Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the glory days, and now it is time for you to post until the glory cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BALLYHOO!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Last night while I was cleaning up the cats' dishes, my cell phone rang. It was a number I did not know, so I called it, and a woman picked up the phone. I asked who it qwas, and it turned out to be a friend from grad school whom I have not seen since around 1977 or so. A mutual friend had given her my number, and we talked for over an hour, catching up.
-
I did not watch the Oscars. I haven't watched in over tn years. I see few movies and these days I won't take a walker into a movie theatre, and I stopped giving a damn about the awards. I look forward to seeing CODA.
-
Access-a-Ride will pick me up around 8:30 for my 9:00 lab tests.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I think I gave up awards shows about the time I gave up TV.
-
In Camera Man, the author talks about the Oscars as having been created by the studios to control their contracted artists better. If a certain type of prestige picture won, they could convince more people to work on similar projects.
-
I also don’t like the 10 nominees instead of five. Too many.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I watched Coda early on (from home), but haven't seen any other movie. And it was past my bedtime.
-
:)
-
Good morning!
-
Good morning, all.
-
ChasSmith, thanks for the photos.
-
I think it's been three years since I've watched the Oscars. Last year I tuned in for about ten minutes to see a little bit of the train wreck in Union Station (see what I did there?), and just couldn't take it. But the writing was on the wall as of three or four years ago.
I've now seen some of the "highlights" of last night, and what a disaster. A few of the newer people are fine actors and all, but their presence doesn't hold a candle to what we used to know as star power. Kevin Costner seemed like a mummy dusted off for ... I'm not sure what reason. The appearance of Coppola, De Niro, and Pacino -- holy cow. Only Coppola was allowed or prepared to speak, and the other two looked like they weren't sure why they were there, like they've already gone over the hill. Which brings us to the spectacle of Liza Minelli who very clearly was unable to cope with either the reading of names or of holding a thought together to form a whole sentence. Ghastly. What were they thinking? How is this celebratory in any way, or in any way respectful to her? I don't have any real affection for Lady Gaga, but I have to agree that she did a masterful job, even if it had to be sadly obvious, of humanely guiding her through the whole ordeal.
-
ChasSmith, thanks for the photos.
De nada.
-
See how I can talk Southern Texan? Pretty impressive, eh?
-
Yes I enjoyed the theeder photos very much DR CHAS SMITH.
-
Please. Bring back the days of Brando scandalously sending Littlefeather to accept his award, and David Niven getting upstaged by a streaker. Is that so much to ask?
-

Si.

I miss the HHW OSCAR PARTY!
I was fast and furious around here and pages turned like Niagara Falls.
TOD:
When the acceptance speeches became political rants or preaching to us about the environment...... And of course with the movies now on screen.....on tv......steaming.....WTH - I don't even know half of them.
AND last night when it seemed certain that the two biggest awards would go to folks whose performances I just did not like.....I didn't even bother.
Will Smith has annoyed me for decades - well his wife has, too.... And Jessica Chastain brought NONE of the warmth of Tammy Faye Bakker to her performance. I don't care how many pieces of rubber you put on your face and how much makeup you put on.....if you don't have a heart, you don't have a person.
I am sorry i missed the kick line during the In Memoriam section, but I'm sure it will show up sooner or later.
When I turned on my phone - it was blowing up with posts about Will and Chris.....which was exactly why that fame whore would do such a thing...... And of course it's the first hit he's had in years.....
HAHAHAAHAHAH......that's an old Rona Barrett joke from when she reported that Fabian had slapped his wife.....
-
....or maybe it was said by Ruth Buzzi as her Hollywood Reporter character on Laugh-In......she was hilarious.
-
In one week, I start returning to the office.

LOL I was wondering what you were talking about, regarding Smith vs Fabian.

DR John is there a website for Allora? I am curious to see the menu.
-
I am waiting to see the full clip of what happened last night. Supposedly Smith laughed until he saw his wife was upset. Did Chris know she has alopecia? I suspect not.

Here you go, Jane.

Onward!

