Well, you've read the notes, the notes were breaking and bombshell and alert, and now it is time for you to post until the November cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SAMHAIN!
-
Welcome fifty-eight GUESTS! Come on in, the water's fine.
-
October was our biggest posting month of the year, thus far. Can we beat it in November? We CAN!
-
Page views were just under one million, slightly down from other moments, but they're fluid and will go up as people go back and read the topics they missed. That happens all the time.
-
Good morning, all!
-
As usually happens, I winterize my bed and the day after the temperatures go up. I tossed about from 8:30 to 11:00 as I tried to get sleep, only the bed was too warm. I finally fell asleepv somertime between 11 and midnight. Then I had a horrendous nightmare in which I was on one of the cews for a production of Camelot.
-
I had gone across the street to a bank to make a deposit and get soem cash for one of the actors. A totally incompetent clerk kept delaying things. I finally made the deposit but realized later I had forgotten the actor's request. As I left the bank, someone on the show started yelling at me that I was late and the musical had been running for fifteen minutes.
-
Even worse, the acor playing Arthur was sick, and the actor playing Lancelot was doing the role. I had to go on as Lancelot. So, against my protests, I was dressed in the hunky costume for Lancelot while I kept trying to get the glorious baritone of "C'est Moi" into my reedy voice.I couldn't remember the lyrics, I did not know how the fat hell I would get through the dialoguie or "If Ever I Would Leave You.
-
On top of that, instead of being a muscular 6-foot tall romantic lead, I was a 5'10" chubby mess in a hunky actor's costume. Just before the cue came for "C'est Moi" arrivewd I walked offstage yelling "Give them back their money! IU'm not doing this." And I woke.
-
I began orchestrating the song for the West end concert yesterday, and I will continue today.
-
Tomorerow, when I see my optometrist, I will have Access-a-Ride take me to City Center, where I wll give Joshie the score for the Interlude to be scanned.
-
DR Jrennifer, welcome back! Where have you been?
-
DR vixmom, thanks for keeping an eye on Mr Orr. I'm happy to hear his surgery went well.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Glad you had the Camelot dream and not me. C’est toi!
-
George, we only have Libby anymore. No more Overdrive.
-
Laura, we are supposed to have the same policy with retiring or departing ministers, but we merely made the retiring minister a pastor emeritus, so he could stay nearby.
-
Good morning
-
John and Laura We have the same policy here.
Our former Pastor moved away for a couple of years but since retired and moved back to town.
He is now a “regular” member of the congregation.
-
TCB, yes Bill now lives alone as his husband, Joe, passed away earlier this year.
-
Just spoke with his nurse in recovery. They do not yet have a room for him, he has also tested positive for flu so they need to give him a single room.
They don’t allow visiting in the recovery area, but she will call me as soon as he is put in a room
-
Ironically, Bill having the flu actually turned out to be a good thing.
In the ER, instead of being in a crowded, noisy, curtained area he was in a private room with a glass door that kept out outside sounds, with his own TV and control over his lighting preferences
-
So that’s the silver lining so far of this dark cloud
-
Time to Wordle then waddle to work

I, too, am glad I didn't have DR Elmore's dream, though I did have a Camelot dream years ago that was quite enchanting.
Mine was only marginally better. I was piano-conducting a dress rehearsal where I couldn't see the singer (as was the case during parts of Carrie), and I was trying to get it in my head exactly what this 8- or 16-bar tag, or ride out, to a song consisted of, how many measures there were, who was singing what, what exactly the melodic line was, and how do we transition to it. The lead singer was the Arsenic and Old Lace Cary Grant, backed by a men's chorus. I eventually realized that the ensemble ending of the song wasn't originally a part of it, and wasn't called for, so things would be easier when those bars were lopped off. The irritating thing was the repetition of the dream, which I was more than happy to wake from.
-
Everything is finished now except for the basement trip. Then I'll work on my orchestration before it's time for our soaps. After that I need to sort the latest catfood arrival and put it away.
-
For me, yesterday felt like a Tuesday because of our Sunday evening rehearsal which felt like a Monday. Today now feels like a Monday because of last night being Halloween and feeling a little bit like a weekend night.
So here's the extent of our Halloween:
We never get trick-or-treaters, and this wasn't the year for a partay, so we had made absolutely no plans. And because of my shows, my own Halloween activities had been nil. So on a whim, Nathan brought home a pumpkin and he and Kristi carved it and set a candle inside. We set the pumpkin on the fireplace hearth, had a few other candles going, and we watched the 1970 Roger Corman film version of The Dunwich Horror which they had never seen. We were all fans of Dean Stockwell who died this past year, and it was interesting to see Sandra Dee, Sam Jaffe, and Ed Begley (Sr.) doing this thing. Like most Corman films, it had its moments, both good and schlocky, and it was exactly what we wanted.
We followed that up with a few random episodes of One Step Beyond from the one legitimate DVD of the first season released by CBS (every other release having been bootlegs of varying quality). It's such an oddly interesting show, and the episodes we picked happened to be among the better ones.
And that was that. And now it's November, which I can hardly believe. I'd rather not believe it, but apparently the evidence is all around me.
-
There was some rain last night which, as far as I knew, was totally unexpected. So now everything's wet and I can't get out there and blow leaves or do much of anything else. Which is fine. That waits till tomorrow, when I must start in on a few solid weeks of outdoor work and get this place cleaned up. Today I must work on music prep for tonight, and do a little housework indoors.
-
More coffee!
And some toast. I picked up a loaf of Rustik Oven Italian bread, a new one for them, that I want to try.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
It's going to be in the 70s here the next few days. Wild!
-
Good morning!

