Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not me, and now it is time for you to post until the not cows cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: METTLE!
-
Only about twelve pages of the play left, but I'm saving them for tomorrow when I arise.
-
Right now, I'm I bailed on the Michael Nyman opera, which has immediately gone on the trade pile along with that lousy Manon Lescaut CD. I'm listening to the Hilary Hahn five-CD set right now. Disc one is solo violin stuff, so I'll do that one last. Disc two, which is what I'm listening to, is the Beethoven violin concerto, and as cool as I am on Ludwig Van, this performance is superb - her tone is so subtle and sweet, and I'm even enjoying the music, just as I enjoy the Beethoven seventh symphony. David Zinman is the conductor on this disc - the other piece is Leonard Bernstein's Serenade. Disc three, which follows, is the Samuel Barber and then some composer I never heard of, Edgar Meyer - Hugo Wolff is the conductor on that one.
-
I have that recording of The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. I first heard it in and have had it since I was in college, back in the 1980s. I enjoyed it, but I didn't (and certainly still don't) know what to listen for on the technical side of recordings.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
bk, I fixed it for you.
-
HA!
-
Just finished the second 32 ounces of prep.....that was a bit more difficult than the first.....
Due at the place at noon....procedure at 1 p.m. So we shall see what we shall see.
-
~~~VIBES~~~ and {{{hugs}}} for you today, DR Jrand71!!!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Horrible night of sleep. It was too cool for the AC and too warm to sleep, I drove Annabelle and Thatch crazy as I shifted, tuirned, sat up, lay down, and sometime after midnight I finally drifted off. Ay 5:26 this morning I decided to turn off the alarm and get up when I felt like it. An hour later, even though I didn't feel like it, I got up. I knew the cats were hungry. I'll sleep once I finish kitty cleanup.
-
DR Jrand71, I hope your big event goes well today.
-
BK, if you want a ME day, I think you should simply keep your calandar open and schedule no meetings and no rehearsals.
-
Isn't Michael Nyman the annoying composer of all the Peter Greenaway films?
-
I have no plans today. What else is new?
-
I must give some serious thought to the serious topic of the day. I can think off the bat of these people, but it will be painful to write about some of them:
Roses Mull, fifth grade teacher
Jean Canter, my mother's sister
Valda Wilkerson and Helen Weinberger, junior high and high school music teachers
Helen Ball, librarian
Jim Martin, conductor
Stephen Sondheim, household name
Bill Tynes, producer
John Mcglinn, friend and foe
Bruce Kimmel, needs no introduction
-
I knew the cats were hungry.
-
I decided to turn off the alarm and get up when I felt like it.
Did I post this already? I can't remember...
-
But, once you're up, there is NO privacy.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD
For better or for worse:
My mom and dad
Bill, my journalism mentor and friend
Jim, another journalism mentor and friend
Carol, a travel friend and mentor in creativity
-
It's a damp day of rain and the humidity in the apartment must be somewhere around 1000. I turned on the AC and now it is cold and extremely humid. I'm lying down for a while and going nowhere.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It just happens that I'M going for a ME day today, coming off of a busy weekend and having two and a half (count 'em!) days of grace before the next rehearsal on Wednesday.
-
Yesterday was pretty wonderful, seeing one of the great films the way it should be seen, and being able to greet one Mr. RAH for the first time in over a year and a half. Most gratifying.
Following that, a long drive to an audition of someone who had just contracted bronchitis a couple of days ago, so even though he was in relatively good shape and feeling spry being pumped up on antibiotics, we had to say come back in a few days and let's hear more actual, you know, singing.
-
Prep and good procedure vibes for DR Jrand71.
Onward!
-
Two!
-
This rainy weather is actually perfect for my li'l ME day. It's keeping me inside where I will get some things done -- even though I MUST run out at some point for replenishment of the all-important
(wait for it)
cat litter.
I sympathize with DR Elmore's fight against the clammy humidity. It's in the low 60s here and we've had the heat on lightly since last night -- if, for nothing else, to keep the house feeling dry.