About the Oscars: A few years ago, a brouhaha erupted over lack of diversity. Since then, the Academy has gone overboard, and crash-landed with a thud, in attempting to be more "woke". There, I've used a word I believe to be representative of much of the ill will and divisiveness in today's society.
There is literally no excuse for the trashiness of the Oscars we have had the past couple of years. The "In Memoriam" segment last night was horrendously ill-conceived.
That said, I also wish for the olden days of stars (real ones, not the popular music ones) making the presentations with an appropriate host.
I can at least take pleasure in having seen many decades of decent ones. Those are no more.
-
Someone quipped that the 2022 Oscar fashions could be summed up by "Welcome to My Boobs."
-
So true...

Monday
morning afternoon greetings! Sorry to be E & T lately. My sister, niece, and I were signed up for another, bigger, virtual crafting event this past weekend. It required a lot of prep and included 4 days of teacher meet 'n' greets. It was all great fun until Thursday, when my sister took her husband to the hospital. He was admitted with an infection of unknown origin and spent the weekend having tests. Nancy and Laura were able to watch the class videos during that dreaded hospital down time, but they were not able to craft along.
-
Today's Wordle was another one that could have had MANY solutions. It's always a crap shoot when you have all but the first letter, and five or six other letters could be the first one
-
I am going to see my chiropractor this afternoon.

I agree.

Thanks, DR Ron. They think they've found the source of the infection and that's responding to treatment. But the problem may require surgery and they're waiting for a decision on whether or not that can wait until they're back home in Michigan after wintering in Florida.

Bucatini vongole. Clams and prosciutto with housemade pasta.

Panna cotta with a red wine gelee

We have a new Jersey Mike's that just opened, and I'm going there now to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one-free offer that expires today. I should actually have done that a few times already, as they ran it for several days, but I was just too damn busy to try to work it in.
I like their food, but I normally find it too expensive to be a regular thing. So this works.
-
No pictures, but I made Cincinnati Chili last night. Gold Star this time. It was just what the doctor ordered.
I'm down to two cans of Skyline and one more of Gold Star.
And I'm down to half a dozen Vernors! What the hell's going on here, anyway? I must plan a car trip westward sometime soon.
-
Lotsa food photos!
-
I could not sleep last nioght. I'm guessing that I got at most about four hours. When I finally got home from my lab work, I had to get breakfast, deal with the catas' doshews amd litter, and fresh hell from Citibank that I hope is now resolved.
-
I think I will sleep well tonight. Tomorrow I must go in for an ultrasound test.

Mmmm...Jersey Mike's. ;D

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of great sleep. Freshly laundered sheets always help, but last night was the first night in ages with no tummy issues, no allergies (took the twenty-four hour pill), and I probably could have slept until two.

Here you go, Jane.
Thanks. There are a number of dishes I would try. I was hoping to find the stacked eggplant appetizer we had in Sorrento & in Rome. I do not care for eggplant parmigiana, and even though the dish is similar, the stacked version was incredibly delicious.

It sounds a bit scary. When did they plan to leave Florida?
Vibes for your brother in-law.

The link DR George shared last night only showed a portion of the Rock/Smith problem.
After watching this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myjEoDypUD8) it seems to me Rock intended his comments as a compliment. Smith did initially laugh. The rest was really uncalled for and not the way to have handled it. Rock seems to have kept his cool.

Maybe when they’re in season.

Let’s move on …

Damn a lot.
-
Incidentally, on this day in 1963, Alfred Hitchcock's iconic film The Birds was released.
-
Nice photos, DR John G.
-
Good afternoon.
-
Elmore, I saw the article about Camelot. Then I checked the upcoming tour shows.
Most of them have already been here. I'm not much interested in the rest. That's pretty much how I've felt the last several seasons.
I guess I've gotten old; I seem to prefer to see the standards and not the new things.
-
I don't love the biographical shows. That seems to be a big trend now.
-

I was to see some mashups, like Ain’t too Beautiful to Cher.
-
I am softening my opinion on the Lady Gaga & Liza Minelli thing. It actually seems to affected people in a warmer way than I had thought.
-
Had California Chicken Cafe for food - one breast, one wing, no pita.
-
One Breast, One Wing, and No Pita is the title of my next novel.

