Well, you've read the notes, the notes led the way but in a good way, and now it is time for you to post until the L.A. cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OMNISCIENT!
-
Decided to listen to the nine symphonies of Malcolm Arnold - seriously wonderful stuff. If you love his film music, there's no way not to love these. There are, amazingly, three sets of the complete symphonies - one on Naxos that I know I'd hate, sound-wise, one on Chandos - I had several of those issues and hated the sound - and this box from Sony of the Arnold Conifer recordings with Vernon Handley, which is what you want. I got my set for twenty bucks (eleven CDs) about five or six years ago on Amazon. There's only one copy available now - for $500! But search Discogs - they'll probably have one for a reasonable price.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
If anyone ever says to DR George, "You're just going through a phase," he can retort:
"Yeah.... PHASE 10!"
-
What a lovely thing you did for your friend yesterday, DR vixmom. I always enjoy your adventures and the way you tell them.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR vixmom, what a day! And your good deeds were rewarded with the Dept of Labor phone call. I hope that everything proceeds smoothly.
-
:)
I loved the two cartoons yesterday, especially Catmart.
-
I'm moving slowly this morning, although I did sleep wqell last night.
-
I am not sure what's on today's agenda. Very little, I hope. It's too warm.
-
Good morning, all.
-
How may I ignore you?
-
DR VIXMOM that was nice of you!!!!
Glad to hear about your call from the DOL.....onward and upward and be sure you count your change.
-
Big loud drenching thunderstorms on the way to the theatre last night.
After intermission, the bookkeeper came to pick up the money. She and my friend Sandi who was working with me told me to go home because a storm was ten minutes away. They didn't want me to drive 35 miles in another barn burner. Sandi said she would ask someone else to help her sweep the house, etc.
It's really amazing what a little bit of kindness can do....
-
So I got home before the rain started - it was behind me chasing me all the way.....it started up about ten minutes after I pulled into my driveway.
-
I don't have to go back until Sunday when there are auditions for YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.
-
YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU.
There's a part in that play for just about everyone! Love it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm about to head out for my six-month checkup at the dermatologist's.
-
And today's our hottest day of the week, should be going a little over 90. Then we should be more comfortable again for a while.
-
So, big news:
I told DR Elmore last week that this just might happen.
The Fantasticks is cancelled. At least for this season. We couldn't completely cast it with those who turned out to audition, and there were some unresolvable date conflicts among too many people.
We'd already moved our deadline a couple of times, and had to call time of death on this one. We should already have been in at least vocal rehearsals by now, and I am frankly relieved. We were teetering on the brink of disaster.
Everyone involved still wants to see this come about, maybe even next year. But the audition turnout in the region has been horrible for a few years now, and not just for musicals. The new prevailing attitude, from the theater board to the director and yrs truly, is rapidly becoming: F**k it -- from now on, we're pre-casting everything.
-
I'm sorry, DR ChasSmith.
I guess, in this case, it's for the best.
-
I'm with you DR CHAS SMITH.....it's been terrible this year.
DR singdaw is right You Can't Take It With You does have parts for everyone! And believe you me - folks will come out of the woodwork. Especially folks who shouldn't be allowed in a theatre unless they buy tickets - and even then only conditionally.

From DR George:
Good! We need that reinstated here in Washington. My sister's boyfriend told me today that two counties in eastern Washington have the highest new Covid rates of pretty much anywhere on the west coast! :o
:(
It is frustrating as I doubt this would have happened if people could have been checked for proof of vaccination.
-
DR Singdaw vibes you are able to continue working from home!
-
DR Vixmom great news on the progress with your unemployment benefits. Vibes it won't be much longer now.
-
That was one lucky young man to have Vixmom help him with his lease, etc. today.

That was very kind and thoughtful of them.

And obviously they were correct about your need to leave :)

From Bruce:
Yep, leave it to our idiot mayor to do this crap. EVERY case that's caused the rise involves people who aren't vaccinated. There is not a shred of evidence that those people have infected anyone who's vaccinated, but they try to infer that that's the case. There were 180 deaths of fully vaccinated people from Covid, but as always here they don't tell us if the Covid was actually the cause, which I'm quite certain in most cases would prove to not be the cause, nor do they ever report about false positives. And perhaps someone can explain why, as far as I've seen, we are the only city anywhere to do this. I'm FURIOUS. And of course the CDC has said nothing about this at all and CA is notorious for making it up as they
Stats on all this would be helpful, and what percentage of people with covid were vaccinated, or which variant they have. True, being vaccinated will most likely keep you out of the hospital, but it doesn't mean you can't catch it from an unvaccinated person.
-
Bryan caught it in Milwaukee, not at work. He does not know if it was the Delta variant or not. He is fine now and anxious to get back to work as missed work means no salary.
He also missed holding his kid.

