Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a lethargic lump of nothing much, and now it is time for you to post until the lethargic cows come home.

And now, I need to go to sleep.  I have no plans today (after I wake up) except to maybe do some laundry and some work from work.  I brought my work laptop home so that I can make up a little time because I left early to play cards with my mom and her friends.  I only have to pay the credit card that I use and fill out my time sheet, and download bibliographic records from OCLC (Ginny probably knows what that is ;) ).

Have a good day, all!

Yesterday the cats got a cat cave, so they spent some time checking it out.  Annabelle and Stella monopolized it for the first hour.  I spent the night watching CNN, but I saw Thatch trying several times to decide if he should climb in or not.

Well - some people keep shooting themselves in the foot.  Theatre Drama story to follow......

Our 60th season is next year (fingers crossed) - we kept ONE of the shows from this canceled season 'You Can't Take It With You' because it is popular with our audiences and a great opportunity for a LARGE cast and lots of folks to participate.

We jettisoned the other three.

The one Off-Board Director who was to direct the August musical about a princess and a pea....was told.....although we weren't going to mention it until the official announcement later this month.

He exploded and said some very hurtful things to other folks (they were all in that DREAM at the Park).  He accused us of purposely not doing HIS show because he had it all planned, etc.  Of course he had also precast the lead.  All summer both of them on their Facebook pages lamented the fact that they weren't going to get to provide audiences with the best entertainment that had ever been presented at said theater EVER!!!

Of course said precast "actress" was the one who had quit the "Flowers" play last year and is married to one of the goofs that caused all of that trouble last year.

He had at first decided he was coming to the annual meeting and nominated himself to be a member of the board so he could "clean this place up."  I would have handed him a broom.

He has now stated that he wants to attend our regular board meeting - following the annual meeting - and present his case for us including "his" musical on the program......

I like it better when the drama is onstage....ALL onstage.

The End.

TOD

I remember, all too well...

Coca-Cola. The Real Thing. My favorite as a kid, and my favorite now. My parents never bought it frequently enough to satisfy me, which probably contributed to my indulgences as an adult. But I don’t indulge in the regular drink so much as Coke Zero which is the only diet version to capture the taste of the original formula. For the likes of moi, that has been a godsend, following several years of drinking Diet Coke. When I REALLY want to indulge, I get the bottles (yes, glass bottles) from Mexico with the true original formula using sugar cane and not high fructose corn syrup. Anyway, however you slice it, Coke is my #1.

Vernors Ginger Ale was a VERY special treat as a kid, and I have no idea why we had it so infrequently. Following childhood, I have a few very nice associations with it in Cleveland and in Michigan during college years. It never stopped being a Midwestern thing, and I pick some up on every drive into Ohio or West Virginia. No glass bottles today, I don’t think, but I know that as of a few years ago they were offering it in plastic bottles that you could order.

Pepsi (original, in bottles) is also fine, but it really has to be the original.

When we’d first moved to Florida in 1960 we were getting RC Cola, which I probably wasn’t crazy about then but I’d love to try it now.

A&W Root Beer — at their drive-ins, in the frosty glass mugs. (We had other root beers at home, which was never the same.) Also, the Birch Beer served at the Royal Castle chain in Florida, also in the glass mugs.

We also usually had 7-Up and, later, other such things as Sprite, but I never thrilled to the lemon and lime stuff like I did the colas.

I also never gravitated toward the Dr. Brown type of sodas asa rule, but that Diet Cherry these days is wonderful. I just never think to get that, but I will now.

I should not drink soda because of my diabetes, but every once in a while, maybe two or three times a year ...

When I was a kid, Canada Dry offered Wink,  grapefruit soda that was a perfect blend of sweetness and tartness. Loved it. After they discontinued it, I tried the others, such as diet Fresca and Squirt, but they were too sweet or chemical tasting. Then, at a neighbor Taco truck, I found Mexican Fresca made with sugar. It was like finding an old friend. I can’t visit that place for a sit-down meal without getting one. So, I do takeout more nowadays.

I remember Wink.  I liked it, too.

