Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hot notes, and now it is time for you to post until the hot cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SQUIB!
-
Those were some mighty fine lookin' burgers, BK!
-
And speaking of burgers...today, my friend Margo and I will be going to Applebee's for some burgers. They're having a sale on their Handcrafted Burgers (https://www.applebees.com/en/menu/handcrafted-burgers). My favorite is the Quesadilla Burger (https://www.applebees.com/en/menu/handcrafted-burgers/quesadilla-burger), but I'd read that they're going to permanently remove this burger (and some other items) from their menu sometime soon. :( So, I'll have it one last time. We're going to get them to go and eat them on Margo's front porch. That'll be fun!
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I don’t like SQUIB for dinner. I’d rather have chicken.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I plan to spend most of today and tomorrow lying in bed. I have plenty of things to watch and read, and I figure that one of my pain meds will render me unconscious for a part of the day.
-
A dear friend sent me the me the new book abpit Pal Joey, and I think that will be my priority.
-
I'm sure there will be errors. I've found one in the author's foreword, where she credits the book of Lady in the Dark to John Latouche. She also acknowledges two British writers, one who thinks he invented musical theatre and another who thinks he's the authority on Rodgers & Hart and neither with any background in practice, only in theory.
-
Much as I am not looking forward to it, I must climb the Small Ladder and change a light bulb.
-
Much as I am not looking forward to it, I must climb the Small Ladder and change a light bulb.
Is that absolutely necessary? Make sure it’s a 10-year bulb.
-
Good morning, all.
-
We're going to be doing some hamburgers on the grill, very likely both today and tomorrow.
-
I think I didn't answer the TOD on hamburgers. When was it? Yesterday? Earlier in the week?
For me, there are "bests of their kind" for many different types of hamburgers, but I will pay tribute to one of my favorites for life: the No. 11 (32) at Hamburger Hamlet. I think the 11 was the quarter-pound version and the 32 was the half-pound which I nearly always had. It not only was one of the best burgers ever, I discovered both it and the Hamburger Hamlet itself on my very first day of my first visit to L.A. in July 1971.
The extraordinary quality of their beef and the perfect proportion of the ingredients were genius. This was a cheeseburger with bacon and chopped onions and Russian dressing, and I always ordered mine medium rare for maximum flavor and juiciness.
EDIT: The menu I’m looking at doesn’t include onions in its description. Did I add those myself from the relish tray?
Back then I didn't really know from Russian dressing, and I thought it was Thousand, misnamed. Well, Thousand would be just as good, and it just happens that I bought both kinds in the Ken's Steak House brand last week. So I'm ready, baby. Bring it on. BK said his chopped onions were less than satisfying, and I do generally use slices for my burgers and put the chopped on hot dogs. There's supposed to be a way to chop them for burgers that's more satisfying texture-wise than simply laying a slice on it, but I need to work on that.
So, getting back to my No. 11 being the best of its kind, what "kind" exactly is that? Back then I thought of it as my first "gourmet" burger. That's probably a meaningless descriptor now, so, maybe something like "Best in a Very Nice Sit-Down but Informal Jernt Specializing in Quality Hamburgers"? Ah yes, that rolls right off the tongue.
-
I am going to write my new novel using SQUIB ink.
-
When I used to fry my hamburgers, I put the chopped onions in the skillet instead of on the finished product.
-
I am baking some pork chops this morning.....with some potatoes...we shall see how that turns out.
-
Yesterday we had a demand from an actress who has appeared in exactly TWO shows - the last in 2016 - that we let her use the theatre for her October 24 wedding.....actually the demand came from her fiancee.....I mean their fiancee.
It was posted on our Facebook page.
Since we have had a similar request before, I gave our standard answer - which is NO.
-
Said fiancee then said that because another wedding had been held there - she didn't understand why they couldn't....after all they had been in shows and loved being in them......even though neither of them have bothered to attend a show since 2016...or donate even $10 to our Annual Fundraiser.
-
I said no. Then said PERSON messaged me, and I suggested that they talk to the person I had been talking to. Person also mentioned the OTHER wedding.
In my answer, I did NOT mention the other wedding. Had I done so, I might have mentioned that the other bride's father had been doing shows with us since 1967, his family including his parents were regular contributors to our fund raiser. The groom's father had been appearing in shows since 1983, and he himself had been appearing in shows since 1998 when he was one of the children in PETER PAN.
The Bride herself had been in shows regularly since 2001.
And the bride's father had been a member of the board of directors since 1999.
But of course - I'm sure they feel that their accomplishments are just as worthy.
It never ends.....
-
Oh and their wedding date is two weeks AFTER the property will have been closed for the season.
-
And that is how I spent my Saturday.
-
When I used to fry my hamburgers, I put the chopped onions in the skillet instead of on the finished product.
That's a good variation. Did you put the patties on the onions or just next to them?
-
That reminds me of another type of burger that was very popular in L.A. -- the one at Small World with the diced onions and bell peppers (?) and seasonings already mixed into the hamburger patty and cooked that way. I think they called it the "Swinger Patty" -- if BK or anyone can confirm that.
-
Well, it's damned near impossible to google that question, since Google takes the word "swinger" and runs with it.
-
If I am making hamburgers from scratch, I put the chopped onions in the mix.....if I am using frozen patties, I put the onions in the pan and the patties on top of them and fry them all together.
I haven't thought of putting some in the broiling pan, but perhaps I shall try that next time.