No -- nor was I in favor of going for an alternate in this crunch of time. But we're all serious about this and we'll be talking about scheduling it for 2022.
-
Looking for an alternate show with small cast is exactly how we wound up with I Do! I Do! four years ago. But we had the right cast for it just two phone calls away, and I had a decent partner to share the 2-piano duties with. So that one came together well, and fast. I believe that kind of lightning didn't have any conceivable way of striking this time.
-
Dan Shaheen called the theater a couple of weeks ago, asking about our intentions and making sure MTI had sent the most up to date materials. (They had; they seem to be much more [see what I did there??] on top of this one than has sometimes happened in the past.) He also told us he has some set pieces, props, and costumes from Broadway in storage, and offered us the use of whatever we'd like from that.
We of course inquired about Tom Jones, and Dan said that at his age now, it might not be possible to expect him to come down to see the show, but that he would keep it in mind and address it when the time comes. He looked like a million dollars when he was there four years ago, but we know that once you're in your 90s, things are going to slow down on you, and we only wish him the best.
-
I just read an article that mentions unvaccinated hot spots in the US. It said only 48% of residents in Milwaukee County have been fully vaccinated.
-
George, Washington wasn't mentioned at all.
-
George Washington wasn't, either.
-
Far from keto: a neighbor of Mom’s brought over vine-ripened tomatoes. It’s open-faced tomato sandwiches for lunch. Tomato, mayo, French bread, dill.

The flood scenes in Germany, Belgium and elsewhere in Europe has been depressing.
-
Well for our 2022 season - The Odd Couple is out and The Miracle Worker is in......
I kept saying who is going to direct it? [We had an atrocious production a decade or so ago that had water ALL OVER THE STAGE and the theatre floor because the dumb bell wanted the audience to "feel & experience" the moment as Helen does.....
That no one seems to want to direct it doesn't seem to bother anyone......and of course that's how we ended up with Pillow Talk - The Experiment.....

Fresh ground pepper and a nice Himalayan or sea salt, too?
-
I am looking forward to sampling Schmigadoon! this weekend.
-
That is all.
-
I think DR Laura would enjoy it.
-
DR JANE you are correct - it was very nice of them to let me leave early.
I messaged them both again this morning to say thanks.
-
I shall look forward to the SCHMIGADOON report....right now I am on the schmence about it.
-
I think most us would enjoy it, Singdaw. Or at least express an interest on it.
-
And I await the report.
-
Where is it? No report yet. I’m going to alert PayPal.

George Washington wasn't, either.
;D

Very sad indeed. I am shocked at the number of deaths.

I am drooling over a recipe I just saw online for savory zucchini feta muffins.

I guess that's what makes horse racing. ^^^^^^^^

What the HELL? :)

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep. Got to bed VERY late.
-
I have no interest in Schmigadoon - for those who own my short story compendium, just read Opening Out of Town. Same basic premise, although a completely different reason for it, which is a lot better than what these people have done. Yes, I had this idea over thirty years ago - written as a spec script for Amazing Stories, which went off the air before it was even read, then we thought about doing it as a short film, and then I just adapted it as a short story.

DR Jrand70 - are butterscotch blondies more up your alley?

Hello, everyone.
-
I think Olympia Little Theatre does it the same way (or maybe used to)...they'd pick their season, and then ask for directors. Weird way to do it, if you ask me.
-
BK called me last night to remind me, i think, of my posting duties as a HHW member. We threw the togas aside long ago (remember those?), but posts are still expected. I have definitely lapsed in my post-reading, so forgive me for not being up to date.
-
What I do know is that Jane and Keith's car was damaged by an irresponsible parker when they were starting a road trip. What a bummer! Gawd! Vibes for a satisfactory repair if that has not been accomplished.
-
I was very impressed with Vixmom's lease-review-and-move-in service. Maybe there's a business opportunity there -- at least the lease review part.
-
DoL vibes for Vixmom.
-
Larry, I am envious! You got rid of so many cartons! I need to get rid of more here, but it takes a long time to go through it all. I don't look forward to it.
-
I put my car in the shop yesterday. It was sluggish and I was imagining $$$. I lucked out. The mechanic checked everything out and all he found was a dirty air filter, which he said could have caused it. It's definitely better now. But my two Uber rides cost almost as much as the repair. $27 to travel just a few miles? ($40 total.) I didn't want to wait in the shop for several hours. It's still a good deal overall.

