Well, you've read the notes, the notes are almost cast, and now it is time for you to post until the almost cast cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUGUBRIOUS!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have no good news. Yesterday the Ohio property tax bill for the first six months of 2022 showed up. We each owe $820.00. I remain convinced that my estate will be paying these damned taxes after I am dead until the property ends up in the hands of the banks.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Last night I had a dream about Jerome Robbins's Broadway, for some strange reason.
-
It is listed in iTunes as "Jerome Robbins' Broadway." I used to do that, but I think Robbins's is actually (more) correct.

Annabelle has discovered "her" song. She and Thatch have been trying to Chasrleston to it all morning.

I am happy to report that no lugubrious pronouncements will be made by me today. It's a beautiful, if chilly, day, and I got a great night's sleep. Feeling good!
-
Who'd a thunk it!
-
It's Sunday, again.
Today I have a Zoom chat with friends.
-

Actually, the apostrophe after the "s" is grammatically sufficient to indicate the possessive, but adding the "s" is also correct.

Sunday!
Casting video vibes for MR BK!
-
Selling the property mega vibes for DR ELMORE.
That's a great song!!
-
Well.....I think DR CHAS SMITH and MR BK have already written about NIGHTMARE ALLEY class of '22, but I watched it last night and....
I liked it quite a bit. First of all it looked great - of course much of the production design was probably computer generated, but it kind of fit the story.
I though all of the lead and supporting actors did a nice job. Mr. Bradley Cooper is NOT Tyrone Power, but he seems to understand the part. Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, and even Rooney Mara were also good.
The story moved along and I liked it. The final comedown seems forced, but then again Stanton isn't the smartest guy in the world so he might go ahead and try the final stunt.....
And of course the final few moments are chilling. All in all I would recommend it to anyone who might be interested. I do not know if the Academy will take it into consideration - but I hope we get a few nominations....but if not well as Cate says: "I'll live."
-
DR JANE thanks. I kind of wish the 2017 version had followed the book then......it's the only thing I didn't like about it.
-
Amazon Fresh has delivered. All three cats have stopped dancing to fight over five empty cartons.
-
Good morning to all
-
Finally see one of my best friends after about six months of not seeing each other due to Covid. Looking forward to it
-
Good morning, all.
-
Sounds nice, Michael. Enjoy the visit.
-
I’m too tired to stir. But I must.
-
She and Thatch have been trying to Charleston to it all morning.
I would love to see that!
-
:)
-
:)
I will have to share that with some of the bank folks I work with.

Listening to the first symphony of Florence Price, a composer I was unfamiliar with. It's lush and beautiful. Superstar conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin and the Philadephia Orchestra. Symphony No. 3 is also on this disc. But later.
-
Off to brunch.
-
DR George are the masks that were dropped off to you the free ones from the government or masks your sister or her boyfriend purchased?
-
We attempted to use the free 3M masks we got at the pharmacy. They have extra cushioning at the top of the mask that goes across the nose which is exceptionally comfortable. After that, neither of us can wear the mask. The rubber straps are hard for me to strap over my head due to my shoulder, and to my hair. The straps get tangled in my hair and the bows and usually wear. For Keith, the mask is too small and tight.
-
My biggest problem with the mask, pay attention DR Jeanne, it has a chemical smell resulting in gagging and a headache :P Of course the smell didn't bother Keith. I mentioned this to our neighbor who's wife is sensitive and he told me not to mention it to her since she hadn't noticed ;D
-
From DR George:
They can be reused but should be kept in a paper bag for a few days in between uses.
We have been airing ours out and alternating them those the paper bag method is safer.
-
From George:
I got some paper lunch sacks last weekend, so with these new masks, I'll be able to use a different mask for every day of the week for several weeks, at least!
That is an excellent idea.
-
I didn't realize they were supposed to be kept in the bag that long.
-
Finally see one of my best friends after about six months of not seeing each other due to Covid. Looking forward to it
Have a nice time.

Hello everyone! There's a brand new Broadway Radio Show up on the site for your listening pleasure. Author Kevin Winkler joins me to reveal his 12 Favorite Show Tunes. It's a fun list of songs and great performances. And check out Kevin's book Everything is Choreography: The Musical Theater of Tommy Tune -- it's a great book to add to your collection!

