Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a textbook on how not to do an audio commentary, and now it is time for you to post until the commentary cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SALIENT!
-
Good morning, all!
-
The laundry is in the washers, and it will go into the dryers in around 40 minutes. This afternoon Fed Ex will pick up two more cartons for Miami University Library, and that will be the end of my shipments for some time.
-
I slept rather poorly last night. I was restless, I had several dreams I no longer remember, and I could not get comfortable. I'll try to nap when the laubndry is finished.
-
Stella escaped while I was coming up from the laundry room, which is still a complete mess, but I was able to lure her back inside by rattling a bag of kitty bonito flakes which she loves. She and the other two devils have been quite rowdy this morning.
-
DR vixmom, I loved your story of the married couple and the therapist.
-
I hate to admit it, but I rarely listen to commentary for most movies I watch on DVD. I make an effort for most of the Criterion discs and movies I really like.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Did you hear the one about the traveling salesman?
-
:)
-
I am reticent, very reticent, at this moment.
-
DR elmore3003, my copy of Knowing Britten is supposed to have shipped. It was on backorder for quite a while.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished and the laundry is in the dryers. After all this activity, I needed to sit down for a bit before I head back to the basement.
-
DR elmore3003, my copy of Knowing Britten is supposed to have shipped. It was on backorder for quite a while.
I enjoyed it so much that I bought Christopher's third Bottom book, and reread the fist two. I'm on Bottom Feeder now.
-
The laundry is folded but not put away. I need to make the bed and have a little lie down.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Those phoned-in group commentaries are (I think) antiquated, and usually awful.
One I remember being particularly disappointed in was for The Haunting (1963). Not that the participants weren't saying some worthy things. But it was so dry, and disconnected. (I don't mind a "live" commentator inserting a few recorded remarks from someone else when necessary, but it's got to be for something worthy, and be kept to a minimum.)
I do like a good one, though. The ones BK has either done himself or participated in are good examples, and there are others. I'd have to browse through my collection to come up with some, but they're definitely out there.
-
Alons, enfant de la patrie!
-
Well I can be here on Mondays and Wednesdays but on Fridays I go fishing.
-
OMG - well for me there is ONLY one DVD commentary worth the title and that is MR BK & Susan Gordon on BEGINNING OF THE END.
It is a MUST for any fan of that movie and indeed of MOVIE commentaries. That is the textbook on HOW to do a commentary.
THE END.
THE LIVING END.
-
I have a day off!
Last night I was at the box office at 5 p.m to NOT sell tickets for Pillow Talk since there aren't any left. But I did sell 10 tickets for JOSEPH/DREAMCOAT.
-
I stayed to handle the will-call and refreshments until curtain time.
Sold stuff at intermission....and then cleaned up the theatre - with the help of Sandi, my dependable partner.
-
Well my cousin who is/was in Pillow Talk fell down backstage last Thursday.....a CT scan Monday revealed no brain damage or concussion. She is having an MRI today......her husband thinks she tore a muscle in her leg.....
The DIRECTOR is now "playing" all three of HER roles - even though he has had plenty of time to recast - but of course he is glorying in attention..... OH WELL.
-
I do now have a full cast...Ric a board member volunteered to take a role....so I moved young Cameron to Issachar and put Ric in as Jacob.....
-
There are many commentaries that I dislike - or hate as the case may be.
But I guess the worst is on the DVD of the 1953 version of TITANIC. Robert Wagner is dropped in....Audrey Dalton is dropped in....and Titanic "expert" Silvia Stoddard declares that the reason that the character is not named BRUCE ISMAY is because he was still living when the movie was made.
I am NOT a Titanic expert, but I know that Bruce Ismay kicked the bucket in Ireland in 1937.
-
Honorable mention to MR BK & Cindy Williams on THE CREATURE WASN'T NICE.
-
Moving on.....
-
From Vixmom:
I called for an appointment and the X-ray van will be at my home next Tuesday at 1
:o
That is convenient.
-
John I am sorry your mother's birthday dining experience was difficult.
-
Fed Ex just picked up the two cartons.
Yesterday, I called Fed Ex to tell them to have the pickup bring a dolly since one carton was 21x27x6 and the pther was 15x12x10. So the driver got here, rang my buzzer over and over and over till I got to it. When I got to the buzzer - I move very slowly at the best of times - there was no one there.
Then my phone rang while I was at the door checking to see if anyone was coming up on the elevator. The answering machine picked up by the time I got to the phone and the caller hung up and I'm thinking WTF?
-
So he calls back and asks where the packages are. I tell him they're on three. I ask, did you bring a dolly?
He rides up to three and steps off the elevator. He's like 6'5" tall and looks about 20 and he has no dolly. He's not wearing Fed Ex clothes and tells me it's his first week. I ask where his dolly is and he tells me it's downstairs. My first reaction is football brain injury.
-
Then I ask him, you're not dressed like a Fed Ex so how do I know you are? and he shows me his Fed Ex device and I show him where on the instructions it says "bring a dolly!" I also told him he needs to wait until someone old who can't can get to a buzzer. I wished him luck on the job and went back inside.
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
Crazy busy day so far.
-
I don’t listen to audio commentaries while watching a movie. I don’t mind separate interviews, but I don’t like voices overlapping the dialogue on screen. I really have only listened to a few of Robert Altman’s commentaries. I especially don’t like critics or people unassociated with the movie blathering on. The worst have been the audios on film noir.
-
Elmore, good thinking on asking the Fed Ex guy for ID.
-
Elmore, good thinking on asking the Fed Ex guy for ID.
Exactly!
-
Well, the office move is happening. ::)
-
I keep telling myself that it'll be fine...and it will!
-
Eventually. :-\
-
But as Violet said in the movie 9 to 5, "I'm a tree. I can bend."
;D
-
I hope when the FedEx man came back upstairs that DR ELMORE said:
-
Hello, Dolly!
-
OMG, DR Elmore.
Good for you for putting him through his paces. Maybe he learned a little bit today.
Holy moley.
-
Vixmom, excellent jokes.
I will be SURE to tip my waiter!