:)

One breast one wing and no pita sounds like a medical report.
-
The pollen count here in Johnston SC is high as a elephant's eye.
All I have to do is look out a window, and I start sneezing.
-
A day of irritations.....but it shall pass.
-
I have one more chicken patty to eat and then I can plan the Menu for Tuesday.
-
I am thinking glop.
-
I love Italian antipasti!
I also love eggplant parmigiano.
-
We all have different tastes.
-
A day of irritations.....but it shall pass.
May it do so without any hint of constipation.

I am leaving soon for my book group discussion.

CBS News did a big segment on the Will Smith slap of Chris Rock, plus the profanity shouts.
Some predict the Academy will punish Smith in some way, but few think it might result in a loss of his Oscar.

The Oscar is about his work. I would be shocked it taking is even considered. My guess they won't give him prime seating next time.

My book discussion group made for a nice evening out.

'night

Oh, my. :-\
-
Oh, look! It's Page Four!
-
I am now in Centralia, sitting in my car in the parking lot of Evergreen Playhouse, waiting for my Covid test to show its results. ::)
-
Evidently, they're going to test every week...good for them!
-
However, hopefully we won't need to get here in time to get results BY 6:30 because I (normally) work until 6:00 or so, and it about 25 minutes to get here from Tumwater.

I am leaving soon for my book group discussion.
And what was this read?

Maybe they'll force him to host next year. I'd say that would be a punishment.

Back from dancing. It was a workout tonight.
-
All those calories from last night fought me every step of the way tonight.
-
Gratuitous post 100!
-
I need to go play with the bird.
-
I wonder if Kelli O'Hara will play Guinevere in Wham-Bam-alot.
-
Given Aaron Sorkin's verbosity, I wonder if there'll be room for any songs.
-
Don't diagram the grammar of that sentence. Please.
-
I'm getting tired.
-
Sorry, TCB, but I can't hang on to bring is to page five.
-
But I did get us past the halfway mark of this page.
-
And that's all he wrote.
-
Good night, all.
-
I stopped watching the Oscars live when they went up to 10 nominated films a year and I also found that song nominated I’ve also been poor. I collected every single song I was ever nominated up until six years ago. The nadir in my opinion for that category was when the song it’s hard to be a pimp one and most of the songs went over the end titles just so they can get a nomination. The songs have no relation to what the film was about. I tape in and fast forward through them just to see if there’s anything interesting to watch
-
I'm back from our first rehearsal for Mamma Mia!
-
It was supposed to be a read-through, but for some reason, we learned four songs.
-
Back from our sitzprobe, about which more in the notes. Having sushi - just avocado and rice.
-
Tomorrow, the scenes in between the songs will be blocked.
-
I have two lines at the end of the show as the priest who is supposed to marry Sophie and Sky, so the director said that she'll start with that scene so that I can leave right away.
-
When I got there, they had all the Covid tests waiting to be used.
-
I was told to swab my nose for the test, set a timer for 20 minutes, then go wait in my car...so I did.
-
The test was negative, do I was allowed to go into the theater and join the rehearsal.
-
And now...
-
five ! ! ! ! !
-
The Academy considered ejecting Will Smith from the awards ceremony. That is what would have happened if some non-star had stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock.
-
I think that would have been the perfect answer.
-
When his name was announced, Jada would had to collect the award in her husband’s absence.
-
Unless she had left with her husband.
-
Then Venus and Serena would have had to accept it.
-
In the past, BK, you have always promoted the Oscar-bash at HHW for several days in advance.
-
This year I didn’t read anything about it, so figured you were too busy with your show.
-
I watch the Oscars every year, even that weird version last year.
-
I watched Sunday night, but I saw no need to sign in here.
-
I actually came here for a minute, but there was zero posters, and we were on early page three.
-
So, I didn’t stay.
-
The Oscar Bash never had much todo with the awards, or whether or not we had seen any of the movies.
-
The Bash was always about slamming the women’s gowns and the acceptance speeches
-
Laughing at each other’s jokes and just having fun together.
-
Oh well, I enjoyed the show. Maybe next year.
-
There will always be a next year.
