Well, you've read the notes, the notes were melodic, and now it is time for you to post until the melodic cows come home.

And the word of the day is: CRUCIVERBALIST!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.

Topic of the Day:
Finding Dory
Finding Nemo
Private Benjamin
I think these are all the movies that he's been in that I've seen. ::)

Good morning, all!
-
I should have begun the laundry by now, but I'm not moving yet. When the alarm rang this morning, I turned it off and went back to sleep for 45 minutes. The cats were not amused.
-
Last night we watched the director's cut of The Creature Wasn't Nice. I enjoyed it and laughed quite a lot. I had seen Naked Space, which I did not care for at all, so I was pleasantly surprised by what the movie should have been.
-
Die Meistersinger, Tannhauser, and The Flying Dutchman are the only Wagner operas I truly like, with Lohengrin and the Ring Cycle limping along. Except for The Flying Dutchman, which is nicely paced, they're al;l too damned long. I saw a wonderful ghostly and rather frightening production of the Dutchman at City Opera around 2003. It was really good.

Today, in 2008 - it was a Thursday - after a summer of nausea, excessive urination, cramps, thirst, and too many x-rays, tests, scams, and other treatments from an idiot incompetent HMO "care practitioner" who should have been put to pasture years before, I learned that I was a diabetic. I had been to a birthday party the night before and several guests, upon hearing my symptoms, said "You're diabetic."
-
So the next morning I made an appointment to see my incompetent doctor assigned by my HMO. I asked if I might be diabetic, and he tested my blood sugar level. He looked at the results, and after a long pause, he said, "You must go at once to an ER for insulin." I went home, sent an email to a lot of people about where I was going - I think I posted here, too - and took a bus to St Luke;s at 114th and Amsterdam, afraid I was dying.
-
That was around 4:00. They immediately put me on an IV of insulin, and I was on IV's until just before midnight. Former DR Jose came up to stay with me and bought his new Smart Phone. To add insult to injury, my idiot doctor never answered his phone to the many calls the ER doctors made to him that night. I still believe the HMO finally sacked the bastard.
-
Thinking back on that day thirteen years ago, I realized that was his third strike against me:
1. Spring 1999, I had balance problems and trouble with my right foot dragging. He put me through x-rays, scans, various tests all summer, and into autumn as I worsened and could no longer use my hands. He finally sent me in late October for an MRI, which discovered two crushed discs in my neck causing all my problems. I had surgery the first week of December, followed by six weeks of hand therapy and physical therapy.
2. In 2003, he misdiagnosed an abscess as a boil, lanced it, and put me on antibiotics. The antibiotics may have irritated the perianal abscess, which grew to the size of a tennis ball before blowing up in the middle of the night. I awoke covered in blood and other fluids. I had surgery to repair the damage twice in late 2003 and spring 2004.

Wow! DR ELMORE!
-
Maybe you should sing a chorus of "I'm Still Here."
-
A little cooler here today.
Thanks DR VIXMOM - it was a nice birthday!
LOL DR TCB - time will tell......
-
Maybe you should sing a chorus of "I'm Still Here."
We could make it a duet!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Wow, Elmore. Just wow.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I am still doing Noom. As of this morning, I am down 61 pounds.
-
Holy... um, cow, DR Elmore. I never heard or knew about any of that. Of course I wasn't here back in those years either. But that is one HELL of a scary story.
-
It is supposed to be stormy here this afternoon.
-
Incredible, DR singdaw. Absolutely incredible. Congratulations.
-
It is SO DAMNED NICE having "normal" weather back today. Totally comfortable.
-
That's a pretty scary list, DR elmore3003.
-
Thanks, DR ChasSmith! A long ways to go yet.

My one experience with Die Meistersinger is seeing the Met's production in - I think - the early or mid-1990s. Incredible stage design, and incredible singing and orchestra. Unfortunately, I didn't know it until about 30 minutes into the first act, but I was coming down with a head cold and began feeling sniffly and drowsy. During the second act I literally began dozing off, and while I was blown away by what I was hearing and seeing, I knew I wouldn't make it through the third. I sheepishly gave it up and didn't finish the marathon. But that music is outta sight.

Saturday morning greetings! Better hit “post” quick or it will be afternoon!

