Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of things I did on Saturday, and now it is time for you to post until the Saturday cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CARAPACE!
-
Good morning, all!
-
My ordeal yesterday did not kill me, and I slept extremely well last night.
-
In high school Latin, we translated the orations of Cicero against the plot to overthrow the Roman government in 63BC or so. Then there's Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. In both cases, the conspirators were dea;t with, as was the tracking down, trials and executions of the Lincoln assassination. I bring all this up becvause No. 45 and his insurrectionists walk freely around, thumbing their noses at the ones who would see them tried and punished, and making plans for a more successful coup next time around. As far as I'm concerned, No. 45 should be executed for the large number of Covid deaths his arrogance, ignorance, lies, and apathy he was responsible for.
I would very much like to seeThe Great Hack.
-
Yesterday’s visit with Vixdad was very nice
-
I was allowed to be in the ICU from 12 to 6
-
Today, I must make up for lost time yesterday. Joshie is working on two events happening ewithin days of each other, the Irish Rep Gala and a 92nd St Y concert, so I'm proofreading scores for him. I lost half a day yesterday, so I have much to accomplish today.
-
The camera doctor came in and said that the camera didn’t make it all the way to the end of its journey before the battery died
-
Usually the patient is encouraged to walk about to aid in the cameras movement but that hadn’t been possible since Vixdad was still so unsteady so we had an incomplete picture
-
However no bleed was discovered .
-
I think the catrs walking all over my keyboard hjave done something to my iTunes, which have suddenly begun
shuffling my playlist, jumping from a track of Schubert's Mass in F to New Girl In Town. I hope I've now corrected it.
-
The bleeding seems to have stopped though, his vitals were good, blood pressure in the normal range, his color and strength were returning and he finally was given real food to eat
-
Good morning, friends.
-
All positive signs, DR vixmom. Thanks for the update. Continued prayers.
-
He even took a couple of laps around the ward, using a walker, with a nurse and me along as spotters
-
So at 5 they decided to move him to a regular room
-
I should like to hear Schubert's score for New Girl in Town.
-
Off to Oz for the morning.
-
Once he was all set up and comfortable the house doctor came in and went over all his vitals etc and said if everything continued looking good that Vixdad may be released today
-
So after church I will be checking in with the hospital to see what’s what
-
I may give a call to my good neighbor, Mike , to see if he would be kind enough to drive me to the hospital because Vixdad’s car is still sitting in the parking lot there and I certainly don’t think he should be driving himself home
-
Thank you all for the vibes and prayers and support, it means a lot
-
I was so sorry to hear about Jacks spill. I hope you are feeling better today and don’t have any residual aches and pains from the tumble
-
Pain free vibes for TCB as well
-
I was glad to hear your mission was finally accomplished Elmore, I’m sorry I couldn’t be of assistance this time around.
-
I caught up but I’m afraid in my excitement about Vixdad possibly coming home today it’s all in a jumble so I am sending vibes to those who need them and congratulations to those who deserve them and hugs all around
-

We are playing this morning. During practice, I made the same mistake twice. I need to wake up.

The bleeding seems to have stopped though, his vitals were good, blood pressure in the normal range, his color and strength were returning and he finally was given real food to eat
That is fantastic news! Will they move him from ICU to a room?
-
So at 5 they decided to move him to a regular room
Well. that answered my question. Excellent!
-
My playlist shuffle has ceased, so I must have done something right.
-
DR vixmom, your offer to drive in and notarize thatpower of attorney was very kind. I almost called you to say, come in and let's have dinner when all that taxi-sunstroke-blood sugar tsuris happened. I'm so happy now that I did not make a date with you. Let's do it soon, though.

The power did, indeed, go out last night, but my portable HALO generator worked very well. I only used it for the CPAP as it wasn't particularly warm last night.
I did wake up once and figured it was all the quiet. I recall the power being restored about 3:12 a.m. or so. My fan came on and I pulled a cover over me.
I feel refreshed, but a big sluggish mentally.
The generator ran my CPAP for 8 hours or so. When I unplugged the CPAP to put it back into a wall outlet, my generator still had 40% of its power. It served its purpose well, but won't handle more than a CPAP, I reckon.
-
Good morning.
-
So glad to hear Vixmom's good news.
-
My goodness. We have all been together on this site so long that we have become old people together.
-
Vibes to us all for our assorted aches and pains.

Wonderful news about vixdad!
And of course don't let him start driving yet! :)

I wanted to comment on vixmom's post about the 24-hour diners being closed at night. This is a very sad development, and I can only hope that, in the long run, it's still just a temporary thing.
Of the diners in my immediate vicinity, only a few have been 24-hr ones in recent years, and I haven't known their status since the beginning of the pandemic because I'm also one who has only been in one or two sit-down restaurants this whole time, and neither of those was a diner. There are more 24-hour diners as you get closer to the city, and I haven't been by many of those, either. But this is such a major segment of the eating culture in the northeast, that it would really be tragic if these changes became permanent.
I know from previous conversations that many of our denizens here don't totally "get" what we're talking about, and the closest thing I can think of to compare would be the classic Southern California coffee shops. And so many of those great ones I knew are long gone. But even they didn't have the comprehensive menus of which vixmom speaks that you find in the prime NY-NJ-CT diners.
-
I'd be very interested to see a few of these documentaries that BK posts about, but I also know what they would do to my blood pressure. :)
-
I like 24 hour diners - they are a godsend to theatre folk who want a meal after a show/strike.....
We still have a few in Indy.....but none in my town....and certainly none left in Greencastle where our theatre is.
-
Such good news from DR VIXMOM - continued vibes!
-
DR JEANNE is correct - a sandwich without bread is not a sandwich....
A leaf wrap? What am I - a rabbit?
-
Gas price check from Friday:
Regular - $4.899
Premium - $5.049
-
Thanks to all for the vibes.....I am feeling a bit queasy this morning for some reason....and my left wrist is very sore....but all in all - not bad. I shall not complain.
-
On Friday when I was at the Goodwill I found two CDs.....
Sense & Sensibility by Patrick Doyle
Pride and Prejudice from A/E tv by Carl Davis
Both of the soundtracks were most enjoyable.
-
I also read Tom Stoppard's translation of The Seagull which I enjoyed very much.
My friend Caroline - the director of OLIVER! - is going to direct it next spring at DePauw and intimates that she would like me to be in it.....I would guess that the only role for me is Sorin - the old crab....but it would certainly be interesting.
I have NEVER EVER appeared in, directed, or done tech for a play by Chekov.
-
Wonderful news about Vixdad!!