Hi, John G. I take it you're now in Louisville. How long to you expect to stay?

I wouldn't want that either-lol

Today we are supposed to be in Monterey with friends.
-
We did get the estimate on the repairs. Hopefully the insurance company will quickly approve it.

Yes, still a good deal and better than sitting and waiting.
-
Uber has become a sad joke. It was a noble thing when it began and very cost friendly. Now it's just stupid.

Why has no one ever asked Mandy Patinkin to play Erik Satie?

Then I'll be right over!

DR Jennifer, Canada is looking very good right now.
"There’s no country that’s more like the United States than Canada, its neighbor to the north. But as the hyper-contagious Delta variant spreads — and as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations start to rise among unvaccinated Americans in state after state — a key difference between the two countries has emerged.
With nearly 70 percent of its population now at least partially vaccinated, Canada is well on its way to reaching herd immunity. The U.S. — which has stalled out around 56 percent — is not."

Antal Dorati? I think I ordered that at a small sidewalk cafe in Rome.

Or was....
-
Good night, friends.
-
Thank you all for the vibes
-
Today was a day of phone calls
-
Vixdad connected with a human at INS today
-
A sympathetic person
-
He promised to have someone call back by Wednesday or Thursday to arrange an appointment for his green card extension
-
I was so relieved I started to cry and the man heard me
-
We had his call on speaker
-
Then Vixdad asked if we could contact his supervisor to thank him for his help
-
He said well he actually she’s right here
-
And passed the phone over
-
So Vixdad expressed his profound thanks for the real assistance and comfort provided
-
Then I heard from firmer DR William F Orr
-
He needed the services of a notary, which I was happy to provide
-
I was even happier to have to have the opportunity to visit with WFO and his hubby Joe
-
We haven’t seen each other since before the Vixter wedding
-
While we were visiting my phone rang several times
-
I had explained I was keeping an eye out for job application responses
-
So they weren’t insulted when the phone rang and I saw the name of the caller and immediately answered and walked out to the foyer
-
It was the follow up call from the Dept of Labor
-
My ID has been verified and they are working on removing the fraudulent information from the computers and processing my claim
-
He made an appointment to call me back at 1:00 next week
-
On Vixdad’s birthday
-
When I got home Vixdad told me he had received a call as well
-
INS made an appointment to interview him next week at 11:30
-
On his birthday
-
So thank you all
-
The patented HHW vibes have once again done their magic
-
Bill and Joey are doing well
-
Bill sends his regards
-
He has just purchased a computer and is still configuring it
-
I urged him to come back to visit
-
I am sorry to hear about your Fantasticks cancellation Chas
-
Jack I am glad you have such kind friends at the theatre
-
BK I am sorry about the mask mandates
-
It’s a shame selfish morons are causing this pandemic to stretch out forever
-
Jeanne nice to see you again
-
Thunderstorms have knocked out the power.
-
Nice story, Vixmom.
-
Welcome back, Jeanne.
-
Wonderful news, Vixmom!!
-
Bill and Joey are doing well
That's great! Thanks for the update!
-
I'm at my mom's and my niece won both games of Phase 10!
-
My mom got to Spokane without any trouble, and as expected when Margita and Margita's friend picked up my mom from the airport a little after 2:00 pm, they went directly to the local casino.
-
My mom finally called my sister when they left the casino...after 8:00! :o
-
A good time was had by all...I guess.
-
6!!!!!!
-
Yay for Vixmom's good day.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
I just read an article that mentions unvaccinated hot spots in the US. It said only 48% of residents in Milwaukee County have been fully vaccinated.
Three counties in Washington (Eastern I believe) that have vaccination rates of between 25 and 30%.

Unless you have a cast and a director who truly understand the material, the show can be a total disaster. When I played one of the mothers fathers it was pretty bad. We had people leaving the theater saying, “Gee, I don’t see what is so great about that show.”
-
The fathers were the best thing in the production. They should be a highlight, but they shouldn’t be the only good in the show.

And El Gallo shouldn't be as young as the lovers. ::)
