Well, you've read the notes, the notes laid the cards and heaven knows what the cards felt about it, and now it is time for you to post until the laid cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GOUACHE!
-
So, I see a play called 2:22, I watch a movie called 2:22, and last night we closed out with 222 postings. Eerie.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Many people don't know that in Meredith Willson's first draft, the song was called "Erie, Indiana."
-
Which is weird, because Erie is in Pennsylvania.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did not want to get out of bed this morning. It was chilly, the bed was nice and warm, and Annabelle and I were snugly settled in for a long winter's nap. I resent the alarm from 5:45 to 6:15, and then turned it off so we could snuggle as long as we wanted. Thatch and Stella stopped by to check on us, but it was nice to sleep in for a change.
-
I must try to do the laundry this morning. It all depends if someone beats me to the washers.
-
I loved last night's food jokes, and I'm happy to see that Dear Lurker Iris lurks no more.
-
DR Ginny, I'm with DR TCB: what is a vegetable and apple pie? Do I want the recipe for my book Dishes for Your Disposal?
-
Last night we watched the first three hours of Martin Chuzzlewit again. I usually stay with PBS but I had seen last night's episode of Midsomer Murders too many times in the past couple of years
-
DR John G. - that article was behind a paywall, but fortunately, I have a subscription. Fascinating!
-
A very happy BIRTHDAY WISH to Richard, the DH of DR Ginny!
-
Today is the birthday of Richard Palmer, my best friend through junior and high school and husband of our DR Ginny. Nine years ago today we had a mini HHW reunion to celebrate Richard's birthday at the late great Artie's.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I remember that evening with great pleasure. If I'm not mistaken, it was my first time meeting DR Ginny and DH Richard in person, and I think DR vixmom as well. I had previously met Ben and Jose. I also brought some pumpkin thing for DR Elmore from Stew Leonard's -- was it their cookies? And finally, that evening was my first time at Artie's, a comfortable and delicious place, the loss of which still burns my ASS.
-
I'm laying my cards on the table, playing it as it lays, and paying cash on the barrelhead.

That was such fun!!

I would like to offer my most humble apologies to my fellow northeastern residents.
I bragged about the weather yesterday and now it is cold and rainy
Mea culpa

Wordle then church

Not necessarily in that order.
-
I miss Stew Leonard's.

I used to go to the flagship store in Norwalk when it was still Clover Farms.

Great picture!

I wonder how former DR Ben is doing?

Today, I'll be ushering for the Washington Center Reopening Celebration (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/the-washington-center-reopening-celebration/)! They remodeled the interior over the last several months and it looks great! After that, I'll go to my mom's, then come home. :)
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all.

Sunday morning greetings!
DR Ginny, I'm with DR TCB: what is a vegetable and apple pie? Do I want the recipe for my book Dishes for Your Disposal?
DRs TCB and Elmore, yesterday I made vegetable SOUP and apple pie. Sorry to gross you out.

It might have been something like pumpkin, but, yeah, the combination didn’t sound great.

That was such fun!!
Indeed it was! Richard and I had New York trips 3 Novembers in a row, all around this time.
-
I googled it. No apple vegetable pie recipes came up.
Maybe as a savory pie with potatoes, parsnips and onions.

And bacon.

Happy Birthday to DH RICHARD!
-
We received NO additional s**w last night so that was good.
And none is predicted for the next couple of days - and that is also good.
-
And here is an Indiana geography lesson:
North Vernon is south, South Bend is north, and French Lick is nothing like it sounds.
-
Thank you, DR Jrand72.
There isn’t going to be a pop quiz later, is there?
-
DR Ginny, was one of your November visits in 2012 by any chance? Because now I'm wondering if I might indeed have met you in person prior to Artie's in 2013.

DR ChasSmith, our November trips were in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

;)
I still cannot believe this lying bitch won!
-
No pop quiz DR CHAS SMITH - just facts you can use to amaze your friends at smart dinner parties.
-
Nice Spaw day video DR ELMORE.
-
That cat video is incredible.
-
DR elmore3003's three are saying, "Where's our turn?"
-
In fact, I wouldn't mind, myself.
-
But I would settle for curling up on a comfy recliner in front of a roaring fire with a blanket, a book, and a plate of Christmas cookies.
-
Well, at least I've got a book and a blanket.
-
So I'm half way there.
-
It really seems that you have to jump on these big classical box sets when they are first issued, or they become unavailable and extremely expensive.
-
Did we say three?
-
Page Three.
-
That was one pampered kitty
-
It really seems that you have to jump on these big classical box sets when they are first issued, or they become unavailable and extremely expensive.
Yep. That's why I wish I'd jumped several years ago when the first ones were being released. Actually, probably more than several.

