Well, you've read the notes, the notes had close encounters, and now it is time for you to post until the close encountered cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ENDONYM!
-
I am voting to put an ENDONYM.
-
I have never seen either Close Encounters or ET. I should remedy that.
-
Not a lot else to report at the moment.
-
Hope your nose recovers, DR TCB!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR Laura, I suspect both you and I suffer from nasal polyps. I need to reschedule that surgery from a year ago.
-
DR John G, yes, I worked on the Encores! Paint Your Wagon. I restored the long missing 2nd bass/tuba part from the full scores. That was a delightful production, and luckily some of the worst added lines to the edited libretto were cut (something anachronistic about the wordplay on miners and minors was completely wrong). Keith Carradine is such a kind man, and the cast was so good.
-
I had hoped to see Joshie today, but the news says we are in for another rainy day. I just sent him an email asking to postpone a day.
-
DR TCB, Stella is a biter. I think it's a sign of affection, but it's also a sign that she plays rough. I read that this is often a case when cats are separated too early from mother and siblngs.

Last night I caught a reporter interviewing Trump supporters at the Florida rally. I would swear that science has discovered algae with higher intelligence than these idiots. I could not believe the sheer utter stupidity and misinformation they spouted.
-
Good morning, all.

Not a great night of sleep.

I‘d guess I felt that way when seeing those Spielberg films, even if it wasn’t so much a conscious thought. I mainly remember being blown away those first few times, in a way that probably hadn’t happened before. This goes for seeing Jaws at the Pix, Close Encounters and Poltergeist (however much he did or didn’t actually direct it) at the Paramount, and E.T. at the Dome, followed by the Picwood.

I made it through Act One. Will watch the rest later. The male chorus has some great voices. Someone named Nathaniel Hackman did a great version of They Call the Wind Maria.

I just got an email from Joshie, and all is good. I will look over my orchestra score, cross T's and dot I's, and then declare it finished. I want to finish going through a reader's thoughts on my A&T book. I'm still trying to get this search and correct spacing after a period to work.
-
TOD
The first two that come to mind are Merchant Ivory’s A Room With a View and John Waters’ original Hairspray.
-
The first sounds of that orchestra bringing the score of Paint Your Wagon to life is something I can never forget.

British conductor John Wilson asked me about Hackman when he was casting Curly for his Proms concert of Oklahoma! and I was happy to recommend him. He's a good guy. Here's the Proms broadcast. Hus Laurie is my beloved Scarlet Strallen, who played the lead in The New Yorkers and whom DR Ginny, Richard, and I saw in A Gentleman's Guide to Murder.

BK is so right about the Harlem and Cuba sequences in Topaz. I remembered those two almost exclusively after first seeing it, and so looked forward to them on my return.
Same with Torn Curtain and its tense set pieces — the chalkboard conversation, farmhouse murder, and the bus ride. And yet so much else in the film is such watered down Hitch.

Surgery vibes for DR ELMORE & DR singdaw.
Great news from DR JANE......

Tuesday morning greetings! It's a bee-yoo-tee-ful fall day here in SW Ohio. We had a doozy of a thunderstorm last night and it cleared all that nasty humidity outta here.

Well, I'm excited. Today the trailer was released for the film of James Bowen's book A Gift From Bob, in which Bob the Streetcat who was run down by a car in June, plays himself. I really look forward to this.

From DR George:
Jane, the "illustrated" edition is a Project Guttenberg edition, and it turns out that there are no actual illustrations in the downloaded epub book that I got
Thanks.
My Vancouver library doesn't have it at all.
My Ashland library has 3 eBooks with 3 different covers. Doing a search showed an option for the illustrated version. When I clicked on it they didn't have it.

Last night I typed available and today I see instead I wrote avait. ::)
-
From George:
I clicked the "Recommend to library" link and saw that between e-book and audio, OverDrive has 37, count 'em, THIRTY-SEVEN different editions of this one title that libraries can purchase!
I expect this is your professional link. I can recommend books with the Ashland library but not the Vancouver one. I have learned not to bother if the books isn't from an author the library usually purchases. I have books that have been sitting in the recommended section for years. Popular authors they carry can get me a good spot in the queue once the book is published.

Picked up packages, ordered food, Grant came by with his new book, and food is here and I'll now eat it - CPK Roasted Garlic Chicken pizza.

In honor of Marie Osmond's birthday, I posted in Forgotten Musicals on FB one of my favorite subtle sketches from BK on the Donny and Marie Show from 1977.
From DONNY AND MARIE - For those who think Bruce Kimmel wasn't born until the internet in the.1990s, there's a "forgotten musical" here on the Donny and Marie show from the late 1970s

In the sketch, Bruce's uncle owns a theater so they plan to convert the theater into a barn so they can put on a show.

With all the wholesomeness, there were really smart people manipulating us in the home audience back then. :)

Nobody’s topped it yet. Could probably say the same with Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, byt it was already a classic by the time I saw it.

Only five songs left to choose and I'm hoping I figure out at least three by the end of the day.

That was a fun clip.....thanks DR FREDDIE.
How was Mr Paul Lynde to work with MR BK?

