Well, you've read the notes, the notes were blessed, and now it is time for you to post until the blessed cows come home.

To continue from last night: Tom, I'm sure Stephen Colbert's monologue will be on YouTube soon, if it's not already. I'll check it out.

I love his score for A Chorus Line!
-
Good morning, all!
-
This is one of those days that I hate. I must step out to see my doctor for clearance for next week's biopsy. While I am out, I must also stop at the post office and a UPS store to return that leather jacket to Amazon. I will be very happy to get home after all of that.
-
A very happy birthday to the DD of bk!
Ditto!
-
Before I go, I need to deal with kitty cleanup and the recyclables and bring up yesterday's deliveries and mail.
-
T.O.D.
Since John Williams used to be my publicity client and, in fact, I did the Oscar campaign for his first Academy Award, I would have to say: "All of them".
-
Kitty cleanup finished, I've dragged 40 lbs of kitty litter up from the first floor along with the mail, and I'm about to dress for my outing.
-
Good morning, all.
-
DR Elmore - In case you're unaware of it, I have it on good authority that there's a very popular Amazon return place in the San Fernando Valley.
-
Good morning, all.

Vibes for DR JEANNE!
Happy Birthday to the DD of MR BK.

Vibes for the fascinating news.

I hope more people join DR singdaw in his work today.

I got up at 8 a.m. today but it was really 7 a.m.
Birdy Barnum was surprised when the cover was removed from the cage!

DR Elmore - In case you're unaware of it, I have it on good authority that there's a very popular Amazon return place in the San Fernando Valley.
You are too kind.

I accomplished all my errands via three wonderful taxi drivers, saw my doctor, had an EKG, blood/urine work, and a referral for a chest x-ray, which I will do tomorrow morning. I am happy to be home. Thatch was the only one to greet me. Annabelle was napping, and I think Stella's still angry that I pulled her tail to keep her from running into the hall when I was trying to leave.
-
Onward
-
Two!
-
Happy birthday to BK’s DD.
-
It is also my sister Linda’s natal day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Darling Daughter!

The cats and I finished the Met Carmen. For everything that impressed me there was something that irritated me a lot, like that moronic dancing couple who danced through simulated sex during the beautiful entr'acte to Act Three. Carmen is the one opera I can think of where, just when you think you've heard every good tune, floors you with another. There's an ensemble following that wonderful card trio about how women occupy the guards while the smugglers do their thing with such surprising turns of harmony that absolutely knocks me over.
In Act Four, for the first time ever, that little moment with the flutes - after Escamillo's exit when Frasquita and Mercedes warn Carmer to be careful since they've seen Don Jose in the crowd - was absolutely heartbreaking since Carmen knows she will never see those friends again. I have never felt that before in any production. Then suddenly, after Don Jose stabs her, instead of the happy crowd leaving the bullfight to discover a murder, the scene changed to a sort of limbo! It irritated me, but I continued to be impressed by the cast.

Did you get any of those propositions—I mean proposals—that were meant to come to me recently?

Good Morning. Happy Birthday to bk's DD. It's a lovely day - at least in the Bay Area. San Mateo County is now Orange, which is a step in the right direction!
-
T.O.D.
Since John Williams used to be my publicity client and, in fact, I did the Oscar campaign for his first Academy Award, I would have to say: "All of them".
That's pretty darned cool, Druxy!
-
The Get My Payment apparatus still does not have enough information to tell me when my payment will be in my hands.
Darn. :-\
-
Now that it's been more than 24 hours, I need to check to see when I get my income tax refund!
-
It is also my sister Linda’s natal day.
Happy Birthday to your sister Linda!

My very first theatrical performance experience was a production of Carmen at Western Washington University. I was in the concert choir and we became the chorus of the opera. The director was tyrant (sort of), and there was Sturm und Drang throughout the rehearsal (fortunately, that didn't involve me), but I loved the whole experience! I had developed a love for musicals in high school, but this cemented my love for theater...even with the good, the bad, and the ugly (mostly). ;D

Good afternoon to all.
-
BK answering your question from yesterday. $30.00 would be what I could afford right now as I plan to get another perk
-
Okay, Michael Shayne, I'll put that up and you can grab it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

I just came across this article: Yaphet Kotto of ‘Live and Let Die,’ ‘Alien,’ dies at 81 (https://apnews.com/article/yaphet-kotto-dead-67f3d422866c3cf74fec1b0e628fd874).