-
With no claim whatever to living up to the guidance of any of them:
Jerry Haas, uncle (who learned in his 70s that he was adopted)
Mrs. Squires, 6th grade teacher
Arden Whitacre, organist
Peggy Barber, choral director
Bernice Whipple, 12th grade English teacher
Arthur Loesser, pianist
James Levine, conductor
Clara Steuermann, librarian
There may be a Part 2 later.
Just caught up with this news from Oct. 1:
RIP Raymond Gniewek, 89, MET concertmaster from 1957 till 2000 and husband of soprano Judith Blegen.
It occurs to me that we probably heard his name as much as any on the Saturday afternoon broadcasts, what with the conductors always shaking hands with him on reaching the podium.
-
Ah, a Facebook outage. Includes Instagram and whatever else they own. I won't mind if it lasts a while.
-
Good morning.
-
It's been cool enough in the mornings for a hike lately. Finally.
-
BACK - with 86 lbs of cat litter and a few food items.
-
bk, I fixed it for you.
I'm up, I'm up - ten-and-a-half hours of sleep - very good!
-
What's fascinating about the Facebook being down thing is that it happened less than twenty-four hours after the whistleblower was on 60 Minutes - if you missed her and it, it's on YouTube in full and really interesting.
-
What's even more interesting is that Twitter has gotten thousands of new and old users online today because, heaven forbid people go one minute without their social media - that's what's shocking and depressing and wrong with this world. Someone said that with Instagram being down, all the influencers might have to actually get a job :)
-
I do not believe that I have actually been influenced in any way by an influencer.
-
Thanks to all for the patented HHW vibes.
Procedure went well...clean bill of health....and kudos to my surgeon from the Doctor performing said invasion.
Back in from 3-5 years....so I guess since it's been 4 1/2 years since my surgery....I can say REMISSION.
-
TOD:
Bryan Fonseca - FOUNDER and Artistic Director of the Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis - who passed away earlier this year of COVID.
VICKIE PARKER - a director who chose me as her assistant for a show back in 1981 and who taught me everything Bryan didn't teach me about doing theatre.
ERNIE FORD - executive director of the Society of Professional Journalists who hired me as his executive assistant and took me on a great ride for almost two years all over the country....and introduced me to MANY folks.
-
Thanks to all for the patented HHW vibes.
That's great news!
What about the time everybody suggested you have a "happy birthday" and you went and had a happy birthday?
-
I can say REMISSION.
Hallelujah!!!!
FANTASTIC!
Most excellent news, JRand!
-
That made a cruddy day much brighter.
-
Speaking of bright, the setting sun coming through the window is blinding me now.
-
But let’s move on…
-
In one …
-
Three!
-
Watching episode 2 of Mare of Easttown. Yes, I'm hooked.
-
So, Pal Joey is getting a new book and other songs added. No.
-
Don't mess around with my Pal, pal.
Nope.
I read the book and found it fascinating. It wasn't until after I read the book that I learned Sack's suffered from prosopagnosia, or face-blindness – the inability to recognize faces.
-
Just finished the second 32 ounces of prep.....that was a bit more difficult than the first.....
Due at the place at noon....procedure at 1 p.m. So we shall see what we shall see.
I think the second one is always more difficult. I don't think I could get it down at that hour.
-
I am finally on the computer as it has been a busy day.
-
I didn't even know Facebook was down most of the day ;D
-
Finished the play and Doug and I figured out all but one of the cast, presuming they can do it.
-
Had Taco Bell for lunch - tried the VERY calorie-friendly crispy chicken taco thing and it was surprisingly really tasty - mild version - will have it again - only 290 calories.
-
And just two minutes ago we had thunder, lightning, and rain. Rain has already stopped - a real LA rain of two minutes' duration. Thunder, however, has continued. It would be so nice if the rain continued for an hour.
-
My work is done for the day, so that's nice.
-
I do not understand page three.
-
Do you understand page three?
-
Rain has returned - sort of.
-
Even a light rain for an hour would be lovely.
Wow, has it really been that long since your surgery? Congratulations on your great news!
:)
Thanks, everybody.....
I have thought about the TOD and I also have to say that HHW and MR BK have been an influence in my life.
I have learned much from the writings here and in his books, and of course I have learned much from the denizens here at the most popular site on all of the internet.
So there!
