This is my first morning home in two days, so I see a bit of tidying that needs to be down, along with Thatch's mess. I think my friend and colleague on the new How To Succeed in Business edition nay stop by today with some of my edits, so it will be nice to see him.

Last night we finished watching that production of Carmen from the Opéra-Comique. Like the Met production with Garanca and Alagna, there were many good things and things that irritated me, primarily the putrid video direction. At the climax of the Act Four duet, just before Carmen is murdered, the video jumps from a closeup of Don Jose and Carmen to a view from the back of the house for no reason and then jumps back to the killing, but the entire intensity of the scene was destroyed.

This performance seems to use the Robert Didion critical edition, which - with three exceptions - uses the score played on opening night in 1875 at the Opéra-Comique, so after watching the video, I checked out the score. It contains all the spoken dialogue as well and inserts three sections of music (the children's chorus and two sections in the entrance chorus of cigarette girls) that were cut in rehearsal. Since the traditional Carmen performed in the last 100 years was assembled by Ernest Guiraud after Bizet's death, Didion has removed all of Giraud's recitatives, revised orchestrations, and cuts.

Good luck and vibes. Craig stayed home from work today as he still has a headache and not feeling great. He automatically had yesterday off to encourage teachers to get vaccinated.

I was glad of that last weekend. I did sleep more Friday-Saturday. Then some government conspiracy happened to rob me of sleep and I’ve been suffering ever since.

At least that isn't the cost for regular. We get various discounted prices through Fred Meyer. Currently the base premium price is $3.25 a gallon. $4.15 is crazy.

Watched the rest of John Lewis: Good Trouble. Great documentary about a great American. And the ending, before his death last year, was really touching because he was shown in several different scenes being happy with how his life turned out. Yes, there were still problems, the beginning of the recent wave to take voting rights away from millions of Americans. But he continued to fight, continued to set an example.

What does that mean?

At the top of every screen next to your avatar, it shows "Total time logged in:" the total amount of time that you've been logged into HHW. Mine's so high because I log in when I'm at work and I just stay logged in during the day. :)
