Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not in teeny-tiny type, and now it is time for you to post until the teeny-tiny cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PERSPICACITY!
-
And George can bring TCB along and I'll just bet we could coerce traveler Jane to come, too. Wouldn't that be FUN? Next show, December 12!
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, it's none of my business but, since we keep hearing about it, sack the helper and her mother and hire someone good. I will now butt out.
-
DR singdaw, I'll have what you're having for Halloween, only I want the entire lousy family - from idiot and crooked children to an apathetic "fuck Christmas" wife - in there with him.
-
I had a horrid night of sleep but faithful Thatch stayed with me. I had many dreams, none of which except for the last I remember. In that one I was working once again at the Drama Book Shop.
-
I have three bills I need to pay today since my Social security lands on Wednesday and I will then have the funds to pay them.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I have little to report on this Sunday morning.
The storm last night was, thankfully, nothing, at least right here in this area. Just a lot of rain. But the weather has turned, and now we're in Autumn with a capital A. Today's high is 62, tomorrow's is 57, then it returns to the high 60s. And those leaves will be falling now, and it'll be time for me to be out there trying to keep up with it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I despise the teeny-tiny type.
But along with it, in printed material and online, I despise the light gray on white design of what is invariably more teeny-tiny type. It's an insane trend.
-
Our fall weather is only a few days. It’ll be in the upper 80s by Wednesday.
-
Count me among the tiny type haters. I had to take a class for work Friday. When I increased the point size of the content, it had a reverse effect on the directional text, which reduced to something like 2 point. Most irritating.
-
Had weird Merchant Ivory dreams last night. I was working on one of their costume dramas and the actors didn’t want to look the period.
-
May have been inspired by the extras where Ivory kept saying Lee Remick fought the corsets and kept trying to slip in some eye makeup.
-
From Slipped Disc:
"News has been shared of the death of the pianist Cecilia Brauer, older sister of the Met's veteran concertmaster Raymond Gniewek, who died two weeks ago. Cecilia, who joined the Met in 1972, was in her 90s. She was an enthusiastic performer of Benjamin Franklin's invention, the glass harmonica."
-
Her name certainly sounded familiar, but I don't know what context I would have heard it in. Does house pianist mean rehearsal pianist, or pianist in the orchestra? I'm thinking the latter, but maybe it means all of that and more. I wonder if she played glass harmonica in one of the more modern-day operas.
-
Good morning!
-
I'd love to attend a get-together of HHWers!

She would have played it in Die Frau ohne Schatten and possibly in Lucia di Lammermour.

Continued computer and helper vibes for MR BK!
-
Interesting Frances Farmer article from DR JOHN G yesterday. i didn't realize the clip of her second appearance on Ed Sullivan was on line!
-
I heard from an old school friend the other day. He was throwing out stuff and came across a photograph that he thought would have involved me, and he asked if I'd like to have it. I certainly did, and he mailed it to me.
While waiting for it to arrive, I realized how few photos I have from my college years -- not just of me, but of anyone or anything I was involved with. Like, practically none. How could that be? Well, I thought about it, and can only say that during those years, I had no camera at school with me and I just wasn't in a picture taking mode. That was the case with almost everyone I knew. If there was a photo of a concert or something, it would have been something the local newspaper published, or one the school had used in its catalogs or other publicity. In short, to say that the photographic evidence in those days was nothing like it is today would be the understatement of the millennium.
That's why even the surfacing of this photo meant something. It's a Polaroid on heavy card stock that had survived the years by being kept in a box. The friend had snapped it while visiting and observing a rehearsal at Meadow Brook, the summer music festival at Oakland University in Michigan, in June 1969.
I think you can click to enlarge.
The young James Levine is conducting. I'm standing in back, second from right, playing something in the percussion section (don't remember what) in Pictures at an Exhibition. At first I thought I was the one on chimes, but I think not in that piece. (Must investigate. I have a recording of the concert a few days later, and that might jog my memory.) I know all who were there, but they're hard to pick out. Lynn Harrell, cellist, is visible. Michael Ouzounian, later principal violist at the Met, is in there. Jorja Fleezanis, future concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, is on the second desk behind Tania Rudensky, concertmaster here who later married Met baritone Cornell MacNeil. Two players who in 2017 achieved notoriety re their personal histories with Levine, are present. And so it goes. Interesting times. I only wish I had a hundred such photos.