The laundry is finished. I lost a sock.
-
The basement was very warm and very humid. I will lie down with Thatch and Stella for a while before I put things away. The AC and a couple of cool fans can work wonders, I hear.

I lost one way back when Rob and Mary Linda still lived upstairs and it was found 2 weeks ago when the washer and dryer were pulled away from the wall for our basement work.

Richard and I were in town when this happened and were pleased that a day or 2 later you felt up to dinner at Artie’s:

DR John, good vibes for a wonderful bidding war on the house.

I did, DR Jane, and now I have a pair!

I'm happy that Pen Farthing and his animals are boarded onto a cargo plane and ready to leave Kabul. I am so sorry that the Taliban would not let his Afghanistan staff leave as well, and I pray to God they will be safe in Kabul.

I love these photos of Mark Twain and his kittens!

TOD
This is bad, but I don't even know if I've seen any of the films of Albert Brooks. I am, however, happy to say that I have Lost in America here, and it has assumed its position on the watch pile.
-
I finally got a chance to sit down with the Tonight's the Night Blu-ray, and I was even happier than expected to see the Outside the Box episodes again. I chose a couple at random, but couldn't stop so I ended up watching them all. Then I had to run out, but I sampled BK's commentary on the last one with Marshall Harvey, and it's excellent. I will soon watch them all straight through again with that track on.
-
You may remember that several weeks ago I asked for vibes for my dear friend Peter Foley. The cancer got him, and he died yesterday morning at 8:30. I was lucky to know and love him for twenty years. We met in Spring 2001 at the new Packard Humanities Institute office on East 72nd Street when we were summoned by John McGlinn to explain the project. He worked as one of my music copyists through the PHI days and was indispensable to me during the period 2011-2013 on recording Roberta, Eileen, and Dearest Enemy. He then assisted me on several small projects, the last being the dreadfully inept Carnegie Hall Babes in Toyland concert two or threee years ago. I will miss him.
He was a wonderful husband and father to Kate and Grace, and my heart bleeds for them.

I am so sorry, DR elmore3003.

Very sorry to hear that.

