Well, you've read the notes, the notes had an actual test pattern, and now it is time for you to post until the test pattern cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FIDDLESTICKS!
-
Darn. I almost made it to page seven last night. ;)
-
Today, I'll probably do some laundry before I usher at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts (last night was at South Puget Sound Community College). Tonight's event is the Johansen Olympia Dance Center (https://www.olympiadancecenter.com/). Previous dance companies for which I've ushered have shown filmed dances, but I don't know if this will have in-person performing, or if they'll show films. I'll find out soon enough.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR vixmom, no, I am, not cancer free, much as I wish I were! There were no signs of cancer in my skeletal system, which is very good. I will begin treatment for prostate cancer on Thursday.
-
Tomorrow morning I have a zoom meeting with my collaborator and producer for Moonshine & Mistletoe. He's trying to sell it for television, so some good vibes might be helpful. I also have an Amazon Fresh delivery, and Michael Gildin coming in, so it will be a busy day. Today, I'm resting up!

BK, I'm with you on Chimes at Midnight, which is based on Shakespeare's two Henry IV plays. Much as I love Henry V, I have never cared much for either part of the prequels, and I've never found Falstaff and nis cronies much fun. They seem to be having much more fun than I in the audience am having. I will say, though, that I do find the scene in Henry IV, Part Two, when Falstaff and his crew arrive at the coronation, expecting their cohort in crime, Prince Hal, to let them live at court, and he, now crowned King Henry V, banishes them one of the truly heartbreaking moments in drama.
-
What do Ponchielli and Verdi have in common besides being Italian opera composers? Boito, who wrote the libretti for Verdi's Otello and Falstaff and Ponchielli's La Gioconda, which is one of my most favorite operas with the stupidest plot. The music, including Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours," is quite beautiful, and this recording is really fine.

I agree that Falstaff isn’t likable or enjoyable in these two plays. But to me, that makes the ending inevitable, not all that heartbreaking. It’s like the Shakespearean equivalent of “Bye, Felicia!”

Sunday......television deal vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I loved the test pattern as well. We had three local channels....Channel 4 (independent), Channel 6 (NBC), and Channel 8 (CBS).
Then one day in 1957, it was announced that Channel 13 (ABC) would begin broadcasting in October! I turned to the channel every day....nothing....and then suddenly a TEST PATTERN....for a few days....and then.....THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB!

The Hunchback is morte.
Great audience....set is struck.....and now I move on to JOSEPH with auditions at 3 p.m. this afternoon. Last night during strike, I went upstairs in The Little Barn and brought down my palm trees and my camel....but I couldn't find my cactus.
This might be some HUNCHBACK photos.

Good morning, all.
-
Whoa! Sometimes you ask for pictures, and the Lord provides.
That looks like quite the production, DR Jrand70!!
-
I grew up with test patterns, too, of course, but I didn’t recall the Indian.
-
I first saw Chimes at Midnight at the Welles festival I attended at USC around 1981. They screened it with Macbeth one evening. (I remember Dan O’Herlihy was there.) I was fascinated by it then, but I haven’t had much luck getting into it and staying with it since.

I do love him in that and I love that play. I know it's a problem play for some, but I saw a magical production of it that remains with me 40+ years later.

Love me some flopsicals.

I went dancing this morning for 90 minutes. We worked on a series of tango steps that were new to me, but they came easily. Some had parts that we had worked on before. Felt good.
-
But I feel a nap coming on.
-
But first ...
-
Two!

DR vixmom, no, I am, not cancer free, much as I wish I were! There were no signs of cancer in my skeletal system, which is very good. I will begin treatment for prostate cancer on Thursday.
Oh dear I misread the post. I will keep you in my prayers, my dear Elmore
-
What fantastic photos, JRand, a cast of thousands!! I wish I could have seen it!
-
I did get up at 730, oddly waking before the alarm, and made it to church, showered, shampooed, hair done and makeup on
-
On time!
-
Who said miracles do not still happen in this day and age?
-
Good afternoon, friends.

Wow... nice photos, DR Jrand70.