More recovery vibes for Bill. Strange story about the flu.
I wonder if his breathing with that affected his being under anesthesia during the surgery.

Well things are moving along.
I think we have all had our own CAMELOT nightmares.....I played Mordred once......that may have been the audience's nightmare.....

DR CHAS SMITH next time you are in the mood for one of those films - I highly recommend THE SHUTTERED ROOM with Carol Lynley & Gig Young & Flora Robson and Oliver Reed in the TIGHTEST pair of jeans ever seen on film.....

I saw a few slasher movies.....

I do have that one on some DVD or other, and it's another that I need to introduce to Kristi and Nathan since we've been on a bit of a Lovecraft kick these past couple of years. So many of the adaptations are fair to middling (not that there are that many of them, even now), but that certainly is another that's not to be missed.
-
I recognized the Dunwich director's name, Daniel Haller, but couldn't remember why. He directed another of Corman's Lovecraft adaptations, Die, Monster, Die! (with Karloff - based on "The Color Out of Space"), a childhood favorite of mine.
I think I'd always wanted to see The Shuttered Room back in the day, but it never happened. My viewing of it on DVD might have been my first time.
Of course there is also Corman's The Haunted Palace, the Poe-titled Lovecraft story. That's a favorite, too, in part due to Ronald Stein's score.

Good morning.
-
TOD: I watched Creature From the Black Lagoon when I was a kid. It scared me for quite some time. I learned young not to watch scary movies.
-
I liked Reanimator back in the day. More recently, I saw the original and the remake of Suspira. The colors in the Suspira films were gorgeous. Jessica Harper in the original was her true neurotic brilliant self.
-
In Evil Dead 2, I loved the artificial nature of it. Blood was buckets of paint. As I recall it was sometimes blue or white. Funny.
-
Years ago, my backdoor neighbor had three ginger cats who loved coming into my yard. They loved their petting and a little extra food. To me, they were Thomas Stearns, Tiktok and Dizzy. And they came over for a couple of years.
-
Two nights ago, another sweet ginger appeared, wanting petting and eating a little. She came back last night for more of the same. I hope she’s going to be a regular.
-
I went looking for her later, but instead of seeing a beautiful cat, I saw a possum. Strange.
-
I do like more of the Argento films than I was thinking of earlier.
And those color spectaculars, e.g. Suspiria, are indeed ... spectacular.
-
DR John I am sorry I missed your Phoodle in one yesterday. Congratulations.
-
I tried a couple of Lucio Fulci's films, and didn't like those. Too much slashing and gore for me, with seemingly no other purpose than being slash- and gore-fests. That's why I say no more giallos for me, other than those early-mid Argentos.
-
Yes DR George, good news I am still negative.
-
It is very stressful though. We might not decide until Friday if I am going alone, both of us go, or we both stay home.
-
From George:
Oh! Even though I just ordered some a few minutes ago, I guess I can get some more tomorrow, too!
Please let me know if that works and I will also order more.
-
DR George I was the only one wearing a mask at my book discussion group. I guess they figured my N94 mask was sufficient, and they knew I was negative.
-
From Bruce:
The fellow who lives in the back house brought me some peanut butter covered Trader Joe's popcorn. It's pretty damn tasty.
I am not going to tell Keith about this. He would want some.
-
DR John, vibes you get the job teaching food writing!
-
From DR Laura:
We made a quick trip to our former pastor's house, who lives about a mile away. He and his wife hadn't seen my grandson since he retired.
Former pastors are not allowed to be in contact with church members for a period of time. This gives the new pastor time to get established and the congregation adjusts to going to the new pastor for their needs. Mrs. Former Pastor in particular misses the children.
That's nice you could go visit. It seems hard not having contact, something that wouldn't be possible in a small town.
-
DR TCB I wish I had known you were writing a musical of Giant before my discussion last night.
-
George, we only have Libby anymore. No more Overdrive.
I thought it begins next year. Are you still having issues with it?

