Well, you've read the notes, the notes were vis-a-vis, and now it is time for you to post until the vis-a-vis cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: COWCATCHER!
-
I had a really interesting telephonic conversation yesterday with a total stranger who'd written me after doing a Google search on a certain human and finding an extract from Album Produced by online (Amazon, one would presume). She wrote me after reading said extract and told me how much she commiserated with me because the person she read about in the extract is part of her family and, she said, nothing but weird, and that she was not surprised by anything she read. So, yesterday I got an earful about this person and the stories were pretty horrifying. Sometimes it's fun to be validated by knowing and hearing from someone who tells you you weren't crazy to think what you thought. It was fun and she was the voice twin of dear reader Jeanne, actually.

That's very interesting. And kind of sad. Why do people have to be like that. :-\
-
There are usually medical reasons why people behave irrationally. This woman was very sweet. I mostly listened, but had a few things to say :)
-
Listening to the film music of Stanley Myers - love this guy.

So, I burned the first DVD of the videotapes that my mom gave me. It's five hours of when my dad went with his church to Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, New York City, and then Seattle in 1996. There's no narration, no title cards, just completely random video.
-
Now, I'm burning the next DVD, which is just random home movies of our family with my dad's youngest sister and mom (who has since died) visiting from California, as well as other videos of my mom's brother and his wife visiting from Germany, and my parents' 30th wedding anniversary party. In amongst all this footage are at least three friends of my parents' that have since passed away. I'm sure that they'll like that.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well with a bed full of cats last night. It was rather chilly, and I buried myself under a lot of blankets. I did not want to get out of bed.
-
As soon as kitty cleanup is finished, I must run off to Dr Aronoff's office for another pre-surgery prep kit. I am concerned that everything is set except for the damned HMO approval.
-
Last night I started to watch Orson Wells' Chimes At Midnight and decided I wasn't in the mood.
-
Good morning, all.

Last night I started to watch Orson Wells' Chimes At Midnight and decided I wasn't in the mood.
That’s on my to-watch list.
-
I had a good night’s sleep and am rather amazed at that.
-
Follow-up at the doctor today.
No big deal, but it gets me out of the house.
-
T.O.D.
Off-hand, I can't think of any film score that made a lasting impression on me during the past 20 years. If it HAD made an impression, I would have bought the CD.
I think the last 2 movie sound tract CDs i bought were TITANIC (1997) and ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA (1984).
If there were others, I don't recall.
-
I published my new one-person play last night.
The Kindle edition is already available.
Waiting for Amazon to approve the paperback before I announce. the title.
-
Good morning, all.
-
If it hadn't been so expensive, I would have purchased the optional COWCATCHER for my PT Cruiser.
-
SUPER VIBES for DR VIXMOM.
-
Glad to hear that MR BK's rehearsals are moving along well. Of course we at PCPH will be having a virtual something or other, probably in September.....time will tell what it will be.
I really don't think folks would be interested in sitting at their computers for more than two hours and watching a play.....some can hold interest, but I'm not sure something we produce can do so.
-
The only time I hear or read soundtracks and music discussed is here at HHW......I am not sure I have a favorite from the last couple of decades.
I did, as did DR DRUXY and a several million others, buy the Titanic soundtrack.
-
Doctor visit vibes for DR DRUXY.
-
MR BK when you are doing a Google Search, you can click on "Books" at the top of the page and you'll get a list of books, some with excerpts, that talk about your subject.
Using quote marks sometimes narrows down the search.
-
For instance I found this mention of MR BK in the preface of a book.
https://www.google.com/books/edition/From_Immigrants_to_U_S_Citizenship_to_th/zXWtAQAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Bruce+Kimmel%22&pg=PR11&printsec=frontcover
-
It is only going to be in the 60's today, so I'm going to attempt the Beef Stew.....we shall see what we shall see.
-
I just read this article from American Cinematographer on
The Dramatic Photography of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (https://ascmag.com/articles/the-dramatic-photography-of-virginia-woolf)
that made me want to watch the film again. Like, real soon.
Which wouldn't be a bad idea since I haven't watched it since way before the Warner Archives Blu-ray was released. The article and included images are wonderful. The photo of the books in the living room makes me want to know what each one was, especially since they very carefully hand-picked each book. But that's just one aspect of an amazing set.
I think BK said the film's score by Alex North is a bit of a letdown, and my vague recollection tells me I probably agree with that assessment.
-

