Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hot and bounced, and now it is time for you to post until the too darn hot cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEMEANOR!
-
Welcome, seventy-one GUESTS.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, Mordden does not mention Hello, Dolly!, She Loves Me, or The king & I. He passes over the She Loves Me for the London revival recording. I don't know if he's slighting you because he's never heard them, didn't like them, or it's something to do with me, but = as I posted yesterday - it's a very opinionated book.
It's so badly published and edited - no page numbers, a title is often at the bottom of one page while the text begins on the next - I'm wondering if "Sweet Charity" got lost in the rubble or if my copy is missing pages.
-
The computer is very wonky this morning. It was up and running when I went for my coffee and down when I returned, and I had to reboot it and wait for everything to load in again.
-
DR Jeanne, the physical therapist I saw between 2013 and 2018 has had a falling out with my insurance company and will not accept their patients any longer. I don't feel like shopping for another.
-
I had meant to post yesterday morning about the Access=a=Ride driver. I saw it on the news Friday evening, and my first reaction was I wonder if it's the same driver who drove off and left me standing in front ofr my apartment. My second reaction was good, maybe the MTA will now take better precautions with applicants.
-
I have to call Access-a-Ride today and book Tuesday's trips.
-
I must take a lot of trash to the basement. After that, I will work on my second orchestra piece and begin to sketch it out.

This is sounding like a publication embarrassment in terms of its physical printing and the lack of proofing and editing -- but also in how NON-comprehensive it is if so many seminal recordings are omitted, whether by accident or opinion. But that's just me, because I go into things like this fully expecting completeness and accuracy in what it purports to cover.
But DR Elmore has also said that he manages to be quite entertaining. I just wonder exactly who or what purpose the book is targeted for. I will enjoy going through it sometime.

Ethan has a multitude of fans who probably would not like him so much if they actually knew him, and it was his growing ego about his successes in the 1980s that first drew me away from him. Then his betrayal on his Rodgers & Hammerstein book prompted my removing myself from his social circle. Between 1979 and 1988, I consider5ed him one of my best friends, and we had some great times. He even wrote a song for my cabaret act "Just Good Friends." It was called "But Does He Know How To Mambo?" and it was fantastic.
-
Still, if I were teaching a musical theatre class, I woulod force my students to read his wonderful Better Foot Forward from the late 1970s, which he now puts down constantly, and Broadway Babies. Both are so much better than his "Musicals by the Decades" books.

Good morning.
-
I walked my usual four miles this morning. It was 88 degrees when I began at 6 a.m.
-
Sunday.....and a meeting of the bored later today.
I think I need to take a Covid test....we shall see what happens.
-
I can't imagine what it is to live in a region that offers 90 degrees (give or take) at six in the morning. :)
My hat is off to you, DR Laura!

George -- her tattoo.

I live here because of the lack of snow.
-
My Uncle Jay and Aunt Irene moved to Tucson, AZ, in the late 1940s because the doctors suggested the climate would solve my cousin's severe asthma issues.

George -- her tattoo.
Ohhhh! That's right. Thanks for the reminder, Laura!

From DR Laura:
Re copy editors:
I was asked to write a short article for a local nature magazine. It came back with every sentence red-lined. Every sentence was changed. There was not even a phrase in there that I wrote.
It ended up on the cutting room floor, I guess. It wasn't in the issue that was delivered today.

In early July our microwave broke and we ordered a new one.
-
We picked it up today.
-
It works, and hopefully will continue to work for years. Friends in the building said their identical replacement stopped working after a few weeks.
-
Now we wait for a different neighbor to come help Keith pull out the old microwave and put the new one in.
-
There is a tight bracket, or something, to keep the microwave secure. It is a tight fit and we are concerned that will make it difficult to remove the old & install the new.
-
Bryce Pinkham is hilarious in Mercy Street. And more than a little insane.
-
ChasSmith, did you go see Jaws?
Yes, and we had a grand old time doing so.
I must say, though, that I cannot see Jaws in a theeder and NOT, at least at certain crucial points, think back to my first time at it, at the Pix in front row balcony right, with a sold out audience that was on fire. Nothing in today's experiences can ever compete with that moment in history, and certainly today's audiences are mostly clueless. But I always pay silent homage to that memory. The three of us have a special affection for this movie, anyway, and we had a wonderful time.
-
Yay, the neighbor has arrived.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Sooo glad the neighbor offered to help. We aren't very good at this sort of thing. It isn't going back in as easily as it came out ;D

