Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both high and mighty, and now it is time for you to post until the high and mighty cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BELLWETHER!
-
Topic of the Day:
Airport
Airplane!
Catch Me If You Can
Independence Day
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
King Kong

Now playing - the first real piece of more modern music from Munch, in mono - the greatest performance of Honegger's Symphony No. 5. And in much better sound than a CD I already had of it - all the shrillness is gone and it sounds fantastic.

Nice.

So, last month, I found and purchased on eBay the cassette release of The Secret Garden (http://castalbums.org/recordings/The-Secret-Garden-1986-London-Studio-Cast/3469#11842) with Barbara Cook, Judy Kaye, John Cullum, George Rose and Max Showalter. Yesterday, I was finally able to give the cassette to my sister's boyfriend and he made WAV files of the cassette and just sent them to me! I'll listen to them at work today and see how good it all sounds, then tonight after work, I'll be able to break up the files into the individual songs...and I'll finally have the three songs that weren't released on the LP or CD! :D
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I think my foot injury is actually ankle tendonitis and it's killing me. Getting about is quite painful, and it's my own damned fault, which makes it more irritating.
-
I did sleep rather well. I had one peculiar dream which seemed to be partly TV soap opera and partly reality, although I cannot make sense now of any of it. I do remember that the head of the last foundation I worked for and for whom I recorded five albums was in it.
-
I cannot remember for the life of me if I'm seeing my visiting nurse or physical therapist today. There will be a food delivery at some point.
-
The Lysice has done wonders for Annabelle the past few days, I've heard no sneezing or wheezing, and she's so happy she's been chirping like a big fat gray bird. When she's content, she purrs but when she's really happy or thrilled, she chirps, so I'm a happy Daddy with a sore leg this morning.
-
I have no idea what's on today's agenda, so I'll tidy up and work on my orchestration until whatever fresh hell shows up. I do need to walk to the post box this morning and mail my ballot for the NY Primary.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished, I've tidied the bathroom, and made the bed. I think I will lie down with the cats for a bit, and then get to work.
-
Good morning, all.

Ankle vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Glad to hear that DR JANE is feeling better.
-
Good morning, all.
-
And.....it's a Monday.
-
Preparing these interviews is keeping me from SIMPLY.
We have another four scheduled for tomorrow and then another four or more on Friday.
I have to get the questions ready (send them to the victims, although my follow up questions are ad libbed) and transfer them to cards and collect photographs of everybody to tip in during interviews.....
I hope people like them.....and learn some new things.....even though I look like.....well....what I look like.
-
For those doing these computer things...I.E. MR BK - do you wear makeup of any kind.
My face seems to be about four different colors of pink and red, but I don't want to end up looking like this.

My visiting physical therapist will be here shortly. I hope she can give me some exercises for this ankle.
-
Monday morning greetings! I just had a "first:" addressing a Father's Day card to our son.
-
My visiting physical therapist will be here shortly. I hope she can give me some exercises for this ankle.
DR Elmore, I'm so sorry you've joined the ankle tendonitis club! Hope the PT can help...

I think Milena did help me out today. She gave me four or five exercises.

This is good news! I see one of the dissenters is that pig Kavanaugh.

Any kind of tendonitis (or anything remotely similar) is bad enough, but I should think having it in the ankle has got to be the worst. Like, you know, we have to walk on those things!
-
Annabelle and Stella behaved pretty well while the therapist was here, and Thatch found a new hideaway in the closet. Annabelle is particularly frisky.

But of course!
-
Just before Milena showed up, I got my 3-day delivery of food, and immediately afterwards Fairway showed up with a delivery of three shopping bags of food, a gift from my fifth floor neighbors Ann and Jen! I don't know where I am going to put all of this.

Dr Elmore: After you've filed your weekly claim on Sunday, what day are the funds in your bank account?
Might be different in different states, but just curious. I think ours takes around three business days.
And yes, after weeks (!) of difficulty in getting myself into the system, I, DR ChasSmith, a gigging musician (not to be confused with a gagging one), am about to start receiving the pandemic benefits. :)

I think the fact thst Gorsuch wrote the majority opinion that was a surprise. Imagine, Supreme Court justices embracing a concept like “liberty and justice for all.”

