Well, you've read the notes, the notes fiddled, and now it is time for you to post until the fiddling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BELVEDERE!
-
Topic of the Day: I've never seen a live production of Fiddler on the Roof. I've seen the movie, and clips on YouTube of productions from around the world, but never a whole production. I do love the score, though. Maybe I'll get to see it someday.

So, any dog lovers?

Good morning, all!
-
I had a terrible night of sleep, and I wish I could blame the heat, which was bearable, or the cats, who were well-behaved for a change. I was like a yo-yo, up and down all night, once I got to sleep, and that took forever. I have things to accomplish today, but I'm sure I see a nap in my immediate future.
-
There are several things I do need to accomplish today, and I will try to accomplish those once kitty cleanup is out of the way.

Good morning, all.
-
I have seen several dinner theater productions of Fiddler on the Roof. I don’t remember who starred in them. The quality varied, but the show always manages to get me with the song Far from the Home I Love.
-
I saw the movie Fiddler when I was a kid. I haven’t felt the need to see it again. I loved it as a kid but I also found it overstuffed, though I wouldn’t have been able to explain it then.
-
I liked the people in the documentary more than the actual movie.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Sorry, DR elmore3003. Hope you can get some quality rest.
-
I always thought that the movie version of Fiddler had a reputation as being one of the more faithful adaptions of its stage counterpart.
-
But for me, some of the magic of the stage always dissolves when translated into the reality of film.
-
I have seen many amateur productions of Fiddler, mostly quite bad. I did see the 70s revival in New York with Mostel that bk mentioned.
-
Kitty cleanup and the major chore are over, thank God.
-
In the mid=1990s, there was a wonderful copy shop on Amsterdam Avenue around 84th Street. I used them a lot, especially on BK's albums. for copies of orchestra parts and reductions of scores to 8.5x11 copies. The staff was great, especially Granville, a hefty African-American man who went out of his way to see things went smoothly. One day I had a sudden nosebleed while I was copying, and he supplied me with tomns of Kleenex as I copied.
Anyway, I haven't thought about him for years. I have no idea where he is now or how he is. Last night I dreamed I was meeting him for a movie.
-
I saw a good dinner theatre prouction of Fiddler on the Roof around 1978. I had already seen and loved the film. DR vixmom and I saw the last revival in previews. Danny Burstein was wonderful, as was most of the cast. I did not like the director's concept.
-
Monday - I am still working on GO GO GO JOSEPH for tonight's blocking.
-
I almost always enjoy FIDDLER ON THE ROOF - although some vanity casting has sometimes made the evening a slog.
I also like being in a production of it.....my favorite role is Avram the bookseller....
I have seen two touring productions.....in one the guy from the movie played Tevye and he was good. I don't know who was the first Tevye and I don't have my program....but the whole show was great.
I love the Wedding Scene and The Dream.....like DR JOHN G I really like "Far From The Home I Love".....but I guess my favorite would have to be "Tradition."
-
According to the inner web - I saw Theodore Bikel as Tevye.......
-
I read the first book about the making of Fiddler. I own the more recent book but haven’t made the time to read it.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! I've just spent a delightful hour in my second-to-last ALA virtual session, learning about forthcoming books from 4 very astute librarians and the editor of Booklist magazine.
-
TOD - I first saw a tour Fiddler at Detroit's Fisher Theatre when I was in high school, with, I think, Herschel Bernardi as Tevye. We saw 2 high school productions when Rob was that age - one at Middletown HS with a truly multi-cultural cast (African-American Tevye, Asian American daughter, etc.) and one at Franklin HS with our niece Lauren as Fruma Sarah. Our most recent Fiddler experience was at the Museum of Jewish History in New York, where we saw the Yiddish production directed by Joel Grey.
-
Good morning, all.
No. Damn it to HELL, it's afternoon. How did that happen?
-
I regret missing both the Danny Burstein and Yiddish productions. (I was rather predisposed to not love the actual production, but I wanted to see Danny Burstein.)
Plenty of unmemorable Fiddlers, but I'll never forget seeing Jan Peerce in a summer Musicarnival / Kenley Players production in northeastern Ohio around 1971. I went, not expecting much except to enjoy seeing him do something else after he'd sung a couple of concert operas with us in Cleveland, but I was stunned at his performance, so full of humanity, and how affective and heartbreaking I found, for the first time, the "Little Chavala" scene, thanks to his singing.
-
So, our heat wave is lasting through Wednesday. That had been the original forecast, then they seemed to be extending it into Thursday. This morning they're showing Thursday as relief day, but they've also raised our temperatures from "just into the 90s" to the mid-90s.
But we do have air conditioners, and I wouldn't trade that for what DRs George and TCB are dealing with, no sir.
-
Bought my ticket to see Victor Victoria at the Bedford tomorrow evening. That will be most enjoyable.
-
Cooling vibes for the NW.
-
Two!
-
I just remembered that I have the original Japanese cast recording of Fiddler on vinyl somewhere.
-
aH.....the second touring production I saw also had Herschel Bernhardi as Tevye...and movie's ANNIE Miss Aileen Quinn as one of the daughters.....
-
We are back from the gym and heading out for a walk before it gets any hotter. Currently we are at 100 degrees.
-
I have hydrated with water and blueberries.
-
We will stay in the shade.