Good -- oh, my! -- afternoon, all.
-
I've been up, but I indulged in a very leisurely morning and late breakfast and lazing around.

Is that a quarterly amount? It's $2460 per quarter? If so, that's rather incredible, considering the property. The quarterly property tax on this house, and all of those in my area, are already considered particularly outrageous, and mine's $2128 for a house on three acres in the outer rung of NYC suburbs.

Whew. Okay. Still, that damned property has got to leave the building. Uh...so to speak.

This day has been shit. I decided to start printing receipts from eBay and amazon. While things printed, I made the bed. During that I decided I needed to reinforce the books hanging over my sleeping area, at which time Annabelle decided -while I was away from the printer - to investigate the whirring typing machine ejecting pages. That screwed that project, and shethrew a wrench into the day. Then Stella shredded a roll of toilet paper, and Thatch went missing. I also kept dropping or spilling things, and after sitting in the middle of the floor, after looking everywhere, I started yelling yelling fuck fuck fuck at the top of my lungs, and then I started to wail, sobbing uncontrollably.
An hour later Thatch casually strolled out of hiding, and I wish I had a lot of hard liquor here.
-
Good morning.
-
May that day improve, and fast, DR Elmore.
-
:)
LOL!!!
-
I went out at 11 a.m to pick up some lunch at Riley's on Main. Turns out my cousin Butch and his fiancee were also there and they asked me to stay and eat with them. It was a very tasty lunch. I had succotash, rice with milk gravy, chicken tenders, roast beef in gravy, a piece of ham and a cheddar biscuit. Dessert was a bowl of ice cream.
I then returned home and fired up this here computer for my Sunday Zoom chat. That just ended a couple of minutes ago. Several participants were having tech issues, as well. It was pleasant enough, though.
Now, the day is waning, I am contemplating a nap. Or something. What that something might be I do not grasp a ce moment.

That's all I know.

Hugs, Elmore.
-
I listened to Florence Price’s third symphony when I got home from brunch. Very nice.
-
Now listening to Rose-Marie. Vocally, it doesn’t hold a candle to Julie Andrews and Georgio Tozzi. But the orchestra is wonderful, even if the sound is muted.
-
For brunch, I had fried chicken with a potato latke waffle. They left off the apple syrup and put the sour cream and bourbon apples on the side.
-
I was happy.
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep.
-
Got the chart for a new song we're adding to LA Now and Then. It replaces Jackie-O, which I've frankly never understood. The idea of it was right - a kind of surfer guy singing it, but the lyric and use of Jackie-O for anyone other than the Jackie-O we know just never did what it should have. So, I wrote a lyric that's much more surfing song/Beach Boys about Santa Monica specifically, which covers not only surfing and surfers but also Pacific Ocean Park, which certainly was a landmark here in its day. Lanny asked if he could write the tune and I said sure and he did a really good job on it - a couple of things to adjust, scan-wise, but it's catchy and VERY Beach Boys and will really be fun.

Good evening!

Vibes for DR elmore.
-
I just received an invitation to a video baby shower. I ordered the gift and accepted the invite. I am a bit concerned about actually participating when I can't hear very well. I am curious how many people there will be and how this will work.
-
Cute, it is called a baby sprinkle instead of shower. I suppose because this is the 3rd baby. They have 7 year old twins.
-
I shall now be on my way to a dinner, after which I shall return.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
She and Thatch have been trying to Charleston to it all morning.
I would love to see that!
Yes, you know the drill here: we want photographic evidence!
-

Thanks for the heads-up, Jane. I will probably stick with my Breathe Healthy allergy masks. They're comfortable, adjustable, and fit my face well. The study that says cloth makes aren't good irks me; it's such flawed science! There are many kinds of cloth masks, some clearly inferior, but others not. Breathe Healthy masks were independently tested to .1 micron, which is equivalent to an N95. The people who tout the study seem oblivious to the fit issue. As you point out, even the best masks may not fit well and we know that that diminishes effectiveness. Sigh. Some of the very people who use science to support their viewpoints ignore science when convenient.
-
The 3M mask definitely had a tight seal. I looked at the Breathe Healthy masks and they appear to have gathering at the sides to give it a better fit, still none of them appeared as if they would work for me. I am guessing your masks were not used for a study :)
Unscientifically, when I look at people in general wearing cloth, surgical, or N95 masks, those wearing an N95 mask appear to have a better seal around their faces. As you said, there are always exceptions.
-
Jane, I believe the NY Times still allows non-subscribers 10 free article each month.
If anyone missed this on coping skills it's really sweet.

