Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the stuff dreams are made of, and now it is time for you to post until the dreaming cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOBNOB!
-
I certainly hope that someday a theater group here in Olympia can do A Carol Christmas. I'd certainly love to be in another BK show!
-
Make it so! I'll come and see it.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had two long dreams last night that I am surprised I remember. In the first I was with a group in a European airport waiting for the flight back to Manhattan. I had my where's-my-passport? panicky moment, and more things occurred that I no longer remember.
-
In the second, much of the beginning is lost now, including a supermarket trip and closing of the foundation office formerly known as Toyland. My colleague Curtis, who was on both Packard Humanities and Vogel Institute projects, purchased the office's contents an space. I needed to see Curtis so I drove over to the office, which was the haunted house of my grandmother's at 711 Tenth Avenue in Middletown, OH, where I lived the first four years of my life. It was so early when I got there that when I got to the door I could see Curtis' lit up computer screen against the back wall of the room, and I could hear him speaking loudly on the phone, so I sat in the car for a bit, drove up to Verity Parkway and then drove back to Tenth Avenue. I went back to the door. He was still out of sight, on the phone, so I went in, and he was in my grandmother's kitchen, talking on trhe phone. Then a couple of women showed up with a package of sliced pears in come sort of red cinnamon syrup. Curtis and I discussed whatever I came about, and I asked him, are you living here as well? He affirmed that, and I thought, I wonder if he's seen or heard the ghosts yet, but before I could ask, he said, sometimes I wonder if someone's walking up and down the stairs. And I woke up.

I have a few things I need to accomplish this morning, and then I can relax.

Last night we finished Thoroughly Modern Millie. The two endings in the fireworks factory-opium den followed by Long Island do go on too long and could have been condensed or combined. I still love the movie, but watcing it this time, I felt the screenwriter's attitude toward the Roaring 20's was that it was all camp by the 1960s and the movie needed to hit as many things possible from that era and the silent films, from The Perils of Pauline to Harold Lloyd's stunts.
It also reminded me of the musical Redhead, which I wish I liked more and which I feel Fosse screwed up turning it into a vehicle for Gwen Verdon. Redhead, a musical murder mystery set in a waxworks, was originally written by Herb and Dorothy Fields for Bea Lillie and kept getting revised for other leading ladies before Fosse and Verdon took over. I feel the final version lost the mystery with too many Verdon numbers and I'm very curious to read an earlier draft, which could prove me right or wrong. Thoroughly Modern Millie is essentially a mystery about the white slave trade, but the movie sprawls with a lot of extraneous material. Yet, I do love it.

Good morning, friends.
-
Wow. Pears in red cinnamon syrup. That's pretty specific! :)
-
Annabelle is a little too frisky this morning: she's leaping all over the place, wrestling Thatch, and working my last nerve.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I don’t know if I will get a chance to watch anything before leaving tomorrow. Tonight I am seeing the play/musical The Buddy Holly Story.
-
A computer reboot at work.
-
I like the cast CD of The Buddy Holly Story although I have never seen the show.
When we were in London - it was playing and there was a great marquee - I wanted to see it, but the others in the group wanted to see Lettice & Lovage....so we saw that instead....
-
Good morning, all.

I haven't seen The Maltese Falcon in years. In fact, I don't think I've watched either the DVD or Blu-ray that's on my shelf. My only solid memories of watching it are at a few film festivals or revival houses in L.A.
It's certainly considered one of the all time classics. And yet...
I did read the book, back in the '70s when I was first seeing the movie. No idea now what's similar or different in it.
-
No idea yet what the TOD has in store for me, but I can say that tomorrow night I'm seeing '1776' at Curtain Call in Stamford. They have a good reputation, and I know the music director and a couple of the actors. As I recall, they have a pretty cramped space for musicians, so I wait with bated breath to see and hear how the score is portrayed.

I love both the book and the movie, which is quite close to the book.

Walmart is really diversifying!

Friday morning greetings! It’s a gloriously beautiful day here in SW Ohio and our porch work is coming along nicely.

One of my father’s holiday cooking specialties!

DR Druxy is featured on the commentaries on the DVd version I have. Great set with the two other, not-so-good other adaptations of the novel.