Jane, you should also sign up to get an online card from Pierce County Library (https://www.piercecountylibrary.org/). I did it last year and they have higher limits for holds and check-outs than Timberland does, and it's another source for different OverDrive titles. :)

Good Afternoon. I'm glad to be home. We started our new schedule at work today. Hopefully it will be the last schedule change unless we go back to 100% Distance Learning.
I remember seeing "Close Encounters" as a kid, It had to have been in a theatre, but I don't remember. I remember seeing "Star Wars" in a drive-in the summer it came out, then again in a theatre a few more times. Who knew at the time what a franchise that would become years later.

I find it helpful to hear about others' ailments, their treatment plans, and eventual outcomes. It makes it easier, less frightening, should I have to go through it myself or similar issues. A sort of "Well, so-and-so went through it and they're fine."
Not that we have any so-and-sos here at HHW.

I had a productive day, which was much needed. I then treated myself to a meal (actually, two meals) from the excellent vegan eatery.

The suitcase in the vacation skit reminds me of the time my sister visited us in Ashland. IMHO she shopped too much for clothes to begin with. Well, finding herself in a state without sales tax she had a grand time. I walked into the guest room while she was packing to go home. To my horror her suitcase looked a lot like the one in the show ;D
I called Keith to rescue her.

We have now lost power three times in under two hours, always for five or ten seconds. I am so tired of this ineptitude.

Not good for the computer, surely.

Keith gets his packing skills from his father. The first time I flew to LA for a visit after moving away Craig was eight months old so there was a lot to pack. I stayed with his parents who had a crib. Keith's father walked in while I was packing for my return trip and noticed I was having a bit of difficulty and took over. He looked at me and asked if Keith had packed my suitcase for me :-[
The was the last time I had Keith pack for me unless he was traveling with me ;D

They're all postage paid, so no one has to buy a stamp if they choose to put them in the mail instead of putting them in a drop box.

I have the Blu-ray set that has all three versions of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, so you can choose which version you want to see. I actually wasn't able to find it on Amazon, so I'll have to make sure that that's what I really have. :-\
But I know I have some multi-version release of the movie. :)

Carol had her surgery yesterday. She woke up to discover that they did not give her a new hip, but they put in another spacer with antibiotics. That infection just refuses to go away. In six weeks or so, maybe she'll get the hip.
Yikes! :o
~~~Continued Hip Vibes for Carol!!~~~
And now, I'm off. I got a couple of items that my mom asked me to buy for her, so I'll call to make sure that she's home and wants them tonight, otherwise I can bring them tomorrow or wait until Friday.
But before I go...
-
six!!!!!!
-
And NOW, I'm off!
And ten minutes later, power went out for the fourth time in less than two hours. At that point, I gave up. It came back in within twenty seconds and I refused to restart the computer or reset the clocks and instead watched a movie. After two hours, THEN I started up the computer and had to retrieve all my Word docs for the fourth damn time, and I reset the clocks.
Just finished The Double Life of Veronique and one of the many extras. What an amazing movie. it brought back a feeling of the foreign films that I loved so much in the 1970s. That refusal to answer questions, that uninhibited use of nudity, that emphasis on character through performances so layered and unaffected.
It's no wonder that the producer, everyone's favorite, Harvey Weinstein, made the director shoot another ending for American audiences, oen all touchy-feely and unnecessary.
-
I think I'm going to watch the same director Krzysztof Kieslowski's trilogy, Blue, White and Red, on Saturday as my epic this week.
-
And now to bed.
-
good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
I currently reek of garlic - horrifying.
-
But the roasted garlic chicken pizza was taboo and just under 1000 calories. I wish I had some ice cream here for a little 200-calorie treat, but alas...
I hate when that happens and have also waited to change clocks. I thought you hsd z surge protector for your computer.
-
I do have a surge protector but it still shuts off.
-
Then what you need is a bsckup battery?
Well, I found my Blu-ray and was able to find it on Amazon. What I have is the Two-Disc 30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VECACG/). They used seamless branching (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seamless_branching) to be able to put all three movies on one Blu-ray disc. The second disc is all the bonus material.
Looking at that bk clip from Donny & Marie (thanks, DR Freddie!), I am thinking: I wish I were as thin as bk was then!
I wish I were as thin as Bruce and Cindy together.
Voting started here today. I drove by the library and the line stretched around half of the building. In the sun. Will have to take water and sunscreen tomorrow.
I dropped off my ballot yesterday!
Did you fill it out first?
-
Great medical news from DR vixmom.
-
Continued medical vibes to singdaw.
-
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS was certainly one of those masterpieces. After I saw it for the first time, I dragged and badgered everyone I know to go see the movie.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Then I saw the extended version and I was so disappointed. I am so glad that the original version is still available on the DVD and on streaming.
Fortunately, I remembered to fill out the whole ballot. ;D
We have now lost power three times in under two hours, always for five or ten seconds. I am so tired of this ineptitude.
The lights here at my work have been blinking off and on, but they power hasn't gone out...yet.
But we are having 50 mph wind gusts.
I only watched the first couple of seasons, then dropped it. I liked it when I did watch it, though.
Seeing it on the big screen was breathtaking!
-
Hi, George.
-
I don't remember seeing it in the theater, but I'm sure that I must have. I do remember buying the soundtrack album and not realizing that it included a 7" single of the disco version of the theme song until I opened it and saw it. I'm pretty sure that I still have that 7" record.