You might need a child-size mask.

I wear the Bluna kids KF94 mask from South Korea.

PS to John G:
In addition to the sections in The Bravest Voices on opera singers and extractions from a hostile Germany, I loved the stories from the night watch in the East End during the blitz. I've both read and viewed many stories from WWII, but I'd never heard about this. I thought that shelter stays were relatively short. Ida Cook was indeed a very brave woman!

I'm surprised more masks don't come in different sizes. Kids come in many sizes, too!

That part of the book reminded me a little of the movie, Hope and Glory, which I absolutely love.
-
Listened to some fine music today while finishing up a project. Started a box set of Saint-Saens complete symphonies, which I've only recently started listening to. Beautiful stuff.
-
Now watching A Royal Scandal with Tallulah as Catherine the Great. The movie was billed as being Ernst Lubitsch's. He produced it, but it was directed--and terribly so--by Otto Preminger. Every moment is flat and false.

I was considering reading this next, then a couple of other books became available from my library. I hope to read it some time this month.

DR JANE!
-
I think you asked about cat food yesterday.
I am having trouble finding my Kit'n Kaboodles - which is what I had been putting in the front porch bowl for months.....so earlier this month I bought a generic kind..... The neighborhood stray cat eats it, but I am sure he wonders what happened to his gourmet treat.
I am hoping it will be back on the shelf sometime this spring.
-
Well I mailed my check to pay my credit card on Jan 15 and it never got there....and didn't come back.
Now I receive my statement with interest & a charge on it.....I suppose I have to pay.....but what did the post office do with my check?
I guess I talked about this before.....I just kept hoping I would get a "Your Payment Posted" email....and I guess if it shows up, I'll get a credit.....bummer.....
-
What have we come to? :)
-
Good night, friends.
-
I first read The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie back in high school. I'm sure I didn't understand a thing about it. I've started listening to it and, while I remember some things, it's fresh and new and wonderful.
-
I don’t know what happened to today, but it went by faster than wind from a duck’s ass.
And that's quackin' fast.
-
Can we get off this page soon?
-
Maybe.
-
I have put a pot of lentils on the stove. It smells wonderful. I'll enjoy tomorrow.
-
One more.
-
Four!
-
Tallulah's line readings in this movie most closely resemble those of Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion.
-
The lentils are done. And they are wonderful.
-
But, as the recipe says, they'll be better tomorrow.
-
Starting Last Night in Soho. I know I won't finish it tonight.
-
Edgar Wright is an interesting director, though I haven't bought his work completely. Baby Driver was more clever than wholly successful, IMO. I liked The Sparks Brothers and was pleased he didn't cut away from the music for the talking heads.
-
Nice to see Rita Tushingham again.
-
Back from a fun dinner at Genghis Cohen. Food wan't quite up to the usual greatness - I think there's a different chef on Sunday, so I don't think Sunday will be the day I go there anymore.

I haven't noticed this in any of the N95 masks that I've used.

It's from a play called The Beauty Part (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beauty_Part).

Sounds like an interesting play. :)
-
So yesterday, my sister's boyfriend dropped of some more masks for me, as well as a couple of Covid tests.
-
After my Zoom union meeting, I took the first of the two tests.
-
The result was NEGATIVE! :D
-
For the first time in THREE WEEKS, I felt confident enough to go to my mom's for the family dinner and card playing.
-
So, I went and had dinner (spaghetti and meatballs) and played Phase 10 (my niece won).
-
I came home and before ketchuping on today's posts, I took the other test.
-
t was a completely different kind from the others that I had taken...this one required an app and a battery powered test device.
-
Anyway, after figuring it all out, the result of this test was...
-
NEGATIVE, ALSO! ;D
-
I'll definitely still wear masks and be cautious, but I don't think I'll have to refrain from regular daily activities, like going out to lunch, like I have this past week.

I went out at 11 a.m to pick up some lunch at Riley's on Main. Turns out my cousin Butch and his fiancee were also there and they asked me to stay and eat with them. It was a very tasty lunch.
