Well, you've read the notes, the notes had some wee coincidences, and now it is time for you to post until the coincidental cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PERENNIAL!
-
This is long, so I'm glad I saved it before I tried to hit "Post"!
I would like to change my username to DR Iris, and no longer use “lurker”.
Can anyone here on HHW instruct me on the right way to do that?
Mind you, I’m still unable to place your quotes correctly, or know how to add links and photos. Sigh.
I nominate George. And I will just call you Iris, regardless of what it says on your posts.
Iris, at the top of each page is a link to your PROFILE. Click or tap on that, then long-tap the MODIFY PROFILE. This is on a device like a phone or tablet, but if on a desktop computer with a mouse, just hover over the MODIFY PROFILE button and a drop-down menu will appear. Tap or click the "Account Settings" link at the top of the list, and that's where you should be able to change your display name.

Good morning to all
-
The David Mamet film I believe is The Spanish Prisoner
-
Favorite Clousseau film The PP Strikes Back even though the Diamond has nothing to do with the story of the film
-
Good mi=morning, all!
-
This is my ME day. I'm not leaving the apartment, I'm in my play clothes, and I am doing little as possible. I must put the long-postponed laundry together for tomorrow, but I plan to spend most of the day watching DVDs and lying around with my babies..
-
After my walk to Staples and dealing twice with the lobby steps abd a walker, my legs were not happy, so I'm giving them a rest today.
-
I finished the DVD of Martin Chuzzlewit. Paul Scofield is quite wonderful, and I love Julia Sawalha, who plays abused wife Mercy Pecksmith Chuzzlewit. Her villainous husband is played by a wonderful actor I did not know, Keith Allen. Joan Sims, from the "Carry On" comediesm has a turn as an alcoholic Cockney nurse and friend of Sairie Gamp.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I have a few foodie jokes to get your Saturday morning off to a rollicking start.
-
How do you stop Canadian bacon from curling in the frying pan?
-
You take away their little brooms.
-
That one was courtesy of DR vixmom.
-
:D
-
The other one is:
-
Charcuterie is French for "I'd like a sandwich, but I don't have any bread."
-
DR elmore3003 - your plan for today sounds fabulous.
-
I think the only Pink Panther film I ever saw was the original.
Steve Martin:
Roxanne
Parenthood
-
Good morning, all.
-
I've been awake since 4:23 a.m. when all I thought I was awake for was to visit the necessary.
Wrong. I was awake. Period. At one point around two hours later I began to drop off into a strange but totally harmless dream, but the cat sensed it and took care of that in short order.
At least I can tell the vax side-effect fatigue has left the building. I can get a few things done around here today.
-
Steve Martin never appealed to me, going all the way back to his SNL days. His style and brand of comedy leave me completely uninterested.
After years of resistance, I finally watched two movies I thought he was fine in -- Leap of Faith, which I rather liked, and The Big Year, which doesn't do anything for me but I can get through it. I believe I found him fine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels but I haven't seen that in years.
I, too, only ever saw the original Pink Panther film. That's not 100% true, as I know I've stumbled across one or two of the sequels on TV and maybe even enjoyed a scene or two. But I never sought them out and really watched them. I wouldn't go near the "remakes" with somebody else's ten-foot pole.
-
I enjoyed all the Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies
-
I like Steve Martin as well
-
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Roxanne
Are my two favorites
But I also like
Three Amigos
Leap of Faith
The Big Year
Parenthood
And I love him as the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors
-
That being said, I thought the Pink Panther remakes with him were terrible
-
Well, time to Wordle awhile
-
Good morning, all.

Saturday morning greetings! It’s snowing in SW Ohio, making it a perfect day to stay in and make vegetable and apple pie for Richard’s birthday (tomorrow).
-
Wordle and Phoodle in 4
-
I did not like Phoodle today.
-
I haz seen snow!
We have about an inch and half of the stuff and it is still falling. Not sticking to the streets or sidewalks yet - but at this rate we could have some bad conditions by afternoon.
-
My left arm is sore - but that seems to be the only by product of my booster and flu shot yesterday.
-
I enjoyed all of the Pink Panther movies - with Mr Peter Sellers. There are usually lots of fun actors in roles......including Ms Capucine and Mr Robert Wagner.....
I still think one of the funniest things I have ever seen - I think it was in the first one - Clouseau is walking around the room talking and talking and a woman (I think it was the divine Capucine) screams and stands up......because he stepped on her toe.....
I used that bit when I directed Death By Chocolate and the audience was most amused.....
-
Steve Martin is an actor I have loved in a lot of things and not cared for in a lot of things. On the plus side:
All of Me
Pennies from Heaven
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Roxanne
A Simple Twist of Fate
L.A. Story
Little Shop of Horrors
The Spanish Prisoner
Love his score for Bright Star.
-
Steve Martin I can take or leave.....
-
Tiffany Trump's wedding is this afternoon and if I'm gonna get Mar-A-Lardo on time, I'm gonna have to run.
-
As for the Pink Panther, nothing beats the first two, A Shot in the Dark and The Pink Panther, though I also enjoyed The Pink Panther Strikes Again back when I was a youngster.
No desire to see Steve Martin or Roberto Begnini (sp?) play the role.
-
Begin the Begnini?
-
This morning I am trying to decide between a Craftsy course on pie-crust making versus stir-frying basics.
-
There is slight snow on the ground, and again: no sun. High today of 33.
-
ATTENTION
I am seeing too many instance of the S-word on this forum.
-
S—w is a four-letter word.

