Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a solo obligatto for cello, and now it is time for you to post until the concerto for cello and cows cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: METAPHOR!
-
I'll still be at work tonight at 6:00 PDT, but I'll be able to watch the live test! Tomorrow, however, I'll be at my parents' playing cards, so I won't be able to watch that one live.
-
Topic of the Day: cello, piano, viola, harpsichord. Of course, that little list will change the next time I'm asked.
-
And I don't have any specific favorite concerti.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It was a painful night. I got some sleep but my joints ached a helluva lot: knees, hips, right shoulder. Annabelle has made my bed her new sleeping space, so she was with me most of the night. Thatch and Stella popped up at various moments.
-
I need a post office vosot, so I may just bite the bullet and make the trip today.
-
Otherwise, I plan to spend my day in slothful relaxation, doing as little as possible.
-
Nice new glasses, DR George!
-
How are you feeling, DR TCB?
-
Favorite instrument: oboe
-
Concerti:
Grieg Piano Concerto in A-minor
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto
Ravel Piano Concerto No. 1
Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 2
Mozart Clarinet Concerto
Victor Herbert Cello Concerti 1 & 2
Dvorak Cello Concerto
Elgar Cello Concerto
Barber Violin Concerto
-
I've finished the clean up and I must make the bed. I think I will make the post office trek this morning and get it out of my hair.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I had one of my classic dreams, and only one little element of it has thus far come into focus: my bathrobe, whose design pattern clearly had real life references even though the actual bathrobe is a solid color. But I want to recall the surroundings and people and whatever the situation was because I sense these things were a little different than the usual, and of interest. Damn it.
-
Damn it to HELL, I say.
-
Good morning everyone. I hope everyone has a great day.
-
I never did watch the Met’s The Nose last week, damn it. And I didn’t know a Cosi fan tutte was on last night or I would have tuned in to that. I do see a few cherce ones coming up, but I shall especially make the effort next Thursday to catch a Wozzeck from this past January. If that was in theaters, it blew right by me — though thinking back to my own hellish schedule during that time, that would have been totally understandable.
-
I traded my METAPHOR for a MetaPhive as soon as they were available.
-
I see DR GEORGE made a spectacle of himself - very nice.
-
TOD:
Piano
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 especially as played by Mr Van Cliburn
-
Good morning, all.
-
Had a eeird dream, too, about having to work a cookbook giveaway and somebody not wanting the book because she already had it.
-
Now, already this morning, I can’t find my tart pans.
-
Found. They were hiding almost in plain sight.
-
I am home from the post office. When I arrived, there was no one in line waiting for a clerk. By the tme I finished filling out the customs form and got to the line, I was about 5th. The young lady waiting at the head of the line saw my distress in walking and standing - the damned POs need chairs for the old folk - and told me to go ahead of her. It was very nice of her.
-
Annabelle is sleeping on my bed, Thatch is happily settled in grandma's quilt cavern, and Stella follows me around like a puppy.
-
Great news from the Supreme Court today! A bad day for that Fat Orange Slug in the White House is like a week at the beach for me.

Two!
-
The house smells of fresh baked goods.
-
Love many of the concertos Elmore mentioned, especially the Barber, Ravel and Herbert. I will add Vivaldi’s series of concertos for bassoon, one of my favorite instruments.

Of course.

DR JOHN G I like the book LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN by Ben Ames Williams a lot.
Its chapters are told from different points of view and things are clearer and even more tense and bizarre than in the movie.

Can't you just state the facts without the hate? Seriously, I don't expect it here and I can't eat now.
-
Maybe I will be back later.

I think I would enjoy that.

I just saw one of my favorite names in an article, Eglantyne. So veddy British.
-
Yes, seriously. They are very unique.
-
Nice new glasses, DR George!
Thanks, Larry!

Yes, seriously. They are very unique.
I live across from Holy Trinity Church, and my front window faces the church. They have a lot of police funerals with bagpipes. After about ten minutes of the pipes, I'm ready to kill

I just found out that my library system will not allow people into our libraries until September 1, at the earliest. :-\

I have a feeling this post was about bagpipes.