Thirded!
-
Summer is finally here and I feel too hot to move.
-
Falstaff is currently on MetOpera.org
-
In the Heights did not set box office records -- in fact, it was underattended. But exist polls show audiences liked it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe a bit more than eight hours of sleep.
-
I got the stereo Callas Gioconda and also whatever the first stereo recording was in 1958 on Decca.
-
~~~MOONLIGHT AND MISTELTOE VIBES~~~ for DR elmore3003!
It's Moonshine!
-
I got the stereo Callas Gioconda and also whatever the first stereo recording was in 1958 on Decca.
It's a wonderful opera!
-
DR Ginny, I just had a nice phone call with Jim Martin, who sends his regards.
-
DR Jrand71, the photos are great, but I would love a few from you with identifying cast and names and anecdotes or gripes in your inimitable style!
-
DR elmore3003 --- I don't what what you're talking about! 8)
-
But.... apologies.
:-*
-
I am reading the Wagner overview in the latest issue of American Record Guide. Lots to learn.
-
Next on the weekend agenda: home haircuts. It's dicey, but we've gotten more and more proficient over the course of the pandemic.
-
I hate that magazine's editor Donald Vroon so much I stopped subscribing!
I do love Fanfare and Gramophone!
Thanks for having my back, guys! :D
-
Dear Elmore,
Please show Michael the concert I posted on Facebook, just in case he wants to book their act when Fiddler goes back on tour.
-
Is Fanfare still published?
-
Sunday evening greetings! Fr. Richard worked both days at the church in Dayton this weekend, performing a wedding yesterday and celebrating mass today. We both took long naps this afternoon.
-
DR Ginny, I just had a nice phone call with Jim Martin, who sends his regards.
DR Elmore, that means a lot to me! I’m so glad the two of you have reconnected.
-
Has anyone seen or heard a musical called "35 mm"? The local Equity rep theater is doing it this coming season.
-
They were getting ready to open Bright Star when the pandemic hit, but that's not on their schedule.
Instead they are planning on She Loves Me, Once on This Island, Plaid Tidings, tick, tick ... Boom! and A Bronx Tale.
They used to do nonmusicals, but none appears on this schedule.
-
I used to read all those magazines (Fanfare, etc.) — but more by browsing them in the record and book stores than subscribing or regularly reading every issue. I do miss that.
-
Dear Elmore,
Please show Michael the concert I posted on Facebook, just in case he wants to book their act when Fiddler goes back on tour.
I don't think he's going back out with it. He's waiting on an Asian tour of The Sound of Music top start up..
-
Is Fanfare still published?
Yes, I think so.
-
That reminds me... I saw a video trailer for Tick Tick Boom... Was it a Netflix coming attraction? I can't remember.
-
Yes, bk, Fanfare is still published. It's quite the tome!
-
DR ELMORE check my name - you're a bit previous...but just a bit.
I'm not sure you would want my comments on said photos....but perhaps I will do a few here and there.
-
JOSEPH auditions were very good, but of course I NEED more folks. The dancing was fun and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
There are a couple of folks I probably won't use just because of their past behavior......but I am SO leery of casting a person I don't know anything about in a leading role.....been burned a few times.....
-
And of course we need MORE men.
-
Good evening!
-
Nice photos, DR Jrand70!
-
That reminds me... I saw a video trailer for Tick Tick Boom... Was it a Netflix coming attraction? I can't remember.
Netflix and some theaters.
-
And of course we need MORE men.
sounds like a song for Messalina from a musical version of I, Claudius.
-
The AC is in overdrive today. It probably didn't help that I had the stovetop going.
-
Made Classic French onion soup. The recipe was very respectful of tradition. The aroma was intoxicating. The flavor really special.
-
And now I'm down to five recipes left in the book.
-
Ned Beatty has died. He was from Louisville. Always enjoyed his performances, especially in Hear My Song, Nashville and Network.
-
Lots accomplished today. Feeling satisfied about that.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Lots accomplished today. Feeling satisfied about that.
Congratulations.
-
I started Stacey Abrams' thriller, While Justice Sleeps. It's picking up steam.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
I have too much housework to do. Oh, well. There's always tomorrow.
-
What am I, a Disney character all of a sudden?
-
Please, don't answer that.
-
Hello, 2 guests!
-
What Disney character would people say you are?
-
I'm sure a few would liken me to Ursula the Sea Witch.
-
Or one of the braying donkey boys from Pinocchio.
-
