Well, you've read the notes, the notes had drum rolls, and now it is time for you to post until the drumming cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HORTATORY!
-
According to the little temperature gauge in a clock next to my bed, it's 85.0°F right now. :o
Fortunately, I have my skylight open, and I have a fan that makes it feel quite cool in my third floor bedroom. :)
-
Well, here's some good news...Trump rule on transgender health blocked at the 11th hour (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-rule-transgender-health-blocked-11th-hour-n1237044).
-
And on that note (B-flat), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
I'm just sitting here like so much fish, listening to Barbirolli do Wagner - very good and the sound has FINALLY gotten good and should remain that way now.
-
Hi there
-
Our internet was being wonky last night
-
As was our tv connection
-
Same cable provider for both
-
Then I fell asleep
-
Years ago a friend had a much younger sister
-
The sister was 9 when we were in our early twenties
-
My friend’s parents were not in the picture and she had taken over the raising if he sister. Plus she had a child if her own
-
Anyway the child’s name was June, I always called her June Bug
-
I used to take her out on the weekends, bowling, movies
, local amusement parks until they ended up moving and eventually we lost touch
-
Recently I received a FB request...from someone named June Bug
-
It was my June Bug all grown up!
-
I am quite hungry
-
We went shopping for a new back door last night
-
By time w3 got home it was nearly 9
-
So instead of a cooked dinne4 I just made grilled wraps
-
Vixdad had Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, a touch of mayo and thick sliced turkey breast in his
-
I had Muenster cheese, guacamole and thick sliced turkey breast in mine
-
They were good
-
But now I’m th8nking about an omelet
-
With Muenster and guacamole
-
And a generous sprinkle of this

-
And maybe a slice or two of rye toast
-
With cream cheese
-
Or I could just make the previously planned smoothie
-
Banana and a cup of blueberries with a cup of almond milk and a handful of ice
-
I find it hard to eat a lot of fruit
-
But I found I can easily drink one of these smoothies
-
8)What is it supposed to be? 5 servings a day ?
-
I am not conditioned for that kind f fruit consumption
-
We never had fresh fruit in the house growing up
-
Or fresh vegetables either fir that matter
-
My mom was strictly a frozen or canned food kind of person
-
Still is actually
-
Except my dad grew tomatoes every year so those were fresh
-
I hated them
-
I still can’t abide a fresh raw tomato
-
Love them cooked though
-
The other fresh thing would be seafood
-
I would go out on the boat with Dad
-
The Great South Bay was still full of sea life then
-
We’d dig clams, and the occasional scallop
-
We would just jump into the water feel around with our feet until we felt the shell thn dive down and pick up the clam
-
We could fill a gallon bucket in less than an hour back then
-
Or we would fish
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR vixmom, why are you up so early?
-
Flounder, blowfish, porgies, snappers (young bluefish) were all pretty plentiful
-
Then at night we’d go out crabbing
-
Let the boat drift in the dark and shine a flash light on the water.
-
Crabs would swim by and you’d just scoop them up with a net
-
Yesterday, Dolly Parton was on CBS This Morning. I love her. Then Michelle Obama last night at the convention, what a great way to begin and end a day.
-
My family would eat this fresh seafood for dinner just about every night all summer
-
Except me
-
I hate seafood
-
Except for lobster or shrimps or scallops
-
i Would eat macaroni and cheese
-
Or spaghetti
-
Or cold cereal
-
When I got up this morning and walked into the bathroom, I found that Stella had knocked over the wastebin and there was paper everywhere. That's a new chore to take care of this morning.
-
Good morning, all!
Good morning Elmore
-
Beyond my usual daily tasks, I have no other plans.
-
DR vixmom, why are you up so early?
I just woke up around 5:30
-
Realized I hadn’t put the kitchen trash out for this mornings trash pickup
-
Though the trash can was already at the curb with previous few days trash in it
-
So I threw on some jeans and brought it outside
-
The trash that is
-
And then I was pretty much awake
-
So I started checking if the internet was up
-
It was
-
So I came here to catch up
-
And fill pages with insipid drivel
-
I missed the convention but I read Bernie’s and Michelle’s speeches this morning
-
And I read Dolly’s BLM statement/interview/ essay thingy? The other day
-
Think I’m going to go make that omelette
-
Maybe I’ll have the smoothie too
-
Adventures in weight gain
-
But it’s healthy right?
-
All fresh and organic
-
Except maybe the cheese
-
I've cleaned up and bagged for the basement most of Stella;s mess. I need to go in with the dustbuster and catch the tiny fragments.
-
I've also placed a grocery order with Fairway and a kitty order with Amazon.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Probably about the time BK was typing DRUM ROLL, we had drum rolls of our own in a line of thunderstorms moving over us at 3:30 in the morning. The lights even blinked a couple of times, but not enough to disrupt the clocks that would have needed to be reset. The modem lost its signal and had to reboot, but no harm done.
-
The head cold I came down with on Sunday is clearing out nicely. I shall, however, have to replenish my inventory of Robitussin for the inevitable coughing phase that follows. Sometimes I’m lucky and it doesn’t follow, and it would sure be nice if this was one of those times, since I haven’t felt any disturbance at all in that department.
-
Shouldn’t we be on page fifty-three by now?
-
Does anyone here ever read the gossipy classical music blog Slipped Disc? I only discovered it a few years ago. Generally, out of eight or ten news bits posted per day, I’ll find one or two of interest, at least for a quick look. Sometimes it’s worth returning and lurking through the comments posted on certain subjects.
Here’s one from yesterday that’s the kind of thing that immediately grabs my attention: “I Learned My Music at Patelson’s”: https://shrtm.nu/dhkD

