I am going over to The Big House for a bit with my sister.  Two of my cousins are coming by to see if they want any more kitchen stuff which has been placed in a few boxes.

I took a nice Pyrex measuring cup to replace my plastic one, just because it's prettier.

I don't know how things are where you all live, but in this town, in this state, the various forms of COVID-19 don't seem to bother most people.  There are certainly folks who go about with masks.  Most of them wear them correctly, but a few use them as chin straps only, it seems

My state just had its worst day of COVID-19 cases EVER yesterday!!

This is a first:  We got our driveway plowed early this morning by accident.

The neighbor had someone new come to do hers, and he went up the wrong one. We heard him, and assumed it was our regular guy. So later Nathan and I went out to do the snowblowing, shovel cleanup, sanding, etc. and along comes our guy. We were chatting for a minute and, in conversation, found out this was his first time here today.

So, haha. We are very fortunate in not having to pay for it, but most people pay - a lot - and I'll bet that other guy was pissed when he had to come back to do the correct driveway...for free.

It's an odd day. Everyone's home and it feels completely like a Saturday. So it's nice knowing we still have a weekend ahead of us and  tomorrow's another Saturday. Or maybe tomorrow will feel like Sunday, then we'll have another Sunday. One never knows how it will all play out.

When we lived in Michigan the second time it was the only home where we had someone who plowed regularly.  We had the option to play a flat rate for the season or each time he plowed.  We opted to go with the flat rate and not worry about it.  The guy was great about plowing.  Over the years it probably came out about even with the flat rate vs per plow.

My mother used to hire me out to shovel neighbors’ driveways, which I detested because of the cold. And she undercharged for the service. I think that has contributed to my hatred of snow.

Once I offered Craig's services to babysit when Bryan wasn't home to do it.  I thought he would be thrilled to have his first job.  Nope, he was angry at me.  Of course he had to do it anyway and I never offered his services to anyone again.  I did not set the fee though.  I expect they paid whatever they paid Bryan, though Bryan did magic tricks for the kids which they loved.

I just had the strangest little movie watching session. I went in to make sure my DVR had recorded something. Since I always leave the cable box tuned to TCM so whenever I turn it on I'm not assaulted by some horrendous thing, I checked out what was playing this evening. It was apparently a Ray Milland afternoon, and I thought I'd just sample the next movie that was about to start -- Night Into Morning (1951), which was kind of an older style weepie. Amusingly, Milland plays an alcoholic. Again. And it was pretty good. I ended up just watching it all, then the next one looked more interesting -- The Safecracker (1958), and this one was quite compelling right up to the ending which was rushed and just a bit lame in the details and the sudden wartime-style sentimental turn. But it was good to see both of them.

Quartet is turning out to be a very different movie from what I remembered. Too many people behaving badly. That I remembered, but the desperation underneath is even uglier. And all of it takes place in surroundings that are just on the verge of being shabby, despite the tuxedos and chic party dresses.

"We must keep up appearances. We must play the game," Alan Bates says, trying to justify his shoddy existence.

So sad.

I saw it three times in a month way back in the day, which was a revival at Actors Theater of Louisville before the famed Broadway revival. Anne Pitoniak was amazing, as she always was. I absolutely loved every minute of it.

She hasn't played since the week before Christmas, so I'm assuming she was exposed when she flew to visit her son back east for Christmas.

Then your mother wasn't exposed?

I don't think that any if us were exposed, at all.  She just got back from back east and left a message for my mom today saying that she just started showing symptoms.  So I think we're all safe from her.

Has anyone heard of using an egg yolk in mashed potatoes?

I've seen a couple of videos that use egg yolks, but I've never tried making them.

Am listening to "The Orgy" from "Conan the Barbarian".  It's my favorite cues from this marvelous Basil Poledouris score.

I wish you all a good night's sleep with pleasant dreams.

This movie, Just Around the Corner, has a horrible plot. The poor father has to take a job in a far-off country but he can't be married.