And yes, DR JANE, I can hardly believe it myself....my surgery was in May, 2017. As I told Dr. Buckley today - he was there the day of my diagnosis in April, 2017: "On that day I don't think either of us would have truly thought I would still be here today having a conversation with you."
He gave credit to my surgeon Dr. Tsai, which I do as well....and Dr. Buckley today said - something I hadn't known or asked about - that I had three tumors and more than HALF of my c-l-n had been removed.....
I'm still here.
-
I had a book mentor in the form of the Jr. High School librarian.
-
I had many women who helped me get through my teens, especially those high school years as my mother declined each year.
-
DR Jrand it is truly an amazing blessing that you are still here. I for one am very happy you are a success story :)
-
On the River Walk.
-
It is a wonderful walk.
-
Watched the first episode of the new season of Grantchester on PBS.
-
Good night, friends.
I just remembered that I had read that, also...now that you mention it.
Neither did I. I don't get onto Facebook until I get home at night.
-
Had Taco Bell for lunch - tried the VERY calorie-friendly crispy chicken taco thing and it was surprisingly really tasty - mild version - will have it again - only 290 calories.
What a coinkydink! That's exactly what I had for lunch today, too!
-
I found out that the only difference between the regular and the spicy is two little pieces of jalapeños.
-
That's it...they otherwise even use the same sauce on both versions.
Gratuitous Post #100!!
That's a very nice view, John.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jrand, we are very happy you are here with us to celebrate your medical success!
Mega vibes for the coming years!
-
BK told you about our MEGA thunderstorm. Some of the LOUDEST thunder I've ever heard. And yet very little rain. The rain gods seem confused, but at least this was a start. Of course, I was trying to meditate at the time.
-
TOD:
Perry Polski, a high school World Lit teacher who had a HUGE influence on me. What an outstanding teacher he was! And a very kind person.
BK, who, during those angst-filled teen years when everyone felt they must copy their friends, had the vision, courage, and commitment to both know his path and follow it. I don't know if I could have succeeded as a young female in computer science without those lessons.
-
:)
;D
-
TTFN.
-
Jack I am absolutely delighted at your good news.
Congratulations!
I am glad you are still here
TOD
My best friends mother
My best friend
Two of the best women, best people, I have had the privilege to know. I measure myself against their examples and constantly fall short, but I try.
And we are all the better for it! Yay for remission! And thank you for the kind words.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Topic of the Day: my family (of course), my middle school choir teacher Mrs. Baker, because that's when I realized that I loved singing (even though I don't have a great voice...it's probably better than average, but certainly not professional caliber); and my high school choir teacher, Mrs. Poff.
-
Also, a lot of theater friends too numerous to mention (or remember ::) ) who encouraged me and cast me in shows over the years.
-
And so many people here, including our very own BK, who even came to Olympia with David Wechter to see TAO's production of The Brain From Planet X! :D
-
Back from dinner on the River Walk.
-
The sister of my friend Bill (see my TOD post) is in town for a convention. I haven’t seen Sue in decades, but fell back like it was yesterday. She was with her coworkers and we all had a nice time.
-
They had prickly pear margaritas while I had sparkling wine.
-
Five!
-
The waiter made two orders of guacamole tableside, which they devoured.
-
I had crab enchiladas topped with jumbo shrimp. Very satisfying.
-
And that’s all he wrote.
-
Good night, all.
-
Good night, John.
-
Well, what do you know? I hit a millstone and didn't realize it!
-
And here it is:
-
Listening to Manon Lescaut, the recording I already had. Compared to the new thing I listened to and shut off, it's like listening to an entirely different opera. I love Freni and Pavarotti in this and Levine and his band are brilliant. The recording itself isn't technically what I like - distant-sounding - but it's okay.
-
A fine number of postings for dear reader George!
-
So, Pal Joey is getting a new book and other songs added. No.
Why?? :o
Because the old book is crap.
-
A fine number of postings for dear reader George!
I'm the third highest poster...after Jane and you!
-
Fantastic news, Jrand, for you and for all of us who get to have you around.
-
I am such a masochist!
I watched FALSETTOS, again
What is this page five malarkey?
Most unseemly.
We could use some major miracles around these hear parts.
Too much damn stress.
I gotta tell you...
New notes are up and up are new notes.
