Well, you've read the notes, the notes were cheesy, and now it is time for you to post until the cheesy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INEFFABLE!
-
Goodnight.
-
Topic of the Day: I recorded onto my DVD burner side seven (disc 4, side 1) of the laserdisc release of all the filmed versions of Show Boat. Side seven is the supplemental material, which includes the 15 minute segment that was filmed for the novie, Till the Clouds Roll By (with Lena Horne as Julie), two trailers for the 1951 color version, and a Still Gallery from all the versions.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
I'm thinking that I should wait with recording the Show Boats onto my DVD burner. I should ask Larry if he can hook up my laserdisc player to my Windows XP computer. That computer has the program I use to record programs to make Blu-rays. Even though these laserdiscs wouldn't make good Blu-rays, they could make good DVDs...especially because the program can make menus and chapter breaks anywhere I want them. My DVD burner can pretty much only make random chapter breaks ever 5-6 minutes.
-
I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did not want to get out of bed this morning, so I turned off the alarm and went back to bed. Thatch joined me and we dozed for ten minutes when Stella declared she wanted breakfast.
-
The cats are fed, I've checked my emails, and, voila!, here I am.
-
DR Jeanne, it was nice to find you here yesterday. How are you feeling? I used an ambulance service to get me home from the hospital, and it was the best $60 I've spent in some time. I need to check my credit card receipts to see the name of the company.
-
This is 9/11. I was in London in 2001 when the World Trade Center was destroyed, and it was quite a frightening time for us New Yorkers who were recording there and uncertain when/if we would ever get home. I will listen to part of the memorial this morning while I tidy the apartment.
-
DR TCB, I saw the news about the Miami U students. All I can say is, there are a lot of idiot Trump supporters in Ohio. My cousin tells me she sees plenty of Trump slogans and yard signs and none for Biden-Harris.
-
The cats had a party after I went to bed last night. I have a lot of tidying this morning. I also need to drag out the Big Ladder. Oy!
-
Good morning, all.

As a cat owner, DR Elmore should know to keep the liquor cabinet locked.

Luckily, I don't drink much and they're just babies, but I hate it when the neighbors call the police.

OMG. I may or may not have seen Genghis Khan back in the day, but I must see it now.
The only time I would have gone then would have been to a drive-in with the family, and I’m thinking we did, in fact, do that. But no matter. Bring it on!
-
Last night I suffered one of the most annoying nights of insomnia ever.
I’d had a two-hour phone conversation with my MD about who’s playing what in Assassins, followed by BK’s test run for this weekend’s show, then it was time to feed the cat. Then I puttered for a bit and called it a night. But I was wide awake. I put the clock radio, tuned to a decent late night FM classical station, on 60-minute timer, which usually does the trick. Not so this time. I had to reset it TWICE. Even after I got to sleep, I was waking up every hour feeling like I was still trying to get to sleep. Oy!
I will surely make up for this with a nap sometime today.
-
I just got some good news from the NY Dept. of Labor:
As you may be aware, New York State has been approved for the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program, which will provide $300 in additional weekly unemployment benefits to New Yorkers. Payments will begin next week.
Under federal guidelines, benefits are only available to individuals who are unemployed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on information you have previously provided to the DOL, you are pre-qualified for the LWA program. You do not need to take any additional action to receive these funds.
Have you heard anything from Connecticut, DR ChasSmith?
-
These payments only cover August, and no more at the moment.
-
I have not heard anything yet. Supposedly, CT is doing it, but there's been a dearth of any recent updates.
-
Rumor has it that the original title of that Broadway show was The INEFFABLE MOLLY BROWN.
-
Congrats to MR BK on his millstone.
-
The two ramrods behind the SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK fiasco are Caroline & Shelly.
I am horrified to report.....as I previously did.....that Miss Caroline's mother passed away two weeks ago....and last night Miss Shelly's mother passed away.
No words.......
-
Good morning, all.
-
OMG. I may or may not have seen Genghis Khan back in the day, but I must see it now.
I would love to see it, too.
-
The original Stepfather was a fun indy horror flick and the first time I remember seeing Terry O’Quinn, whose performance is still a class creep-out.
The remake? I didn’t bother.

TOD:

Let’s move on ...

Two!
-
Ho, KevinH!
-
Good morning!
-
Enjoyed your show last night, BK!
-
Hi, John G.!
-
Listening to our CEO. There’s no set plan on going back to the office after Jan. 1, but he did say that a much broader, permanent work from home mix will be put in place. (Yay!)
There might also be a healthy mix of wfh and a couple of days at the office.
-
TOD:
CD: Barbra Streisand: Duets
DVD: Buffaloed--a RedBox rental. It's a little film that takes place in Buffalo, of course. I was interested since Buffalo is my hometown. I found out that a lot of it was filmed in Toronto (100 miles away).
-
Ho, KevinH!
I was not calling you a ho. Seriously. I must be using my Vixmom schoul of Tipping Skillz today.

