an animated version of ?West Side Story? with ? cats?
?Someplace I have a seven-minute reel that they made with white cats and black cats,? he said. ?I remember the Maria cat came down the rope of a steamer illegally into the country. In the end I remember the Tony cat got run over. You can?t believe how terrible it was.?

Friday morning greetings! I'm getting a little stir-crazy, but my ankle has calmed down quite a bit.

I did, too. The Black Stallion is a great movie. So is Being There, and Douglas was also worthy.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe seven hours of sleep. Must futz and finesse when I'm coherent.

Writer Tom Sawyer (MURDER, SHE WROTE) tried to post the following comments about JASON ROBARDS At The Old Place on Amazon, but since Amazon has now changed the rules as to WHO can post reviews (i.e. You have to spend $50+ on Amazon during the past six months to qualify), it was rejected. >:(
"AN AMAZING PLAY
"Entertaining and remarkably touching. Michael Druxman’s play makes memorable actor, Jason Robards, come alive as a multi-dimensional person, one whose humanness reaches out to us."
Thank you, Tom, for your comments and for trying.

Good afternoon!

I am home from City Center. I took Tizanidine and Tramadol around 1:00, so by the time I left, I was feeling sleepy but walking wasn't the ordeal it can be.
-
I orchestrated four NYMF shows, and saw several others. I am sorry that it's closing down,

I am very pleased. Good vibes they help.

That is a very nice review. I understood when Amazon made the rule you had to purchase the item to review it. This I do not understand.

The case from September?
-
For the medical professionals here at HHW.
My nephew John who is 33 years old - was discovered on Wednesday evening by his wife when she got home from work....she thought he had a stroke and rushed him to the hospital...
My brother and his wife went as well.
Doctors said yesterday that they thought his artery flaked and a particle went to his brain.
He had no paralysis and could talk and walk.....
Today they did a cath and dye and the doctor found that blood to the left side of his brain was completely blocked, but that he has a conduit from the right side of his brain to the left side that was taking blood to the left side.
The doctor said he had never seen anything like that before that the blood supply lines are completely separate....but it is something he must have been born with.
They are not going to do surgery and expect him to recover, but everyone has questions.
I will get more information I am sure as the days go by. He is moving slow - but none of the usual stroke symptoms.
-
It was the case of the cheerleader who had buried her stillborn baby DR JANE.....not guilty on all counts except abuse of a corpse.
-
And that is what I've been doing.....

It's a terrible number and the dance music is nothing but chromatic Mickey Mousing. I might like it more if it had a good dance arrangement. Peter Howard, John Morris, John Berkman, Trude Rittman, Genevieve Pitot, we will never see your like again.

Got a Subway Club for lunch, picked up one package and a bunch of SAG screeners, all of which I had from the DGA, and now I'm back here working away.

Done about twenty-one pages so far - taking a break. I'm constantly futzing with the style for clarity purposes, but I think I pretty much have it down.

Thanks DR GEORGE. I am reporting on just a quick phone call from my brother so I am sure more details will be explained.

I must have seen the Ray Milland Show when I was a child because I knew his name prior to seeing any of his movies. When I did see one of his films I was surprised because I hadn't known about his film work. I do enjoy his work, a fine actor.

I went to Richard, my hairdresser, today. He sold his salon last month--the lease was up and the rent increased by 20%! A group of young hairdressers bought it and plan to play rap music, among other things. Richard decided to bow out and is now working at a salon in Marina del Rey.
I prefer small salons, where I get more personal attention. The new salon is mid-sized and very noisy. Everyone was very friendly, though.

funnily, no. You may know the shopping center, between Glencoe and Lincoln, just south of the movie theatres on Maxella. I hadn't been there in several years. There's both a Pavilion's and a Von's, so even though the parking lot is huge, I had to really hunt for an empty space. Just then I spotted a Tesla leaving.

Not sure whether we'll continue beyond the first free month, but we'll see.

Evening everyone (or early morning).
Tonight was cool in that my neighbors Ron and Marsha Kuhlman came to Man/Dinner. I've known them 20 years, ever since I moved into our little Sherman Oaks neighborhood. When I first met them, I learned that Ron had been in the original Broadway production of A CHORUS LINE. And I had seen him perform in that production decades before meeting him, when show toured to San Francisco.
So tonight Ron got to see his former castmate Kay Cole as Miss Preen, and I took a photo of them together.
I'll upload it and post it in a bit. Ron and his wife really enjoyed the show.

Hi, Leslie.

That's really cool!

Oh my gosh! Safeway sells their own brand of Peppermint Bark. It is fantastic!
Ooo...I'll have to try that.
But it was marked down because it is a seasonal item. I don’t think you can buy it except at Christmas..

Kay is playing Miss Preen. I thought she would be the actress.