Well, you all know I love casino carpets, lawn flamingos, and leopard spots. I don't exactly have good taste.
-
I like the mournful sound.

I think you have great taste. Except for bagpipes!

Well, let's turn the page.

I'm finishing up the last batch of pasta sauce with thin spaghetti. The sad thing is, I don't know if I'll ever brew up another delicious batch as this again!

The unpleasant rumor on FB is that tomorrow the New York City Animal Care Centers will resume euthanizing animals on a regular schedule. Damn!

Your response makes me very sad. I only ask here, take the hate to FB. You have no idea how sick I get and I am only suggesting at the issue. It is a problem I have had since I was 13 and has been debilitating in the past. Right now I don't think it is too much to ask for a little bit of kindness. Everywhere else we go is filled with hate, why does it have to also be here?

My coworker Rosenda is probably not going to make it. She has been in a Houston hospital for the past week with pneumonia on top of the cancer she had been treated for. We were just told the treatment had been stopped and she would be going home as soon as she was strong enough for the drive, maybe in another week or so.
-
DR Laura Keith tried the loop on his wrist trick you suggested. It works fine for him, thanks.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! Our granddaughter is one month old today.
-
I just found out that my library system will not allow people into our libraries until September 1, at the earliest. :-\
There are at least 2 systems here in Ohio - Cincinnati and Columbus - that had started opening and have now shut down again.
-
DR John G, I’m so sorry to hear about your co-worker.
-
I'm sorry for your sad news, John. I pray she will have peace.
-
DR Laura: And your favorite show is The Scottish Musical? :)

DR JohnG, I missed this. I'm so sorry.

-
DR JOHN G you can get a copy of LHTH at Abe Books for a couple of bucks plus shpg.
-
Our local CBS station lately, maybe in the past two months, has been running advertisements for some Christian church, and they really freak me out. Every time one runs, I think I'm on the wrong channel and expect some idiot televangelist to show up and offer autographed photos of Jesus at a reasonable price.
-
I'm up, I'm up - woke up at 1:20 after ten gloriously glorious hours of very needed sleep. Picked up an Island's burger at two, came home and ate it - very good. Was very surprised to see they had dine-in still - I could have sworn the governor took that away for three weeks, but then again, the story changes every two seconds so who knows?
-
Will go pick up mail now, then get ready for our Facebook and YouTube Live test.
-
Back from mail place and banking - ATM, thank goodness - and in less than two hours we do our first test.
-
Less than an hour to the Facebook and YouTube Live test - and no posts for over an hour.

I am headed to YouTube for the tests.
And I don't mean the SATs.....

Whew! I just made it! :D

Here at work, I have two monitors, and I actually had FB and YT synched up and watched them BOTH at the same time! ;D
-
This is what I watched:
-
:))
-
Nice. Lucky Me! I full screened MR BK's face......it's a nice face....
-
Great song, BK!
-
Whew! That was fun. Thanks to those who watched. I know Jane can't do music at all - a shame, as she'd definitely remember this song from when I wrote it.
-
An oldie but goodie. I was surprised in revisiting it that it's pretty sophisticated harmonically for a young Jew with no real musical training.
-
There are times I'm tempted to "adjust" a chord or phrase, but in the end it's what it is so I leave it alone.
-
Sounded just fine.
-
This is what I watched:
Neat :)

It is. I miss music. Which song?