It sounds like he picked up the flu in the hospital :(
Does he have his phone and charger?

Nice.
-
DR Chas your Halloween sounds nice. I wore a mask while we watched tv and sat far away from Keith.
-
I did enjoy the earlier part of the evening at my discussion, and someone had Halloween candy for us :)

TOD: I watched Creature From the Black Lagoon when I was a kid. It scared me for quite some time. I learned young not to watch scary movies.
I did not watch scary movies until Keith insisted. The first movie we watched together was The Blob and I was a mess. To my surprise I loved it, as he knew I would.
-

No, he tested positive for flu when he was brought in, but he doesn't have and symptoms except an occassional cough.
He tested negative for covid though
-
I have all his stuff at the moment because there was nowhere to leave it.
I arranged for him to have a "house phone" which does not receive calls but which allows him to make calls.
-
We just spoke for about 15 minures. He's finally been given some actual food.
He hasnt had any since Thursday day

I am glad he doesn't have typical flu symptoms and it got him a private room. Yay for the negative covid results.

DR Vixmom is Bill in much pain?

I have voted and will celebrate with a walk since it isn't raining.
-
TOD: I watched Creature From the Black Lagoon when I was a kid. It scared me for quite some time. I learned young not to watch scary movies.
The movie that scared me when I was a kid was Beware! The Blob. I couldn't watch more than probably the first 15 minutes or so.
-
Yes DR George, good news I am still negative.
Very good news. I just out that my friend pug is positive again. She had a VERY bad time of it last time...and it lasted a long time. Hopefully, it won't, this time!

I loved the original Blob with Steve McQueen. And the remake with Shawnee Smith had some good laughs, as I recall.

Glad to hear that Bill is on the mend. I wondered if they gave him anything to eat, since they knew he was going to be having surgery.

In anticipation of my blood donation on Thursday, I am enjoying one of my favorite foods: liver and onions and bacon. I haven't had it in years.

So, spy reports have it that Putin is suffering from Parkinson’s and pancreatic cancer. All the more reason for him to start a nuclear war.

I always thought there was something special about her. Years ago I saw her on a talk show where a guest was saying she was too fat. His opinion was that women should be model thin. I had been thinking how great she looked and his comments were shocking. She handled him well and didn't let him bother her.

Hello, everyone.
-
I haven't been feeling too well and have no end of medical appointments on my calendar, leaving me very little energy. I was sorry to miss John G's trip, but Elmore's surgery was on my mind and I'm glad to see he got through it. I'm sorry to hear that Keith is ill and the trip is in limbo.
-
Hi Jeanne, it is good to see you.
-
I find medical appointments exhausting and try to scatter them, which of course cannot always be done. I hope things ease up and you can rest.
-
Thank you about Keith. He seems better right now and I am feeling more hopeful we will be able to go. Either way, I have decided I will be going.
-
Hi, Jane and thanks. I often find medical appointments exhausting, too. I don't mind going to acupuncture because it's so easy -- short drive, no parking issues, no bureaucracy -- and because I feel better right away. But the rest I wish I could do without.
-
Recovery vibes for WFO. I, too, am glad he will have his own room.
-
DR George, Amazon delivered the state covid tests today :o
-
Since there are two of us I requested two kits. I thought that would be a total of four tests.
-
The kits are big, with 5 tests per box.
-
In the annoyance department, would you believe that the two credit cards that I use the most -- and extensively -- were both compromised in one week? I've been several hours updating numerous accounts online. Some, of course, cannot be done online and you have to do it over the phone. IF you can get through to someone. I'd like to see a study done of how much business is lost due to those so-annoying phone trees and poor customer service. I guess that's my gripe du jour.
-
Vibes to all.
TTFN.