It's supposed to be just about 70 here today and tomorrow. I haven't looked ahead yet but as of yesterday it was even supposed to reach (gasp!) 80 for a couple of days next week.
-
Last night I started to watch Orson Wells' Chimes At Midnight and decided I wasn't in the mood.
That’s on my to-watch list.
My introduction to Chimes At Midnight was seeing it at USC's Norris Cinema in an Orson Welles film festival in late 1981. I was blown away by the world he created in that film, and especially by Welles and Gielgud themselves.
I kept one of the small posters they made up for the festival, and there are a few of my handwritten notes on it. It seems they presented Chimes twice due to a schedule rearrangement, and I'm not sure I was there the first time, but I was on the second night when they showed Macbeth followed by Chimes, and guests that evening included Dan O'Herlihy who'd played Macduff.
Edit: Welles was there, too, but on one or two other nights.

I’m hoping today is the beginning of the downturn inyo the holiday weekend. Yesterday was plain irritating.
-
DR Elmore:
You've referred to your contact Suad who has been so helpful in getting you into the system and getting it working for you. I need a similar saint in CT because something in the filing process isn't working for me, so I'm wondering how you found this person and made contact, and which NY office she's in. This probably amounts to no real use to me, but I'll take any clue I can get.
-
I am home from my trek to the East Side. My legs are killing me so I'm going to lie down.

All of Orson Welles' movies, whether good or bad, are fascinating.
-
I am interested in seeing the Orson Welles film that was recently assembled.....not sure if it is online somewhere......WIND SOMETHING OR OTHER.....
-
The stew is simmering away.....I shall have some directly.....and then either enjoy it or or throw it away.....
-
DR CHAS SMITH we are supposed to have temps in the 80's this weekend.
-
That makes sense, since we usually get your weather (more or less) a couple of days later.
-
I am interested in seeing the Orson Welles film that was recently assembled.....not sure if it is online somewhere......WIND SOMETHING OR OTHER.....
The Other Side of the Wind. I think it was released (?). But I haven't seen it either. Reactions were definitely mixed.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! Today I will christen my new mixer by baking a cinnamon pecan coffee cake. Then I will make chicken pie for our dinner using chicken leftover from last night's dinner.
-
I need to give Welles’ The Immortal Story another try. The dubbing drove me crazy. I know some can’t deal with subtitles. I’m the exact opposite.
-
Ginny, I’ll be there by 4:30.
-
In spirit.
-
Spielberg is said to be developing Smash for Broadway. Oy.
-
I am so grateful that I was initiated into the world of movie subtitles at a fairly early age. Hearing a movie in its original language, and getting a far better translation than any dubbing can provide, is where it's at, man.
-
Dr Aronoff called me about an hour ago. He thinks I will be released on Thursday, Not Wednesday as I had hoped. He's decided that rather than make this surgery an appendectomy/tumor removal/possible colon repair if there's any cancerous damage to focus on appendix and tumor and, if needed, the repair in another surgery. I have so much to look forward to!
-
That's a lot happening below the belt DR ELMORE!
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH that's the title.....maybe I will go find a copy somewhere on the web....
-
Beef stew was okay.....very bland.....so I added about four tablespoons of ketchup which helped a lot.......
-
Looks like a dog's dinner - but tastes okay.....