And who knows what my enemies would say.
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
Just learned that Ned Beatty went to the same high school I did. Obviously at different times.
-
Maybe he didn’t. But mom ran the cash register in the cafeteria for more than 10 years.
-
Anyway, that’s it for me today.
-
Good night, all.
-
Gee, some ME day this turned out to be, i.e. not at all.
-
I ended up doing fixes on the Nothing in Common script - we're now on Reading Script.3 and I hope that's it. I felt strongly that the character of a young girl disappears early in act two and never comes back. She's really lovable and it just didn't feel right to me. So, I talked to the writer and he agreed and he quickly wrote a little scene based on what I thought it should be. Then I rewrote it, he liked it and we put it in. I had to go over the entire script with the fellow who'll be reading the stage directions, so that took forever. As we were going through it, I realized that there was some dialogue in the middle of a song that we musically had no time for, nor did it belong there - so I moved it to before the song and now the set-up of the song is much stronger for that.
-
I had the Stanley's chopped salad for lunch - excellent.
-
I've had not time for watching, not one single minute.
-
I have been listening to music as I've been working: a wonderful two-CD set of Saint-Saens orchestral music, all of it unknown to me - beautifully done, great music, and great sound. And then Richard Strauss's opera Friedenstag, either his final opera or his penultimate. I like it.
-
Today, I'll probably do some laundry before I usher at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts (last night was at South Puget Sound Community College). Tonight's event is the Johansen Olympia Dance Center (https://www.olympiadancecenter.com/). Previous dance companies for which I've ushered have shown filmed dances, but I don't know if this will have in-person performing, or if they'll show films. I'll find out soon enough.
Well, it was all live dancing in the theater.
-
They only were allowing 120 or so seats to be sold, but I don't know what the final door count was.
-
They had seven groups, and each group actually performed twice in a row.
-
The first time was essentially each group's final dress, and parents/audience could take pictures or film that first time through (no flash, of course).
-
The second time was the final performance.
-
After that's done, I think I'll listen to Troilus and Cressida by William Walton - I've only heard the Chandos recording, which I didn't love, but this is the original recording with Lawrence Foster conducting - maybe there was an earlier one? I do think Walton conducted one but think it was excerpts. I'll have to research.
-
They had a professional videographer filming, so no other audience filming of each group's second performance.
-
I did a Gelson's run - just a few things.
-
I didn't notice anyone breaking that rule, so that was good.
-
It was fine evening and it all went quite well without any incidents.
-
And now...
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
Before the show, I went shopping and bought some new black pants.
-
I don't sew, so I taped up the hem on the inside of the pant legs. ::)
-
;)
-
It works for me.
-
I had lunch at Subway and had one of their new Ham and Cheese Fresh Melt Sandwiches (https://www.subway.com/en-US/MenuNutrition/Menu/Featured-Products).
-
It's basically a sandwich with extra cheese that's toasted a little longer than usual.
-
I like the extra cheese.
-
After the show, I went to Fred Meyer and got some keto ice cream because low carbs.
-
I forget the brand, but I've gotten some before.
-
The flavors that I've had are quite tasty, but the cookies and cream flavor always seems a little grainy, but I think that it's the chocolate pieces more than anything else.
-
They don't use chocolate chips.
-
They're cookie pieces, so I guess that's why it's kind of grainy.
-
It otherwise tastes good...the texture is just off on that one flavor.
-
And now, I'm home.
-
Oh, and I did no laundry today. ::)
-
Tomorrow morning I have a zoom meeting with my collaborator and producer for Moonshine & Mistletoe. He's trying to sell it for television, so some good vibes might be helpful. I also have an Amazon Fresh delivery, and Michael Gildin coming in, so it will be a busy day. Today, I'm resting up!
Just slightly west of Leicester Square you are!
I'd read that, too. Too bad. :-\ Hopefully, it'll do (financially) better. I wonder if/how they account for the HBO Max streaming.
I actually know someone who kind of has eyes like that, and usually gets a little to close to people when he's talking to them. He's a nice guy, but doesn't always understand the concept of "personal space." ;)