So, do we have an email address for Mr. Mordden - I think I'd like to drop him a line and remind him there was a two-year period from 1993 to 1995 where I, almost singlehandedly, brought musical theater recordings back from the dead. The majors were only doing sporadic cast album releases by then and it was moribund. Then they saw that we were doing eighteen albums a year, many cast albums, both on and off-Broadway, and suddenly, magically, all of them were back in the game. I'll enclose a list of recordings for him, because he's quite the moron if he doesn't include the person who was as prolific as anyone in that game in that era. In fact, for me, it falls under the category, "How dare he?" So, an e-mail address would be fun to have.
-
I guess the creators of Mercy Street were expecting season three. I have less than 20 minutes left and there are so many stories without an end in sight.
-
I just looked at the book on Amazon. The reason it's ineptly put together is he published it himself - for publisher it simply reads "independently published" which means he either did it himself and put it on Amazon and let them do the softcover - I doubt he used a proper print on demand company. To willfully ignore A Grand Night for Singing, Hello, Dolly! (Grammy nominated and the most complete recording with all the dance music), Play On!, Bells Are Ringing, She Loves Me (which I executive produced), The King and I, is disgusting. But, as he admits right up front, these are personal choices, which automatically makes it uninteresting for me. And clearly he has some non-B'way albums in there, right? I mean, if he has The New Yorkers or the other two elmore mentioned, then we'd have to add my studio cast albums for Drat! The Cat! and The Night of the Hunter, and since The New Yorkers was off-B'way, we'd have to list the twenty or so off-B'way albums.

It was that way when I saw Road Warrior on a huge screen. The curtains were timed to the end of the world. So, when the explosion from the end of black and white Mad Max to full color happened, it was breathtaking.

I don't know how many times I waited eagerly for news of your next release, whatever it was, whoever it featured. To overlook that shows no sense of the times.

I just bought a new refrigerator. Ugh.
-
Got to eat a lot of what's in it now before the new one is delivered.
-
Watching a Peter Cushing horror flick called Island of Terror. Should be fun.
-
Bryce Pinkham is hilarious in Mercy Street. And more than a little insane.
I love Bryce! He's married to our New Yorkers leading lady, Scarlett. They were going to play Eric Dare and Karen O'Kane on the Jubilee recording that never happened.
-
I just bought a new refrigerator. Ugh.
Is it a walk-in?
-
Did a quick errand and ordered my small pepperoni pizza - that's fine, calorie-wise - about 200 per slice (very small slices) for a total of 1200
-

Ha! After this summer, I wish.

Three!

Island of Terror is so wonderfully silly.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
103 outside last time I looked, 86 indoors, WITH both the AC and fan.
-
I have reached the wet rag/rag doll/wiped out stage.
-
Did I ever mention that I dislike hot weather?
-
I hope we didn't send it your way, DR Jeanne.
-
Bruce, Essie Davis is a very capable actress. Before she was known here for MISS FISHER she was known in Australia for CLOUD STREET. She was wonderful in CLOUD STREET. It's very, very dark, but you should watch it just for her performance.
-
I hope we didn't send it your way, DR Jeanne.
Thanks, John G. I don't know who sent it to us, but the rain gods seem to be AWOL for many parts of the country.
-
I was watching an interesting documentary of sorts last night, THE INVISIBLES. Part interviews with survivors, part reenactments, about the Jews hiding in Berlin as the Nazis were forcing them all out.
-
I will watch a movie and indulge in cold foods (read "ice cream"), as it's too hot to do much else.
-
TTFN.

That sounds nearly identical to my experience, Chas.
There was a wonderful old movie theatre nearby that had been converted from a vaudeville house. Beautiful murals on the walls and ceiling, amazing woodwork.
I sat in the front row of the balcony of a sold out theatre watching Jaws.
-
Of course the theatre was demolished some years ago and replaced with an ugly concrete building which I believe is now a YMCA
-
I just bought a new refrigerator. Ugh.
I’m dreading the day I have to get a new one. I hate the way the new ones look and the cost is astronomical

An Amana. It had good ratings, was in stock and was on sale. A trifecta.

Wow, that's good.
I had a GE from 1994 to 2017 when it had been exhibiting a few problems invluding leaking water, and the replacement is a Samsung we bought at the local scratch & dent store. It's a very nice fridge, and though I sometimes wish I'd gone with a "perfect" one from a regular store, there were actually no then-current models we liked as much.

I know! I still have all the kitchen appliances that were here when I moved in in 2006.
-
Fortunately they're all still working well enough...knock wood!
-
The heat in the oven is pretty wonky, but I figured out that if I set it 5° lower than any stated temperature, and cook it for about 5 minutes less, I'll get pretty close to a correctly cooked item. ;)

Gratuitous Post #111!!
