Whose murder?
DR ChasSmith, I have got to get a lot of books out of this apartment. If I were to order 10 storage boxes, I wonder if you might be able to devote a day to come in, help me fill the cartons, and cart them away for me? I'm sure several Connecticut librariers are awaiting such an arrival with sheer delight!
I shall have to listen to Donald's radio show on The Rocky Horror Show. I actually know quite little about it, and it's high time I learned its history and traditions.
The playhouse that did Carrie enjoyed a very successful October run of TRHS several years ago, and they've mentioned it (hint hint hint) to me a few times over the past couple of years. So if I want to music direct it at some point in this lifetime, I've got the opportunity. But I have never once attended it, either a staged production or the film version, which I know is outright unbelievable. But I am here to tell the truth, and by God, you just heard the truth.
The Dramatist Guild Quarterly's "Sondheim" issue arrived in yesterday's mail. Haven't had a chance to peruse it yet.
My left eyeball, the object of last Monday's surgery, is itching like mad this morning. The eyedrops are doing nothing to calm things down.
Vibes for Matinee George!!
The opening scene presages Five Easy Pieces. Charles Boyer befuddles a waitress because he wants some cheese without the pie that comes with it.
~~~MATINEE VIBES~~~ for DR George and Company!!!!!!!
I would say that the major problems were with the casting, the set, costumes, staging, acting, singing, and dancing.
We decided to make the trip home in 3 legs instead if the usual 2
The highlight of my day has been watching the men's finals of the ISU grand prix Skate America event in which 17-year-old Ilia Malinin, representing the USA, skated an historic and winning free skate. His first move was a quad axel, which was/is just phenomenal, and he is the only skater in the world to have landed it in competition.
He soared from fourth place (short program score) to first and no one could catch him. He landed about five or six other quads, as well. No one else had more than three.
I have an appointment at the orthopedic clinic next Wednesday.
Vibes for all in need.
Tom, there supposedly is a masturbation scene in the new Oklahoma! It’s when they’re looking at dirty pictures in Jud’s place.
Well at the Goodwill store on Friday, I found a paperback copy of 100 Ray Bradbury stories.
And the first story in the book - all chosen by Mr B himself - was my favorite of his stories....."The Whole Town Is Asleep" from Dandelion Wine - my favorite Bradbury collection.
What is everyone's favorite Ray Bradbury story - if you have one.
BK, are you considering purchasing the new Mitropoulos box set?
No luck with Wordle today!
Has anyone watched Magpie Murders?
My neighbor Ann came down to read through a ton of mail with me since I cannopt read any of it. It was fun.
Sunday evening greetings! We’ve had a quiet day, but about 5:30 I was working at my desk and Richard was watching TV when we heard a loud crash and breaking glass. By yelling we each determined that the other was OK, but we met in the living room to find the outer pane of our double-paned picture window shattered.
We went outside and looked for a rock or a ball or a dead bird and found nothing. We can only assume that it was a bird that was able to fly off.
Yokes, Ginny. Glad all is OK.
Wow! I can't imagine a bird surviving a crash hard enough to shatter the window.
Wow, DR Ginny.
Thanks, DR John G! I’m glad neither of us was sitting in front of the window. It’s one of my favorite reading spots.
We couldn’t, either, DR Jane, but it’s the least scary explanation.
Watched the broadcast of the Minnesota Orchestra with its new Music Director Designate, Thomas Sondergard (Danish).
The program included Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
There was no rioting.
Know what I hate? When morons leave their shopping carts in the middle of a parking space. That takes a particular kind of something or other.Or in the middle of aisle, so that you can't pass on either side.
We did not notice it. The looking at photos in the smokehouse scene was done in the dark. All the dialogue was in the dark; they man with the camera came out and live-streamed closeups of their faces during the song (which was still in the dark, except for the lighting on their faces).
The Aldi has cut down on that by requiring that you pay a quarter to unlock a cart from the stall and you get the quarter back when you return it
Have any of you Magpie watchers seen Leslie Manville in the new Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris? I also got it from the library this weekend. Haven't watched it yet.
We arrived 2 hours later than the original projected time because of terrible bumper to bumper traffic in Virginia and Maryland, the last hour in the dark while it poured rain
Annoying though, especially in the rain. It could also be difficult for some people to actually do it.
Where's the fun in that?
I worried so much about those little girls sitting next to me seeing the scene John discusses. I was relieved when they left at intermission.
Watching a lovely movie - Swedish - A Man Called Ove. Of course, it's been remade for the US and is coming out in pure Oscar-bait fashion on Christmas Day starring Tom Hanks, who I'm sure in pure Oscar-bait fashion, will be nominated. I cannot imagine it will be as charming and heartfelt as the Swedish film, nor can I imagine a better performance than Rolf Lassgard, who was Wallendar in the first series of Swedish films and then the titular chapter in another Swedish crime series, Sebastian Bergman. More in the notes, but if you want to get a jump on it - it's free on Amazon Prime.
I am sure I would have felt the same way.
That first jump was a quad axel....4 1/2 revolutions; there was 800 pounds of pressure on his landing leg. He did four axels in his program.
I don't believe I've ever seen a Dr. Who anything.
I didn't get to see the men's long skate that DR RON PULLIAM wrote about....but I am happy that Illia won.
He is very good - excellent in some areas. I hope he has a long career ahead for all of us to enjoy. It was good NOT to see some of the boring hang arounds that have been on the circuit so many years....
I just finished watching the last episode of Doctor Who with Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor.
Jodie Whittaker? Is he the little movie from FAMILY AFFAIR?