We just returned home and it is 108 degrees.

Today my book group is returning to meetings at the clubhouse.
-
I wish we were doing Zoom as get to walk over there at the hottest time of the day.
-
I think I had better go hydrate again.
-
At 2:00 I rinsed out the bathtub. At 3:00 when I went to feed the cats and take my bath, the water was off. At 3"45 it was back on inly the hot water is now running pink, and I refuse to bathe in it.
Color me pissed, really pissed.
-
I called the super, and he said to let it run. I have no idea how long it will be until it runs clear again.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
Jrand, if you saw Bikel in the mid-1980s you most like saw Robert Yacko in it as Perchik. He toured with Bikel a lot, and he also did it with Herschel Bernardi.

Hello, 1 Guest!
-
The turning of the page.
-
THREE!!!
-
I am home and the temp is 115 degrees.
-
They should begin going down now.
-
Not only did the sun & heat hurt my skin, the hot wind on my face was very uncomfortable.
-
I wish I had something edifying to report.
-
But I don't.
-
Not even something un-edifying.

NEWS FLASH:
-
Good night, friends.
-
'night
-
Back from dinner with a group of friends I hadn't seen since the start of the pandemic.
-
We went to a Palestinian place that let us bring in our own wine.
-
I had a mezza plate with tabbouleh, fried cauliflower, stuffed grape leaves and mushrooms. Very satisfactory.
-
But it was the time seeing folks that was best of all.
-
One friend handed out homemade Worcestershire sauce that she'd made. Very nice.
-
Home now. Going to chill out with a Mae West movie called Belle of the Nineties. She sings with Duke Ellington and His Orchestra.
-
But first, I have to finish a dreadful episode of Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space. I may not make to the end of this set.
-
The animation is worse than the original, and the scripts are cheesy beyond belief.
-
Plus, they changed the lyrics to the theme song.
-
By the way, it's 79 degrees here, with a nice breeze. Thunderstorms are expected tonight.
-
We're on our way.
-
To page four, that is.
-
But first ...
-
A message from our sponsors ...
-
Who are our sponsors?
-
Four!
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Hi there!
-
Just off the phone with the Vixter
-
She and Vixhubby celebrate their second wedding anniversary tomorrow
-
Yesterday we attended a graduation party
-
Well, briefly attended the party
-
The venue had been changed since the original album venue, Vixdad’s best friends home, had been gutted by a fire on Fathers Day
-
So one of their neighbors kindly took over hosting duties
-
It was held in the back yard, and awnings were erected to provide shade
-
It was in the low 90’s, very sunny with no breeze
-
Perfect weather in my opinion
-
However the graduating kids’ 90 year old grandma, who was sitting next to me, had much less heat tolerance and passed out
-
While I put ice on the back of her neck and her daughters chafed her wrists and kept her in her chair, someone called 911
-
A po showed up first, coincidentally the son of the owner of the home
-
Followed shortly by an ambulance
-
While EKG was being performed and intravenous saline was started no one noticed immediately
-
Vixdad slowly losing consciousness
-
But he made some kind of groan that made me turn
-
And I shouted medic, we’ve got another one!
-
They bundled him into the ambulance and soon we were off to the ER
-
Vixmom, how scary. I hope both are OK.
-
Around 11 pm they declared “dehydration and heat exhaustion”and sent us home
-
I’m still working but I have no idea for how much longer
-
In 2005 The Vixter and I saw Fiddler with Harvey Fierstein and Rosie O'Donnell .
He was wonderful, she brought nothing special to the role but was adequate, but I loved everything about the production, I loved the set, I loved the performances.
-
Oh, my goodness! :o
~~~VIBES ALL AROUND!!~~~
-
...not about Fiddler, though. ;)
-
I saw the latest Fiddler revival in previews with Elmore, I don’t remember the year
-