Here she is with Lucia. This is wonderful info.

From John:
Turns out it's next Saturday.
:o
;D
-
From TCB:
Oh, back to lunch today. It was really wonderful. My sister has been sober for fourteen months and my brother-Ian-law has been sober for three months!
Absolutely wonderful. Vibes they continue being sober. I know your niece was also pleased.
-
JOB VIBES FOR THE NIECE OF DR TCB!
-
Yes, continued excellent sobriety vibes for the sister and brother-in-law of TCB.
-
I am hogging the internet today, but as promised, here are a few shots of the rural cemetery oft discussed.
This is about 20 minutes from my house.
-
.
-
.
-
This is the sad state of many of the older stones.
-
.
-
DR Chas thank you for sharing the photos.
-
I clicked on them to enjoy the larger view.
-
I like the nice picket fence. Is that a walking path next to it?
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe eight and a half hours of sleep.
-
Yes, continued excellent sobriety vibes for the sister and brother-in-law of TCB.
Yes! I knew there was something I wanted to congratulate DR TCB about!
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! Quiet weekend here, watching 2 good Cincinnati football teams. UC Bearcats, who played yesterday, are now #2 in the AP rankings and the Bengals are in the process of demolishing the Detroit Lions.
-
DR ChasSmith, I love your Meadowbrook photo! I only went there once with my parents and some family friends, maybe in the summer of 1970 or 1971.
-
Interesting Frances Farmer article from DR JOHN G yesterday. i didn't realize the clip of her second appearance on Ed Sullivan was on line!
Glad it was worth something.
-
Love the cemetery photos, ChasSmith. Thanks for sharing.
-
Back to Bob Hope. Now he's in drag. No words.
-
Hello, friends.
-
It's already been a long day.
-
Every cat's dream:
-
:)
-
Nice photos, past and present, DR ChasSmith.
-
A beautiful fall day here. Back from a great walk.
-
Starting I Know This Much Is True, which is six-hours long, though I don't know how much of this I can take at a time.
-
It's exceptionally well acted, but it is depressing.
-
Rehearsal went very well. I adjusted the one bit of patter that I knew she wasn't comfortable with and it's much better now. The little girl did great today.
-
Then I went to get some Panda Express - only I didn't because the car battery was dead, as I knew it would be because I knew something hadn't shut down properly but there was nothing I could do about it. So, for the first time, I pulled out the new battery charger, hooked it up and voila - started right up. So, this thing has already paid for itself and thank goodness I bought it.
-
Then I got my food and here I am, eating it and listening to Jerry Goldsmith's brilliant score to The Omen.
-
And the good news streak continues for bk!!!!!!
-
One more...
-
THREE!!!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Enjoyed the cemetery photos, Chas.
-
BK has learned lots of new skills. I've been amazed at how computer literate he's become. Even this past week he knew what to do and did it. And now that's extended to automotive issues. Dead battery? No problem.
And it that sounds a little tongue-in-cheek it's not meant that way. I know how daunting these problems can be and I really feel he's risen to the occasion. Congrats, BK!
-
I have no news.
-
Except that I've been watching MARE OF EASTTOWN. I find it rather addictive. And it makes me feel like I live a charmed life.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.
-
DR TCB have you been to Southampton, UK?
-
Such great photos from DR CHAS SMITH.
-
Nice cool weather today. Barnum is intrigued because I am in the computer room at a strange hour......
He's letting me know it is getting dark and I need to put the cover on and get out of here before it gets much darker.
-
;D
-
Bruce I am sorry you have so many unhappy customers and hope tomorrow is a very good day.
-
I need to decide what to pack for our trip to Wisconsin on Tuesday. Keith has already packed.
-
I just want to take a nap.
-
DR Jane asked:
Am I correct that you had the option of doing either Astrazeneca or Pfizer for the second dose?
Or Moderna. I chose Pfizer as that is what they had that day (or AZ). But when I tried to make an appointment for my brother-in-law for the next week only Moderna 2nd doses were available for AZ first dose.
-
Except that I've been watching MARE OF EASTTOWN. I find it rather addictive. And it makes me feel like I live a charmed life.
I felt the same as you. Glad you are, well, enjoying seems the wrong word, but I'm glad you are addicted to it.
-
Had a couple of long telephone calls, but I'm back to I Know This Much ...
Rose O'Donnell has an amazing scene with Mark Ruffalo. She's truly effective.
-
Then I made some mushroom dip to use up the rest of the mushrooms I had. I doubt what I came up with is even close to what the recipe wanted, but I am enjoying it.
-
Here it is.
-
I'm glad the new talent is working out, BK.
-

