Just got a nice contribution - the Kimmel Collection perk, which took us up to 69%! One thing I remember is the percentage going up goes slower from here to the end, don't know why that is but I remember it from the other campaigns.

My dad loved Miles Davis.  I'm not a fan of the extreme improvised stuff, but I'm pretty sure that my dad liked most of Miles' music.

I had a really good night of sleep, but I had a lot of strange dreams, of which I remember only bits.  In one, I was in some shop in the West 40s in Manhattan, watching Fred Astaire wrestle another actor.  I don't remember what started the conflict.

In another, which took place in the house where I grew up as well as Manhattan, I was on a jury, but we were all sequestered in my parents' home.

I have heard nothing about this biopsy on Monday, so I don't know any of the following:
  1. where it's being given
  2. a time
  3. what prep us required, if any
  4. if it's still on

Last night we watched Sir Peter Hall's 1985 Glyndebourne production of Carmen, with the then-Mrs Peter Hall, Maria Ewing, as Carmen.  It remains my favorite production on video.  It was clearly not filmed live onstage, because the blocking onstage would be a disaster in the crowd scenes, but the cast is quite good and actually age-appropriate.  The standard opéra-comique version is performed with spoken dialogue instead of the recitatives composed by Guiraud after Bizet's death, which I prefer; it provides more information to the audience. It also proves the intention of the writers was to keep the first act rather light, like a musical, and tighten the screws. Up until Don Jose's entrance in Act Two, this could be a musical comedy about a soldier, his hometown girl, and a vamp, but by the end of Act Two, things get darker, and the young man goes to hell, his homrtown girl is deserted, and his sexual obsession for the vam takes over.  There's less spoken dialogue in Act Three, and only one brief scene - cut in the standard opera house edition - in Act Four.

Here's her Habanera from the production and you can see this would never work onstage with her moving in and out of the crowd:

Connecticut opened the vaccinations up to ages 45-54 starting this morning, and it's a sh*tsh*w because apparently there are several people in that age range living in the state. Who knew? Everything was log-jammed right at 8:00 am with everyone trying to get in through the phone lines and the VAMS database. Kristi will be trying through the day, and likely through the next couple of days, to get herself and Nathan in.

Had a crappy night of sleep. I tossed and turned most of the night, because for whatever reasons, none of my usual methods of getting sleepy enough was working. I even tried the TV, my last resort. TCM was playing Breakfast at Tiffany's, which at some point did the job because I woke up hearing them talking about it afterwards. Then Swing Time was on, and I fell asleep a little ways into that. Then, awake again, they were about to start Stagecoach and by then I felt I could say the HELL with it and I turned the TV off and went to sleep --- for maybe two hours. At around 4:45 am I was getting up to pee, then laid there for nearly a hour till I apparently dozed off because the weird dreams, none of which are clear now, commenced. A midday nap would be most welcome. I shall try to take one later.

DR CHAS SMITH you didn't stay up late enough to see Denny Miller and Joanna Barnes in TARZAN THE APE MAN......

I have to say that I lost a lot of my admiration and respect that I had for Alisha Malone after listening to her SJW crap after THE SEARCHERS.  She is no longer in my good graces and I will not be listening to anything she says in her intros anymore......MUTE BUTTON.

Haven't heard that one. Thanks for the warning.

I would never object to a quick acknowledgment of these issues, made along with any other observations about a movie. But I think they're jumping the shark. Not just TCM, of course. Everyone.

The little bit I heard about Breakfast at Tiffany's...I thought it would go on forever.  MUTE.

71%!!! The other page says 72 and to show you how wonky the percentage going up gets at the end we had $170 in contributions this morning and that should have taken us up at least three percent - we were at 69 last night, so 72 is correct on that other page but not on the home page.

New perks are up, including one great investment opportunity - it will seem pricey, but I've priced it at less than 50% of the cheapest available on eBay - it's an original cel from Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service, my favorite of all the Miyazaki films. These have gone into the stratosphere, value-wise and range on eBay from just over 2K all the way up to over 6K and NONE are as good as mine, which features not only an incredible image of Kiki herself, but also JoJo the cat. In perfect condition. More souvenir programs are up and this batch includes the original productions of Follies and Li'l Abner, and then a minty fresh boxed set of 78s for South Pacific, which was they way it was originally released.

People who go back cannot bring their own hand sanitizer with them, no personal items to place in their work space. They must wear a mask at all times except when seated at a desk undisturbed. If some comes over to talk to you, it’s mask time.

Here's her Habanera from the production and you can see this would never work onstage with her moving in and out of the crowd:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEe_404iMpU

and the Seguidilla:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMZX5-URqYU

I just came across this clip from a later production of Carmen starring Maria Ewing.  Here she is singing another Seguidilla (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd4OdtK13IA).

That got me thinking about putting songs from Broadway shows into OTHER Broadway shows - for character or for enjoyment.

I call the game Change That Song!

"Love Look Away" from 'Flower Drum Song' becomes a song for the Baroness to sing in 'The Sound of Music' after Maria comes back to the Von Trapp villa.

"Oom Pah Pah" from 'Oliver!' is sung at the 4th of July celebration in 'The Music Man' in place of "Shi-Poopi!'

People who go back cannot bring their own hand sanitizer with them, no personal items to place in their work space. They must wear a mask at all times except when seated at a desk undisturbed. If some comes over to talk to you, it’s mask time.

I am rather sensitive to most hand sanitizer and would be unhappy if I couldn't use my own.  Odd too that you can't carry it with you as long as you take it home at night.

Today was Needle Day (acupuncture), then I had my glasses adjusted. I'm trying out a new optometrist. He's an older man and seems quite nice. I can't have new glasses made until after the ophthalmologist does his little procedure on me and that probably won't be until sometime in the summer. So many delays because of Covid!

I chuckled a couple of times, never at him - the girl is really excellent, but an Oscar nomination is completely wacky to me - it should have been the young girl from News of the World. But she's the only reason to watch the Borat movie. I don't find him amusing at all, and his comedy rather than being funny gross is, for me, merely gross.