My neighbor Judy has a friend whose cat just died and the friend is blaming it on Fancy Fest cat food. Since I feed my cats Fancy Feast, she's not dealing well today. She sent me this warning:
https://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/fancy-feast.html?#sort=recent&filter=1
So, I emailed Dr Mohr about this, and she said she's heard nothing. I think I'll start looking at other cat foods when my Fancy Feast supply gets low.

I like the Alex North score a lot - especially the theme - I hate the soundtrack album because it has dialogue. But the North score doesn't serve the film that well - its beauty makes everything seem melancholy and some of the humor goes missing because of it. But it's beautiful music.
-
Didn't care for the assembled The Other Side of the Wind - I'm sure I wrote about it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
Haircut in forty-five minutes.
-
Let’s move on ...
-
Three!
-
Continued positive and hopeful thoughts and vibes for vixmom and vixmom-mom to get through this.
DITTO!
-
And vibes to DR elmore as you, once again, prepare for your upcoming surgery.

Oh my.
MEGA VIBES A SECOND SURGERY WILL NOT BE NEEDED!

In a home, not a shop-correct?

I don't know that the food actually killed the cat, however, I have never been a fan of the quality of Fancy Feast and pretty much avoided it.

Oh, God, yes! Yes!! Yes!!!

Missy Annabelle is particularly frisky this afternoon. I received three shipments today, two from Amazon and one from Chewy, which was a lot of cat food. I unpacked everything in the hall and when I carried the first load of contents into the apartment, she darted into the hall. I figured, fine, I've got enough to deal with at the moment. She didn't go running to the fourth floor, just ran around the third, sniffing doors, checking out Judy's shopping cart while I carried things into the apartment. When she got bored, she came in with me.
-
Now that I've fed them, Thatch and Stella are eating, but Annabelle plays coy until I pick her up and carry her to her bowl. Then she behaves as if she hadn't eaten in years.
-
Back from the doctor, who has "released" me.

I know they released a 2-LP set of the entire soundtrack, plus the standard one. Are you saying the standard one still retained bits of dialogue?
A few other soundtrack recordings have done that, though the examples don't come to mind right now. Regardless of what they leave in, it usually sounds strange -- and of course it defeats the purpose of a music album in the first place.
-
Back from the doctor, who has "released" me.
Congratulations on your release.

This morning rain was expected at 11:00 prompting us to be home from our walk before then. As we returned just before 11:00 the sun came out.
-
There was a light rain later but all was supposed to be clear at 1:00.
-
Just as we walked outside at 1:00 for our afternoon walk it began to pour.
-
Fortunately we were still under an awning. We are waiting for the rain to ease up a bit before heading out.
-
Haircut done and I feel BETTER!
-
I only had the 1 LP version of the VW soundtrack and it was loaded with talking.....
-
Last night on TCM after the showing of FLOWER DRUM SONG, Mr Dave Karger asked Miss Nancy Kwan how she felt about her singing being dubbed by B.J. Baker......
Kwan demurred a bit about being a singer herself and then finally said that she asked producer about it and that "Ross said I was going to be dubbed and that was that.....and I figured, well it would only make me look better so......"
-
She had a good attitude about it.
-
We headed out as the rain stopped. After a little while we headed home to beat the next downpour.
-
The sun is shinning again but we are staying put.
-
I thought I had struck gold finding a ginger cookie at the bottom of the freezer.
-
I let it partially thaw, just enough to break off a piece and, with great anticipation, popped it into my mouth.
-
I almost started crying my disappointment was that great. It was not a ginger cookie but an old frozen fake meat burger.
-
I only had the 1 LP version of the VW soundtrack and it was loaded with talking.....
Oy!
-
I had a nice dinner, and all I want to do is lie down and nap. I have to wash the kitty dishes and I just don't have the energy. Annabelle is acting up. She's either bored or wanting her treat early.
-
After the haircut, I spent two hours doing the same thing I did for two hours yesterday, just to have an option. We'll see which option is better.
-
Then I went to the mail place and picked up a couple of little packages, then came home.
-
I'd already put in my cart the Cheesecake Factor dinner treat for tonight, but by the time I went to place the order at four it was too late - they close at four-thirty. I really wanted that, too. So, I defaulted to my favorite pasta at Stanley's - that should be here shortly.