Danny Burstein was Tevye and I loved his performance
-
Dialogue from Belle of the Nineties:
Maid: What kind of husband do you think I should get?
Mae West: Get a single man. Leave the husbands to their wives.
-
Five!
-
I'm at my downstairs dining table and finished a chapter in my book on my Kindle.
-
I am hesitant to go upstairs, but I know I must.
-
It's 107° in Tumwater right now.
-
I was less excited about some of the direction
-
We'll see what the temperature is like up in my room.
-
And I can’t remember the set at all so I guess we can say it was not memorable
-
My first introduction to the show was the movie and I have always loved it
-
And here we are:
-
I wonder if that clock temperature gauge can get to 100°. I'll either find out, or I won't.
-
I just placed the movie Jazz on a Summer's Day in the DVD player. I haven't seen this movie in years, but it has footage of Dinah Washington, Anita O'Day, Louis Armstrong and more, and I love it. But instead of starting the movie, I found that there are extras, including a documentary on the director, Bert Stern, who also photographed the Sue Lyon poster of Lolita, Marilyn, Audrey, Twiggy and so many more. I just want to watch all of it. He's fascinating.
-
But I have to go to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Vixmom, vibes for your whole family. Hard to believe Vixter's second anniversary is tomorrow.
-
We went to a Palestinian place that let us bring in our own wine.
Yum.
-
The venue had been changed since the original album venue, Vixdad’s best friends home, had been gutted by a fire on Fathers Day
:(
-
Vixmom, how scary. I hope both are OK.
Ditto.
-
Vibes to the Vixfamily and their friends!
-
The hot winds earlier were from the East.
-
Now the cool winds are blowing in from the West.
-
It is 84 degrees :) :) :)
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Had Taco Bell for lunch - well within my calorie count and room for a small snack.
-
Haven't had that in about eight months, I'd guess.
-
It's down to 95.8° in my bedroom! ;D
-
I have my little fan blowing directly on me, so that's helping me stay cool.
-
I also have a bottle of water with some fruit flavoring in it.
-
Even though I added a lot more than a single serving (which is only supposed to be about a half teaspoon ::) ), it doesn't have a very strong flavor, but it's good enough.
-
They bundled him into the ambulance and soon we were off to the ER
Oh my gosh, I hope he is okay. Prayers for both patients and their families.
-
I'm at my downstairs dining table and finished a chapter in my book on my Kindle.
Page six
-
I am glad I didn’t wait for George to change the page, since he is gone.
-
Seattle hit a record temperature of 108 degrees today.
-
I don’t think we got that high in my zip code. I believe we peaked at 106 degrees.
-
At least, that was what my phone said.
-
I have had the A/C running all evening.
-
It feels pretty good.
-
I wish I could convince the kitties that it feels good, but they have stayed in the other room.
-
I got an angry set of texts from a friend that so many Tacoma restaurants, especially along the waterfront, stayed close today because of the hot weather.
-
Apparently, he wanted to go dine on the water, but everything was closed. He was really upset.
-
I told him to chill out. I assured him that it wasn’t a plot by the Democrats.
-
Well, pill time in the city.
-
Good night to nobody.
-
I'm at my downstairs dining table and finished a chapter in my book on my Kindle.
You are writing a book on your Kindle?
;D
-
Apparently, he wanted to go dine on the water, but everything was closed. He was really upset.
Tonight, I wanted to sit in an air conditioned place, but just about everything was closed...at least, the places that had indoor dining closed their indoor dining.
-
A couple of places even closed their drive-throughs. :-\
-
I eventually went to Panda Express and was able to get some food to go.
-
I brought it home and enjoyed some of it while reading my book on my Kindle.
-
I only ate about half of it and will probably have the rest of it for dinner tomorrow.