Laundry in the dryer. Must do dishes.

Vixmom’s favorite (NOT), the musical version of From Here to Eternity, is being revised and revived in London.

Mom said it happened in Louavul. That’s Louisville if you live there.
Back in my working days, I learned how to pronounce Louisville correctly.
One of our VPs from the south was so impressed that he learned how to say Worcester, Mass. correctly.
-
But did you learn how to say Versailles, KY?
-
It’s Ver-sails to most of Kentucky. Or Ver-sail-EEZE if you live there.

Having leftover pizza. It’s quite good.
-
The original cast recording of Flying Over Sunset is on sale at Amazon today. One day only.
-
It’s Ver-sails to most of Kentucky. Or Ver-sail-EEZE if you live there.
I can understand it being the former, but the latter ..... good LORD.
I love these. I know about Cairo, Illinois being "Kay-ro" and of course "Lima" (as in beans), Ohio. My favorite remains "Dess Plains" for Des Plaines, IL.

DR Iris, thanks for the tip on Ant Gel.

DR Iris, no train or plane plans for us on Thanksgiving for us.

DR TCB I can't take any pain meds without antinausea meds. Can Paul (who is Paul?) prescribe some for you?

One of our VPs from the south was so impressed that he learned how to say Worcester, Mass. correctly.
When we lived in Massachusetts we were surprised to learn the pronunciation of several locations ;D
-
I also learned that the word short was pronounced shot, very confusing.
-
And I got Wordle in three! ;D
Congrats.

Thanks, Jane!

I’m getting inundated with sales. See’s Candies is offering 9% cash back through Rakuten. Plus, free shipping on $70 orders.
I could easily spend that on personal candies.
-
What is Rakuten?
-
Am watching the Clemson-Louisville game. The Tigers are 8-1 and ranked 10th in the country. They were fourth this time last week but Notre Dame rather beat the crap out of them and the Tigers took a dive in the polls. Sadly there are teams ranked higher with two losses, including a loss, each, last week.
They just get no respect lately.
-
The day here cannot decide between being bright and sunny or overscast.
-
I have made this my "lazy" day (as if one were required), but I put no expectations upon myself on this day.
So far, I am living up to no expectations.
-
So far, I am living up to no expectations.
That is commendable, DR Ron Pulliam.
-
DR Iris, I am not going anywhere by plane or train for the Thanksgiving holiday. I will be driving, weather permitting, but only a 3-hour
tour trip.
I would not want to be anywhere near an airport from now through the end of the year (sorry, DR Jane).
-
I'm up, I'm up. Nine hours of sleep, maybe even a bit more - but horrible, disturbing dreams.

I agree. I wanted to take the trip in October.

What is Rakuten?
It’s a shopping app that gives you money back when you use it.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Nine hours of sleep, maybe even a bit more - but horrible, disturbing dreams.
Sorry about the bad dreams.
-
Listening to Flying Over Sunset. Liking some of the music, not a great deal of the lyrics.
-
I like Carmen Cusak a lot. Tony Yazbek is woefully miscast with a bad British accent, to boot.
-
I'm up, I'm up. Nine hours of sleep, maybe even a bit more - but horrible, disturbing dreams.
Sorry about the bad dreams.
I had them as well, but then that is fairly normal for me ;D
-
At least it meant I was sleeping. I woke up at 2:30 fell back to sleep after 6:00.
-
The day is almost too lazy for me.
-
Same here, mostly because I want to sleep.

Give this man a gag.
Republican U.S. Senate candidate for Georgia Herschel Walker described America as "the greatest country in the United States.”

We still don't know if our next representative in congress will be the scary man or the unknown woman.

It is incredible people are voting for him.

