Well, you've read the notes, the notes were damn exasperating, and now it is time for you to post until the damn exasperating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERKLEMPT!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I'm quite sleepy this morning, so I'm going to nap for a bit.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Thanks for the interesting links last night, DR George.
-
DR TCB, that survey you mentioned doesn't surprise me at all. I fell pretty pessimistic that way myself most of the time these days. Not so much in the country, but in my fellow citizens. Which ARE the country.
-
:)
-
That soup sounds divine, DR John G.!

~~~FINDING A REPLACEMENT VIBES~~~ for bk!!!
-
I guess one drawback to going back to live Kritzerland shows is that the talent pool is limited a lot more by who is in the LA environs. Is there a way you could do a video "drop in" performance, projected on a screen?
-
We, actually, got out of the house on Monday and went to a restaurant. No masks.
Aside from doctor appointments and going to the market or the drug story, I hadn't been out of the house for over a year.
-
I napped for about an hour, got up, did kitty cleanup, and then decided to upgrade my Mac. It should be finished in around eight hours!
-
I've been reading the new Al Hirschfeld biography. I was very lucky to meet him around 1995 or so. He had agreed to sign copies of his latest book, and Arthur Seelen, the owner of the Drama Book Shop, and I went to his house on East 85th(?) Street, had a lovely visit, and returned to the shop with a lot of signed books.
-
Good morning!
-
Finding the replacement vibes for MR BK.
-
I'll watch it one more time - but after that, I'm cutting the dance.
Miss Know Everything is teaching it backstage - so the poor ladies in the cast are stuck in the middle between her ludicrous interpretation and what I have told them to do....they are so confused and nervous, they don't know if they're walking or riding a bicycle.
So - it's cut.
-
Sad but necessary since she won't shut her damned mouth. I hope she enjoys her first show/SWAN SONG here at the theatre.
-
I’m glad you enjoyed a night of freedom. I’m going back to wearing the masks. I don’t need even a mild case of this.
Nice. Been a big fan for a long time. Is the bio good?
I think my first Hirschfeld encounter was in grade school. We were given the drawing he did of Barbra in roller skates for the movie of Funny Girl. It explained the Ninas and told a little about him.
-
Diva deliverance vibes for JRand.
-
Going tonight to Shakespeare in the Park. We started going back in 1975, when I started reading Shakespeare. My favorite actor in the company is still acting with them after all these years. That’s some run.
-
As I said before. It ain’t Shakespeare. It’s Shakespeare in Love. I hope to catch their other production, Henry V.
-
Why don't you simply sack her?
I'm enjoying it.
I've been outside mowing, and now I'm taking a break with a turkey, swiss and avocado sandwich and a cup of Sumatra coffee, made strong. In a little while, some weed whacking.
-
I haven't been able to work outside for a couple of weeks, because it's either sweltering or raining. Take your pick. I'm literally sneaking this much in.
Ooooh that sandwich sounds lovely
Diva deliverance vibes for JRand.
Sometimes that applies equally well for DR Elmore. :)
-
What, in someone's upbringing, causes them to be so utterly self-absorbed and CLUEless?
-
I ask you.
The DH and I are flying to the East Coast on Saturday for a family week. I have watched one too many of these air passenger tirade videos for comfort. I sincerely hope we don't encounter any of this behavior during our trip. These miscreants should be placed immediately on a permanent no-fly ban.
And that's aside from our trepidation about the Delta variant.
From DR TCB:
Here is something I would really like to hear others opinions.
The other day on the news they said they had taken a survey of college students. The question was, “Are you proud to be an American?”
Only 38% percent said they were proud. That seems very strange to me.
In today's world, make sense to me :(
-
Vibes of comfort to DR Jrand.
-
From Bruce:
Sometimes it smells like cigarette smoke in here. How is that possible?
Odd. Is this something new or ever since you have lived there?
-
From George:
Here's an America's Test Kitchen video on The Foolproof Way to Make Boiled Corn on the Cob.
Much easier is just putting the unhusked corn into the microwave. In ours it is 4 minutes for one corn & 6.5 minutes for two. The husk is easier to remove after cooking the corn.
I am sorry but it seems like the best solution, though a shame you can't simply cut the obnoxious woman.
We drove in the car without masks last night which I was ok with.
