Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hot and had flashes, and now it is time for you to post until the hot cows come home.

Full blown allergy attack. Hopefully the pill will kick in soon, but I'm telling you this was partially brought on by the air conditioning - maybe the filter needs changing.
Title: Re: HOT FLASHES
Post by: George on August 16, 2020, 01:20:00 AM
So last week, I posted about finding out that the quadraphonic Broadway cast recordings for both A Chorus Line (http://castalbums.org/recordings/A-Chorus-Line-1975-Original-Broadway-Cast/2375#67719) and Company (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Company-1970-Original-Broadway-Cast/3004#67718) are going to be released on SACD Hybrid CDs!  When I first found out, I bought them from Amazon from the manufacturer, Dutton/Vocalion, and with shipping (NOT Prime) and tax, the total would be $56.86.  I've paid that much for new CDs before, so I didn't mind.
Title: Re: HOT FLASHES
Post by: George on August 16, 2020, 01:20:51 AM
HOWEVER, after I bought them from Amazon, I looked up the CDs on Dutton/Vocalion (https://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/)'s website directly, and the cost would be £29.48, which is approximately only $37.65!  Fortunately, I was able to cancel the Amazon order and order it direct from England which will take longer, but will save me at least $19!  So, if anyone is interested in either of these, order direct from England!

This small Barbirolli box may have the best 78s transfers I've ever heard - they are amazing.  And you who produced several of these late 1930s album?  Goddard Lieberson, that's who.

Darn.  I don't have a surround sound set-up, so I've only heard the stereo mix.

Interesting.  And speaking of Goddard Lieberson, I found that you had commented (http://www.haineshisway.com/2016/12/droning/) (and not complimentarily) about the SACD of A Chorus Line that was released about five years ago.  Hopefully, both this newest ACL release and Company will be better than that previous release and the SACD ALNM. :-\

I slept well until 4:48 this morning, at which point I turned on the light and checked the time.  I could hear Thatch or Stella - and I suspect it was Thatch - and rustling paper as one of them tried to get into a bag of Wildfire salmon treats.  From then until 6:15 I nodded, but I don;t think I ever went back to sleep.

I don't know what's run away with my mind.  I was writing checks, and I needed another pack, beginning with number 1981.  However, the last check I wrote on the old pack was number 1979, and I have no idea where the hell check number 1980 has gone.  I reopened the envelope with check 1979 to see if I had by chance put 1980 into the envelope was well.  I hadn't, so I don't know where the fat hell it is.

We had a nice time at Marianne and Steve’s last night.  On their patio overlooking a huge pond they set up 3 tables, one for each couple, with some distance in between.  Each table had a sourdough baguette, butter, and some veggies and dip.  We wore masks except when sitting at our individual tables.

Last night’s main course was smoked pork ribs that Sharon had been gifted by a client for whom she’d done some writing.  They arrived frozen and she didn’t have freezer space, so we stored them for a year or so until she learned that Steve had the know-how to do the cooking.  Marianne prepared corn on the cob and salad and I took a chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert.

I think we are taking paper plates when we go to our friend's house for dinner.  It won't be a separate table but it will be outside.  They do have a new dishwasher so maybe we will rethink that.

We went to the park this morning and fed the ducks. Well, mostly flung cracked corn at the ground. I'm sure the ducks and pigeons had quite a party after we left.

Vixmom asked on FB about the derecho in Iowa.  I hadn't thought about checking in about it.  It hit central and eastern Iowa from around Des Moines east. It was 30 minutes of over 100 mph winds  There is tons and tons of damage.  Luckily, it didn't hit my part of the state. We had a storm and we had some strong winds, but not enough to do damage other than a tree limb here or there.  It hit the 4 largest cities in Iowa as well as killing over 1/3 the corn crop in the state.  It happened Monday and there are still a lot of people without power.  It's bad. Feeling very grateful it didn't hit here

Full blown allergy attack. Hopefully the pill will kick in soon, but I'm telling you this was partially brought on by the air conditioning - maybe the filter needs changing.

By all means change the filter.

That sounds like a very sensible way to entertain.

I tried to watch LITTLE WOMEN today. First, I was having problems with the dialogue. Granted, I read the book as a child, but it was just too contemporary. Then it was the behavior of the girls--same problem. For me it just wasn't credible. It was contemporary women dressed in period clothing and doing a 21st century version. Is this what was intended? I read and watch period books and movies to glimpse what life may have been like then. I had to turn it off.

Did anyone else have this reaction?

I did both times I saw it. And I can understand that feeling, even though I enjoyed it. Let's face it, there's no perfect film version of Little Women. But this is far from the worst. I think the worst has to be the modern day one with Lea Thompson as Marmee. The Marches aren't poor. They burn candles everywhere. There's nothing to get emotionally invested in. Not even Beth.

I don't think the Katharine Hepburn version was well written. And the TV version with Susan Dey took its time, but it looks hideous, like it was filmed on a budget of $1.50 -- and that went to William Shatner's salary.

Finished with my viewing, went to Gelson's and got some melon and almonds for a snack - put on the air before I left and thirty minutes later returned and even with the air on it was still eighty-two.  But I can't have it on because I do NOT want another allergy attack this evening.  When I shower, I'll turn it on and that will cool things down a bit.

That's great, Ginny!

I'd read that they've been removing them from all over Portland, Oregon.  However, I also read either yesterday or today that they're going to stop removing any until after the election.  BUT are they going to put back any that they took??  Probably not. :P
