Well, you've read the notes, the notes shouted, "Rick! Rick!", and now it is time for you to post until the Rick! Rick! cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WAKA!
-
Here is a waka:
I went on a walk
On the walk I saw a hen
The hen spoke no word
Nor did I dare speak a word
And so, not one word was heard.
-
Topic of the Day: Little Shop of Horrors (of course), and Bucket of Blood. Ten years ago (has it really been ten years??) Theater Artists Olympia adapted their own stage version of BoB and it was really good, if I do say so myself, and I do. :)
-
I expect some other waka attempts.
-
One simply cannot have enough wakas. Or is it wakae?
-
I'm on disc five of the Orpheus set, following the baroque of Vivaldi and Boccherini. Disc five is all Copland and is one of the best albums ever - first time hearing any of these performances and they are magnificent - but it's also the recording itself - so far, this entire set is brilliantly produced and engineered. Interestingly, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has no conductor, which makes these performances even more amazing. First off, the Appalachian Spring in its original version is stunning, best version I've ever heard and I can say the same about the third symphony. But it's all glorious.
-
Une autre waka.
I once had a fish
And I kept it in a bowl
The fish had one wish
To be star up in the sky
But the fish did not know why
-
Good morning, friends.

Here is a waka:
Haines His Way is a
Family of friendly folk.
We laugh, sing, and dance.
An oasis of calming
From the world's ignominy.

A waka waka waka woo!
-
Good morning, all!

I hate getting out of a warm bed on chilly morning, so I slept in 45 minutes and got out ofr bed around 6:30, once the apartment heat came on and the room was warmer.
-
DR George, I think I may have an orchestration on that 42nd Street recording, unless Mr Yap redid it with someone else. It was an appendix number, and I did that ages ago,
-
BK, you might know the answer to this: if I wanted to make a complete recording of a show and needed to apply for grand rights, how much would that cost?
-
Last night we watched Belfast, which I liked very much, and I may rewatch it tonight. It's Kenneth Branagh's autobiographical film, set in 1959, during the Protestant-Catholic civil war in Ireland. Branagh's counterpart is 9-year old Buddy, and for the most part the film is seen through his eyes, so we get news of the conflict and stress in fragmented bits on TV and overhearing others as he spends time with his grandparents - Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds, who are wonderful - endures school, and hangs out at the movies.
I need to watch it again, just to figure out who's who in the family, friends, and thugs promoting the violence. The actors playing Buddy's parents are quite good. His father is workingh in London and returns to Belfast only on weekends, and his mother has to cope with a shitload of stress: taxes, housekeeping, and keeping her children safe from the violence. I have no idea how to spell or pronounce her name, but she's excellent. The father has to deal with the problems of being away all week and having to deal with the pressure of jopining the Protestant thugs who want to stomp Catholic butts.
My only caveat is that a few of the movie clip we see on Buddy's moviegoing are not from 1959-60, but High Noon becomes rather important to the main storyline. I would love to see Belfast on a huge screen in a dark theater, but I'm so happy to have the DVDS.

Joshie is coming by this afternoon to drop off some papers I need for budgeting these possible recordings. I look forward to seeing him.

Good morning to all

Good morning, all.

Horrible night’s sleep. The thunder started around midnight and it sounded like hail in addition to some heavy rain.
-
I haven’t investigated yet.
-
It rained last night.

Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.

Thinking of traveling?

In my sleep last night
I dreamed of several things.
None of them came true.
Still, I am haunted by them
As if they were very real.
-
When you get older
Loss becomes part of your life.
You never expect it.
But you know it is coming,
And nothing can stop the hurt.
-
And on that cheerful note...
-
...it is time to turn the page.
-
I started page 2,
A very good place to be.
More posts will follow
With lists and hilarity
Enough to please everyone.

Dealing with my vision plan
Is like dealing with monkeys
I do all that I can
But they still make me
Want to gouge my eyes out

Is that cheery enough for a Tuesday morning?

Cheery-Oh! Good morning.

Good morning, from the car place!

Good morning, from the car place!
Is it called Rick! Ricks!?

This is for the second of two maintenance things I needed to have done. It was hard for them to get the part for this, but that finally happened and so here I am. And here we are.

Cast vibes, and more cast vibes, for BK. Oh my.

Golly! What a slow day here at HHW.com
My previous post was more than two hours ago.

I hope all is well
with assorted and sundry;
The silence is odd
even though it's a Tuesday.
I hope it isn't my breath!

Death and fortune:
-
The gloomy gray skies and fog seem to have ported from South Carolina to the Twin Cities.
-
Oh, well. I'm inside working, anyway.
-
There's a lot of WAKA WAKA going on here today!
-
And that is a good thing.
-
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is another story, however.
-
I wonder if Rikki-Tikki-Tavi ate taffy?
-
I wonder if Lucy ever said, "Ricky, Ricky!"
-
I wonder if Ricky ever drank a lime rickey?
-
These are the things I ponder.
-
I ponder as I wonder.
-
Eating Wonder Bread.
-
This is just silly.
-
But I have a method in my madness.
-
Oh yes, I do.
-
I do, I do!
-
Because - PAGE THREE!
-
We are having a very nice, sunny day in South Carolina.
We had to send all that doom and gloom to DR Singdaw so it would offset his personal cheerfulness.
-
Of course, now that I have come back, there is nary sign of hide nor hair of any other soul.
Sigh.
-
This has been quite a social day. Joshie arrived aroud 1:45 and stayed for an hour and a half. It was a nicew visit, but he brought news of a mutual friend who is dying from pancreatic cancer, and that really upset me.
-
Then, after he left and I fed the cats, I returned my brother Randy's call from around 1:00. He says we just a=lost a buyer for the property because the city will not let the buyer park large trucks on it.
-
Sorry about your friend, Elmore.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
elmore, I shouldn't think it would cost anything up front, just would be working out a royalty deal.

