Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a trip, and now it is time for you to post until the trippy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FERVID
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am going blind. This morning I am having the worst time focusing and reading words on the computer screen. I see my ophthalmologist for the first time in over 18 months on Monday, and that will be interesting.
-
I spoke to Joshie yesterday. He said the Tunick event on Saturday went well. Steve Sondheim was in the audience, and O hope he has a program for me.
-
I have no real plans today, same as yesterday, the day before, that . . .
-
Good morning, all.
-
I usher for a truncated Fon Giovanni tonight.
-
I usher for a truncated Fon Giovanni tonight.
Don Giovanni? It's on my list of the two greatest operas and one of the hardest to pull off. I hope it's a good production.
-
HA! Good morning.
I am going over to my uncle's house with my sister this morning. He has been in the hospital since Saturday - he had an ulcer flare up and he was dehydrated.....but he is improving and will be coming home today or tomorrow.
I am going to add my sister's phone number and my cousins phone number into his landline so that he can speed dial them.
I downloaded the instructions from the inner web, and I have done this once before. So I am hoping I can get it done.

DR JANE it is the Churchill biography by Roy Jenkins.
-
DR TCB - oh no it wasn't James MacArthur who is favorite in these here parts as much if not more so than Tommy Kirk.
In fact it is Mr John Mills - I always thought it was interesting that he played the father the same year his daughter played Pollyanna and now it turns out that his employment was a BIG part of her contract. If they wanted her for the movie, they had to put him in a movie as well.
I thought it was something like that. I don't think Disney regular Fred MacMurray would have worked in SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, but there were others actors around that would have..... Mills is just hard to look at for me - and his acting is just too precious and self conscious - kind of like how he used to fluff his eyelashes with his fingers before every take.....

That new Tom Stoppard biography is ginormous. Much as I like some of his work, it was nuch, nych more than I ever cared to know about.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Worst night of insomnia ever. And for no good reason.
I was in bed by midnight, and had only begun to drift off to sleep by 3:00 am or thereabouts. After I'd looked at the clock then, it was later still that I was finally asleep.
My dreams (I wish I could actually remember the main thing going on) were largely about the sleep I needed. That's real helpful, right? Oy.
-
Now I have to get ready to disconnect this modem/router and drive it over to the Xfinity store.
Let's all pray to Rosemary's baby that the setup of a new one goes smoothly. I remember from five years ago that it took this current one several complete reboots (and help from a person on the phone) before it would completely function.
-
That video of Wilshire Blvd. is amazing. I can comment more on it later when I'm back and everything is functioning.
-
I hope DR John G. has dun with Fon Giovanni tonight.
-
Hmm. Now I need to watch those Disney/Mills movies again.
-
TOD
Late 1950s - the entire lengths of Main St. and Broad St. in Columbus.
Early/mid 1960s - the downtown and other commercial/retail areas of Fort Lauderda.e
Late 1960s-early 1970s - downtown Cleveland, University Circle area, and a few other parts of Cleveland.
Early/mid 1970s - Oy, don't get me started. L.A./Hollywood/Beverly Hills/Westwood...
Same for the late 1980s, but a bit less critical than the above.
-

I’ve only seen the Joseph Losey film version. This will be semistaged with the orchestra on stage. The music should be great but limited.
-
Modem vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
-
As I suspected, the numbers were already in the phone. Someone just had to be taught how to use Speed Dial correctly.
-
Nice videos.....
I guess I would be more interested in photos or videos of the houses we lived in as I was growing up. Four or five of them are still around, but two are gone.....
-

But he is the perfect Jess in the original London cast of The Good Companions with Judi Dench.

The father of the young man who played JOSEPH in the postponed show was also in the show as one of the brothers. He was very good. It was his first show since high school. He had a very good time during rehearsals.
He died yesterday of COVID complications. JOSEPH had COVID in January, so he decided he had the antibodies and didn't need a vaccine. Of course his girl friend got COVID and was the reason the show was canceled......then his 14 year old brother got COVID and finally recovered.
And now his father is gone.....NO ONE GOT A VACCINATION -
-
Early 40's......gone....
-
In Mom’s assisted living facility, there is a photo of my beloved neighborhood theater, the Vogue, during what looks to be the Depression. The line outside is long, the women are dressed up, their kids are a bit less so. It’s a cold day. And I’d like to be there. Can’t see what’s playing but it’s likely something like Miracle on 34th Street.
-
Agree with you, DR Jrand71, about the houses. There are all too few pictures of a couple of ours, and absolutely none of another couple of them.
-
Sleep vibes for ChasSmith.
-
Two!
-
From John:
Fascinating. But has the traffic in LA ever been that light?
Yes, and there wasn't much traffic on the freeways.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! Trying to be upbeat on a day when I'm anything but.
-

Thanks.

