I finished James Lapine's book last night, and then I watched the first act of the PBS Great Performances DVD of Sunday in the Park With George. I had watched it on VHS many years ago, but I'd never seen the DVD. I had forgotten how wonderful the show was, and it brought back so many memories: the day Steve cowered in the hall while Patricia talked to Foxy, getting high with him at an NYC Gay Men's Chorus party, gossiping with him in the balcony of Alice Tully Hall, the Sunday matinee of the Sunday in the Park workshop, disliking the third performance on Broadway and loving it several weeks after the opening, the Pulitzer win and the party at Steve's a month after that. He was such a major part of my life between 1982 and 1988 or so.

I love Panic Room, and I've only ever seen it on either cable, originally, or the DVD. It's been a mystery why it hasn't yet made it to Blu-ray. I have the regular set, and the SuperBit DVD -- but I believe it's that particular SuperBit release that's a bit (see what I did there?) of a disappointment. For some reason they either didn't Super it high enough, or it just needs a good up-to-date scan and proper transfer. But what an amazing and suspenseful film.

I am really p.o'd. about this:

I was a latecomer to Panda Express. We only had it in the local mall, and I figured it was "only" a mall type of chain and I just put off trying it. Also, in my mall-going days, I didn't apparently go there very often on an empty stomach, and I hadn't had a "mall meal" in some years. So it wasn't until just a few years ago that I had finally had it with all the recommendations, and I made a point of going in and eating it, right there, hot and fresh.

It was delicious, and I vowed to be a stranger no more.

And then Covid happened, and no one went anywhere for months. And in the meantime they were renovating the food court at the mall, and then I read that the Panda Express was closing. That was several months ago, and I just checked again, and the closest one to me now is some 25-30 miles away. I can't get their website to just give me a complete list of locations; you have to search one area at a time. Idiots. So -- a mall near Milford, CT; then Yonkers, the Bronx, and Broadway at 111th St. Those are the closest ones they give me for my zip code, damn it to HELL.

Now that the retrograde has ended:

Solutions are easier to find under this balanced energy, and it’s suddenly much easier to get others to cooperate and see things from your perspective. You also get a massive and much-needed dose of Libran charm to help you smooth things over. Even if you got to a point that you think you can’t return from, Mercury direct in Libra gives you hope that things will someday go back to “normal.”

DR JOHN G in fact my brother Dane bought one of those 70" televisions and he loves it.  It is most impressive.

He likes watching sports on it but he really likes watching SPACE movies on it.....

Of course he has room for it.

My latest purchased almost a year ago is a TLC 55" - and I might be able to go up to a 65" - but I don't think I have room for the 70" model!

So apparently Colin Powell -- public figure that he was, and therefore you'd think he would have had the greatest of protection from just about anything -- suffered from multiple myeloma, the treatment for which severely compromises the immune system.

I don't wish bad things on people (well, just a few people), but it's a bit of a relief hearing that.

DR ChasSmith, I love your Meadowbrook photo!  I only went there once with my parents and some family friends, maybe in the summer of 1970 or 1971.

I was there in 1968 and 1969, and would love to have gone back sometime just to enjoy a concert or two, but it never happened. And I'm especially sorry that those are the only times, other than a family trip through there in the late 1950s, that I've even passed through Detroit. I would like to have known it during its prime. During the summer of '68 a few of us drove down one night to see '2001' in its roadshow presentation at the Sutton Theater, and that, I am sorry to say, was my only visit downtown.

So fully vaccinated did mean Powell had a booster, however.....

"Powell suffered from a blood cancer known as multiple myeloma — precisely the kind of “immunocompromised” condition that experts have said from the start could lead to lower vaccine efficacy. In fact, the vaccines seemed to work especially poorly in patients afflicted with that type of cancer, even after a booster shot. (Powell also suffered from Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative condition.)"

Two members of the church choir I sing in, fully vaccinated, have come down with breakthrough Covid cases. They're doing OK, and it appears none of the rest of us were exposed. Still, that's a little bit close to home.

We are all fully vaccinated, and fully masked any time we are in the building. Also, we sit and sing fully spaced and distanced.  Still, these new variants are just so much more contagious.

Singdaw, have you heard of a place called Billy Sushi?

I have not, DR John G.  But it looks like it's close. And intriguing.  Hope they're still in business.

Someone on my team is going there for her birthday dinner tonight.

Computer is home. We were able to get Dropbox and Zoom on it before I left the store. And we got Word, too, but I'm completely reloading Office 365 just to have the latest and greatest. It's doing that now. Everything is working super fast, I must say. Took a bit of time to get mail working properly, but it is. Now I just have to a figure out which part of the Ethernet cable goes into the computer. For now, wireless is fine and I'll call spectrum at some point. Also, Dropbox asked if I wanted to back-up all my documents, downloads, etc, to keep them safe on Dropbox, so I'm currently doing that. We'll still set up a back-up drive to do it hourly, as well. And now, I've checked and my iTunes library is in the new Music app and I"m about to try it. Music is working fine - new Microsoft Word and stuff is installed and working.

Fascinatingly, the entire reason for all this computer merde was the fact that my external CD drive didn't work. Remember, I bought a new one and ripped apart the old one for no reason, as the new one wouldn't work either, at which point the real problems began when it was suggested to me that the reason it wasn't working was the old OS and iTunes. Well, guess what? It STILL won't work in this computer, so when and if my senior tech calls we'll get into that. It works fine with the laptop so it's something on this computer that got screwy or changed or something.

No, I have never been to Queenstown (now Cobh) or Cherbourg.  However, I have been to the Titaic’s last post of call, which very few have visited.  Granted, I was two and one-half miles above the port, but I was there.