I loved Patelsons! Mr & Mrs Patelson were wonderful people, and I applied to work there in 1979 just before I applied at The Drama Book Shop, which hired me immediately.

THE WAYWARD WIND
THE BALLAD OF "THUNDER ROAD"
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vixmom, I had clam strips last night with dinner. Excellent stuff.
-
I think I saw a HORATORY and Vine the other evening.
-
I think Hamlet told Ophelia: Get thee to a HORTATORY.
-
DR VIXMOM did you wear clam diggers when you were digging clams or did whatever you were wearing become clam diggers when you were doing so?
-
Hmmm now my inner web is being spotty.....perhaps it's an epidemic.
I should go on Facebook and talk about my conspiracy theories....I think that Carroll Baker is causing trouble for HHW because of mention of her in the notes yesterday.....certainly sounds possible to me. What else could it possibly be?
-
I miss the excitement of all of the delegates and the idea that "history is being made right NOW" that usually comes with the conventions.....
I probably won't watch much of either of them. I hope the Democrats don't spend too much time on promising this or that which will never happen.
All they have to say, honestly, is: We're not HIM.
-
DR VIXMOM did you wear clam diggers when you were digging clams or did whatever you were wearing become clam diggers when you were doing so?
We would go out on the boat under the Robert Moses bridge that connects Long Island to Fire Island, at low tide it would only be about 4 .5 feet deep and we would anchor the boat and jump into water up to our chins and feel around in the sand with our toes. When we felt the clam wed dive down and scoop it up. So I guess our bathing suits were our version of clam diggers

Tuesday morning greetings! We're having a nice summer rain here today - not the perfect weather for the curbside pick-ups we have to do at the library and Kroger. We'll be OK, but the workers might get a little wet.
-
I am so proud of the j-school kids at UNC. The most brilliant headline on the virus’ effect at their school. And it got almost immediate results.

The rain hasn’t reached us yet. It’s coming.

I wasn't in bed last night until nearly midnight, so I just had a long nap with all three cats, nearly 90 minutes.