At home in Ohio, our fridge was always stocked with Coca Cola and Pepsi.  My mother preferred Pepsi, but our family doctor recommended Coke to settle our stomachs.
In my Paternal grandmother's Appalachian territory, the cola that was sold was R.C., and I always felt it was an unreasonable facsimile of Coke.
Besides A&W Root Beer, we also drank Barq's Root Beer and Cream Soda.

We had a root beer called Dad’s or My Dad’s (too lazy to look it up).

Yes, the RC was no doubt inferior, as were all of the imitations. Remember HoJo Cola? But RC developed a real following which is why I’m curious to taste it again. Not sure, but I think it’s still available. Somewhere.

Remembered another high school era favorite:  Mountain Dew!

At college we had something close; they were called "womb" chairs. A perfect sphere on a pedestal which rotated, with a partial cut-out to climb into. They were popular and almost always occupied. They were positioned along a window bank on the second floor of the library to look out over the quad.

Nothing on the docket for us today. Call me a coward, but I am extremely reticent (yes, reticent) to leave the house for anything other than urgent errands, like buying food. I read DR John G.'s account of ushering, and know that I couldn't do anything like that.

Of course, we're both also in higher-risk categories: overweight, diabetes, older. So there's that.

Today's epic: Ben-Hur. I figure I could get some cleaning done while the movie plays. Plus, I haven't seen it since I read the book about 20 years ago. In fact, the last time I saw it was at some restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala, where it was showing on Easter eve. Dubbed in Spanish.

I thought I was all set to make my whiskey nut cake for the holidays. Then I found the recipe. So much work, but the effort is well worth it.

The big detail I had forgotten is that it bakes for 3 hours at 250 degrees. But then, I can wrap it in cheesecloth and marinate it in bourbon for several months before cutting into it. Delicious.

Ale-8-One is a ginger ale made in Kentucky that has become a bit of a cult drink in the past few years. It's now used in salsa and barbecue sauce, I think, among other things. I got Mom one when her stomach wasn't too good and stole a taste. Good. Too sweet and not gingery enough, but it worked on her stomach.

It has a pound of chopped nuts and 3 pounds of dried fruit in it. I'm using dried strawberries, cherries, apricots and pears. I may add cranberries, if I pick them up.

Our second home in Michigan was across the street and down a couple of homes from a beautiful home once owned by a Vernor family member.  I do not like Vernor's at all.  Once in awhile I will have Canada Dry.

Delicious.

Yum.

Why I drink Canada Dry or 7-Up.  Just a sip or two at a time.

Sounds fantastic!!

It has a pound of chopped nuts and 3 pounds of dried fruit in it. I'm using dried strawberries, cherries, apricots and pears. I may add cranberries, if I pick them up.

It sounds delicious though I might change my mind once you say what nuts you are using.

The drive by shower was most excellent!

We drove right there.....several cars were parked and folks were walking about.....so we got out.

It was so nice to see my baby brother and his wife and nephew Grant and his wife Lynsie.....they are all so happy.  Lynsie's mom and sister did the decorations.....a very nice gift table....and BIG sign that said Grayson Wayne - the baby's name....

Balloons and streamers.....not TOO much....it was just right.

I asked Grant where he got the name and he pointed to his shirt that had a lot of Batman logos on it.....and I said oh.....Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne.....and he said YES.

I guess I am the only one besides his brother Garrett who had made the connection....LOL

Up from a nap. Started a short documentary on Bob Wills called Fiddlin' Man. The music clips are excellent, and the talking heads are endearing. There are quite a few guys who played with the Texas Playboys over the years. They're not refined or overpolished, like too many folks in documentaries today.

Our apartment building has a shelf in the shared garage where you can discard stuff that others may want.  I was leaving some stuff there the other night and found an unopened bottle of "diet" apple juice. I brought it up, wiped it down, and stuck it in the refrigerator.  Well, I just tried a glass. What vile stuff!

I was trying to also post a photo of a painting I have of the same facade, but with patrons arriving on a snowy winter's night via horse-drawn carriage.

But I can't get it small enough for HHW to accept, even using Jrand70's photo resizer.

The End.