From DR Singdaw:
Where are the remaining episodes of Magpie Murders?
Do you mean episodes 5 & 6 which should air tonight?

Sweet cat in the video :)
-
DR elmore3003's three are saying, "Where's our turn?"
I'm not letting my three see it,
-
I just read the post office is saying to avoid dropping mail into the blue mail boxes as they are more prone to fraud during the holiday season.
-
DR JANE I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that the USPS admits such a thing.
-
All of the s**w is now gone from the ground and most of the rooftops in the neighborhood.
Temp is 36 degrees - but I like the direction this is taking.
-
DR JANE I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that the USPS admits such a thing.
I think it is good they admit it, just very sad that it is probably true.
-

Definitely in the right direction.
-
It is currently 39 degrees here. I am not happy.

Making stock from a rotisserie chicken carcass.
-
Watching James Stewart’s first starring role, Next Time We Love. Sweet melodrama with Margaret Sullavan. It’s not as good as Shop Around the Corner, but what is?
-
Do you mean episodes 5 & 6 which should air tonight?
Thank you, DR Jane - that helps!

I can vamp for a few more posts.

Will you be spending Thanksgiving with your sister and your mother, DR John G.?

Every day getting sadder and damp, he …
-
Will you be spending Thanksgiving with your sister and your mother, DR John G.?
Nope. Going to my dance instructor’s house for Chinese hot pot.
-
I am eyeing a recipe for cheesy bacon corn dip.
-
And you, Singdaw?
-
That sounds nice, DR John G.
-
Will be driving to southern MN to celebrate with the mother-in-law.
-
Wish I could be with my own mother in New Jersey.

Both our fathers have been gone for many years now.

They've "been taken," as the Christian Scientists say.

Tomorrow will be the 122nd birthday of Aaron Copland.
-
Well, the movie ended very abruptly. And over the end credits was a message, “A Universal cast is worth repeating.”
-
Happy birthday, DC Aaron
Deceased Composer, that is.
-
I’m starting a movie DR Ron recommended, Mrs Palfrey at the Clairmont.
-
But I think a nap is in order.
-
Do you mean episodes 5 & 6 which should air tonight?
Thank you, DR Jane - that helps!
Good. I was worried when I first read your post, then remembered they air tonight. I want to finish the series before we leave.
-
Will you be spending Thanksgiving with your sister and your mother, DR John G.?
Nope. Going to my dance instructor’s house for Chinese hot pot.
That sounds like a unique way to celebrate.
-
Wish I could be with my own mother in New Jersey.
Do you celebrate any holidays with your mother?
-
I’m starting a movie DR Ron recommended, Mrs Palfrey at the Clairmont.
I second his recommendation.
-
But I think a nap is in order.
I "napped" this morning when I should have gotten up.
-
I'm up, I'm up - over nine and a half hours of sleep. Good sleep it was, too.
-
Have gone through the emails.
-
Will think about food in a bit.
-
In a bit I'll think about food.
-
I may not eat food but I'll think about it.
-
Then again, I may both think about and eat food.
-
Not necessarily in that order.
-
DR Jane - just the annual family week in late July.
-
I forgot to mention that I also watched the film of Ira Levin's novel, Sliver. It's horrible and the disgustingly awful screenwriter probably read an outline of the novel because the film is so different. Apparently, the movie tested so poorly that they changed who the killer was, which makes hash of everything. I truly believe that Joe Esterhaz was one of the worst screenwriters in history, despite his several hit films, none of which I cared for and yes that includes Basic Instinct and Jagged Edge. Sliver followed Basic Instinct and Showgirls followed that but that didn't stop idiots at the studios from paying him 1.5 million for a two-page outline of Jade, and 2.5 million for a four-page outline of One Night Stand. That script was so rewritten the he took his name off the film. All those films flopped. After that there were three more flops and he hasn't been heard from as a screenwriter since 2006.
-
When we lived on the East Coast we were with her for all the holidays and about once a month.
-
Not that Sliver is Mr. Levin's best, but it still has good things in it and as always he was about ten or more years ahead of the curve in terms of how we are giving away all our privacy.
-
How can all these smart money people in Hollywood be so dumb?
-
I thought this was a smart tip.
-
Another sunless day.
-
A day without sunshine is like a day without... sunshine.
-
You heard it here, folks.
-
I cannot lie.
-
Lay?