Tuesday or Wednesday, and I don't know why it's Tuesday one week and Wednesday the next.
-
And PUA congratulations, DR ChasSmith!
-
The neighbor above me has been gone for over two months. She returned yesterday. I saw her in the basement this morning, and she said she had been in Florida.
-
I must make a trek to the corner post box. I may stop in the corner bodega for a few things.

Few pieces of music move me to tears as Rusalka's Hymn to the Moon (Dvorak); as soon as she reaches the 2:30 mark, I'm a mess:

Oh man, yes, with the harp figure coming in there.
Which orchestra is that? I didn't try to read through all the comments.
DR Elmore, did you see the Met production a few years back? Their "Live in HD" was my first time seeing or hearing the piece, and I loved it but haven't found a way to revisit that production. Do you have a recommendation for one?

TOD - Air Force One
And a nod to Cast Away, because of the plane crash that sets up the story. One of the most frightening things I've ever sat through in a movie theatre.

That reminded of Reckless, where Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez are among the survivors of a plane crash. Great movie. But the plane crash scenes are terrifying.

Forgot to renew my car registration. Now I have spent the last 45 minutes waiting. And it’s still a long slog to go.
-
Listening to a bit of Fair Warning, which is getting good.
-
Thank you DR George. I am still ok today so until my next flare up I should be good for awhile.
-

Vibes she stays healthy! And vibes for your ankle!

The only stage production I've ever seen was at Houston Grand Opera with a very young Renee Fleming, while we were working on Babes in Toyland, and it was quite wonderful.
-
The Peter Weigl film is on youtube. I have never seen this, but I have liked several of his filmed operas, particularly The Turn of the Screw.

This has been a lost day. Playing with those food deliveries took up most of my day.

The neighbor above me has been gone for over two months. She returned yesterday. I saw her in the basement this morning, and she said she had been in Florida.
Were you both wearing masks?
-
Forgot to renew my car registration. Now I have spent the last 45 minutes waiting. And it’s still a long slog to go.
Oh, oh. Keith did ours online and then it gave us the option to renew our driver's licenses very early. He, of course, took advantage of doing those online. I think the driver's renewal is why we both received updated voter registration cards.
-
When purchasing into our condo complex we liked that it was open vs the buildings we looked at in Portland. Right now having an open airy entrance, covered but airy, is appreciated. If we are outside of our unit we don't worry about wearing masks & our neighbors are good about distancing.
We have an exit outside our unit which is also near stairs. We headed out the exit for our morning walk just as our upstairs neighbor & dog rushed out the exit from the stairs. We all jumped and then began laughing. That little corner where the exits meet is a bit close, not the best place to be laughing with your neighbor during a pandemic ;D
-
Congratulations to DR CHAS SMITH on his accomplishment. Spend it in good health.
-
We missed the rain this morning but it was coming down hard as we drove to Fred Meyer to pick up prescriptions and a few food items. It just stopped. I guess we should go out for our second walk soon.
-
I'm up, I'm up - I got eight hours of sleep - was up for thirty minutes at seven, but thankfully the noisy neighbors were quiet today.

Mine got lost in a stack of papers. Too late for that now

If it were up to me the same thing might have happened.

Good afternoon.
-
I met my son's family at the zoo late this morning. They opened for the first time with some severe restrictions. My grandson took my hand and we went on across the bridge and into the zoo while his parents were showing their membership card. I think that's the longest Mama's been out of his sight ever.
-
It was outside, so I felt ok about it. For the first time, he called me Gaga. He told me about the raff, the ingos, and the ebras.
-
When it was time for me to get into my car, he cried.
-
I just wish they could get up and ready to go out before 11 a.m. It's pretty warm out there.
-
And that's my day.

Awww, this warms my heart.

Soooo sweet :)

Did you cry on the way home?