What is their cut off time for orders?
-
Cheesecake delivery is roughly forty minutes. Had I ordered at three-thirty I'd have been fine.
-
Set an alarm to order tomorrow :)
-
Bruce I think you should have taken a photo of the traffic today. It seems your local FB friends can't imagine it ;)

Amazon informs me that there is a week or more delay these days in publishing paperback books. Kindle editions, however, go live almost immediately.
Therefore I am proud to announce that the Kindle edition of BUD ABBOTT ALONE is now available for download on Amazon.
Growing up, Abbott and Costello were my heroes. I've seen every movie they made, many more than once.
In fact, during the late 1960s, I was fortunate enough to meet Bud Abbott when he was voicing the A&C cartoon TV series.
I enjoyed writing this one.

I hope I can stay awake until bedtime.
Me, too.

Michael Connelly has a new mystery coming out, Fair Warning, that uses his reporter character from The Poet. Looking forward to that.
-
Started a movie, but not in the mood right now.
-
The pasta from Stanley's was perfect, and really still hot when it arrived. I ate every last morsel.
-
Good night, all.

Bruce I think you should have taken a photo of the traffic today. It seems your local FB friends can't imagine it ;)
I wanted to, but it's hard when you're actually driving. I asked the question there because no one can explain this phenomenon to me. First it was the beaches are open - the irony there is the traffic was going in the opposite direction towards Hollywood and downtown. No beaches there last I looked. Then the other thing was Memorial Day - so, if I'm understanding this, starting yesterday, everyone was leaving town for Memorial Day - and going WHERE exactly to do WHAT exactly, which is my entire point. Some said more businesses are open, like Lowe's - so thousands of cars are on the freeway going to Lowe's? For me, if this had been going on the entire time I would get it. But up until yesterday, which there seemed to be more cars each day, the flow of the traffic was fine - one could always go 65mph. And then bam - bumper-to-bumper.
-
I hope I can stay awake until bedtime.
Me, too.
I managed and now I am wondering how I am going to fall asleep ::)
-

I am not sure I read The Poet. I missed a few of the Bosch books. I did read the second book with the reporter. Thanks for letting me know about this 3rd one.
-
Wow, I am 187th in my library queue out of 6 books.
-
What is this page four malarkey for heaven's sake???
-
Page four is a bore.
-
Page five hear me roar.
-
I tried my local library and am 73rd in the queue with one copy.

'night
-
Good evening.
-
Page 4? Again?
-
That is why we are still on page four. Everybody is out driving on the L.A. freeway.
-
Sorry I have not been around
-
Well, that takes care of Jan and Jeanne.
-
Everyday is exactly like the other and nothing really suitable for public posting
-
What about the rest of these people?
-
I did get a piece of sad news today
-
Is everyone going to stay away all weekend?
-
An attorney I worked with at the job before the last one passed away from a sudden heart attack. He was only 66
-
He was a real nice guy and I have many fond memories if working for him
-
Everyday is exactly like the other and nothing really suitable for public posting
It is okay, we all understand what you are going through.
-
There may be a glimmer of light in the tunnel
-

My condolences. I am so sorry about your friend.
-
That is far too young to die.
-
There may be a glimmer of light in the tunnel
YES? Do tell.
-
A health care worker that we had for my dad and who ended up staying friendly with my mom will be available to cover part of the days for us.
-
A health care worker that we had for my dad and who ended up staying friendly with my mom will be available to cover part of the days for us.
How wonderful! How soon can she start?
-
While it mostly frees up my brother, who has the daytime shift, she will also cover Saturdays and Sundays which has been my shift along with every night.
-
Sorry about the friend, vixmom - this has been a horrible year for deaths.
-
She can only do 1- 7:30 but it will mean I have Saturday afternoon home and since my brother takes Sunday nights I’ll have Sunday afternoon until Monday evening ( Minday being a holiday). To actually be in my own house
-
She’s starting Saturday and I hope it really works out
-
Because matricide was becoming a distinct possibility