For DR singdaw:
-
Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance day for those of us who have lost an animal we loved and miss.
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up at seven after three hours of sleep, back in bed at nine, so maybe I got seven hours of sleep. I don't think the Hollywood Show will be happening for me today. And now I'm dealing with a musical director who says he now can't do the anniversary show - his main gig is the Magic Castle. He gave them this date that he needed off weeks ago. And they booked him anyway. I told him he had to talk to them and make this right, but he just keeps saying they'll fire him, which they cannot. He's done this before - in fact, I had to rearrange the Group Rep show four times for him. Can't do it for this one, it's way too late in the game to find someone else, and I'm trying to hold in my annoyance right now because if I unleash and go to bad BK land HE will be as unhappy as I am.
-
Ugh....MR BK perhaps it is time to call my friend Paul Galloway.
-
Congrats to DR singdaw!
-
Sorry Bruce.
-
He's nuts, that's the bottom line. I don't think he's actually picked up the phone to even talk to the guy who schedules him. I've told him to do so three times and he simply hasn't. So, I said that it's up to him to find a replacement for us, to work with him and make sure that when he walks in here for our first rehearsal that he knows exactly what he's doing. This isn't MY fault but that seems not to matter. He thinks he has someone and that person has done one of our shows before but Richard is going to have to lend him the electric piano that transposes easily and teach him how to use it. I'm just furious and it's NOT what I needed. I was seconds away from pulling the plug and just ending the Kritzerland shows - would be a shame, but 114 shows is pretty good for a run.
-
Die Meistersinger has sung - all four-and-a-half hours plus. I really enjoyed it. So, I've now heard Tristan and Isolde, Meistersinger, and Lohengrin. I'll try one of elmore's suggestions next. I'm not sure I need to hear The Ring cycle.

~~~Musical Director Vibes for BK!!~~~
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Had In-N-Out for lunch - cheeseburger and fries. And just had about four ounces of pasta with butter and cheese for the evening snack.
-
This is probably the wrong evening for everyone to have taken a hike, oh, yes, this is probably the wrong evening for everyone to have taken a hike.
-
I didn't hike anywhere.
-
I'm ketchuping on my FB notifications, and watching some YouTube videos.
-
And chatting with a FB friend.
-
Today, I went to my sister's and helped her move some stuff in her garage to get it ready for a garage sale next weekend to benefit the Olympia chapter of PFLAG.
-
I'm going to go through my stuff and donate some things.
-
My sister's boyfriend got us all food from The Olympia Oyster House (https://olympiaoysterhouse.com/), a local restaurant that's been through several owners recently.
-
He got the family style cod fish & chips, which was eight pices of fish, a big box of fries, a box of cole slaw, and four rolls. :)
-
Even though the food wasn't piping hot when he got back to my sister's house, it all was real good!
-
However, when I dipped the fries in the tartar sauce, the sauce seemed to have lost its flavor...to me, at least.
-
It was quite tasty when I had some on the fish, but I could only taste the fries when I ate those with the tartar sauce.
-
Interesting.
-
My sister and Larry each only had one piece of fish, so I took home one of the two leftover fish and will hopefully have that sometime tomorrow.
George? Are you going to type?
-
Hi, Tom.
-
George? Are you going to type?
I just did. ;)
-
I did not even open the door today.
-
I left the cats alone yesterday.
-
So, today we just bonded.
-
When I wasn’t beating their little bare butts.
-
Okay, maybe I just threatened.
-
I watched a lot of TV today.
-
I watched golf.
-
So, today we just bonded.
Nice.
-
When I wasn’t beating their little bare butts.
:o
-
Then I watched COMPANY.
-
Okay, maybe I just threatened.
Whew!
-
;D
-
I thought it was just okay.
-
Then I watched COMPANY.
Did you like it?
-
I thought it was just okay.
Answered before I asked.
-
I will probably never watch the extras.
-
I watched golf.
Did you enjoy the golf?
-
Hello, George.
-
George, that isn’t what I asked for a copy, was it?
-
I hope not.
-
I just thought about that.
-
I will probably never watch the extras.
I usually will get a DVD/Blu-ray version with extras as opposed to a bare-bones version, but I rarely watch the extras, either. ::) I just want to have the option if I ever do want to watch them.
-
Oh well, it was a birthday gift.
-
Just one to go.
-
George, that isn’t what I asked for a copy, was it?
No, that was Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age.
-
Whew! It's PAGE FIVE!!
I printed a little single-page booklet with info that I'll send with the discs.
-
BK, I am sorry about your accompanist.
-
I've printed them all, but need to cut them so that they fit into the sleeves.
-
I'll do that at work on Monday and send them out either Monday or Tuesday...or maybe Wednesday, at the latest. ::)
;)
-
Not as sorry as he is going to be.
-
Oh then I watched the first half of the Seattle Seahawks game.
-
It was pre-season.
-
And we won 27 to 0 over the LA Chargers.
-
Congrats to the Seahawks!
-
Then I watched a really poor disaster film.
-
It was called VOLCANO: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.
-
I didn’t recognize anyone in the film, except maybe one character actor.
-
George, that isn’t what I asked for a copy, was it?
No, that was Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age.
Did you have the first film called (I believe) BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE?
-
Well, BK, George and I did it!
-
You will have to find a different puppy to kick.
-
George, that isn’t what I asked for a copy, was it?
No, that was Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age.
Did you have the first film called (I believe) BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE?
I actually didn't! But I ordered a used copy from Amazon last week, and it arrived on Wednesday.
-
Hell, I may keep typing.
-
Elmore, what a terrible experience.
-
BK, if you started THE RING CYCLE tonight, after you post the notes, you might almost be finished by tomorrow night’s notes!
-
I have only seen a few operas.
-
I was in CARMEN.
-
Naturally I played the title character.
-
I saw LA BOEHME.
-
I saw TURN OF THE SCREW.
-
I saw PAGLIACCI
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
Is that even spelled correctly?
-
I saw PAGLIACCI
I will blame it own SpellCheck.
-
I saw TURN OF THE SCREW.
I was going to post that OperaVision (https://www.youtube.com/c/OperaVision/featured) has posted the La Monnaie/De Munt production of Britten's The Turn of the Screw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74fr05_nCA). Recorded on April 29, 2021, it'll be available until February 27, 2022.
-
THE TURN OF THE SCREW is good, but it is better as the film THE INNOCENTS.
-
Good night, George.
-
THE TURN OF THE SCREW is good, but it is better as the film THE INNOCENTS.
I've never seen that.
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.