Leo loves to get fired up about love! This fire sign’s energy is outgoing and expressive, and you won’t feel like hiding any of your emotions during this exciting transit! This is a day to let your feelings be known, because with big risks come big rewards.
Put yourself out there and see what you get in return. Love is dramatic and full of life when Venus is in Leo, and although your ego can get bruised easily during this romantic transit, you bounce back relatively easily from rejection. So, say what’s in your heart, cross your fingers, and hope for the best!
-
Oh I have decided that I will make my YouTube singing debut on Sunday, September 13, at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
It seems to be a popular time and I am sure everyone here at HHW will tune in.
I will be singing mostly songs by Bruce Kimmel with a few by other composers......it's going to be a trip around the world with guest stars and exotic locations.
See you there! It's called Jack Sings and Swings the Kimmel Hits!
-
Two!
-
Up from a nap. I reserve the right to take another later.

Leo? Aren't we in Virgo now?

I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep and lots of e-mails and now a little work to do.
-
Current temperature: 111 degrees. ENOUGH!
-
Yes we are DR ELMORE but the Venus has moved into Leo....
-
Such weird sports things.....yesterday at the Derby a horse named Thousand Words just reared up in the paddock and fell on his back....he was scratched from the race but seems to be okay.
Today at the U.S. Open Tennis tournament, Novak Djokovic got upset and hit a ball behind him that hit a lines person.....he was defaulted and left the tournament....and he was seeded as Number One.....
-
I wonder what will happen in the hockey game between the Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars later tonight?
-
Back from the mail place.
-
It is unbearable out there and naturally the car air conditioner isn't working properly, only blowing warm air no matter how low I set it for.
-
I'm cooling off the house now, which was up to 83. Even though it's less degrees today it actually feels worse outside.
-
Now playing; Dueling Verdi Requiems - Leinsdorf first, Reiner next.

I learned early in life that I loved Thousand Island dressing and very much disliked Russian Dressing. I would get very annoyed when people would try to tell me it was the same thing.

I would say they earned the right to have a wedding there.
-
Oh and their wedding date is two weeks AFTER the property will have been closed for the season.
What amount of money would make it worth the theater to reopen and permit the wedding? I suspect more than they would be willing to pay.
-
And that is how I spent my Saturday.
Sch fun.

Many years ago when I fried or broiled hamburgers I put the onions inside the burgers when mixing them.