It wasn't until after we walked into the restaurant that I thought about putting a mask on. Fortunately it wasn't crowded and we didn't need them.
Be safe from covid and rude people vibes!
DR Vixmom, multiple vibes for everything!
-
I am done for the day. That's all they're getting out of me, damn it. Damn it to HELL.
Now I need to cool down, take a cleansing and cooling shower, and get comfortable and relax for the rest of the day. I shall watch a movie or two from the watch pile.
So, it turns out there's more electrical work to be done, following what happened to cause our power outage a few weeks ago. I saw a truck out there the other day and it looked like these guys were examining my neighbor's driveway where the trouble was, and I asked about it.
What they did that day to get us up and running was patch the underground cables in a couple of spots. But they determined that the entire cable running underground from the street to the electrical junction box for our two houses needed to be replaced -- and, I believe, either a new underground pipe put in, or maybe there had been no pipe at all and now they're adding it. So today they're out there with an excavator digging about three feet down and laying the pipe. It takes quite a while, partly because this is extremely rocky country, and I don't know if they'll even get that phase done today.
This all takes place in the neighbor's driveway, not ours. What I still don't know is if they need to do anything with the underground cables running from the junction box to our two houses. They've marked where our underground lines are, all the way to the house, which makes me think there could be more fun and excitement to be had in the near future. But..... we'll see.
Today it's been a year since we had to say goodbye to Poe.
It doesn't even feel like a year has gone by since the Summer of Covid, and the still-new masking and distancing procedures we all went through with the visiting vet that day.
I don't post this looking for expressions of sympathy or anything, but it certainly has been on our minds this past week. And when I thought about it this morning, it didn't seem right not to say something to commemorate it. So there it is, and I'll go up to his gravesite in a bit to sit for a moment.
In more cheerful and actually astounding news, I just got a reply from the note I had sent to Graeter's in Cincinnati regarding the Mystery of the Cheese Crowns.
I had seen nothing about them when I last searched, and then DR Ginny found a PDF takeout menu that listed them. I finally wrote to them asking what was up. Some time went by, and I had forgotten about it, then this suddenly popped into my in-box:
Hi Charles!
Thank you so much for reaching out. I am not sure who informed you that the cheese crowns were no longer being made, but I can assure you that these are one of our most popular bakery items, and are sent to our bakery stores every day.
I'm not sure what store you normally go to when you are here in Cincinnati, but that maybe where the confusion came in. Over the last year with Covid, we did have a few stores that used to carry bakery stop, and now are only Ice cream stores.
I hope this helps!
We look forward to your return to Cincinnati for some delicious cheese crowns!
That's just so weird because I was investigating it on their website while I was right there in town, and there was no mention of them. In Googling, I then found others asking about them and being told that they'd been discontinued. Bizarre. But what a great relief to hear this news.
-
I was in a Graetet’s on Saturday and resisted the urge. I did bring Mom a pint of peach.
-
What I haven't had in years is their ice cream. I'll have to rectify that situation on my next trip out there.
Saying goodbye and grieving is always hard, during covid it has to be much worse.
To my knowledge I have never had Graeter's or Cheese Crown's, however, DR Chas I am glad your your good news.
It is extremely hazy here today with smoke from the Canadian wildfires.
-
:(
-
I have heard the smoke from the West Coast is traveling to the East Coast.
I forgot to comment on DR singdaw's link about Dover Publications having shut down. That came as quite a shock because the fact that they actually went out of business a year ago had flown right by me. Yet another heretofore unimaginable change in our culture.
Sadly, there will be no new Dover scores coming down the pike, but I'm glad to read that the existing ones are still on the market. But I wonder for how long, and you better believe I'll take a close look to see what I might still want. I've got a number of their symphonic and operatic full scores, along with a few other things, that have been absolute godsends. I shall view them henceforth with a higher level of appreciation.
We had a brief but extremely loud and wet thunder storm a while ago
Oh, you meant…
So far, none have come over us, and I'm hoping it stays that way. We really need a couple more dry days. Please?
-
I received a very nice email from the place I interviewed on Monday saying they decided to go another way
-
Which is fine because I had no plans to go their way
-
But it was nice if them to let me know
-
No word from the first place
-
Well I’m in the middle of cleaning our closets
Perhaps several lifetimes
REPLACEMENT VIBES FOR BRUCE!
