Topic of the Day:  back in the late '80s and early-to-mid '90s, I read a lot of Stephen King, but at some point around his Dark Tower series, I stopped reading his stuff, and haven't read probably anything since.  I don't know why. :-\

Today, I'm going to my mom's to help with one of her TV's, then I'll  borrow my niece's car (Tom, I'll post a new picture!) for when I meet Tom in Puyallup and then we go to Seattle to meet John.

The DH's high school reunion yesterday was lovely. People were warm and friendly to me.

It was extremely informal and was outside; fortunately, it was a gorgeous day. Everyone brought their own chairs Iwe have two collapsible canvas chairs) and beverages - almost everyone drank water - and 15 pizzas were delivered. I was the only one wearing a mask, even outdoors, but no one questioned me about it. All in all there were probably about 65 people, and no one had to dress up.

Afterward, we stopped at the assisted care facility in town to visit my mother-in-law, who seems to be doing very well. We had a nice but brief visit, and then were on the road home, arriving at about 10:30pm.

I had a long dream about working at the Drama Book Shop. Nothing much happened in it: I was asked to come back to work, as I was in 1985, because the owner needed help with stock orders. There was also something about my being at Goodspeed and a silver chair I'd brought back to Manhattan for the owner's wife, but that's all vague now.

I first encountered Stephen King when DR Ginny brought me The Shining to read while I was home following a tonsillectomy. I finished it, ran dwn to the public library and borrowed 'Salem's Lot.  I cannot remember if I saw the movie or read Carrie first, but I still believe the film is better than the book.

Today is the birthday of George Raft, not the world's greatest actor, but one who certainly had an effective screen presence.

I knew Raft during his later years; lunched with him once or twice .   He was a nice man; not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but a gentleman.

Though he was a major star during the 1930s-40s, by the 1950s, his star had fallen...hard.  Work was difficult to find and, it's my understanding that, during his last years, he was receiving financial help from Frank Sinatra.

The last time I saw Raft, he was working as a "greeter" in a Beverly Hills restaurant.  I didn't want to say "Hello," because, I thought, he might be embarrassed.

I think I captured Raft's persona in my stage play, ROBINSON & RAFT, available in both paperback and Kindle editions via Amazon.

I never read Stephen King until about 25 years ago when I discovered how good he is to listen to. I think Bag of Bones is my favorite, and On Writing holds a special place for me. I agree that the original version of The Stand was too long, but the restored version with several hundred more pages was actually better and didn’t feel as long.

God, do I hate Petco! They're located in California, and I swear that every customer service rep they hire is Asian with English as possible second language. I have yet to understand more than half of what any of their customer reps tell me. On top of that, they don't tell you if an item is out of stock so that your order can be "in preparation" for weeks. So, I need more of Thatch's shrimpy treats, but they are out of them - along with Amazon and Chewy. At least Amazon and Chewy let you known.

My favorite  Stephen King book changes from time to time

Once it was Salem’s Lot

Then it was The Stand

Currently my favorite version of Kings work is the complete audio book of Pet Semetary read by Michael C. Hall

I’ve always preferred his books to the movies, I never felt they translated well, although I did like Dead Zone

They did their best to streamline the presentation. It was nice that all the creative awards got aired. I couldn't tell who the folks were in most of the audience shots due to the masks.

Today, I'm going to my mom's to help with one of her TV's, then I'll  borrow my niece's car (Tom, I'll post a new picture!) for when I meet Tom in Puyallup and then we go to Seattle to meet John.

Whoa!  If you go to Puyallup, you have gone too far.  The park and ride is write off of I-5 in Tacoma.

That's right!  I do have the link to where it is, so I won't go all the way to Puyallup. :)

It is a bad time to be a white guy on Broadway.

I agree with a lot of what they(mostly the Black Arts Coalition) say.

Actually I was happy for three winners: Danny Burstein, Lois Smith and David Alan Grier.

That's wonderful for Danny Burstein!  Finally!  And did Aaron Tveit actually win??

He was the only nominee.

I would suggest that you Google them.  I would not want to misspeak.

I do disagree with them on one point this evening.

They spoke about the very few Black, Asian, and Indigenous playwrights working in theater, especially Broadway.  They said they have a lot of stories to tell.

I would tell them then, that they should write them and if you have written them, then submit them.

Producers are always looking for quality plays.  Submit these great stories and I will wager they will get produced.  IF they are good.

Actually, his winning wasn't a lock.  Even if one person is nominated, that person has to get at least 60% of the voters to vote for them.  Theoretically, one person could be nominated, but the voters don't like that person, so they don't vote for them, and that person doesn't win.  It would really suck, but the rules allow it. :-\

Yes, I know.  From the ovation his win received, I don’t think that was a problem..

I have to find a jacket that I can wear...AND I'm bringing an umbrella.  I have several.  I wonder if I should bring one for John.