One minir change made for the better, IMO, is that Sam Spade is a blond in the novel.

Sir, it's too good, at least.

From Tom:
They have located and destroyed a third killer hornet nest here in Western Washington. Those are really ugly cattle. Is any other state finding these monsters?
Yesterday, as Keith's swelling finally began to go down, we said at least these are not what attacked him.

OMG, the rainstorms last night, especially around midnight when I'd planned on being asleep -- incredible. Twice within the time span of a few weeks, the first being the "remnants" of Ida, we were hearing what sounded like the hardest rainfall EVER.
Today is sunny and clear and certainly cooler. Oh yeah, that was something else, too, last night. The temperature and humidity were relatively high, and the air was soaked. Soaked air. Yep. Had to run the A/C for a bit in my bedroom just to quit feeling sticky, even though the actual temperature would have been perfectly comfortable otherwise.
-
Good morning.
-
Wonder of wonders! It looks like it might rain here.
I'd be happy to get out the buckets. We need more rain.
-
So, the AC lady never called back as promised, but the roofer guy did email that he was resending the estimate. So it sounds like she called him.
-
You're welcome to as much of this rain as you can carry, DR Laura.
No per bag charge today, we're having a pre-Black Friday sale! Just show up and haul it away!
-
I am ready for this work day to end.
-
Excuse me; I have an appointment with my piano tuna.
-
I will be scarce here at HHW tomorrow because I will be traveling with my DH to his high school reunion.
Which is a great sacrifice on my part, as I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even want to attend my OWN reunion.

The same lady who said "Oh yes, Mrs. Laura. I remember you."? ;D

I hope you have fun. Will you know anyone there? There are a few spouses I look forward to seeing at our reunions.

I have a friend here in town who, like me, did not grow up here. Her husband, my husband, and DR Elmore all graduated in the same high school class and my friend and I like going to their reunions more than they do. For the 50th, Richard saw to it that we were in France when that party was scheduled.

Clever guy. You couldn't say no to that.

Okay, sit down, everyone. Just sit the HELL down.
Are you ready for this?
I went out to the car to go pick up the pizza we're sharing for dinner, and ..... my car battery is dead.
Fortunately, I figured out what ran it down, and I need to avoid letting this happen: The car has an automatic light shutdown that kicks in when the car is turned off but the headlights (for example) are left on. After several minutes it turns them off to protect the battery. I know that works, in fact, because I inadvertently "tested" it once. :D But that protection apparently doesn't extend to little interior lights, and I have found the culprit.
Tuesday night, arriving home after rehearsal, I'd shut the car down but I wanted to look for something, so I turned on the two little "map lights" above the dashboard, found what I wanted, and blissfully got out and went inside. Next day I drove around on some errands just fine. What I didn't know was that those lights, unnoticeable in daylight if you aren't looking right at them, were still on. But the battery hadn't died after only one night, and it was getting nicely recharged since I was driving again. But then two days went by without me using the car at all, and another 48 hours of those little suckers being on is what it took to drain the battery.
Dumb, dumb, dumb. And now we'll be calling AAA for our second battery charge this year. Oy!
BK: um...(ahem)... I'll take a link to that charger you bought, if you don't mind. 8)
-
I'm not calling AAA until Kristi has picked up the pizza and we've all had a nice repast. Then they can come out and I'll drive it around to fully recharge it.
-
I'm up, I'm up - was up at seven after three hours of sleep, back in bed at eight-thirty, up at one, refused to get up, and up at two - so I think I did get eight hours of sleep - I needed it, but I need more.
-

Battery charger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JFJLP6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Cord to charge the charger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0742RQ5HW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
BTW, I had to rip out one of the interior lights that would not shut down.

And now, I'm leaving work to drive Margo's sister to the airport, then Margo and I are going to the movies.
-
Moving on...
-
THREE!!!
-
Hope it all works out, DR ChasSmith!

Because my “allergy” symptoms are persisting I called our doctor’s office today and had a very illuminating chat with Amanda. She said it’s possible my test was too early to detect the virus, but they’re not recommending retesting. She said to treat my symptoms with over-the-counter meds and watch for worsening. Apparently I am not the first patient to have this kind of experience.
-
Yep, just take care of yourself, DR Ginny, and call them if you feel the need.
-

That sounded like a better plan.