And congrats to Vixmom and John on their easily solved Wordles!

Facebook memories can be fun.

Five years ago today we had dinner at Factor's with DR Jeanne and Bruce :)
-
I was allowed to be in the ICU from 12 to 6
I often stayed that long with my father when he was in ICU. Of course that was before covid. I'm glad you had a nice long visit.
-
The camera doctor came in and said that the camera didn’t make it all the way to the end of its journey before the battery died
:o
Of all the possible issues I read about the camera that was not one of them.
-
Usually the patient is encouraged to walk about to aid in the cameras movement but that hadn’t been possible since Vixdad was still so unsteady so we had an incomplete picture
That must be frustrating.

Excellent.

At least it handled your CPAP, however, including your refrigerator would be good.

From TCB:
Why would they want to give a perk to the employees? They have a captive customer base, they can charge as much as they please.
A perk from the company to the employees.
-
DR TCB I am sorry your pain is worst.
-
I also read Tom Stoppard's translation of The Seagull which I enjoyed very much.
My friend Caroline - the director of OLIVER! - is going to direct it next spring at DePauw and intimates that she would like me to be in it.....I would guess that the only role for me is Sorin - the old crab....but it would certainly be interesting.

The Seagull is my favorite Chekhov play. Is it Sorin who tells the doctor that Konsantin is dead in the last act or does the doctor tell Sorin? I forget. I would love to see that DePauw production if you're in it.

It is a beautiful Sunday, yet I am instead messaging with multiple people ;D

Finishing up a book called A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: In Which Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading and Life. It’s about short stories by Chekov, Turgenev, Tolstoy and Gogol. Surprisingly nimble, given the overlong and pedantic title, and fascinating.

But you can also understand why I slept.

DR ELMORE it is the doctor who tells the writer Trigorin that Konstantine is dead......
I will always remember the time in the late 1960's when Sandy Dennis was for some reason appearing on the 50-50 Club with the puerile Bob Braun......he asked her about reviews....and she said:
"Well... I was in a production of 'Three Sisters' [which I'm sure Braun had never heard of] and one critic wrote that 'Sandy Dennis went after her part like a monkey looking for a banana'.....I don't think it was a compliment...."
And Braun just started talking about Tyson Chicken....
-
Two show closing day vibes for DR GEORGE & Co.
-
Goddam, Amazon! Even qwirth inflation you're gouging customers. I love these Cadbury Fruit & Nut bars. In 2020 and 2021, I paid around $26.00 for a box of 14 bars. Today, Am,azon is charging $46.00+ for the very same item. WTF?

My mother, her sisters, my cousins, brother Macbeth and I were on the 50-50 Club. It took forever to get the tickets. Ruth Lyons actually asked me a question, and I have no idea now what it was or what I said. I was around 10 at the time.

I've had this happen several times. You've probably already verified this, but make sure you're looking at the same seller you bought from before - whether it was Amazon.com or someone else. The first seller that comes up for me is Global Wholesale Inc. whose price at this very moment is $42.53.

I just read a very interesting book about Lyons, DR ELMORE.....I'm surprised you weren't mentioned.

Oh that is wonderful news, DR vixmom!

It occurred to me that given the price of gas it was unfair to ask him to drive me and I know he wouldn’t accept cash, so I asked him to ride along with me and then drive my van home which he agreed to do without hesitation

So there's that.

Hope DR vixdad can get some good rest now.

I'm up, I'm up - guess I needed to sleep. Head hit the pillow at four, asleep instantly and only up twice for bathroom visits - eleven hours of sleep.

Here is the backdrop for this morning's put-together of The Wiz, Wicked, and The Wizard of Oz. That's Elphaba floating in the sky on the right-hand side.

The DH is playing a funeral tomorrow morning. The family of the deceased has requested "Wind Beneath My Wings," "You Raise Me Up," and a song by Seal.
I don't think they taught this repertoire at the Yale School of Music.

Two show closing day vibes for DR GEORGE & Co.
Thanks, Jrand! Our first performance today went quite well.

My mom and her friends enjoyed it very much.

The four of us went to a local restaurant and dined.

I had a Country Western omelet and it was huge and quite delish.

I took half of it with me and will probably eat it tomorrow.

That is shocking that you were already seated before they knew to cancel. What a shame.

I’m ushering at an outdoor amphitheater. 4,000 people showed up for the Zac Brown band, which I don’t know. The music is okay in Jimmy Buffett kinda way.

Sadly, this is the handiwork of Trump's appointee as Postmaster General -- Louis DeJoy.
Import fees make getting things like this way too costly. I wanted to send a friend in England a Christmas gift two years ago. The value was about $40 and the weight was less than half a pound. The estimated cost to ship was $96. I didn't send it.