Ginny, these are your neighbors.
Indeed they are, DR John G, and Richard's 3x alma mater and my employer for 2/3 of my career. And a big reason our county is at risk level 3. Yet they're still determined that in-person classes will resume a week from Monday.

I've just been informed that the Audio Edition of my 2nd memoir, LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD, is now available for download via Amazon, audible.com and iTunes.
Hopper Stone does a marvelous read of my book, and I do hope you will enjoy listening to it.

DR Jeanne, I wondered if you or anyone else has seen this PBS Frankie Drake Mysteries? I keep running across it on Amazon suggestions and know nothing about it.

Pasta papa is on its way. I went with that because I know the calorie count exactly and its well under 1000.

I have had it confirmed our friends have a home to return to, once they are permitted back. She said today they might be allowed to go pick up some clothes. I have no idea what they have been wearing the last several days since they left with only the clothes on their backs.
-
You have probably seen photos in the news of Talent. It really is a miracle their neighborhood survived. She described Talent and Phoenix, the next town over, as looking like a war torn city and 40 people are missing.
They are moving to their 3rd location since evacuating to have a nice yard for their dog. I wish we still had our home in Ashland for them. It would have been perfect as the door to the dog deck was off of the guest bathroom.
-
This morning I wore my N95 mask to walk through the smokey haze.

Our air quality is slowly improving. We have downgraded from hazardous to very unhealthy.

Le Publicite!

Hello, everyone.
-
Thanks for the continued vibes. I am showing good improvement, but fatigue quickly. I thought I'd take care of a few little things and that's all it took!
-
I am waiting for a food delivery, which is running quite late.
-
Re FRANKIE DRAKE, it sounded like it was right up my alley--a mystery with strong female characters. So why didn't I like it? I just found it weak and didn't care for Frankie. If you watch it, Larry, please provide some feedback.
-
Jane, I'm glad your friends still have a home. A horrible experience just the same. It's been quite a year.
-
I fatigue quickly and I didn't have surgery.
-
It's supposedly eighty-eight degrees out - house is 72 and actually feels a little chilly.
-
Good news for Larry and maybe Chas!
-
It now looks like my food order sat for 25 minutes before the driver picked it up. This is why I usually pick it up myself. Sigh.

Yes, it 9/11 day. Always a downer. I hate how the news media always shows the footage of the towers coming down. It stirs up so much grief and sadness every time I see it. Can we not put that image behind us and try to heal?
Vibes to all for comfort and healing.

Thanks for the continued vibes. I am showing good improvement, but fatigue quickly. I thought I'd take care of a few little things and that's all it took!
DR Jeanne, I'm still listless and tire easily. After the kitty cleanup is over, all I want to do is lie down, watch mindless TV so I can nap if I choose, and not move for several hours.
-
At this site - you can put in an address in NYC or the boroughs, I think, and see what they looked like in 1940.
DR VIXMOM maybe you can see your neighborhood all those years ago.

When we moved to Michigan the second time a new business opened delivering meals from various restaurants. You could order from more than one restaurant if you wanted. They delivered the hot food hot and the cold was cold enough. They made a big fuss about delivering into your kitchen or dining room. I could order meals for company and transfer it into nice containers. The food was always delicious and attractive.

A FB friend has been posting her concerns about her daughter who is at the school. This is her post from today.
"This house party is at Miami University in Ohio where my daughter is at for her senior year. Right now she is able to take her classes on line but on Sept 21 two of her classes are called hybrid classes which require some in class visits. My daughter said there are over 1,000 students like these boys are infected. She said the parties are going on everywhere. She said the bars and restaurants are full. The sorority and fraternity houses are full. One of her roommates was a waitress but she quit. So so glad. She said her roommates have been very careful but they are worried two. If they cancel the in class visits then my daughter can fly home while she can. She has taken two COVID tests and has NOT tested positive."

Pasta papa was, as always, excellent and filling.

Been on the Tube of You, listening to elmore's Requiem suggestions. So far, I've sampled the Rutter, which I knew I'd like because his harmonic language is akin to mine own, the Weill, which is very much in his Threepenny musical language, the Dvorak, which I enjoyed, at least the bits I heard, the War Requiem, which I'm wondering if I own, and finally Brahms.
Of what I've heard, the Rutter appeals most, but I really liked what I heard of the Brahms a lot, via Klemperer conducting. For the Britten I listened to Britten conducting, and for the Dvorak there are two recommended recordings, one by Ancerl on DG and one by Istvan Kertesz, whose recordings I love and his is the one I partially listened to.
-
Kertesz had some good stuff going on. I'm thinking there were a couple of interesting Mahler recordings.
-
The cats and I are going to settle in and watch more Jeeves and Wooster. Last night we watched the episode from Season Two titled "Kidnapped," which several American A&E stations would not show in the US. It was completely politically incorrect and outrageously funny, ending with every male in the cast except for Jeeves in blackface; a minstrel show and banjos banging out "Lady of Spain" figure in the plot. I loved every un-PC moment of it it.
It was one of the funniest things I've ever watched.

