Title: TUMMY TROUBLE
Post by: bk on January 31, 2020, 12:34:45 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had tummy trouble, and now it is time to post until the tummy troubled cows come home.

Forgive my absence last evening, but I had company over.

My friend, Tracy, who is also going to callbacks next Saturday came over to watch DEATH ON THE NILE; which is, of course, the film version of the play MURDER ON THE NILE.
Title: Re: TUMMY TROUBLE
Post by: TCB on January 31, 2020, 01:18:54 AM
Tracy had never seen it, and she has been finding the play rather dull.
Title: Re: TUMMY TROUBLE
Post by: TCB on January 31, 2020, 01:20:07 AM
I hadn’t seen the film in many moons, and I had forgotten that this film version is also rather dull.

So, she drank wine and I drank cranberry juice, and we both ate pizza and watched the film.

I am not sure that seeing the movie is going to excite her more about the callbacks.

Post by: TCB on January 31, 2020, 01:23:54 AM
I told her that I didn’t remember the play being dull the last time I did it, but it was a long time ago that I last saw the film.

Oh, here is an amusing local theater tidbit.  A new Tacoma theater company has just opened their first production.  They came up with this amazing clever idea of doing TAMING OF THE SHREW (and you will love this) and setting it in Tacoma, Washington!

Title: Re: TUMMY TROUBLE
Post by: TCB on January 31, 2020, 01:32:34 AM
Hello?  Has nobody ever seen the movie 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU?  It is a retelling of TAMING OF THE SHREW and setting it in Tacoma, Washington.  Well, granted, Padua High School is supposed to be in Seattle, but they filmed it right here in Tacoma.

I guess I should have said right “there” in Tacoma, since I no longer live in T-town.

I heard today that the new revival of WEST SIDE STORY that is currently in previews on Broadway is the first revival of the show to use all brand new choreography, rather than that unknown guy, Jerome Robbins.

Oh, and they have cut the song, “I Feel Pretty”.

DR Jeanne, I understand your impeachmentitis.  I've been fascinated by the whole procedure, but I'm mostly aggravated by the Senate GOP stonewall and the President's legal team, of which I have nothing good to post.  Mr Herschmann and the rest are disgusting.  I think Adam Schiff is brilliant.

I'll be glad when the thing is over because it's a trial where we knew the verdict before anything, and it's an ugly depressing verdict.  I just heard a bit of Trump's last night rally on the CBS news, and his comments about the disgusting left and his enemies only make me wish they would be ended by something deadly hitting him in the face.

Well, my computer is acting up - I've rebooted it twice since the last post and I thought it would never load in again - and my wristwatch battery is dead, so, along with my Petco trip this morning, I must stop vat a jeweler.

I am not sure that seeing the movie is going to excite her more about the callbacks.

As you know, the theater as a performer (or tech or even an audience member) is a much more visceral experience than just watching a movie, which makes it a more valuable experience...even if the play isn't my (or your) cuppa. ;)

Just my 2¢.

Why don't they remake a bad movie, instead of remaking a good movie? Like, make a bad movie into a good movie. Like Man of La Mancha. Another one is Guys and Dolls, which bored me so much I turned it off.  Or Brigadoon. Or I heard that Paint Your Wagon didn't follow the musical (never saw either).

I've always felt that Dr Doolittle needed another chance. I love the score, but the movie didn't quite make it for me. I was very surprised to learn of the new DOOLITTLE, but question whether I'll like it any better. We'll see. I shouldn't prejudge.

DR Jane, yes I read When You See Me by Lisa Gardner in November.  It was fantastic. But I would suggest that people read D.D. Warren #8,9 and 10 first as they are really connected to this book.

Can you reserve the e-book months before release date?  That is what i always do at my library.

Not usually.  I am 21st in the queue on 4 copies.  Apparently I missed when it first became available to put a hold on it.   Sometimes I am the first or close to the first in the queue.

I use goodreads to see when my favorite authors have new releases. And then I suggest them first to the library.  99% of the time I am first.

Ashland has a reccomendation option for eBooks.  I have had them take years to get the book so I stopped doing that.  Just the other day I decided to try again on a book that the library has all of the previous books in the series.

There really aren't going to be too many sound cues and Silva has been dealing with those, more than I have been.

I have a whole bunch of mostly period pieces that pug the director really likes, so that's good.

I had originally thought of maybe using music (ballets, operas, symphonies, etc.) inspired or based on Shakespeare's plays, but all of those have really big orchestras and that doesn't fit too well with the show, so I won't be using any of those...which is fine.

The other idea I had for the music was to use songs from musicals based on Shakespeare's shows, but pug didn't like that at all, so that's a no go.

But I have some lute music by John Dowland, who was born a year before Shakespeare, and died about 10 years after Will.