New Moon in Leo:
The sun is already in outgoing Leo, and the new moon joins in this exciting fire sign’s positivity today. Opportunities for second chances and new beginnings are everywhere, and self-expression is at its peak.
-
That sounds like fun DR VIXMOM.
-
Second chances?? :)
Woo-hoo! Count me in!
-
TOD:
So many.....
Annette: Pineapple Princess
Connie Francis: Vacation, Lookin' For Love
Lesley Gore: It's My Party, Judy's Turn to Cry, Maybe I Know
Johnny Tillotson: Send Me the Pillow That You Dream On, Without You
Herman's Hermits: Henry VIII, Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter
Bobby Vinton: Roses Are Red
Millie Small: My Boy Lollipop
And on and on......

I spent MOST of the money I made by babysitting on 45 RPM records.....although now and then I would get an album.

That's so cool, Vixmom!
-
But I found I can easily drink one of these smoothies
My sister usually has some kind of a smoothie for breakfast everyday.
-
I still can’t abide a fresh raw tomato
I like raw tomatoes on burgers or sandwiches. :)
-
There are too many 60s songs and too many categories: folk, bubblegum, rock, motown . . .
I loved the Beatles, The Supremes, Leslie Gore, Tom Paxton, The Chad Mitchell Trio, Eric Anderson, Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, Connie Francis, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, and the list goes on.

Great story :)
-
We never had fresh fruit in the house growing up
:o
This shocks me though I recall when we first moved to the East Coast the selection of fresh fruits and vegetables made me cry.
-
Yes, I did really cry once but then I was 2 months pregnant.
-
Or fresh vegetables either fir that matter
Keith's mother cooked canned veggies and he didn't eat them. Once we were married and I introduced him to fresh veggies and Birds Eye frozen he began eating more than I ever did.
-
Except my dad grew tomatoes every year so those were fresh
Fresh fruit.

THE WAYWARD WIND
I have loved this song since the first time I heard Gogi Grant sing it in 1956.
-
Good afternoon.
-
We had a big dust storm that blew through the city last night. No rain here, except for about ten drops.
-
And the other news:
-
My daughter's co-worker (who wears her mask under her chin) has called in sick two days now.

I kept waiting to see the postscript that the newspaper was closed by the school or the staff suspended. Glad to see that wasn’t the case.

Yep. I can just imagine going out and hacking my way through a supermarket. “No really, this is normal, it’s nothing, trust me, I always do this, I’m fine (cough cough)...”

I have been coughing since November. Since all this began if I let a cough slip in public I receive dirty looks. I am able to control it and it isn't bad anymore.

It is currently 108 degrees in the Oaks of Sherman - absolutely ridiculous for this time of year. Hopefully it will stop and sooner than later - air conditioning is on as there is no choice. I also suspect that the filter needs changing and I've asked Grant to pick one up.

I made a pot of Hungarian Mushroom Soup tonight. Mom and I finished all but a cup.

Great news about Petula Clark!
-
Update: The co-worker was at work today. Her car wasn't in the parking lot, which is why we thought she was out today. She was out yesterday.
So I don't know if it was a cold or what.
-
I agree, BK. It's too darn hot.

Congratulations!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Wow, Bruce, I never expected Petula Clark!
-
The weather frogs have really not been very accurate lately. 81 degrees today we were told. It was 94 when I came home at 3:30, the high was probably a bit higher. Is Covid affecting weather forecasting, too??
-
I went to the dentist today for a routine cleaning. All is well there. The hygienist said that their patient load is now about 75% of usual. They're getting a lot of cancellations, though. Maybe people are cancelling more because they're sick--hard to say.
-
The hygienist is from Ecuador. Her mother and nephew came to visit last March, just before Covid hit. Suddenly, the airport at home was closed and they were stuck in the US--for FIVE MONTHS!! They left a couple weeks ago. This was supposed to be a two-week trip. Talk about a change of plans!
-
I hope they enjoyed the extra family time.
-
Story to follow.