Ridgefield Theater Barn, one of our 100- (give or take) seat houses, has a very active kids' training program. Local resident Harvey Fierstein came by to run their Broadway classroom today, armed with video clips and great stories.
-
That's Anya over on the left, a wonderful singer/actress who was our Fräulein Kost in Cabaret and a member of the Smorgasbord! quartet. (This is where we played the latter.) She'll also be returning in this year's Wreck the Halls.

Wow!

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep, e-mails answered, and stuff done. I did a little B'way World interview: https://www.broadwayworld.com/los-angeles/article/BWW-Interview-Kritzerlands-Multi-Talented-Bruce-Kimmel-A-Man-Wearing-Many-Hats-20210714

That's so cool, ChasSmith!

Wonderful photo, DR ChasSmith!

Some time ago, the romping kitties lost a Netflix DVD. I took the place apart looking for it, and I finally told Netflix I'd lost it. They charged my account for the lost item. About six months later, I found it lying on the floor one morning, returned it, and they refunded my charge.
Well, this morning two Netflix DVDs and a few other discs were lying on the floor, but I cannot find the third Netflix disc that came in Monday's mail that was sitting with the other two.

That was great, BK! Not much new info for us Hainsies and Kimlets, but it's always nice to see that we're not your only fans. :)
-
That is indeed a great photo. Not mine, though, I wasn't there - I'm sad to say!

