Title: SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED
Post by: bk on September 25, 2021, 12:29:56 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were shaken, not stirred, and now it is time for you to post until the shaken, not stirred cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  I have no idea which Bond movie was my first...but it probably was one with Sean Connery.  My favorite song, though, is "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton.

Today, my family is celebrating my sister's birthday, which actually is Monday.  We were supposed to celebrate it on Sunday and my sister and her friends were going to get together today, which is why John, Tom and I are getting together on Monday, but then something came up with one of her friends and they can't get together today, so they are going to celebrate tomorrow, and my family will celebrate today.  I wish this would've happened sooner, then John, Tom and I probably could've gotten together on Sunday and I wouldn't have needed to take a day off...but it's fine. :)

TOD
I saw Dr No the day it opened at Middletown's Paramount Theatre. I didn't see From Russia With Love until I saw it on VHS around 1990, which is very odd since I loved Lotte Lenya. I did see Goldfinger on opening day and one other time in Oxford, Ohio, and then I missed the next two qhile I was in college. I missed the next two while I was in college, and I saw Diamonds Are Forever in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. That was the end of my Bond film-going until I saw Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, and after that I gave no more good goddam.

I have all the Connery Bond films, and like BK, I think I may drag them all out and watch then in sequence.

Have fun at the reunion DR singdaw.

I think I will skip the Phony Awards on CBS.....thank you very much.  I like to see folks get awards and hear their speeches....and I don't really care about a 2 hour commercial for all the WOKENESS......

I wasn’t permitted to see Dr. No and From Russia With Love when they were first released, but I guess I was thought to be old enough when Goldfinger came around, so I went to that one by myself (I don’t recall the rest of my family ever being interested in Bond) and it was a supreme discovery. I thrilled to everything about it. Love at first sight. That had been right near the end of the year, and that theater was going to run it all night for New Year’s Eve. What could be more blissful? I got my dad to drop me off there, probably not all that late in the evening, and I was glued to that screen for something like two and a half showings when I went out to be picked up at whatever the appointed time was. Subsequently, as I said the other day, that soundtrack LP was played to death.

Was it the very next year that Thunderball came out? I think so, and I believe it opened on Christmas Day. I was dropped off there that afternoon, the place was packed, and that was equally blissful for me even though it’s a slightly lesser film. But I was especially blown away by more of John Barry’s music, and that viewing also has a very special place in my memory.

At some point I caught up with the first two films, but I don’t remember where. I do recall seeing the later double feature of No and Russia with two friends in a seedy (or what seemed like one) theater in Times Square on a visit to NYC in my college years.

Connery is Bond for me, too, no question. But I have such a fondness for the series and the general style that I don’t mind watching the others when in the right mood. And though I was shocked, shocked, at the silly playfulness of Roger Moore’s Bond in his first one, Live and Let Die, I so loved seeing that one at the Chinese that it, too, is a nostalgic one for me.

But how to pick a single Connery favorite? I really have a special attachment of one kind or another to each of them.

Last night's surprise do went very well.  I will post some photos on the BookFace later today.

The roast was most heartily laughed at.....and the slides and music were all well received.....and the food was really good.

Caesar Salad, Italian wedding soup, lasagna, chicken penne, and some nice small fudge pieces and cheesecake squares for dessert.

DR ChasSmith, I've been listening to The Sap of Life this morning. What a wonderful score. I wish I liked the soprano playing Ruthanne; I really find her voice drab. Maybe your director should look into it.

Also, have you looked at Tintypes?

Quote
They should make a horror film about these ugly monsters.  You wouldn’t need much money for special effects.  Just use the actual footage of them.

LOL, very true.

I think there is a horror movie about bees.  I recall watching the opening credits with Keith, years & years ago.  I couldn't get past the non stop hordes of bees buzzing and told Keith to turn it off.  He did not argue with me ;D

My memory of seeing the first Bond film, Dr. No, is a very special one.  I went with my father & brother as we had all had been reading the books.

As soon as Connery appeared we all said "He is Bond!".

For several months now I've witnessed the anger and scorn of some vaxxed people toward the unvaxxed. I've tried to distance myself, as it was not directed at me personally. But I have to ask myself how I, who was harmed as a child by a vaccine that everyone thought was safe (I was one of many children who were injected with a live polio virus), and subsequently developed health issues that none of my many doctors seem to fully understand, can co-exist in a community where many people are not just pro-vax, but some are rabidly anti-antivax.

I fully understand vaccine-hesitancy with a vaccine that was developed so very quickly and whose messaging has been so poor and so contradictory. There are many people who should not have the Covid vaccine, as it is medically contraindicated in certain cases.

I know how frustrating it is to do all you can to stay safe and not spread the virus to others only to see others behave recklessly. I see reckless behavior from both vaxxed and unvaxxed people.

I found the Trump/anti-Trump polarization both personally stressful and damaging to the country. I find the pro-vax/anti-vax polarization equally stressful and damaging, and feel I must distance myself from it at times. I am not comfortable with so much animosity.

It is big enough for two or three and very good. Local berries.

Eating the remaining chicken - sautéed, of course - probably less than one full chicken breast, so calorie-wise it's fine.

Walked back to the AirBnB. It’s harder walking up hill after dinner.

I am now at restaurant 3 waiting for service.

What restaurant?  Not that I would have heard of it.

BluWater Leschi. Good clam chowder, but New England style, not Northwest

Nope...never heard of it. ;)

And yet - the fried clam has gone the way of the dodo bird in my city.

The Coral Cafe has them, but the one time I tried them it was like eating fried erasers. Perhaps I'll give them another go. Perhaps tomorrow.

It tastes a lot like clams.  It has to be properly prepared.  It looks like a large….  Never mind.  The cook has to pound the hell out of it, or it is really tough.

In the message part of HHW.  The last message that I got from you was at 07:24:46 PM, then I replied at 09:08:19 PM with a link to a stock photo of the kind of car that I have, but I just now looked and the link wasn't attached to my outgoing message, so I added a photo of my actual car in a post above this post.