I've been working for a solid month to lock Petula in. Thankfully, it paid off. :) And I'm so glad the other guest dropped out - now Larry can watch the show :)
-
In the mornings now we often walk up a hill that crosses the railroad tracks up to the top of the street, near the freeway, and then turn down into a nice residential neighborhood.
-
Air filter is in and it already feels cleaner - the other one was filthy.
-
If you enter the street at the top of the hill there is a sign that names the park that is at the bottom of the road. These days there is also a bright yellow sign that says "parking full".
-
Why a large truck went down that street is beyond us. And kept going all the way over the railroad tracks and partially down the second part of the hill.
-
Not wanting to go up the hill with the truck there we headed for the park. Of course we kept turning around to check on the truck as it slowly backed out, then stopped on the tracks. At that point we just stopped out of fear as trains regularly cross those tracks.
-
Fifteen minutes later, and more than a few scary moments, it finally made it to the top of the hill, backed into the cross street and left.
-
I found the photo of the truck on the internet. We had wondered if the driver of the truck was experienced.
-
But here is the BIG NEWS! The dental office is on a little back street, filled with small shops and offices. Very 1950s. Just a breath of fresh air. And today I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the shop on the corner, which is a larger space, will house an independent BOOK STORE! What?! They open later this month. What a treat that will be! Maybe BK can do a book signing there.
-
If we were "normal" people we would have taken a video and shamed the poor driver ;)
-

Ah.

Bruce I am glad all of your hard work paid off.

Air filter is in and it already feels cleaner - the other one was filthy.
Glad that's fixed. You should feel better soon.
-
Bruce, didn't you work with Petula before?
-
Do you expect Norm Lewis to be doing any more shows?
-
Oh, and BTW, what is happening to Vixmom? Vegetarian meals, VEGGIE BURGERS!! Smoothies! What next??
-
Stay cool, everyone, and stay safe.
TTFN.

Good. They do make a difference. As I mentioned before, mark on your calendar the date it should be changed.

Oh, and BTW, what is happening to Vixmom? Vegetarian meals, VEGGIE BURGERS!! Smoothies! What next??
Breakfast was the avocado omlette and a smoothie with almond milk, a banana and a cup of blueberries
-
lunch was two veggie burgers cooked in a skillet with pasta sauce and munster melted on top
-
never fear dinner was roasted potatoes, peas and steak
-
well I've been up for 20 hours so I'm going to sleep now
-
or else I'm going to stare at the ceiling for two hours
-
I havent decided yet
-
goodnight
-
Vixmom I am now hungry. The omelette and veggie burger sounded good.
-
Finished with my viewing - what a night. Internet out for an hour, rescheduling a Zoom - crazy. But the filter in the air conditioner really did the trick, with the house cooling down much faster now. I still can't let it blow on me too much, but I had to get it under eighty, which it currently is.
-
Good evening.
-
Vixmom, your family ate blowfish?
-
8!!!!
-
Jane, why did East coast fruit and vegetables make you cry?
-
Hi, Tom.
-
They came back to Delaware and they cast their votes.
I looked it up. Because Delaware is Biden's home state they wanted to cast the deciding vote.
I did hear about that from the commentators afterward.
-
I've been working for a solid month to lock Petula in. Thankfully, it paid off. :) And I'm so glad the other guest dropped out - now Larry can watch the show :)
Wow! Who was the other guest? Victoria Clark?

Wow! Who was the other guest? Victoria Clark?
I think that that's the safe bet.
-
Jane, why did East coast fruit and vegetables make you cry?
I went from shopping in Los Angeles with a wonderful, delicious selection to New Jersey where it was difficult to find decent quality and selection. Often they could only be found in packages. Avocados were only from Florida.
-
Summers offered fresh fruit and vegetables at little roadside stands. The corn and apples were delicious.
-
'night
-
Good night, Jane.
-
I came home from work, fed my cat, then watched more of the DNC on MSNBC.
-
Then, I watched the commentators afterward...I find that interesting.
-
Gratuitous Post #222!