Thanks Tommy
-
Sorry about the friend, vixmom - this has been a horrible year for deaths.
Thanks BK
-
Oh lawksalordy it’s 2:31 am. I should try and sleep
-
Goodnight fellas
-
Some of these people are so stupid. The owner of this local fitness center owner is suing our governor for “robbing him of his constitutional rights.”
-
Good night, vixmom.
-
Good night, all.
-
I published my new one-person play last night.
The Kindle edition is already available.
Waiting for Amazon to approve the paperback before I announce. the title.
Congrats, Druxy!
-
Today, I stayed in bed until I got up and fed my cat.
-
I was working on my computer for a little bit before I needed to be part of a work Zoom meeting.
-
The Zoom meeting lasted about an hour and was very informative.
-
It was for anyone on the staff who might have questions about HR issues (nothing specific or personal, of course), or for people who just wanted to find out what issues other people wanted to find out about.
-
I forgot that they changed the policy about vacation leave.
-
It used to be that you could only accrue up 240 hours (or prorated to your FTE).
-
You couldn't go into the next month with more than 240 hours.
-
This point is also known as "Use it or lose it."
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
I will actually be at that point next month!
-
This is only the second time in my ENTIRE Timberland career where I have been at this point!
-
I usually just nickel-and-dime it throughout the year. ::)
-
But the new policy is that you can keep accruing vacation over the 240 hours until the next fiscal year!
-
So, if someone reaches 240 hours in January, they can keep adding their regular vacation accrual for almost a whole year! :o
-
HOWEVER, you can't just take a giant chunk of vacation to use up all that vacation.
-
I think the policy was changed because some people, mainly out in the branches, can't always take vacation when they need to, and this gives everyone more flexibility in being able to schedule vacations when buildings need to be staffed.
-
A couple of years ago (when 240 hours was a hard limit), they also changed the policy that if you did happen to go over 240 hours, those extra hours weren't actually lost...they would be transferred over into your sick leave, which doesn't have a cap. :)
-
At one point, I had over 1800 hours of sick leave!
-
But we also had the policy that in the month of January, you could transfer sick leave to your vacation balance...but that was at a three-to-one ratio, so up to 120 hours of sick leave could be converted to 40 hours of vacation.
-
I'd actually been doing that for several years, and donating sick leave anytime another Timberland employee ran out of their own leave time and asked for donations from other staff, which is why I now have just under 1500 hours of sick leave.
-
So, if we reach the end of the year and we have MUCH more than 240 hours of vacation and we can't go into the next year with more than that, all of that vacation time will be moved into your sick leave.
-
Anytime that happens, it's a one-to-one transfer.
-
It's only during January if someone wants to convert sick leave to vacation is it at a third of the value.
-
Either way, they're pretty cool perks.
-
We were able to get those because the Admin and the Union negotiated in good faith for the benefit of not only the staff, but for the organization, as well.
-
So, after the Zoom meeting, I went to the Tumwater Meconi's Subs (https://www.meconissubs.com/) and got a whole egg salad sub sandwich.
-
I had a coupon for $2.00 off, so I used it...but I also tipped well. ;)
-
I ate half of it when I got home, and saved the other half for later.
-
After eating and reading my book on my Kindle, I logged back into my work laptop and watched a whole bunch of required training videos. :P
-
Since some people can't actually work from home, some of us can do something, and that something is watch required training videos. ::)
-
So I watched.
-
I watched I think more than a dozen, and then read all the articles that were also require reading.
-
I got through everything that is due to be required to be watched or read up through September.