I would have to watch the movie again though I don't recall disliking his performance. When I read about his contract deal I found it surprising, but also clever-lol

That was your worst night of insomnia. I am envious.

Tell him to practice by calling you. He probably didn't use it enough to remember.

So, so sad :(
-
Early 40's......gone....
And so young. More babies are now dying of this, or getting very sick. It scares me that Freyja now lives in an rather unvaccinated area.
-
Back! -- on (thank the gods) a new and presumably faster and stronger internet connection.
-
DR Jrand71's news about the Covid death, etc., is horrific. What in the HELL?!
-
Okay, back to the Wilshire Blvd. video.
That technology is really something. I first saw it applied to turn of the century footage of NYC and Paris, and the way it can bring the past to life, so to speak, is astounding. The thing this guy gets right is being right up front about the color, etc., not being historically accurate -- which, of course, how could it be, because it's up to the guy's best guess as to how things looked.
As to the footage itself -- I'd seen that night one before -- and I'm thinking there's another one out there, perhaps from a later year, that even more shows the night life on the sidewalks, perhaps more neon signage, etc., that's simply heartbreaking when you think of how all of that style and those inviting places disappeared so many decades ago.
This daytime one shows my original favorite Du-Par's, which I discovered one evening in '72 or early '73 during my first year in L.A. The architecture and feel of the place spoke to me, though I recognize that infinitely more now than I did then. It's too bad this film footage didn't capture BK's dad's place instead. Close, but no cigar.
And man, the wide open spaces then. But that's a full 20 years before I first saw the Miracle Mile. I guess some of the tar pits were filled in or built over by LACMA? Have to research that. Such an interesting area.
-
I still can't believe they've just destroyed that entire LACMA complex. Yes, I know it needed updating and improvment in some ways. But completely demolishing so much of what people knew for decades? What a loss.
-
Good afternoon!
-
Thanks BK and DR George for the links for those fascinating videos!
-
I do smile over how much the film industry seems to like that part of town for apocalyptic disasters. The late '80s movie Miracle Mile, 1997's Volcano, and the new TV series or mini-series La Brea. I've seen the first three episodes of the latter and it's fun. The '97 movie is ridiculous, but there's some decent location footage. But I've really been thinking about Miracle Mile lately, which I've only watched once several years ago, and I just added the Blu-ray to the watch pile.

Got my tix for Kauai in January. $132 each way from San Antonio.

Is it January yet?

Andrew Lloyd Webber to Variety:
Cats was off-the-scale all wrong. There wasn’t really any understanding of why the music ticked at all. I saw it and I just thought, “Oh, God, no.” It was the first time in my 70-odd years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog. So the one good thing to come out of it is my little Havanese puppy.
[During a recent trip] I wrote off and said I needed him with me at all times because I’m emotionally damaged and I must have this therapy dog. The airline wrote back and said, “Can you prove that you really need him?” And I said “Yes, just see what Hollywood did to my musical Cats.” Then the approval came back with a note saying, “No doctor’s report required.”

I mentioned to Keith I would like to go there. He doesn't enjoy snorkeling and usually sits on the beach while I swim. What else is there to do except play at the beach?

Thursday afternoon greetings! Trying to be upbeat on a day when I'm anything but.
I know the feeling. Are you and Richard improving?

I will never understand how Westwood, in the heart of UCLA, could become so dead. It really is sad.

Not be at work.

-
Wow. What a draggy day.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
The electricians have come and gone. I survived three waking hours without internet. I felt quite lost.
-
The video of Wilshire Blvd is interesting. I confess I don't remember much from 1951, but BK, older and wiser, would. It would not surprise me to find that HE took that footage.
-
DR Ginny, I've been thinking about you and Richard and wondering how you're doing. I hope you have a positive report.
-
I had a Covid test the other day. I was having some cold symptoms over the weekend and thought I'd better get tested. Negative! That's what I expected, but it's best to have it confirmed. LA County has things set up now so that I was able to get an appointment quickly, free, and nearby. It went very smoothly. I REALLY like the idea of FREE and frequent testing.
-
I am going blind. This morning I am having the worst time focusing and reading words on the computer screen. I see my ophthalmologist for the first time in over 18 months on Monday, and that will be interesting.
Are you having floaters? I was trying to figure out why the vision in my right eye was so blurry after the procedure to correct that eye and I think it's due to my floaters. When I take the little pellets (tiny pills) that reduce the floaters the vision in that eye becomes clearer, too. Glad you're seeing the ophthalmologist. Vibes it clears soon.
-

John G, have you hit pre-retirement mode?
-
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZ
for all who need them.
-
TTFN.
-

Groan. I am glad it is done with and hope they did the work correctly. It would be a shame if they have to return.