You might want to confirm if it is or isn't covid to know if you need a booster once they are available.
-
All is well with the car. In the heat of battle, I'd completely forgotten that the others were already on their way home and that we could jump-start it, totally avoiding the AAA. Which we did. I'm so glad I'd decided to wait to call them.
Also, completely unbeknownst to me, Nathan has an older charging unit here that, in a pinch, can do the job. It has to be plugged in, but we mostly want it for around the house anyway. But I think we'll still want to get the BK one. Those are great units, in addition to being portable.
And yes, we know of two (count 'em) other people, all with different kinds of cars, who have had this happen from an interior light being on. Those things will run it down.

Picked up a package, made faux stroganoff with chicken, over rice. The microwave rice bag burst open in the last two seconds. Thankfully it wasn't too terrible, just annoying. Equally annoying is that the other important envelope has been sitting at Vitello's for over a week - no one bothered to inform me of that fact. The time before I'd asked for it to be held there as I was going to lunch there and would pick it up - an hour before I arrived they mailed it because no one passed on that information. So, I'll pick it up tomorrow, but now it won't be credited until Tuesday and I could have had it over a week ago. We're gonna just make a rule that it be held and that someone needs to let me know when it's there. Booked the December date for Kritzerland, not the date I wanted because she gave that one away even though I'd given her my want first. That will stop, too.

Listening to Giordano's Fedora, which has some amazingly beautiful music - stars Eva Peron - oh, sorry - Eva Marton and Jose Carreras.
-
I'm gonna watch a motion picture on Prime now - they have the Todd Haynes movie where a bunch of different actors play Bob Dylan.
-
And now, I'm leaving work to drive Margo's sister to the airport, then Margo and I are going to the movies.
So, we're back from dropping off Margo's sister at the airport. I bought tickets for the movie and am waiting for Margo to get here.

She needed to get her dog situated before she left Veronica Mars (her dog) alone.

I enjoyed Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.

Sure, it was a jukebox musical, but it had energy and all those great songs.

I’m tired though.

And i have a lot to do before I fly to Seattle.

I have to finish packing.

They should make a horror film about these ugly monsters. You wouldn’t need much money for special effects. Just use the actual footage of them.

It is. I am still shocked at the purple one :)
Me, too!

Just as well, I heard she sounds like Patti LaPone.
-
Margo and I didn't get a chance to talk about it, but I think we both liked (but didn't love) Dear Evan Hansen.
-
It was a little too long, and there were times when I was wondering when is everyone going to find out, but then they did, and then it ended.

How are the new songs?
-
Neither of us had any problem with Ben Platt being 28 years old playing a high school student.
-
How are the new songs?
I don't really know the show well enough to know which were the new songs ::) but I liked them all.
-
I heard that Ben Platt is eligible for Medicare next year.

They all fit with each other.

We must move on.

And quickly.

So, I bought a new (to me) phone, a Samsung Galaxy A51 LTE Verizon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08B8JSG95).
-
I need to rest.
-
It wasn't supposed to arrive until Monday, which meant that I wouldn't have been able to get it until Tuesday, but it arrived today!
-
It's now charging up, and I've updated some of the apps that are already on it.
-
So, I bought a new (to me) phone, a Samsung Galaxy A51 LTE Verizon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08B8JSG95).
Great! Put my phone number in it.
-
I won't be able to use it as my own phone until I switch the sim card, but I want to ask someone at one of the Verizon stores a few questions because I can't find answers to them online.
-
So, I'll keep my current phone for the time being.
-
This new phone has four times, count 'em, FOUR times the internal memory of my current phone...128GB vs. 32GB!
-
HOWEVER, the camera, even though it's supposed to be 48 megapixels, doesn't seem to take as clear a picture as my 16 megapixel camera on my current phone. :o

I am out of here.

Good night?

No, but it could just be that looking at it on the small screen makes it seem less clear, so I'll check them out on my desktop computer.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Even though I don't have a sim card in it, I have Internet access through wi-fi and can use the browser just like a mini tablet.
-
New notes are up.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
And who doesn't care if I know it.

That darn who.