-
Wednesday evening greetings! We had a lovely day, driving east from Columbus into the Appalachian foothills. Our destination was a paper crafting shop in New Concord, OH, which is also the home of Muskingum University. That’s niece Rev. Amy’s alma mater, so we drove around a bit and sent her some photos.
-
I have heard the smoke from the West Coast is traveling to the East Coast.
Indeed it is, DR Jane. We first noticed the effects in last night’s sunset and today was very hazy.
-
Richard’s wish was granted when we stopped for lunch at Cracker Barrel in Zanesville. He had chicken and dumplings and I had a chef’s salad.
-
We made our way back to the Columbus ‘burbs by way of the now-defunct Longaberger headquarters (the famous basket building), a drive through the campus of Denison University, and some wild rush hour traffic on the Columbus beltway.
-
No word from the first place
I hope that means they haven't decided yet vs being rude.
They had more than 40 applicants , so they may still be interviewing but I suspect they found someone they liked better.
I understand that I may not be anyone’s first choice these days because of my age, why spend time training someone and incorporating them into your crew just for them to walk away in a couple of years
-
The company has had its ups and downs and is being “relaunched” by the daughters of its founder.
DR Jane, thanks for posting the photo of the basket building. It’s not as spiffy today, but at least it’s still standing.
-
I thought the grounds around it were lovely and it seemed like a good location for a hotel.
This post, Jane? "Another wonderful review that captures the essence of the book." - That's not exactly YOUR opinion. What did YOU think?
Good Evening - spent most of my day catching up on my online class I'm taking for school - It's a religion training class - 6 weeks long. I was 2 weeks behind, but nothing is deemed "late" so I'm good. I'm just not a student, really never have been. Just signed into the weekly chat. Send help LOL
-
Good luck DR Matthew. Your class sounds very boring to me-lol
Mmmm chicken and dumplings
-
Chicken and dumplings sounds really good right now.
-
The evening was perfect. No mosquitoes. A cool evening under the trees. The theater almost as I remembered it being.
-
Shakespeare in Love was fine. The charm of the movie was somewhat lost, but the production worked because the actors weren’t trying to be like the movie, except for the actress playing Judi Dench playing Queen Elizabeth.
-
The actor I was looking for, Monte Priddy, didn’t do a curtain call and he only had three scenes. But he made the most of them. Turns out this is his 60th year with the company. He started in 1961.
-
And that’s all I’ve got.
-
Good night, all.
-
Well, my mom got home from Spokane safely today.
-
She said that the plane that she was on when she went to Spokane was a propeller plane, but on her trip back to Seattle, it was a larger jet.
-
Chas, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
-
I lost Nicky during the pandemic. It made everything very strange.
-
Of course, there is never a good time to say goodbye to your baby.
Yup. I feel your pain. :(
-
Well, I thank the three people you responded.
-
I know how BK feels on most Wednesdays!
-
My mom called me this evening after I had been home for about an hour asking, wasn't I supposed to come over tonight?? :o
-
SPOO!! I told my sister that I was going to go over to my mom's after work and I totally forgot...dopey me. ::)
-
So, I'll just over on Friday, like usual for our Phase 10 playing.
-
My sister and niece went over there when she got home, and they all ordered pizza, and they ordered one for me.
-
It'll have to wait until Friday, and I'm sure it'll still be good.
-
I don't mind leftover pizza...especially when it's reheated in real oven and not a microwave oven. :)
-
And we can add some extra cheese so that it seems like a fresh pizza.
-
So, how was your day today, Tom?
-
Quiet.
-
What's going on?
-
What's the haps?
-
Quiet.
That's not always a bad thing. ;D
-
I gotta tell you.
-
6!!!!!!
-
Today was the day they pressure-washed our condos.
-
Today was the day they pressure-washed our condos.
Hopefully, it all went well. When they did that throughout my condo complex a few years ago in preparation for repainting all the buildings, there were some areas where the siding was so weak that they had to replace it because the pressure washing actually damaged it.
-
The condo board actually knew that that might happen, so they were kind of prepared for it.
-
I'd like to pressure wash all these singers who are so busy they don't want to perform.
-
They do half the complex every year, so we get it done every other year.
-
Have Kevin give Barbra a call. I am sure she is available.
Is Jason doing this show?
-
I don't know how often it's done here, but I just remember that there was some damage from the pressure washing before they painted.