I've been looking for a certain vocal score for some time, and it's very hard to find. I finally found s used copy on Abebooks.com and today it arrived from Germany. I am now a happy possessor of the Universal Edition vocal score of Richard Rodney Bennett's The Mines of Sulphur.
The title comes from Othello, Iago's speech in Act 3, Scene 3:
Dangerous conceits are in their natures poisons
Which at the first are scarce found to distaste,
But with a little act upon the blood
Burn like the mines of sulphur.
-
Happy Birthday wishes to the DS of DR John G.!!
-
Three!
-
According to Wikipedia, here are all of the operas by Richard Rodney Bennett:
The Ledge (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Ledge_(opera)&action=edit&redlink=1) (libretto by Adrian Mitchell) – 1961
- The Midnight Thief (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Midnight_Thief&action=edit&redlink=1) (libretto by Ian Serraillier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Serraillier)) – 1964
- The Mines of Sulphur (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mines_of_Sulphur) (libretto by Beverley Cross (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverley_Cross)) – 1965
- A Penny for a Song (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=A_Penny_for_a_Song&action=edit&redlink=1) – 1967
- All the King's Men (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=All_the_King%27s_Men_(opera)&action=edit&redlink=1) (libretto by Beverley Cross) – 1968
- Victory (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Victory_(opera)&action=edit&redlink=1) (libretto by Beverley Cross) – 1970

Indeed.

I love this description of The Mines of Sulphur from the publisher's website:
Part eerie ghost story, part murder mystery, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett’s opera The Mines of Sulphur made a triumphant eleventh hour addition to Glimmerglass Opera’s 2004 festival season in Cooperstown, New York. Commissioned by Sadler’s Wells in 1965, Bennett’s opera with its richly coloured score was widely acclaimed at the time of its premičre but fell into eclipse shortly after. It was such a wonderful surprise to witness a new life for this work, says the composer, and in such a marvellous new production. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Glimmerglass music director Stewart Robertson remembered the opera from his student days in Glasgow and suggested it when the scheduled premičre at the festival of a commissioned work was postponed. The gothic tale takes place in an 18th-century English country house where the wealthy landowner, Braxton, has been murdered by a vagabond trio of outcasts. A travelling band of actors arrives unexpectedly seeking shelter and enacts a play that reveals the treachery. But who are these actors really and what else have they wrought upon the household? As Shakespeare wrote in Othello, Dangerous conceits are, in their natures, poisons…[and] burn like the mines of sulphur. A riveting climax ensues.

Holy moley, DR Elmore. That's fantastic!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Thank you for all the vibes. My ultrasound went smoothly -- no real surprises -- and I drove through BK's old neighborhood on the way home from Beverly Hills. I treated myself to a Julie's Gone Green (take-out) lunch. Glad to have it done, one more step along what's turned out to be a long journey.
-
Happy Birthday to BK's DD.
-
Ditto for John G's sister.
-
The Get My Payment apparatus still does not have enough information to tell me when my payment will be in my hands.
Same here.
-
I noticed a lot more traffic today. People here are definitely getting out more. I'm pleased to see more business at restaurants, but dread the return of "normal" traffic.
-
Continued vibes for Indiegogo.
I do like TCB's idea. Since it's streaming, the singers don't need to be local. I know BK's used NY singers for some of the shows, but I really hadn't thought of how this really opens things up.
-
TTFN.
-
So, I have finally finished my taxes for the year.
-
I think the TurboTax hamster was really tired. It took forever to do the last three or four steps. One took more than 10 minutes. Plus, the instructions were just not as clear. I had to use other screens to get answers to questions. I had a 1095-C, but they were only asking for 1095-A. They should tell you that it doesn't matter if you have any other form.
-
But that's done.
-
And the wait begins.
-
Now, to get away from this screen before I scream at it some more.
-
Good medical news from DR Jeanne. I am glad.
-
Ditto for DR elmore3003.
-
Indiana has now opened up the vaccinations for folks 45 years old and up.
It is nice to see the age dropping.
Here we are at 65+.
-
Happy Birthday, Linda, sister of DR JOHN G.
-
Can't even get us to 60% today - that's exactly ONE percent from where we currently are. This is, frankly, concerning. Not sure what to do about it, but I really don't want to have to wait until the last second to fund because that means we won't cover our fees. And there will be hell toupee if we fall short of funding. I'm actually shocked the Theatre World photos, all originals, have not gone - they are PRICELESS and I really had to push myself to put them up as perks.
-
HA! I spent part of the day on Facebook. Last month some fool posted in the "You must have grown up in Mooresville" group that he remembered when Michael Landon visited.
All kinds of folks chimed in with MUCH misinformation....but the kicker was the fool who wrote that Landon and Barbara Eden were BOTH here that day and that his father drove them around town in his convertible.
Today, I posted news photos of BOTH visits that happened to be a year apart....Landon in 1967 and Eden in 1968.
The fool never acknowledged his error but claimed ALL THREE stars of Bonanza were at Paul Hadley Junior High School in 1963 and he met them all and his dad drove them around as well. I just posted that there was no news story about it.....and PHJHS didn't open until 1966.
-
Yea, I think I got some of that attention DR JOHN G. As I walked out of the bank yesterday, I heard the my teller say to someone else: "What an ass."
-

