Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the Kaper caper, and now it is time for you to post until the caper cows come home.

I slept well, I had a long, rather strange dream that I was working as a volunteer in the Metropolitan Opera costume shop. We had a newly commissioned opera opening that night, so I wasn't needed and I spent the day sitting in the Met's cpffee shop, listening to gossip and chatting with singers and others.

Kitty cleanup was a new situation this morning as my tiny bathroom workspace has diminished, to the cats; dismay. In my new handicapped situation I ordered hand rails for the toilet. Because I am mechanically inept, my neighbor Jen came down and assembled the contraption for me yesterday afternoon. She and Ann are so invaluable to me.

So, the contraption takes up much of my work space between the bathroom door and the litter box and cleaning the litter this morning was a new and learning experience. Annabelle, who used to be able to leap from bathtub ledge to toilet seat, can no lnger do that; the tub handrail and the toilet handrail interrupt her moves, and it was both sad and funny watching her provess the changes in her bathroom romps.

At the movie on Sunday they were talking about another excellent film venue that I've neglected to visit -- the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY, which is practically no farther from me than the Bedford Playhouse. They've got five screens, they show a mix of old and new, and they even run 35mm when warranted. I'm a complete idiot for having not gone, and I shall rectify that situation forthwith.

I just made an appointment at the local Xfinity store for tomorrow morning, to take in my modem/router and exchange it for a new one. This one has been very good for several years, but it lately requires frequent rebooting in order to get it to stop refusing a connection, or just to maintain good fast performance.

Always in the past you could just walk in. The appointment thing is because of the pandemic. At least I hope so. I'd hate for that to become a permanent fixture at stores like this. Our local Verizon store does likewise.

I have been running around all morning doing stuff.....so I am late to the computer.

The place that I took my uncle's old laptop to is called FLUX.  They messaged me yesterday and said something inside is bad and can't be replaced.  However they can find me a replacement for $199.

Since I have never had a laptop and this particular model was more money than that, I went over there this morning and paid the money and will have my replacement in about a week.

The young man who was there showed me the picture of the one they were getting me.....it seems fine.

DR TCB I watched SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON on Monday.  I hadn't seen it for quite awhile either....I liked it a lot.  Except for one cast member, I enjoyed everybody.

And it made me think that Dorothy McGuire has been the movie mother of Tommy Kirk & Kevin Corcoran (three times), James MacArthur, Anthony Perkins, Richard Eyer, Connie Stevens, Troy Donahue, and Nick Nolte - among others.

Exactly.  When I was young I knew a pregnant woman who had to live through the fear of this after being exposed, though not from her doctor.  Once there was a vaccination, way before I got pregnant, I was vaccinated.

I heard a real commercial blooper this morning, and when it replayed several hours later, I confirmed it.  Someone in the commercial agency really blew it.

I believe what the announcer was implying was "So, if you or someone you know . . ." but instead the announcer says, "So, if you or your man suffers from erectile dysfunction . . ."

Everyone is talking about books.

I ordered a couple of plays to read since MR BK has been reading plays, I have been inspired to see what's out there.

The haven't arrived yet so I bought a book at the Goodwill store to read in the meantime.

It is remarkable how uninterested I am in the life of Winston Churchill.  It seemed like a good idea at the time for $2.49 less my 30% senior discount.  It was not.

In the meantime, for you viewing pleasure watch THIS: Wilshire Boulevard - the Miracle Mile - 1951 - the week of August 1 to be exact. Note how empty much of it is. Note that they were selling BOMB SHELTERS in 1951! Note Du-Par's - which, just eight or nine months earlier had been the Kiru Cafe, my father's second restaurant! Note the La Brea tarpits, most of which would be gone in 1964 when they built the Museum of Modern Art. https://youtu.be/5fL8n_aAisQ

It seems that former DR JMK is music directing the stage version of King of Hearts. I saw the original Broadway production.

That's cool!  I really like the cast recording.

What is it called?

DR TCB I watched SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON on Monday.  I hadn't seen it for quite awhile either....I liked it a lot.  Except for one cast member, I enjoyed everybody.

And it made me think that Dorothy McGuire has been the movie mother of Tommy Kirk & Kevin Corcoran (three times), James MacArthur, Anthony Perkins, Richard Eyer, Connie Stevens, Troy Donahue, and Nick Nolte - among others.

Who is the cast member that you didn’t like?  I hope it wasn’t James MacArthur.  He was my first movie star crush.

Wednesday afternoon greetings!

From DR John:

Quote
Amor Towles has a new book out, The Lincoln Highway. Looking forward to it.

So am I.

I am, too.  In fact, this evening I'm attending a Zoom event sponsored by Ann Patchett's Parnassus Books:

www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-event-with-amor-towles-in-conversation-with-ann-patchett-tickets-165281819371?utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=event_reminder&utm_term=eventname

My ticket purchase includes a copy of the book with an autographed book plate.

Anyone care to join me?

I would if I weren’t already engaged.

What?  When did you get engaged?

Fortunately, the storage place is only about a mile from where I live.

The storage place also needs me to prove that I have (or can get) insurance for my stuff.

I could've gotten insurance today when I rented the place, but we went too far in the application process and the woman didn't know how to go back to add it...so I have to contact my insurance agent and find out about it.

What I do a lot is right-click on "Reply" and open the link in a new tab (and NOT preview it) so that if the day changes, that tab is still open with what I've written and I can copy that post and post it in a post in the new day.