What time is the flight? I say you've got a good 40 hours at least.
-
Did anyone watch Dateline on Friday? Mom missed the end of of the story because of a tornado watch. So I Googled it for her. What a weird, weird tale.

Finished one movie and deciding what will be next.

Yes but I will be busy during the day. Packing really isn't a problem for a short trip if I know what I am taking. I have sweatshirts with cats, rabbits, and books to wear around Freyja. I think it will be warm enough for them.

:)
-
I had plans to walk to the beach with Freyja, play in the park, and just walk around their new city. It looks like it might rain the entire time :(
-
Good night, friends.
-
:)
LOL. I had hills when I walked home from school but nothing that big.
-
I didn't always walk to and from my Junior high as it was a 40 minute walk.
-
I usually walked to and from school in elementary and junior high.
-
Once Keith & I started dating he would pick me up at home and drive me back to school.
-
Considering he lived across the street from our high school that was very nice of him.
-
:)
The up slopes on the way home were even higher.
-
LOL, that they are.
-
Running to high school in the morning was much faster downhill when I needed to hustle. Many a morning I truly ran the distance.
-
It took me 20-30 minutes.
-
'night
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
Good night, Jane.
-
On to episode 5 of I Know.
-
Bought some new plants today, including iris bulbs.
-
I hope I have time to plant them tomorrow.
-
Anybody have an opinion about Samsung TVs? Best Buy is selling a 70-inch TV for less than $600.
-
I actually don’t even know if I have room for a 70-inch TV.
-
Finished with my viewing and listening to music.
-
Funniest headline today. Scariest, too.

The helper's mom is back and began shipping today. Of course, she ran out of boxes and labels, so she'll get more on Tuesday.

That's great! My sister has a couple of print-on-canvas pictures of Klimt's paintings. She really likes his work.

That's probably a pretty good deal! If I didn't already have two TVs, I'd probably look into that, myself.

I actually don’t even know if I have room for a 70-inch TV.
Aye, that's the rub. ::)

five!!!!!

Thanks to all for the good wishes for my family!

Our own little private AA meeting.
-
Great photos in the posts today.
-
I almost didn’t make it here this evening.
-
I fell asleep watching TV.
-
I have no idea how the story ended.
-
Except, I am hoping that the butler did it.
-
:(At least, I hiope there was a butler somewhere in the show
-
I never left the house today.
-
Football, Netflix, and more football.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
A heartbreaking loss for the Seattle Seahawks.
-
Today, I went to my mom's house, and she and I and her friend Mona played Scrabble.
-
A heartbreaking loss for the Seattle Seahawks.
Darn. :-\
-
It's kinda shocking that we didn't play Phase 10...but we didn't.
-
I actually came in second, but out of three players, it wasn't too difficult.
-
But I did actually get one 8-letter word for (I think) 78 points!
-
The most points that I've ever gotten was somewhere in the 90s.
-
DR TCB have you been to Southampton, UK?
No, I have not.
-
I had the word "jazzy". :)
-
I always hoped that I would sail on one of the Cunard ships between NYC and Southampton.
-
Oh well, maybe in another life.
-
Bought some new plants today, including iris bulbs.
I went to school with an Iris Bulb.
-
I was away at college when they buried her.
-
It was really a shame. I always thought of her as a late bloomer.