Settling in with the director's cut of The Masque of Red Death. Vincent Price is wonderful. The movie looks great. I find it funny that the intro talked about all these cuts that the censors made back then and how they'd all been restored. The cut running length was 88 minutes. The restored running length is 89 minutes.
-
Hoo and Ray! I just found that my bank account has been stimulated a day earlier than expected! ;D
Thanks, Biden and Democrats!! :-*
-
And in honor of this stimulus...61%!! ;)
-
Now, I await my income tax refund. :)
-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
61% thanks to dear reader George, who just got a fantastic item that's worth at least three times what he paid. More, please.
-
Hoo and Ray! I just found that my bank account has been stimulated a day earlier than expected! ;D

Congratulations on all your stimulations.
-
My mother and aunt in NJ were finally able to get their vaccine appointments through the local senior help line. They go tomorrow morning for the first shots. Color me relieved.
-
Once DR Michael grabs that bk perk, perhaps bk will consider putting up a few more of those.

Gratuitous post No. 99!

Hey, I'll put up five total, how's that?
-
Can anyone please explain to me the following: I'm listening for the first time to what is a most delightful opera - Die Fledermaus by Strauss - I know, I know, very late to the party but I recognize so many of the tunes. But in the middle of the opera there's something called the "gala scene" where guest singers (on this recording by von Karajan from 1960, which is wonderful( suddenly start singing other music, including I Could Have Danced All Night, Porgy and Bess, and Annie Get Your Gun. What is THAT about? Is this standard?
-
What a very effective and disturbing movie. Pandemic approved.

Yes, it is standard and it also confusing as all get out the first time through.
Elmore can probably explain it better, but, to me, it's merely been a show-off interlude.
-
Okay, there are now five signed quotes available so go grab 'em.
-
Well, I must be off. My sister needs me to do some shopping for her, then I'll go home.
Be back later.

An early form of celebrity/stunt casting?

Who would you invite to a party?

Started a John D. MacDonald stand-alone called A Key to the Suite. Just excellent. I don’t want to rush it.
So, I will probably finish my Thomas Hardy first. A Pair of Blue Eyes. Meh.

Good night, all.

Are you stealing my punchlines?
-
Hi, Tom and Jane.
-
Hello, George.
-
Tonight, when the 11:00 News ended, I quickly turned off the TV because I hate the show that comes on after the news on Sunday night.
-
PROBLEM: It ain’t Sunday night!
-
I am drifting towards the edge.
-
And there is no net below.

PROBLEM: It ain’t Sunday night!
Tom, sounds like you're turning into Maggie Smith. ;)

I should be so lucky. I think I am just getting senile.
-
What is this low posting number?
-
Lucky I didn’t try to go to church this morning.
-
I do not understand this low posting number.
-
I find it to be low.
-
It was really too cold for an outside church service, even if it had been Sunday.
-
Low is what I find it to be.
-
Low.
-
Some restaurants have begun indoor dining. Must find a list.
-
I do not understand this low posting number.
Oh, we went back on standard time. It is actually a little bit after eleven.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
New notes are posted.
-
Trackpad is charged.
-
That's exciting news.
-
Trackpad is charged.
Congrats, BK! ;D