I hate when that happens. Vibes you can easily get it fixed.
-
I don't think this is how it's supposed to work: At two-thirty it's 111 degrees. At five o'clock? It's 115 degrees. This is NOT normal, in fact, it's ABnormal in the extreme. Apparently in Woodland Hills, just about ten miles from here, it's 120. No, this is not normal and it needs to be done. Cooling down the house isn't really working well - from eighty-three to eighty-one in two hours.
-
Almost finished with the Leinsdorf performance, then it's on to the Reiner.
-
What is this page two malarkey?
-
Get outta town with this page two malarkey.
-
Enough with this page two malarkey.
-
You'd think it was a holiday weekend or something.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Why I oughta...
-
And then I wrote...
-
STOP WITH THE DAMN GASLIGHTING - WE CANNOT STILL BE ON PAGE TWO!
-
And yet we are - clearly someone is messing with what little of my mind is left.
-
At long last, page three. Ridiculous.
-
Now that I actually weigh enough to donate blood, at least for the last week, I was thinking of doing so. I especially would like the covid anti-body testing that is included.
I went to the Red Cross website and, sadly, confirmed they still won't take my blood due to the high liver count I had in high school as a result of mono.
-
And I'm ever so sure everyone here has read today's two cast stories on my Facebook page, although you wouldn't know it from the number or lack thereof of "likes." I'll tell you how the damn Facebook algorithms work - put a name like Petula Clark in the post, along with a photo, and EVERYONE will see it - we're over 350 likes on that one.
-
Good evening!
-
More vibes for DR elmore!
-
Congrats to DR George on his milestone!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!
87 degrees INside most of the day. It finally slipped down to 86. That's with the AC on high all day, plus a portable fan. Too hot to do ANYthing.
-
I did place an order for the Hawaiian facial masks. They said they were 20% off on Labor Day. Would that be tomorrow only? No discount appeared. Oh, well. They're lovely masks and reasonably priced.
-
Have a good week, everyone.
TTFN.
-
Watching Hope Floats.
-
On TV with commercials. I think they have it scheduled in a four-hour slot.
-
The same half-dozen commercials have been running throughout: Tide, Downey, AT&T, Alexa and Tosh.
-
Oh, and a blank screen for the spots that didn’t sell.
-
Didn’t wake up until 10...made breakfast.
-
Vixdad just wanted a toasted onion bagel and sausages
-
I had a omelette with ham and Muenster cheese
-
Then I fell asleep again
-
Woke up around 1 and decided to go to the new Philly Pretzel place that just opened this week
-
Brought home the pretzels and shared with Vixdad
-
Then fell asleep again and slept until about 8 pm
-
I’m still feeling exhausted
-
Hi, Vixmom.
-
We had a virtual church picnic today.
-
We played games and had a scavenger hunt.
-
I won the grand prize drawing. It’s a picnic basket with blanket, plates and cutlery plus a bottle of wine.
-
I wasn’t really picnicking, though.
-
I was waiting for a pie to bake.
-
Yes, but who's read the cast stories from today?
-
It was a Greek meat pie called Kreatopita. I liked it a lot.
-
Four!
-
I read nothing today.
-
Spent the last two hours working on the Kritzerland show, trying to figure out how long it's going to be - we won't know an exact length until the show airs, obviously, but it's going to come in around an hour and forty minutes I think :)
-
I read nothing today.
Well, perhaps you just should :)
-
I mean, now that we're on page four and all.
-
Let's see what the temperature outside is at nine o'clock: A frosty 99 degrees.
-
Current temperature at 10:00 after an hour of NO POSTS: A chilly 95 degrees.
-
House temperature is 77.
-
And I'm ever so sure everyone here has read today's two cast stories on my Facebook page, although you wouldn't know it from the number or lack thereof of "likes." I'll tell you how the damn Facebook algorithms work - put a name like Petula Clark in the post, along with a photo, and EVERYONE will see it - we're over 350 likes on that one.
I believe I liked them, if not let me know.
-
I did place an order for the Hawaiian facial masks. They said they were 20% off on Labor Day. Would that be tomorrow only? No discount appeared. Oh, well. They're lovely masks and reasonably priced.
Maybe you will find the sale tomorrow.
-
Jane, you did not.
-
I’m still feeling exhausted
With all you do this isn't surprising. I hope you sleep tonight and begin to have more energy tomorrow.
-
I won the grand prize drawing. It’s a picnic basket with blanket, plates and cutlery plus a bottle of wine.
Is that also virtual or do you pick it up for real ;)
-
I was waiting for a pie to bake.
;D
-
Jane, you did not.
Good. I try to catch the posts and like them.
Wait, I thought you said I did. I will go look for them.
-
Bruce I see two identical ones, one hour apart, and liked both of them.
-
My eyes have been burning. I think I will close them.
-
And speaking of burgers...today, my friend Margo and I will be going to Applebee's for some burgers.
I was planning on doing nothing today before leaving for dinner with my friend Margo, but fate (meaning my sister and her daughter) intervened. ::)
;)
-
Hi, Jane.
-
Unless you JUST liked them - the two from today are Beth Malone and Pamela Myers.
-
Yes, now I see both you and George.
-
Unless you JUST liked them - the two from today are Beth Malone and Pamela Myers.
Yes, I JUST liked Beth's and Pamela's. ::)
-
Anyway, my sister and niece wanted me to go to the store for them...to get vanilla vodka, chocolate liqueur, triple sec...and peanut butter.
-
My niece said that she hadn't had a chocolate martini in over six months and was just having a craving, and since they don't really like to go shopping, I said that I'd go.
-
Well, I found the vanilla vodka at Fred Meyer where they've always gone, but I couldn't find the chocolate liqueur or ANY triple sec.
-
I looked all through their alcohol section and just didn't see either.
-
Later, when I was having burgers with Margo and her eldest daughter Alexis, Alexis suggested that the triple sec was probably in a different section of the store and not in the alcohol section.
-
Not being a drinker, I wouldn't have known that.
-
When I brought the vodka and peanut butter (they just needed peanut butter...it wasn't going to be part of any drink), my sister said that her boyfriend could go to The Wine Shop close to where he lives.
-