Don't you HATE it when that happens?? :o

Interview read and enjoyed!
When I read the date of July 28th for the upcoming show, I started to reach for my calendar -- then remembered. Sad, very sad. :)
-
It's the OLD normal. :)
-
I'm so glad to hear that they're rebooting Sex and the City with the exact original cast!
-
Ha!
-
:))
-
Back from lunch meeting at Vitello's - fun. Picked up no packages, stopped at Rite Aid and got more cherry chip ice cream. I had carbonara for lunch - a really small portion, I must say - couldn't be over four ounces of pasta and it seemed to be more oil based than cream based. If there was cream it was only a tablespoon or so - so I can't imagine the whole thing was any more than 500 calories, since eight ounces is 700.
-
Listening to the Beach Boys - I've had these Japanese mini-LP CDs for fifteen years, I'd imagine, and never once listened to them.
-
They really were pushing pop recording in an amazing way.
-
DR George - hope your move today wasn't too unnerving.
-
:)
-
We removed all of our cancelled activities from our calendar.
-
Yet, every morning when we turn on our computers we are reminded where we had planned to be.
-
What a great photo DR CHARLES SMITH.
Nice interview MR BK - I enjoyed reading about the Dinah Show in particular......but it was all nice.
-
DR Vixmom how was your day?
-
Watching The Miracle of Morgan's Creek which always makes me laugh.
I know many folks don't like Miss Betty Hutton movies....but I love her.....also love her recordings.
And of course William Demarest to Diana Lynn:
"Someday all they're gonna find of you is an ax and a hair ribbon: 'The mystery of Morgan's Crick....."
-
I'm glad you have a night off, DR Jrand70.

Watching it, too. Great, great fun.
-
I like Betty Hutton :)
-
When her brother (EF) talks, people listen.
-
Or so I heard.
-
Good night, friends.
-
'night
-
Good night, all.
-
DR George - hope your move today wasn't too unnerving.
Thanks, Singdaw...it actually wasn't too traumatic.
-
Now, I just need to purge...a lot. ::)
;)
-
Stop purging and post already. Page THREE?
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Tomorrow, my sister's boyfriend and I are driving my mom to the airport.
-
While Larry parks the car, I'll go in with my mom in case she needs any help until I can't go past a certain point.
-
She's going to Spokane to visit her friend Margita that we met in Germany when my dad and Margita's then husband were in the army.
-
We lived in the same stairwell in the army housing, and our families became friends.
-
Margita and her then-husband eventually moved to Spokane, and my parents moved here to Lacey, and mom and Margita stayed in contact and friends all these years.
-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
While Larry parks the car, I'll go in with my mom in case she needs any help until I can't go past a certain point.
I just noticed...Larry Parks! :D
-
A joke variation: While Gracie cooks and Larry Parks, George Burns!
-
Just remember, NO GROANING!!
-
So, my mom's going to visit Margita in Spokane for a few days, butcshe's not flying back.
-
My mom, Margita, and Margita's friend Laura will all drive back.
-
I think it's only a six or seven hour drive.
-
One of Margita's sons lives here in Olympia, so they'll visit him while they're here.
-
What's funny is that ANY time Margita would come here to visit my parents or even just her son, she has only stayed with my parents!
-

Yes, I am sure that Harvey has some fascinating video clips!
-
Gratuitous Post #100!
-
So, we're meeting at my mom's house at 10:00 in the morning, then I'll go in to work after I get back.
-
Then I'll stay at her place and watch her cat on Friday and Saturday nights...my niece will deal with the other nights that mom will be gone.
-
We lived in the same stairwell in the army housing, and our families became friends.
You lived in a stairway? That must have been comfortable.

I could never stand William Demarest, but I would rather watch a Demarest film festival, than one Betty Hutton film.
-
Although, I have always regretted not going into the city to see her play Miss Hannigan in ANNIE.
-
While Larry parks the car, I'll go in with my mom in case she needs any help until I can't go past a certain point.

I hope he didn’t wear blackface to the airport.

Walking?

Fortunately, not. That would to much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) too long!

Time is running out, George.
-
And so am I.
-
Oh, no!
-
Tempus fugit
-
We must reach five of the pages.
-
Quickly!

Tempus fugit

Cloudy day today.
-
Even cooler tomorrow.
-
One more to go.

Cloudy day today.
When I walked to Meconi's at around 2:00, it was quite nice, and there were very few clouds in the sky.

Today, I received the laserdisc of Bernstein conducting Candide that I bought on eBay.

It was a sealed copy!

So, are we going to do an LA get-together? I think we should, and perhaps it should coincide with the Kritzerland eleventh anniversary show in September.

I gotta tell you.
