Title: TYPING AND TWIDDLING
Post by: bk on September 10, 2020, 12:06:27 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were typed, not twiddled, and now it is time for you to post until the twiddling cows come home.

I can't remember if it was when I went to the All-State Choir in high school, or when I was at Western Washington University, but I remember being in choir and singing excerpts from the Duruflé Requiem.  I'm sure I never sang the whole thing.  I thought it was wonderful!

The other requiem that I know and specifically like is Andrew Lloyd Webber's.

I had many strange dreams last night, and now remember little.  In my last dream I was staying at a luxury hotel with a gorgeous swimming pool, I was with friends from the Miami University Theatre Dept., it was a hot summer, and the pool was closed off.  Everyone was grumbling, why the hell is the maintenance work on the pool being done in the middle of a summer heatwave?

I have recyclables to take to the basement this morning, and I must try to make an appointment for my flu shot.  I say "try" because getting a live person on an HMO phone call is worse than trying to get into Fort Knox.

TOD:

I could shamelessly crib from DR Elmore's sheet (woops, I first typed another word that starts the same way), but I don't know the Dvorak and, shameFULLy, the Weill. That last must be rectified.

KITTY LOVERS SKIP THIS POST.

I was driving to the WalMart today to get some lettuce and Italian Dressing.....and driving up my sister's street, I saw a beautiful tabby cat that had had an encounter with a car.

I would say it happened last night in the dark.  The kitty was dark with very dark/light stripes.

It's poor little head was facing the wrong way for its body.

I slept well last night and am feeling more comfortable this morning. That said, I couldn't keep my eyes open by 9 am and feel like I've been hit by a truck. I put a few days aside for just recovery. If I don't need it, great. There's always plenty to keep me busy.

Yesterday I tried out a new (to me) medical transportation service. I used to take Lyft, but have had several bad experiences with them. My insurance pays for it, but I must schedule though an intermediary, which may have been the problem. In any case, I tried something called Love Transit, which contracts with a taxi company. The drivers were on time, but they were so impatient! Once they arrive, it takes a couple minutes to lock up, then go down the stairs and out to the curb. They expect me to do this instantly. When I scheduled the ride for pick-up I told the scheduler than I'd just had surgery and would be a bit slow. The driver had this in his instructions. Yet he called me and asked if I was coming. Yes, I was waiting for the elevator. Honestly! I'd like to find a car company or driver who understands what it's like to have medical issues. Both Lyft and Uber have time limits on how long they should wait. I don't recall what they are--Lyft gives more time--but they seemed unrealistic to me. And that's without medical issues.

Back from the mail place.  The air outside is unbelievable - smoky, unbreathable, and brown, thanks to all the fires, the largest of which, I think, was started because of a gender reveal party, yet another idiotic and inane "thing" that people do.

No, and it's really difficult to know when they'll arrive, as the estimates are way off. Once (with Lyft) I had to call three times and it took an hour. I was not supposed to be on my feet and there is nowhere to sit down once you're outside. Most architects make no provision for such things. Most of the offices in this building are medical offices and many patients arrange for rides. Ideally, there'd be a driveway where drivers could pull off the busy street and actually help patients into the cars. As it is, it's difficult to locate your ride, especially since Lyft often tells you to expect a red Ford and then your driver arrives in a gold something-else. I happened to mention to a nurse yesterday that they need benches outside (there's plenty of room) and she said others have said the same. She may mention it to the management.

It annoys me that we can send people into space, but can't seem to do a better job with mundane things like providing rides to those who are infirm. There was a small company here several years ago who did just that. I used them several times. But Lyft and Uber drove them out of business. They had to charge more, but they made sure you make it safely to your door.

Thursday evening greetings!  We ventured to the Dayton ‘burbs today to visit the Apple Store.  They had security outside taking temperatures, asking questions, and sorting people according to appointment v. no appointment.  Inside, everyone was masked and distant and one young lady was in charge of wiping surfaces.  Hunter, my Genius, performed some diagnostics on my iPhone and declared it dead.  I left there with a spiffy new phone, which is pretty much what I expected.

I have never actually called a car using my phone.  I know when we are out and Keith orders a taxi, Uber, or Lyft from his phone he can track where they are and how close they are to us.  Granted the ETA often changes due to traffic but he still has an idea.

Today I went to the local Meconi's Subs (https://www.meconissubs.com/) and ordered a Combo (Cosmo...which means it's toasted), with added pepperoni and extra onions.  And I wanted the tomatoes toasted (I actually only do that so they're under everything that's added after toasting and don't stick out...weird, I know ;) ).

HOWEVER, when I got my sandwich, it took me a few bites to notice that 1, the tomatoes weren't toasted which meant that 2, the sandwich wasn't toasted, and 3, they didn't put on any pepperoni!  I paid extra for the pepperoni! >:(

All of that info WAS on my receipt, so whoever assembled it, didn't read it.  I was able to let them know and they did remake my sandwich correctly, and now I still have most of the original (incorrect) sandwich left over for dinner tonight! :D

DR Jane, try drinking some coconut water. It has the electrolytes naturally. You may have plenty of water in your system, but your electrolytes may be out of balance. An MD friend of mine told me about it.

At first I thought coconut water was vile. I drank it only for medicinal purposes. Then one day I got some that said "pressed coconut" on the label. It is actually very good. And I despise coconut.

So send Keith to Circle K to look for some. If you are dehydrated, it should help fairly quickly.

Thanks for tip, however, I WILL NOT be drinking coconut water.  If I am ever desperate then I will reconsider.  I am good.  I normally drink extra water before a blood draw.  I didn't feel as if my electrolytes were off but I could tell I needed more water, which makes sense as I had been drinking the minimal amount the last couple of days.

Interesting that "pressed coconut" is better tasting than fresh.  When I was young coconut was one of the foods I needed to avoid.  Toasted coconut was ok, kind of like toasted almonds are better than raw.

I don't think we have Circle K here, at least not that I am aware of.  I hydrated fairly quickly this morning.  I will remember the pressed coconut.  At the beginning of covid I purchased a bottle of Gatorade, just in case.  Fortunately it is still taking up room in the frig.

Well, if you are feeling off, try the Gatorade.  I drank a lot of water before my last blood draw and didn't feel well afterwards. I figured I had water, but the electrolytes were off. Coconut water helped with that.

DR Laura thanks for the suggestions.  Fortunately I actually feel better than I have the last couple of days.  I am still needing to be gentle to my stomach regarding my food intake but not feeling nauseated when eating or drinking is a great improvement, and a sign that my electrolytes are ok.  I definitely plan to remember that about coconut water and Keith actually likes it.

I heard on the news tonight that Miami (Ohio) Universi has 1040 students who have tested positive for CoVid-19.

On the Westside of the freeway?  That is the one I went to before, and it was not easy to find.  Of course, at the time, all the roads were under construction over there.