-
This is actually the brand that they had had before, and had expected me to find at the store...but I didn't.
-
So, after I brought the booze and peanut butter to my sister's, I went to Margo's for dinner.
-
When I got there, we all chatted a bit and caught up with each other, and decided which burgers we all wanted.
-
Alexis placed the order online through her phone and was told that it would take about 20 minutes to prepare.
-
I volunteered to pick up the food and bring it back.
-
Margo provided the diet Pepsi and we all thoroughly enjoyed our burgers and fries.
-
We chatted as we ate, and chatted some more after we all finished, then I came home.
-
I read a few chapters of my book on my Kindle, but had to stop reading because the Kindle was almost out of power!
-
Now that I actually weigh enough to donate blood, at least for the last week, I was thinking of doing so. I especially would like the covid anti-body testing that is included.
I went to the Red Cross website and, sadly, confirmed they still won't take my blood due to the high liver count I had in high school as a result of mono.
Did they realize that you weren’t still in high school?
-
I have it plugged in right now, so it'll eventually be readable again.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Hello, George.
-
Yesterday we had a demand from an actress who has appeared in exactly TWO shows - the last in 2016 - that we let her use the theatre for her October 24 wedding.....actually the demand came from her fiancee.....I mean their fiancee.
It was posted on our Facebook page.
Since we have had a similar request before, I gave our standard answer - which is NO.
:o How rude!
-
Guess I should write some notes. Don't know why I'm tired after two days of ten hours of sleep, and yet...
-
I watched CAROUSEL tonight with Kellie O’Hara and Nathan Gunn. I love both of them! Possibly Nathan a little bit more.
-
Already thinking about tomorrow's 1000 calorie meal. Today was exactly 1000 calories, then tenth day of it and it doesn't feel like I've lost a single pound - but that's how it is at this age - somewhere in week two the pound loss will start happening. I hate the first two weeks of any diet because it's like you do all that work for no reason and no weight loss at all.
-
Oh and their wedding date is two weeks AFTER the property will have been closed for the season.
Well, at least they weren't asking to use the set of a show that would be up and running!
-
Oh I have decided that I will make my YouTube singing debut on Sunday, September 13, at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
It seems to be a popular time and I am sure everyone here at HHW will tune in.

Oh, no! Was it an incandescent bulb or a compact fluorescent bulb that has mercury? :-\
-
One thing that puzzled me: Is it in the original version of the musical that Billy commits suicide? I have always seen it that Billy falls on his knife and dies. That also allows Billy to be laying on his side or his stomach. How Nathan Gunn managed to lie on his back and not breathe all that time.
-
Current temperature: 111 degrees. ENOUGH!
Yikes!!
-
We are going to have a heat wave this week, too. Of course, our high temperature will only be in the mid-nineties.
-

According to the Wikipedia page for the film (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carousel_(film)#:~:text=circa%201953%E2%80%931957.-,Differences%20from%20musical,while%20trying%20to%20escape%20arrest.):
The film followed the stage musical faithfully, except for five major changes:
In the film, Billy dies by accident, rather than by suicide as in the show – when he falls on his own knife while trying to escape arrest. In the original stage production, he deliberately stabs himself while standing on the pile of crates, which does not collapse.

Congrats to DR George on his milestone!
Thanks, Kevin!

That's too bad about not getting the discount, Jeanne. Which one(s) did you order?

That is interesting that the article says in the film the Starkeeper tells Billy that Jigger died. I don’t remember that in the movie.
-
Now I have to watch the movie version again, so I can drool over Gordon MacRae.
-
I won the grand prize drawing. It’s a picnic basket with blanket, plates and cutlery plus a bottle of wine.
Congrats, John!

I know! Fisher Stevens who was in the 1994 revival with Audra (Ann) McDonald is quite scrawny.

I also liked this Mr. Snow.
-
I didn’t know there was a video of Audra’s production.