That was quick! I wonder when I'll get mine.

It said three to five days.
-
In about 10 minutes, I'm going to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts to take the new (updated) usher training because the Center got remodeled and I'll finally get to see the results!
-
Some people (a Gypsy reference ;) ) went through the training last week, but I was in a show.

The kits are big, with 5 tests per box.
That's what I got last time.

NOOOOOO!! >:(

Well, it's time to get out of my car and get to the Center! Afterward, my friend Margo (who's also taking tonight's training) and will go out to get something to eat...somewhere to be determined.
Until later!
-
'night
-
Good to see both DR Jeanne and DR Jennifer around these parts.
-
So sorry to hear about your friend's loss, DR Jrand72.
-
I don't have a lot to say today, but thanks to other DRs for taking us to page six.
-
And beyond!
-
Perhaps.
-
Good night, friends.
-
The library has some treasures waiting for me today. One was Willie and Bobbie Nelson singing gospel and hymns. Another was Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducting Beethoven’s nine symphonies, which includes a supposedly newly discovered contrabassoon part for the ninth.
-
There’s also a Charles Mingus set and the complete symphonies of Brahms.
-
As for movies, there’s a Brad Pitt double feature of The Lost City and Bullet Train.
-
I still need to finish this Avengers set first.
-
Patti LuPone live stream happening.

The Avengers episode I’m watching now, The Hour That Never Was, is the first episode of the show I ever saw. In one hour, I became a diehard fan for life.
-
I didn’t get to see Bill today because he still hadn’t been placed in a 4oom and they don’t allow guests in recovery
-
But the receptionist in the lobby brought his glasses and his cell phone to him
-
He called me around 8 to say that he had finally been given a room
-
He had been given dinner and said he was pretty comfortable and they had already begun having him stand ( with a wAlker)
-
So the next step I guess will be a rehab

Well, the newly remodeled Center looks pretty darned spiffy! :D
-
We got a tour of the downstairs lobby and main theater orchestra level, and the Black Box (the small second theater space next to the main stage) lobby.
-
We were also given a three-page "onesheet" ::) of the updated rules and policies to take with us and read.
-
They also had paper sign-up sheets for events happening this very weekend!
-
I signed up for a couple of things, and for something next week.
-
I didn't sign up for everything that was available because I'm taking the updated concessions training tomorrow night, and will sign up for some concessions shifts in addition to ushering.
-
After the training, Margo and I walked over to McMenamins Spar Café and we each had the Cheeseburger Slider Trios. Yummy!!
-
We chatted and caught up and had a nice time.
-
After we said our goodbyes, I did a little shopping at Fred Meyer, but when I got out to my car, there was some kind of medical emergency situation in the parking lot and my car was kind of blocked by the police vehicle! :o
-
Fortunately, it wasn't any kind of violent situation, but I was actually able to get my car out of the parking space without having to ask the police to move their car.
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
Then I came home. :)

So, last week, I ordered for the library, the movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar.
-
I realized that I didn't have it, so I ordered the Blu-ray version (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BJ0OO8O).
-
One of the Amazon recommendations was a documentary about the making of the movie musical called Superstars: The Documentary (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZQJMFYB).
-
New notes are up.
-
The original version of the documentary from 2015 was only about 52 minutes, but this Blu-ray release (and there's a DVD available, too) expands the running time to 93 minutes.
-
Up are new notes.
-
Up is page eight.
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
And new notes.
-
Here's the description from Amazon's listing:
From producers of Jesus Christ Superstar, "Superstars", a feature length documentary about the making of the original "Jesus Christ Superstar" theatrical movie. This 90 minute documentary features making of footage and original "on set" interviews with cast members and Norman Jewison. In 1972, director Jewison took a group of young actors, singers, and dancers to war-torn Israel to shoot the film adaptation of the hit rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar." This is their story - in their own words. The production team is putting together a new expanded digital cut of the original documentary "Superstars." The original 2015, 52 min feature is being expanded to 90 min with an additional chapter of the film cast reunion in New York City and unseen footage of one the cast members, Barry Dennen, who played "Pontius Pilate" talking about his experiences before and after filming in Israel.
-
I have an empty 2-disc Blu-ray case, so I put the two Blu-ray discs together and have the movie WITH the documentary in one case!
-
Pretty cool, huh? ;D