What a sad, sad story, DR Jrand71.
-

Good news it was negative. Is it the quick test or did you have to wait for the results?
-
DR Jrand did JOSEPH get covid again?
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good night DR Singdaw.
-
It is quiet here.
-
Keith is popping corn.
-
'night
-
Is it January yet?
John G, have you hit pre-retirement mode?
I wish. But I won't be able to afford to retire for a few more years. I can't even withdraw from my accounts without penalty for another half-year. Not that I need to do that.
-
But I have become lazy.
-
And I need to do something about that.
-
Sitting on my talents all day doesn't help me get enough exercise, even with the dancing.
-
So, I went to a covid Don Giovanni tonight.
-
There was a cast of about 10, all with fine voices.
-
The score was reduced by half to about 90 minutes of action, which caused everything to flow quickly.
-
The top arias were there, and the audience was vocally appreciative.
-
But there was no orchestra. I don't know if it's because the symphony is on strike or if the budget only allowed for a pianist. The music conductor also played harpsichord.
-
Again, the audience loved it.
-
I just felt like it was opera on a dime.
-
There were only about 600 people in attendance.
-
I hope they have a better crowd on Saturday.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
What's your favorite Mozart opera?
-
Mine is The Magic Flute. I think because I learned it through the Bergman movie.
-
I have finished Sally Rooney's new book. It didn't play out exactly as I thought it would -- and for that I'm grateful.
-
It was also nice that she set the ending in the pandemic world, so the work felt up to date.
-
It's too late to start a movie tonight.
-
I think I'm going to catch up on some sleep.
-
Sorry I couldn't make the post number higher.
-
gratuitous post No. 99!
-
Good night, all.
-
And vibes to us all. I think we could all use some magical xylophones, too.
-
I must be loooooosing my mind. I was sure the first thing I did this morning was post how much sleep I got, but alas, I think I went right to answering e-mails and then had to get ready for Kerry O'Malley and from there it was just one thing after another.
-
So, I'm up, I'm up. Eight hours of sleep.
-
Kerry ran her stuff for the duo act and we just cleaned up some of the patter to focus it better and I gave her one change that's going to be very funny, I think. She's the polar opposite of the other person she's performing with - that person likes to be off-the-cuff and whatever happens happens. I don't think that ever works very well, especially when you're performing with someone who IS completely prepared and ready.
-
After she left, I picked up a package (a return, actually), then went to Gelson's and got a chicken Caesar salad and a tiny bit of their rigatoni bolognese, not even three ounces. I came home and ate that up and it was okay.
-
Then I had stuff to do on the computer, a telephonic call happened, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched a movie that I can now, a few hours later, barely even remember. More about that later.
-
Then I tried to watch another movie, but I really didn't care for it, despite its star power.
-
After that, I had a bagel and some Chocolate Dips Very Cherry jelly beans - since I don't know where the "jelly" part comes from, I think they should be called Belly Beans, since we do know they're going in the belly.
-
Then I had another telephonic call and got the good news that we're pushing the first play reading to after the second play reading, so that pressure is now off, thank goodness.
-
And now I'm listening to music. Finishing up my E.J. Moeran listening - for some reason there's either not a ton of recorded Moeran or I simply haven't uploaded anymore.
-
After Moeran, I'm not sure where I'll turn for the rest of the evening's music.
-
Now, where in tarnation IS everyone and why are we still on page four?
-
Man, if it wasn't for JohnG and li'l ol' me we wouldn't even be ON page four.
-
Page five is in sight.
-
Sorta.
-
Kinda.
-
Kinda.
-
Sorta.
-
What am I, doing a monologue?
-
And so it goes.
-
I am going blind. This morning I am having the worst time focusing and reading words on the computer screen. I see my ophthalmologist for the first time in over 18 months on Monday, and that will be interesting.
Oh, no. :-\
~~~Eye Vibes for Larry!!~~~
My pleasure!
-
After work tonight, I went to my sister's to help take the canvas cover off her wrought iron gazebo but she and her daughter decided that we'd take it down on Saturday after dinner at our mom's. Fine with me.
-
So, then I went to Fred Meyer and did a little shopping.
-
I got some diet Pepsi to bring to my mom's for tomorrow's card playing, and some milk for myself.
-
Then, I came home and started watching some YouTube videos...mostly left-leaning political channels that I follow, and a couple of cooking shows.
-
Then, I got into chatting with friends on various apps (at one point, I was talking with four, count 'em FOUR, people on four, count 'em FOUR, different apps!! :o
-
Now, I'm down to just one chat...and HHW, of course.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
New notes are posted.
-
Guy Williams WAS Zorro.
-
Dashing he was.