Michael Starobin was very happy with his orchestrations. I would very much like to hear them.
-
Perhaps that can be arranged.

Intrigue!

John, are you a Costco member? If you are and your Costco has them, Costco sells See's gift cards. You buy $50 worth but only pay $40, do you could save ANOTHER 20%.
Just sayin'. ;)

In the Unwelcome Trends department...
I've always been annoyed by the inclusion of "My Favorite Things" on Christmas albums.
The newest trend seems to be to include Joni Mitchell's song "River" as well, just because Christmas is mentioned in the first few lines.
The song has nothing to do with Christmas, people! :)
-
I completely understand this.
-
Thank you, George!
It worked!
👏👏
-
I love Steve Martin.
Several of us would fly to Las Vegas after work whenever he performed there.
Of course, we flew for free as stand-by passengers.
-
I remember when he introduced us to his girlfriend at the time after his show.
It was Bernadette Peters, still fairly unknown in 1978.
-
He wrote that part in the movie The Jerk just for her.
I love the song they perform together, “Tonight You Belong To Me”.
-
He is a very serious art collector.
I attended an exhibition of his collection in 2001 in Las Vegas.
Very impressive art, including Seurat.
He is nothing in person like he is on stage, very serious and extremely intellectual.
-
Herschel Walker received close to 75% of the white vote in Georgia, both men and women.
Close to zero votes from the Black community.
I don’t get it.
-
Jane, are you referring to Joe Kent?
He is despicable.
That race is way too close.
Really hope he loses.
-
Singdaw, I liked your foodie jokes. 😊
-
Here’s one.
What’s the opposite of a croissant?

A happy uncle.

It is sad.

I am. Yes, way too close and scary.

A happy uncle.
😁
;D
-
I don't remember which was my favorite Pink Panther film, maybe the first one of the four with Peter Sellers.
-
When I think "Pink Panther" I think of Peter Sellers, never Steve Martin.

Steve Martin:
The Jerk
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Roxanne
Little Shop of Horrors
Only Murders in the Building

Jane, they just updated, and Joe Kent is still losing.
So is Kari Lake.
-
Trump is screaming that Arizona needs to run the election over because they
stole “THE ELECTRON” from Blake Masters.
Not a very positive attitude.
-
Every volt counts.
-
The guilty must be charged.
Gotta keep an ion it.
-
Will show myself out.
-

So is Kari Lake.
Thank goodness. Last I read Kent was gaining on Perez.

Jane, NBC has just announced that Joe Kent has lost.
Marie Perez is the winner.
-
By the way, all of my post-Trump comments are silly puns.
😉
-
Jane, NBC has just announced that Joe Kent has lost.
Marie Perez is the winner.
Wow, I guess following the news is better than searching online.
THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD NEWS!
-
Keith & I have been checking the news for this. The Seattle Times projects she will be the winner. The Washington Post says there isn't enough info yet.
-
I won't truly relax until it is official.
-
The New York Times also declared her the winner.
-
And The Seattle Times.
-
The Seattle Times headline says she won, however, the article says "projected".
-
Odds are the remaining votes to be counted are for Perez.
-
Most of the votes left to count are in my district, which has a majority of Democrats.
-
I follow the Seattle Times on Twitter, and it was officially announced.
They are calling it the biggest election upset in the country.
-
With each day that passes, Trump gets older, fatter and more wrinkled. Because he doesn't HAVE to see a doctor, he doesn't.
I suspect he won't last much longer.
-

And Sondheim's "I Remember." ::) I know he wrote a new intro for Barbra, but I still think it doesn't work as a Christmas song.

Thank you, George!

Great! Glad I could help!

So is Kari Lake.
Hoo and Ray!!
-
Ron, I hope you’re right.

I follow the Seattle Times on Twitter, and it was officially announced.
They are calling it the biggest election upset in the country.
Jaime Herrera Beutler has been our representative since 2011. I think most democrats respected her. I did, even when I didn't agree with her. After January 6th she was scared and mad and voted to impeach Trump. Republicans turned on her and voted for Kent in the primary. Idiots. They got what they wanted, Beutler gone. Ha Ha.
-
Jane, I understand your caution.
Will wait for a formal victory announcement by M. Perez.
-

How do you know he doesn't see a doctor?

