So, adding insult to our various injuries...

Gasoline is up nearly 20 cents from a week or two ago.

Prices are up on MANY of the usual things I buy at the supermarket. Of course those have been creeping up for a while.

But worst of all, there are signs of shortages -- at least in paper goods. I'm late to the par-tay on this one, because I only got wind of it yesterday evening when I made that stop in a supermarket outside of my own local area, and noticed that their paper goods aisle was COMPLETELY EMPTY. Just like in spring of 2020. I kid you not.

I asked someone up front, saying I was only curious, but are we in an actual shortage again? She said not necessarily, but every time they stock up, their customers empty those shelves in pretty short order. She actually said "they seem to be pretty grabby around here", and "here" happens to be a fairly well to do community.

So this morning I checked in on the news, which I simply don't do every day, and sure enough, they're hinting at it, blaming it on the backlog at the ports. I said to myself, the HELL with this, and I just came back from two stores with a few 12-packs of toilet paper. We're good on paper towels here, and those seem to be in better supply. But I'll be taking inventory of what we've got, and damn it to HELL we're building that stash back up again. Not inordinately, but we're going to have at least a few months supply here, which we've basically done since things became available again after last time.

I’m up, I’m up - six hours of sleep. Just as I was about to go to bed, I noticed the light on the router was red not blue and I had no Internet. I called and spent thirty minutes on the phone. They said the modem was fine and finally suggested I take the router back and get a replacement, which I’ll do at ten when they open

Back from Spectrum - got a new router. Hooked it up and it was much faster, but the new network name wasn't in the list of available networks. Called and she said I needed to unplug both modem and router and re-plug so they could recognize each other. Did that and they bonded within a minute, so that was good. But the new network name wasn't showing BUT the old one was. She was baffled and reached out to her person, who said they'd heard of that happening. Meanwhile, while I was on hold I for grins tried to connect to the old one and it did, instantly. I told her that and she was even more baffled. So, we're gonna leave it alone and if there's any issues later I call back and ask for "Internet" and tell them to override something in the "provisions" and that should bring up the new name - but for now, if ain't broken I'm standing pat.

There was an interesting interview on the PBS NewsHour last night about it. A reporter from the Washington Post said that it's a very fragmented system. No one edict will take care of things. Lots of things need to go smoothly for it to get better.

I tried the Classic Chickpea. It had a yellow bun. It was a bit plain, but it could be doctored up a bit. Grubhub allows you to choose extra toppings. Next time I'll probably try the Tangy Chickpea. The burgers are big and the potato wedges were good.

It's a franchise, wo you could open one in Vancouver.   ;)

DR Jeanne what was the combination you got?

I tried the Classic Chickpea. It had a yellow bun. It was a bit plain, but it could be doctored up a bit. Grubhub allows you to choose extra toppings. Next time I'll probably try the Tangy Chickpea. The burgers are big and the potato wedges were good.

It sounds good.  I would have expected the potato wedges to be soggy.  They look good in the photo.

DR George have you read the latest news?

"People who got Johnson & Johnson Inc’s COVID-19 vaccine as a first shot had a stronger immune response when boosted with vaccines from Pfizer Inc /BioNTech SE or Moderna Inc , a study run by the National Institutes of Health showed on Wednesday."

The audio of State of Terror just came in at the library, not even 24 hours after I placed a reservation. I’m still on with IT or I’d start listening now.

I'm on the seventh of 14 parts, so I'm zipping right through. It's fun. Great lit? No. But a very enjoyable thriller.

I don't know that I want to read it.  I am sure to find your comments very interesting.

Everything's off today. I was on and off the phone with IT all day. Couldn't work otherwise. Then I got a call at 5 p.m. saying that the IT person I worked with did more harm than good. So, I had to take the laptop to the office, where they fixed it in under a half hour.

She's ready to drop the price on the house. She wants it sold before it gets cold. She's afraid a pipe will burst or something if the house isn't tended to.

Starting to watch James Ivory's adaptation of Henry James' The Europeans. I saw the movie when it first came out and don't remember much, except for Lee Remick. I read the novel much later and loved it. I will say I don't like all of Henry James.

Forgot to mention that in that horrid Diabolique remake, a young and quite bad actor plays a member of a two-person video crew doing a commercial for the school where the film takes place. His name was Jeffrey Abrams and he would, of course, soon become J.J. Abrams - and I find him to be just as uninspired as a filmmaker.

Yes. I got some peaches in my Bountiful Basket this past week. They went from unripe to overripe in a day, so I had to use them up. And I had a recipe that proved really good.

I don't remember much about the remake except that it was far from the original. Light years.

Does it indeed have only 3 wheels, DR Jrand71?   It was kind of hard to tell from the picture.

The ones that I've seen around here don't only have 3 wheels.  I've only seen 4-wheeled Smart Cars.

I used to work with a woman who didn't want her kids to call other people stupid and therefore that was a forbidden word. When they'd get angry they'd say, "Stupid, stupid, stupid" rather than the classic swear words.

I like this :)

My niece swears in sci-fi.  She used to watch the TV show Defiance, and they say "shtako (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shtako)." ;D