Listening to pianist John Browning - this guy is one of my favorites - wonderfully sensitive, beautiful playing. It's another Sony box but only 12 CDs, which I got for a buck a CD. There are two performances of the magnificent Barber Piano Concerto - but nothing could top the first with George Szell conducting. Leonard Slatkin conducts the later recording which I'm looking forward to hearing. Right now, it's Prokofiev's second piano concerto (all five are in the box with Leinsdorf conducting) - wonderful performance. And even though I don't love solo piano music, I have to admit that I was charmed by Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, which I'd never heard. This is another original jackets collection, which I love.
-
After I feed the cats and settle me down, I'm going to watch this thing that was live on YouTube yesterday,
A Virtual Tour of the Largest Pipe Organ in the World! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kilo5ezDJGk)
The first organ recording I ever had was the Mercury LP "Bach on the Biggest" that my parents brought home for me when I was around seven or eight. My first great love in music was, believe it or not, organ playing, and I took lessons from a couple of really fine organists. Hence, that album. Naturally, I played that record to death (not sure if I still have that worn copy, must look), but I think I was as fascinated with that particular instrument and its setting as with the music itself.
Although my organ years are decades in the past, I'm always thrilled to find that Atlantic City has continued to care for it, and I'm looking forward to taking this little tour later.
-
Browning and Szell, yes, another great combination.
-
Lucky Me.
:)
-
Sung many times to your very own self.
💜
-
Time for me to leave work. During my lunch time, I bought a couple of poster frames and one is for my sister. I'll drop that off now and then go home.
Be back later.
-
Yikes. That organ tour, so much terminology to try to recall. And I didn’t know the thing is still undergoing a complete renovation, with another ten years to go. Mindboggling and fascinating.
-
Good night, all.
-
Seriously? TWO posts in more than FOUR hours?? :o
-
Today, I went to Michael's (the craft store) and bought a large (27" x 40") poster frame.
-
This Saturday is my sister's boyfriend's birthday.
-
I think he's going to be 70...and my sister is going to be 56 in September. ::)
-
I also think that they met in 1990!
-
Anyway, I never know what to get him for his birthday or Christmas because he can get himself anything that he wants.
-
Well, my sister had this very large (25" x 38") photograph of the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
-
Larry loves ballet.
-
My sister said that if I bought a frame, I could give Larry the picture.
-
Good deal!
-
So, I went to Michael's at my lunch time today and eventually found the frame that was large enough.
-
It took a lot longer than I expected!

-
That's not the picture that I'll be giving Larry.
-
We're all getting together on Saturday to celebrate his birthday.
-
Tomorrow after work, I'm going to my parents' to play Phase 10 with them and their friends.
-
So, I'll put the picture in the frame tomorrow night after I get home.
-
Then, it'll be ready for Saturday.
-
I'll try to remember to take a picture after it's in the frame.
-
Oh, my goodness...here's Hamilton Act 1 but it's Muppets (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZzDP-vQXao)!
-
:o
-
It looks like it's the WHOLE act one of Hamilton...but the guy is impersonating The Muppets!
-
Here's the "cast":
Alexander Hamilton - Kermit the Frog
Aaron Burr - The Great Gonzo
Eliza Schuyler - Miss Piggy
Marquis de LaFozette - Fozzie Bear
George Washington - Sam the Eagle
Angelica Schuyler - Camilla the Chicken
John Laurens - Beaker
Hercules Mulligan - Rowlf the Dog
King George III - Animal
Peggy Schuyler - Janice
Samuel Seabury - The Swedish Chef
Charles Lee - Elmo
Congressional Delegates - Floyd and Zoot
Crazy Patriot - Crazy Harry
Statler and Waldorf - Themselves
-
:))
-
Well, well, well...
-
TCB seems to have gone missing.
-
So has Arturo Toscanini, but that's understandable.
-
Most unseemly.
-
I've been working on a DVD for my friend Margo.
-
We're going to have lunch together tomorrow, and I need to finish it so that I can give it to her.
-
I have just finished it, but I now need to burn to the actual disc.
-
It shouldn't take as long as a Blu-ray, which can take a good couple of hours.
-
This should take less than an hour.
-
Then, I should be able to burn another copy for one of Margo's daughters.
-
Copying an already existing disc takes even less time.
-
I don't think I'll get that done tonight, but I can copy it when I get up in the morning.
-
Now...
-
...can...
-
...we...
-
...finally...
-
...get...
-
...to...
-
PAGE SIX?!?!
-
YES!! :D :D :D
-
Well, I hate to do it, but I'm off to bed. I just can't keep my eyes open. My DVD will continue to burn and I'll copy that in the morning.
Have a good tomorrow, all!