Today, I was helping my sister with a fund-raising bazaar for PFLAG, and now I'm going to usher for a college play.
-
Thank you, George!
It worked!
👏👏
Great! Glad I could help!
Welcome just DR Iris :)
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Sorry to say, Trump looked good at his daughter’s wedding today.
He has lost weight.
-
It's already been a day, and there's still more of it left. :P
Be back later!
-
Jane, I understand your caution.
Will wait for a formal victory announcement by M. Perez.
If she is wise she will wait.
-
Thanks, Jane.
I tried to use just “Iris”, but it was rejected.
I must have another, older account on HHW somewhere.
-
George, what play?
-
Jane, she has written a thank you note on her official Twitter page.
“We won. I am humbled, honored, and grateful”.
I didn’t know she owned an auto repair shop in Portland!
-
Thanks, Jane.
I tried to use just “Iris”, but it was rejected.
I must have another, older account on HHW somewhere.
Found in Members: 'Iris" signed up and logged in once, without posting, on June 13, 2004.
-
Thanks, Jane.
I tried to use just “Iris”, but it was rejected.
I must have another, older account on HHW somewhere.
I looked at the members list, yup there is an Iris without a single post ;D
-
"Iris" lasted all of three (3) minutes. :)
-
DR Chas you were faster posting- LOL
-
"Iris" lasted all of three (3) minutes. :)
;D
-
I was outlasted by a head of lettuce.
-
Chas, thanks for solving that mystery!

BBL.

Catherine Cortez-Masto has just been declared winner of the Senate race in Nevada.
Democrats now have 50 seats, plus Kamala Harris as tie-breaker!
The Georgia election will determine if the Democrats can get a 1-vote advantage in numbers. It could be the offset for Joe Manchin's contrary ways.
-
There are still 21 House seats to be finalized, so the House could also be retained by the Democrats.
-
Ron, I was just about to post the same news!
🥂 🎉 🎶

Wow, fingers crossed.

Ron, I was just about to post the same news!
🥂 🎉 🎶
I am not surprised :)
-
I am overjoyed at this political news.
-
And the food jokes, of course. :)
-
We watched the re-opening concert of David Geffen Hall with the NY Philharmonic on PBS. Beethoven's Ninth.
-
The bass soloist eschewed the traditional tux for a polka-dot number that exposed his bare chest.
-
'night
-
I wonder how the Senate news will impact the Georgia runoff. Will the Republicans still spend so much money on the campaign, now that they still can't get control? Will Republican voters still turn out? 'Twill be interesting. I'd love to win the seat and sideline Manchin, though.
-
Then we continued on to the first episode of Annika.
-
Where are the remaining episodes of Magpie Murders?
-
Seven!
-
Good night, friends.

Vixmom’s favorite (NOT), the musical version of From Here to Eternity, is being revised and revived in London.
Oh Lordy that was terrible …think it’s the only time I walked out of a show .
It would need a LOT of revision IMHO before I coukd be dragged back to watch it again
-
I am amazed by all this s**w talk
-
I went out today in a T shirt and hoody
-
( and jeans, I hasten to add)
-
And had to take off the hoody because it was too darn hot
-
I know global warming and climate change is bad
-
But I am enjoying the current weather
-
Good evening.
-
The conference is over and I am relaxing in a motel room. I have an actual television, and interestingly, nothing worth watching.
-
Laura, there is never anything to watch on TV. Well, until Sami debuts.
-
Vixmom, glad you remembered the jeans.
-
Back from dancing.
-
Finally returning to Let Them All Talk. Dianne Wiest is so good. Candace Bergin is hilarious. Meryl Streep has a terrible character so far.
-
Fascinating story of a lost operetta called The Golden Cage that is being revived at just the right time.

-
Let me know if you can’t get past the paywall.
-
Ron, I was just about to post the same news!
🥂 🎉 🎶
I didn't mean to steal your thunder, former DR Lurker Iris.
:)
-
And now it is time for NOIR ALLEY on TCM.
No more snow yet......we shall see what we have by morning.
-
DR Ron, feel free to steal my thunder.
I can always provide more. 😊
-
George, what play?
It's called The Moors by Jen Silverman. Here's a short synopsis:
Two sisters and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, dreaming of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path. The Moors is a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility.
-
I will say that I didn't get it. :-\ It was kind of weird.

What is a vegetable and apple pie?
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Muse write some notes.

Quickly.

No time to waste.
-
None whatsoever.
-
What, everyone went on vacation all of a sudden?
-
They took a hike, went down some rabbit hole?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
They are rated PG.
-
I've read them.
-
They did not offend my sensibilities mainly because I have no sensibilities.
-
Has anyone noticed that everyone seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird?
-
Done a disappearing act.
-
I do occasionally have sense so shouldn't it follow that I have sensibility as well?
-
There is no one in the jernt but me, apparently.
-
I wonder if somewhere right now someone's in the kitchen with Dinah.
-
I think the name Dinah is poised for a comeback, don't you?
