Title: COMMUNAL AFFAIRS
Post by: bk on December 13, 2020, 12:36:46 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were communal and had affairs, and now it is time for you to post until the communal cows come home.

The Butterfly has flown and I've moved on to its polar opposite, Kurt Weill's opera, Die Burgschaft, which is very Weill and since I love Weill I'm really enjoying it.

Last night I had three dreams I remembered vividly when I woke an hour ago, and now I only remember one of them.  I was sharing an apartment with my friend Ben Davis, and we had both been away on jobs. While we were away, my friend Evans Haile had been staying there, and he left the place a mess. Very curious, since Evans is one of the neatest people I know.

BK, have you seen Mirella Freni's film of Madame Butterfly? She's one of my favorite sopranos, and she's really quite wonderful in this. I'm not always a fan of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's opera movies, but this and his Marriage of Figaro, with Freni as an adorable heroine, are quite wonderful.

PBS has removed Midsomer Murders - I think we were on Season 18 - from their current roster, so last night I dragged out Season One, and we watched the first two episodes, The Killings at Badgers Drift and Written In Blood.  I had forgotten how wonderful and perverse those early episodes, adapted from novels by Caroline Graham by Anthony Horowitz who created Foyle's War, could be.

Jean-Pierre Ponnelle did several film version of operas: I've got four of them: Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, Madame Butterfly, and The Marriage of Figaro. They all have wonderful moments.

Maybe someone here knows how this works:

I was just watching a couple of minutes of a YouTube Live thing while logged into my YouTube account (as I always am), and I wondered if the people running the presentation can see the identity of everyone who's just watching. In other words, if it says "22 people watching", do they see who those 22 people are?

They also had the chat window open and a few people were posting. I clicked on "Participants" and only those few people were listed. So I'm guessing that in the case of the chat window, you're only seen if you post? Or maybe if you click inside that window?

Just some privacy stuff I wondered about today which hadn't occurred to me before.

Maybe I can see better how that works on the Kritzerland show tonight. I always have both Facebook and YouTube running for that, with the volume muted on one depending on which is working better for me.

Hmmm. With both of them running -- is that like voting twice?  :D

It’s been a wild ride. Ended up in the ER around 1:30 am. Two—count ‘em, two!—kidney stones making their painful way down. They added to the fun by having to “cath” me in order to get me to urinate. Ow and oy. As soon as the stones moved into the urinary tract, the pain subsided in the main area. They let me go a little later.

True, and my cat that did the most damage never broke anything in the following years.  She certainly taught me much which prepared me for having children.  For Bryan's second Christmas we put the tree inside of his unused playpen.

Good Afternoon - home from church where we had 2 -  count them - 2 drive-in style mass's today.  People drove in the parking lot, tuned their FM Radio to the appointed frequency and mass commenced in the rain.  The priest was under a shelter and the musicians were in the breezeway.  I really have nothing more to add to that other than it was fine.  I'm thinking that Christmas may end up this way unless a miracle happens and they let us in the church.  Every day is a new adventure.

You must wear a mask -properly- the entire time you are in church property, even outside

The communion elements are in individual sealed packages and you take your own when you enter and take the empty packaging away with you at the end

At dismissal you must stay seated until your pew is called to leave, starting at the rows closest to the door.

You may not linger in church grounds but immediately leave the premises when your pew is dismissed

The WCPA has a big display out front with fake snow.  It's really cool!  The snow is actually some kind of soap:

It sounds as slippery as real snow ;)

We’ve been having indoor services at our church for the past 2 months with numerous restrictions

We have two sets of pews divided by  an aisle Every other pew is taped off .

And it’s staggered from the other side of the aisle

It seems to me as the numbers go up again extra precautions should be taken.

I don't know.  I avoided walking through it, just in case. ;D But I didn't hear that anyone fell, or even slipped, so I think that it wasn't very slippery.

Bk, I loved the show, but I had one big quibble: Peyton twice missed the rhyming of "Be Kris Kringle" with "what you bring'll." She sang "what you bring will." She's too good to do that.  I loved her "Simple Christmas Wish."

I might go to Gelson's and get some sweet treat.  I had past with meat sauce earlier from Antonio's - it was pretty good but not great.  And later, a half sandwich that I didn't like much, so I threw most of it away.

We have all the same precautions and have been successful. As for the singing, we don't say no singing, but there are no hymnals in the pews or words on the projector.  We try and do songs they don't know LOL.

We are doing our best and the consensus is that it is very safe.

Nice work tonight, bk!  The boys and I sat and watched the entire thing.  They love music and will stop what they are doing and just listen.  Today, I was working something out on the piano (it's finally set up) and all of a sudden, they are asleep on the couch.  All the time.... good boys!

Wonderful show, Kritzerland!

Listening to Elektra - third go-through, but in this remastered version, which I must say makes a big difference, and this third time, I'm beginning to "get" this thing, musically speaking.  Went to Gelson's and got a small half-rack of ribs - haven't done that in ages, but the calories are pretty low and show days are splurge days.  I'll be a very good boy tomorrow.  In fact, I may go back and get more ribs.