I'm very sorry, Larry. :(

Very sorry, DR elmore3003, for the news on both fronts.

Sounds good.
-
Thanks DR singdaw that play sounds right up my alley.
I remember Levant on the Friday night Paar show.....he was always smoking or fumbling for matches to light a cigarette. I also liked his book a lot.....he once said his favorite review was of a concert he gave wherein the critic said: "Last night Mr. Levant left his contemporaries and his conductor far behind."
I remember one night when he and Paar were talking and Paar mentioned that Judy Garland would be a guess, Levant said: "She's one ahead of me on commitments, but I'm one ahead of her in suicide attempts."
-
Cold weather and rain all day.
I got an email from my garbage collectors that they are a truck down and that my route didn't start until 1 p.m. Please leave my trash down by the street.....they'll get to it eventually.
-

Thanks, BK. That's very helpful and encouraging. Tomorrow I'll make some calls. I need amounts for the budgets I'm preparing for the proposal. I want something on paper, as a precaution.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I picked up my tax return today and had a little chat with the preparer. Thankfully, I owe less than I estimated and a lot less than I feared. I was so distracted that I completely forgot to stop at the Beverlywood Bakery! No rugelach for me today.
-
Jane, I am now in season 2 of THE BAY. It is very good--good writing, strong cast, just well done overall. Highly recommended.
-
I'm feeling a big sense of relief that I wasn't expecting. Partly getting my taxes done, but partly having my latest outpatient surgery behind me. It was a lot at once.
-
I'd like to take a few Me Days for R&R.
-
DR Elmore, sorry about your friend. It's so hard to lose our friends.
-
I have nothing more to report.
TTFN.

Sorry. It is nice to know though that they definitely are not closing.

I hope you do not have more surgeries ahead of you.

Today I found on Facebook this article on Belfast.I'm surprised how much of it reflects my feelings on the film.

elmore, and anyone else who orders pet food online, be very careful when ordering from Amazon. Last week, I ordered (I thought) a case of the Fancy Feast (grilled whitefish and tuna). The price was higher than the price on Chewy, but since Chewy charges taxes and shipping, I figured it would work out about the same. The package arrived yesterday, and it was a half case (12 cans) rather than an entire case. I went back online to Amazon, and sure enough, the listing now says 12 cans, not 24. The half case on Amazon cost me $23.96, no delivery fee; and the whole case on Chewy was $17.16, plus $4.95 delivery and $2.00 tax for a total of $24.11, but Chewy was twice the number of cans. And if your Chewy order is more than $50.00, there is no delivery fee.
Buyer beware!

It felt soooo good to get out of our winter rain clothes for our afternoon walk. The sun felt heavenly.
-
Then we returned home to very sad news that a dear friend passed away. He was 49 days younger than I am, and 86 days older than Keith. We went to high school with his wife, and I went to Jr. High with both of them.
-
Curious where the unusual name of Touch Connors came from I googled him. Touch was the nickname given to him by his high school basketball teammates. I have no idea where the name Connors came from, just that he regretted not keeping his birth name Ohanian. I think Touch Ohanian would have worked well together.
-
Very sorry for your loss, DR Jane.
-
Thank you.
-
'night
-
I'm afraid I don't have a lot to say at the moment.
-
Which is probably a great relief to many of you.
-
I am enjoying Paul Ford's book, but he could have used an editor.
-
Good night, friends.
-
I am enjoying Paul Ford's book, but he could have used an editor.
I’m looking forward to it.
-
73 other books come first.
-
Maybe only 72.
-
Back to the countertenor and act II of Il Giasone. The plot is ridiculous—nobody liquidates the children. But the music is beautiful. A lot of harpsichord. And the staging is silly in a good way.
-
I’ve started a hard-hitting documentary called Not Going Quietly. Ady Barkin has ALS and is speaking out against GOP efforts to kill the ACA, defund health, etc., while he still has a voice.
-
I can’t watch it all in one sitting and I know it’s going to make me mad.
-
I got a new work laptop today. Of course, I’ve had to spend the last two hours making sure everything works, so that I can work in the morning.
-
I have to return the old laptop, which is one inch larger than the new one, so it didn’t fit in the box. And I have to mail it back in two days. Or else.
-
Very irritating. But a minor problem compared with the stuff in the movie.
-
Good night, all.
-
Back from a rough run-through, missing four or five people - but we got through it at least.
-
I completely restaged one of the new songs and am restaging one of the old ones tomorrow.
-
Page FOUR???
-
Is this a bad joke?
-
Is this a revoltin' development?
-
Is this reality?
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
I believe George's show closed so he should be making with the posts.
-
And TCB - we need a little dose of TCB.
-

I bought the 8-"disc" digital download of A Rhapsody in Blue - The Extraordinary Life of Oscar Levant (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07GJ1WK8H/ref=docs-os-doi_0).
-
It's $25 now, but I got it when it was on sale for only $9.99. :)

Hi, Tom.
-
The Oscar Levant play sounds exciting.
-
It sounds like something that PBS should record.
-
It sounds like something that PBS should record.
That would be cool.
-
I loved him on Jack Paar, but he scared the hell out of me.
-
Well, at least our boys showed up.

Notes are up.

Up are notes.
-
Is this site a bit slow tonight?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Hi, George.
-
Yes, it takes a beat to post.
-
Notes are up.
Can't wait to read 'em. :)
