Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up someone's something, and now it is time for you to post until the proverbial cows come home.

I was just about to reply to your post about it sounding like my co-workers might be travelling.  I don't think anyone is travelling.  I'm pretty sure that most people are just taking time off.  One person has two young kids at home, so I know that she just wants to have a long weekend.

Listening to Puccini's Le Villi.  Funny - sounds positively old-fashioned compared to Schreker's, but lovely - not my favorite Puccini but it's Renata Scotto and Placido Domingo, with Maazel conducting.

I just added Der Ferne Klang to my Amazon shopping cart.  I don't believe that I have ever heard a note of Schreker, and I find it fascinating that Alban Berg prepared the published vocal score.  Georges Bizet prepared the published vocal score of Faust for Gounod, as I recall.

Whenever I have to sing the text of the Magnificat in German, I always have to stifle my giggles when I get to the grosse Dinge.

Not because it's dirty, but because it sounds dirty.

And that's right up my proverbial alley.

Today is the birthday of W.R. Burnett.

Who was W.R. Burnett?

He was the author of some of the greatest crime novels (later movies) ever written. Among them: LITTLE CAESAR, HIGH SIERRA, THIS GUN FOR HIRE and THE ASPHALT JUNGLE. His last film credit was THE GREAT ESCAPE.

I was fortunate enough to interview Mr. Burnett back in the 1970s for one of my books, and he was later a guest in my home when I screened for him LITTLE CAESAR and another film he'd written, the original SCARFACE.

A fascinating man. I wrote about him in my 2nd memoir, LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD.

I didn’t get to watch Marnie last night, so I’ll be doing that in a couple of hours.

I’ve been remembering many of the visuals, but I completely forget what the music was like, so this will be most interesting.

One of the reviews said the Winston Graham novel is quite a good one, and I want to read it. I had done so back in my ‘70s Hitchcock days, but my copy the book is long gone.

The amount of sage sausage I make is always more than is needed for the stuffing, so, as is my yearly wont, I just had some of it with a couple of over easy eggs and a large slice of sourdough toast. OH MY GOD is that a good meal.

And now...

More coffee!

My last time seeing Mothra was in 35mm at the wonderful Colonial Theater in Phoenixville PA during their annual BlobFest around 2013 or 2014. I look forward to watching the new Blu-ray.

In a little while I’ll see what else I can prepare in advance for tomorrow. Chopping the herbs, certainly. Maybe chopping the dried cranberries, or can I leave those whole? I don’t remember. That’s for the stuffing; maybe they should be cut down some.

I think that’s about it. Everything else I do involves fresh stuff in the morning, and that’s easy. Am I really almost done with this for today?

John Yap is relentless.  I don't recall making more than a post or two when our Follies came out and I certainly didn't beg people to love it - we issued it and the comments were amazing without me doing anything.  If there are people who don't like it they're not gonna say anything because they know he'll be there to post a response.

I saw my osteopath today (also my PCP). I like him, but I dread going there because things just aren't well run. And now we have Covid to contend with. Last month, when I booked the appointment, the website said i wasn't eligible to see him. Why? Because of symptoms I've had for 1.5 years. I understand screening for Covid, but this is ridiculous. I had to lie to make an appointment.

Yesterday I did a lengthy e-check-in, where I verified everything. Then today we went through the same drill before I could enter the building. I did see my doctor, who said that everyone, including him, is frustrated with the situation. I imagine most seniors, if not others, would have at least one of the symptoms that makes you ineligible for an in-person visit. This is crazy. I don't like to lie, but I needed to see my doctor and even did the 10-day quarantine just in case.

Got everything done that needed doing.  Busy day.  Then I decided to go to the local Gelson's and get some stuffing and turkey from their carving station.  No parking (finally found a space pretty far from the store), store jammed, no stuffing or anything else left, no carving station, just a bunch of people buying out the store.  I left in disgust.  Therefore, if I actually want to have Thanksgiving dinner, thanks to those morons, I will have pasta with red sauce or frozen dinners.  Not so happy right now.

I had my physical (8 months late), he worked on my back, and ran a bunch of blood tests. At least that's done. It's been so difficult to get any care from this office since Covid started. I had a lot to update him on, too.

There's just no reason for things to be so difficult. Senior management receives very handsome compensation packages, I'm sure. I'd like to see senior managers get paid less and put that money to hire better nurses and admin people.

I understand your frustration. I don't think many restaurants were really prepared this year. I suspect they didn't know what to expect. But wouldn't you think that a lot of people, not entertaining, would want a nice traditional take-out? Louise's was prepared. They offered exactly that, but you had to place a reservation a few days ahead. Even so, they sold out.

Listening to von Karajan do the Mahler fifth - this is maybe the best fifth I've heard.  What I'm doing is making my iTunes perfect Mahler.  Hard choices when you've got Bruno Walter, Eugene Ormandy, Klemperer, Kubelik, Szell, von Karajan and others.  But I'm going through each and choosing my favorites for my ultimate Mahler cycle.