Yes, with that heat. May you have many more outdoor excursions together.
-
And that's my day.
A wonderful day.
-

Truly wonderful.
-
Picked up a package, came home, made one little change in the show order, then began writing the commentary. I'm a third of the way though now and I'm gonna try to finish tonight. Food is on its way.
-
Our conveniently located 24 Hour Fitness will not be reopening. The locations that will be reopening are not convient. Keith is looking at other options other than 24 Hour Fitness.
-
Today for lunch (about three hours ago, now), I went to a local Subway and they had available seating in the place! I sat there and read on my Kindle as I ate and drank my diet Coke. It was good. :)
-
Was it busy inside?
-
I am glad you enjoyed your lunch.
-
I personally have trouble spending much time inside of a Subway. They smell makes me gag. I have no idea why. Often I smell a Subway before I see it is there so this is not in my imagination.
-
Was it busy inside?
Not at all. One older couple was sitting there, and I was the only other person who stayed inside.
-
Nice. Did you wear masks while you ordered?
-
Nice. Did you wear masks while you ordered?
I did, but a couple of people who came in after me and took their food to go didn't.
-
And both people behind the counter wore masks.
-
Well, it's time for me to leave work and head home. But first, I need to go to Fred Meyer (with my mask) and get some cat food. I've gone a couple of times over the last week, but kept forgetting the coupon for cat food that I have. I finally remembered it today, so I finally get to use it!
Be back later.
-
I was bad at lunch today. I had a double hamburger and tater tots from Sonic, next door to the place where I got my oil changed.
-
First red meat in a long, long time. And it was very good.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
I took a long walk this evening. The temperature had dropped to something bearable.
-
And I had time to listen to another hour of Fair Warning. I should finish the book tonight. Fun and intense. Very topical.
-
We just watched Mister Scoutmaster with Clinton Webb. If you have missed this gem do watch it. If it has been awhile, watch it again.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing and now listening to Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique - the only Belioz piece I seem to like. I'd heard The Damnation of Faust earlier - didn't care for it at all but a very good recording and performance. Munch's Symphonie Fantasique is a stereophonic feast for the earballs. And now, back to the commentary - down to the final third now.
-
And both people behind the counter wore masks.
Good for them.
-
'night

I got my cat food and I used the coupon, and got a couple of other things with coupons also, so I saved a few dollars tonight. :)
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #100! ;D
-
Finished writing the commentary. I'm sure I'll finesse it, but at least it's done.
-
Listening to a Chopin piano concerto. That guy could also write a good tune.
-
What on earth are we doing on page four?
-
Shouldn't there be more?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Good evening.
-
A big cheeseburger sounds really good, but I don’t think I would go to Sonic.

Whick one is you, Jack?
-

I have always enjoyed his salads.
-
What on earth are we doing on page four?
Is that all there is?
-
George, when are your branches reopening?
-
I had an exciting day.
-
I took a drive.
-
I stopped to pick-up my prescriptions at the drive-thru.
-
It is strange that all the women at Rite Aid know me on sight, and they know my name.
-
Too bad the cute young man who works there doesn’t remember me.
-
Oh well.
-
George, when are your branches reopening?
It's not yet been determined. The official COVID-19 Closure notice on the library's website (https://www.trl.org/) is:
June 1, 2020 - Library curbside service (only) added to Phase 2 of the Governor’s Safe Start plan. TRL staff is preparing for "Library Takeout" service to begin as soon as all guidelines are met. All Library facilities, including book returns, remain CLOSED to the public until further notice. Library material due dates and holds have been extended. More information can be found on our Health & Safety Update page (https://www.trl.org/health-safety-updates).
-
Oh well.
Well, if he's nice to look at, there's that, at least. ;)

The last name of the police officer who shot the man in Atlanta was Rolfe. Isn’t that the name of the telegraph delivery kid in SOUND OF MUSIC, who turns into a Nazi?

Rowlf was the first Muppet Star. He was on THE JIMMY DEAN SHOW back in early 60’s.
-
He didn’t play the piano back then.

I didn't know that.
-
He's one of my favorite Muppets.
-
I'm thinking a big cheeseburger may be in the cards for the meal o' the day.
-
I might try somewhere I've never been.
-
Now playing, Munch conducting the first recording of the Menotti violin concerto, which is one of my favorites and what a great performance this is.
-
What is this low posting number?
-
And then I wrote...
-
There are times when I'm sitting here like so much fish when I could swear I smell cigarette smoke. Why is that?
-
Tomorrow is another day.

Every time you write Munch, I think you are meaning Munich.
-
Tomorrow is another day.
Tomorrow, June 16, is my mom's actual birthday!
-
I sometimes smell cigarette smoke in my home, too.
-
Happy birthday mom.
-
I went outside and can't smell any smoke out there, so it's weird.
-
Well, good night, gentlemen.