Oil of Olay.
-
Olé!

Richard says, “Thank you for the birthday wishes!” to DRs Singdaw, Elmore, George, John G, KevinH, JRand, and Jane.
-
Good afternoon.
-
Happy Birthday, Fr. Richard!
-
I am home. Those LA freeways are something else. Scary, sometimes.
-
DR Jane - just the annual family week in late July.
Hopefully not when it rains. It sounds fun to have an entire week together.
-
When we lived on the East Coast we were with her for all the holidays and about once a month.
I miss being on the same coast as my children.

I thought this was a smart tip.
I have seen this for years and still haven't done it ;D

Richard says, “Thank you for the birthday wishes!” to DRs Singdaw, Elmore, George, John G, KevinH, JRand, and Jane.
Please tell him he is welcome.

Ushering for Champions of Magic tonight.
-
Might be a long evening. We’ll see.
-
Happy Birthday, Fr. Richard!
Thank you, DR Laura, and welcome home!
-
When we lived on the East Coast we were with her for all the holidays and about once a month.
I miss being on the same coast as my children.
We just had a very glitchy video chat with Rob and Charlotte.
-
Those glitchy chats are frustrating.
-
I am home. Those LA freeways are something else. Scary, sometimes.
That they are. I don't care for the ones up in Portland either.
-
Even though I saw it reported that that idiot Boebert had lost, she hasn't lost, not yet. Apparently, the "lost" thing came from idiots on Twitter being stupid and naturally that was picked up by others - I saw it on YouTube.
-
Those glitchy chats are frustrating.
They really accentuate the distance. I often wonder if my mother-in-law realized how fortunate she was to have all 5 of her grandchildren within an hour’s drive.

I meant to mention this last night. Fingers crossed.

Still hoping.

Yet I would be grateful to be as close to my children as you are.

It is early yet, but I'm wiped.
-
Considering retiring early.
-
TO bed, that is.
-
Not retiring retiring.
-
That is many many many many years off.

Yes, I know, DR Jane. I keep reminding myself of that.
-
Did I mention many?
-
I read a very thoughtful mini-essay on stereotypes and changing societal norms and how to engage (or not) with films or programs (or even cartoons) that society may have left behind. I don't know what the answers are, but it was interesting.
-
I meant to mention something about the NY Philharmonic program that we watched on Great Performances. The quick-cut editing of contemporary movies has invaded the world of classical music broadcasting now. Every shot was a camera in motion, and they kept changing shots every few seconds. It was dizzying and nauseating. I feel it cheapens serious music. But they must thing that you have to do that to remain relevant and with it.
-
Fie on them, I say.
-
Good night, friends.

Lots of funny stuff here (better than the show they are from, IMO). The one at about 8:01 had me crying with laughter.

The magic show was wonderful. And I don’t want to know how they did any of it.

-
Hi, George.
Hi, Tom.
-
BK, did I miss in the notes where you finished HOLIDAY INN? I didn’t ‘t care for the first 20 minutes, but I really enjoyed the show once they got to the farm.
-
I haven't finished it yet. I will today.
-
Page seven doesn't seem right?
-
Nor does it seem left.
-
It's just sitting there like a dead herring in the moonlight.
-
Somewhere out there there must be a page eight.
-
I know it.
-
I feel it.
-
It's lurking.
-
That is poetic!
-
But we're a long way away, I fear.
-
I fear we're a long way away.
-
I don't know that for a fact, of course.
-
I just feel it.
-
Meanwhile, new notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
Meanwhile.
-
Back at the ranch.
-
Very long notes today.
-
Really long. Usually notes are two to three pages long in Word.
-
Today's are five pages long because off I went on a tangent.
-
Then a tangent went on me.
-
I hate when that happens.
-
Well, well, well, what do you know - page eight in all its glory.
-
But we're a long way away, I fear.
Or cape fear.