I'm glad that you are enjoying these, BK. I'm a huge Dvorak fan, and you might like his horror cantata, "The Spectre's Bride," which I believe he composed for a choral festival in Leeds. I'm also very fond of Dvorak's Mass in D. I also think you might like Sir Arthur Sullivan's cantata, "The Golden Legend," which is quite wonderful and not at all like the Gilbert & Sullivan operas.
-
I have the Klemperer recording of the Brahms. I love Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She's the soprano by which I compare all others.

And now, I'm off to my parents'.
Be back later.

As if life isn't depressing enough these days, it is truly ugly and depressing outside ;D
I am also very grateful not to be in the center of the fires causing the ugly depressing haze.

J.B. has a new talent. He is Neely in Valley of the Dolls.
I took a selfie video of him on my shoulder banging his pill bottle around. It’s hilarious.

Gratuitous post No. 100.

This was four days of exhausting work. This afternoon, a one-hour meeting took 2.5 hours and left key players depressed. Wondering if I will have to work this weekend.

Finished with my viewing and listening to my Ormandy original jackets collection - haven't heard it in a while - what a band, what sound, and WHAT a conductor
-
Where in tarnation did everyone get to?
-
Certainly they didn't get to haineshisway.com
-
Finished the Ormandy Tchaikovsky fifth - stunning sound. Now playing, Bartok, also in stunning sound.

It's ten o'clock, do you know where your hainsies are? I don't.
-
I had me a millstone earlier.
-
Had some peanuts to get me up to 1000 calories.

-
I gotta tell you.

Why I oughta...
-
We're getting all excited for Sunday AND I got word there may be another surprise visitor during the show.
-
Love last-minute surprises.
-
I must say, Mr. Bartok was very influential on film composers - listen to the concerto for orchestra and you'll hear a bit of Elmer and Jerry.
-
Page five has arrived.
-
And none too soon.
-
And soon too none.

Ho, KevinH!

Wonderful! Congratulations!!

Have I mentioned I'm listening to Ormandy doing Bartok and doing him brilliantly. I like Dorati and his Mercury Living Presence Bartok stuff, but the Columbia sound, I hate to tell all those self-appointed audiophiles, is a thousand times better than Living Presence. It's the Living End.

The peanuts are making me nauseous. Or perhaps I'm making the peanuts nauseous.

Excellent!!
-
At this site - you can put in an address in NYC or the boroughs, I think, and see what they looked like in 1940.
DR VIXMOM maybe you can see your neighborhood all those years ago.

I’m further east than the boroughs, but I already know what this neighborhood looked like in the 1940s....trees.
This whole development was nothing but woods until the early 1950’s

Here you go, Jane.

Recovery vibes for Jeanne

Peaceful sleeping vibes for Chas
-
Sleeping has become my hobby it seems
-
It’s staying awake that’s difficult
-
I was home by 5:07
-
Sat down in the recliner to talk with vixdad
-
He was on the phone so I closed my eyes for a second
-
I opened them at 8:27
-
Dinner was late
-
Dinner was homemade tacos, quesadillas and Mexican rice
-
Sliced tomatoes and onions on Vixdad’s rice
-
Guacamole and sour cream on mine
-
Can’t keep my eyes open

Good night

Sleep well.

Finishing up the Bartok album, moving on to Shostakovich's first symphony and his cello concerto, courtesy of Mr. Ormandy.
-
Where's George? Off playing Phase 22 or something?
-
Where's friendly TCB?
-
Where have all the flowers gone?
-
But no one can say we didn't get to page six.
-
Let them try.
-
If they try we shall make hash of them - corned beef to be specific, hash-wise. Certainly not the other kind of hash because we don't allow no drug talk on this here site.
-
I wonder if Bartok was insane.
-
Has anyone heard his opera Bluebeard's Castle? Any good? There's an Ormandy version of that.
-
Guess I'll write some notes in about fifteen minutes.
-
Guess I'll hang my tears out to dry.
-
Every time I forget and take a deep breath I cough. Hmm, might it be the result of our crappy air quality ;D
-
Here you go, Jane.

Oh, and I'm home. :)
-
Hi, Jane.
-
We're getting all excited for Sunday AND I got word there may be another surprise visitor during the show.
Cool! :D I wonder who!
-
Where's George? Off playing Phase 22 or something?
We played two games and I won the first! ;D
-
I almost won the second game, but it was not to be. :'(
-
There will be a next time. ;)
-
Where's friendly TCB?
Friendly TCB? Who the Hell is that?
-
Sorry. I am just being weird.
-
Hi, Jane.
Hi George.
-
I was just watching Jimmy Fallon. He was trying to do this joke about Dairy Queen’s Blizzard candles, which sold out in an hour. He put one on his desk and lights it. Then he picks it up and takes a huge bite out of it. LOL! They told him it was made out of a cupcake, but it was actually a real candle.

I was going to go cat browsing tomorrow, but I don’t think I can stand to be out in all that smoke.

I drove up to Freddie’s just to get some coffee creamer, and I was already getting a headache by the time I got home.
