Well, you've read the notes, the notes flew by, and now it is time for you to post until the flying cows come home - they're currently watching the flying Wallendas.
-
And the word of the day is: INCENTIVE!
-
Well, everyone's sleeping in apparently.
-
Where have all the hainsies gone?
-
I suppose I should get some sleep.
-
I suppose I should.
-
I suppose I will.
-
Starting here, starting now.
-
What am I, Maltby and Shire all of a sudden?
-
Good morning, friends.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I didn't sleep badly last night, but around 4 this morning my left knee join began some very serious aching. I tried to relax and concentrated on cuddling with Thatch who lay next to me and Annabelle who was buried under the blankets somewhere around my knees.
-
I now have a week with no commitments, My next doctor appoinyment is a week from today. I sent my invoice for the UK work on Sunday, and the money landed in my bank yesterday. I think they might be my best employer since BK, who always paid very promptly.
-
I've been thinking about the TOD. I've read a ton of whodunnits and seen a ton of movies and I cannot think of a single one at the moment beyond Witness for the Prosecution, which I really love!
-
Lately, I've really been enjoying the Thursday Murder Club mysteries by Richard Osman. There are currently three books in the series. Funny and delightful, with good mysteries and a surprising amount of heart.
-
Eight years ago today I posted this on Facebook:
And I am home from a wonderful show, Kritzerland at the Triad, featuring the songs of the Sherman Brothers. It was quite a wonderful evening and Bruce Kimmel was a charming, funny host, just the kind you want because you know that with him as a guide the journey will be fun, a little crazy perhaps, and full of heart.
What a wonderful evening that was!

~~~JOINT VIBES~~~ for DR elmore3003!!!!!
~~~FEEL BETTER PRONTO VIBES~~~ for DR TCB!!!!!!

More s**w predicted for today.
-
DR ChasSmith - good luck. I frequently get a "delivered" notification from Amazon, only to find that the package actually arrives the following day.
-
Good morning to all

Deathtrap (play not the movie)
Murder on the Orient Express (Albert Finley)
Witness For the Prosecution (film)

I found the information about Joe Brooks in today's Notes quite interesting. I remember when "You Light Up My Life" (the song) was quite the hit and ever-present.

Good morning, all.

First, because I know you all have been waiting breathlessly for the update:
The E&T Amazon packages were delivered - this morning - by a neighbor!
The driver went up the wrong long driveway (that is clearly marked with their address), and also just happened to neglect taking the now-standard photo of the packages where he or she or they or it put them. So at least our angry reports weren't in error, and we have the goods. And now we have an additional wrong delivery location to check when something’s missing.
-
BK:
Did anyone answer this yet? The kitchen faucet doo-hickey is called an aerator. Take that one to a Home Depot or any place that sells household hardware type stuff, and get a new one in that size. In my experience, they're threaded and get screwed in, but maybe there are pop-in ones, too.
-
DR ChasSmith to the rescue!
-
Two.
-
Anyone ready for Christmas music?
-
On This Day in 1956, a little musical called Li'l Abner opened on the Great White Way.
-
I enjoyed the notes - the comments on SEE HOW THEY RUN which I agree with - although I may have found the movie a bit more fun than MR BK did.
I also liked hearing about YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE/THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL connections.
-
Good morning!

We're supposed to have some s**w this afternoon - we shall see.
My brother has had my PT Cruiser for three weeks now - his van is getting work done on the transmission.....hopefully it will be fixed sometime this week. I don't NEED two cars. But I like to have a choice. And the Smart Car is not a good drive in snow.
My brother always takes his cars for repair to some man who goes to his church.....it's way the hell out of town down in the boondocks.
His car would be repaired more quickly and more reliably if he took it to an actual Car Repair Place....and I think this guy charges way too much....
-
Glad to hear the packages for DR CHAS SMITH & Co showed up.

Good morning, all.

It is, presently, 48 degrees in Johnston SC. We are predicted to have showrs -- sometimes heavy -- throughout the day.
The weatherman has found it wise to advise us that if are expecting packages to be delivered we should make every effort to get them inside as the rain may soak through.
Gee! Who'd a thunk it?!

I found the information about Joe Brooks in today's Notes quite interesting. I remember when "You Light Up My Life" (the song) was quite the hit and ever-present.
It's my favorite song to hate forever. It played all the time. ALL THE TIME. OVER AND OVER!! Not only would it be playing on just about every radio station while I was driving, but I would hear it played in malls, elevators, etc.
I got so sick of it I swore I'd slap the next person I heard singing it silly if I ever heard it again.
Debby actually didn't have much a a singing career other than "that" song, did she!

Has anyone here ever heard of this?

Lenny Gatto and I served together in several places, including Naples, Italy. Unfortunately, we had a major falling out when, during the 2016 election, he claimed the Democrats couldn't be patriots because Hillary's stage had only ONE American flag. The Donald surrounded himself with about 15 or so flags. Trump does that to this day. It's his "beard", in my opinion. By falling out, I mean Lenny and I stopped communicating on Facebook.
Not a loss for me, and likely for him, either....except we still see each other's comments in the posts of mutual friends.
-
If any of you read the background info on Lenny, don't put too much store into his alleged assocation with the U.S. Embassy as a liaison officer. To my knowledge, he was never on their payroll. The consulates are in Milan, Florence and Naples. He was closest to Milan which was several hundred miles away from Vicenza. If one helps a consulate over the telephone make contact with someone in your city, you may call yourself a "liaison". Am fairly sure that's the extent of that association in that story.
When he was in northern Italy, he was retired, and also worked at the commissary of the U.S. army garrison in Vicenza (Caserma Ederle). His wife is Italian and they had friends/family connections in Vicenza.
-
I've pretty much accomplished all I need to take care of this morning, and I'm pondering the rest of my day. At the moment, I'd like a nap.

Topic of the Day: I will say that the play version of A Murder is Announced is a new favorite whodunit.

I've had an adventure!
I took the garbage to the basement. While I was sorting the trash into various bins, the running dryer stopped. Shortly thereafter, a young man I did not recognize came in and started taking the laundry out of the dryer. I said hello and asked if he was new in the building since I thought I pretty much knew everyone. He said he lived in 2A and moved in in Januiary. He left and I did my stretch exercises. When I went to the elevator I saw it was still on 2, which surprised me since it usually returns to the first floor.
-
I pressed the button to call the elevator and nothing happened. After a minute I tried again. Nothing. On my third trie, the elevator shut down, and I realized I was stuck in the basement with no cell phone to call for help. So I started yelling for help. After some time of my calling, I heard a voice. It was my first floor neighbor Diana, a wonderful lady. I yelled something like "I'm stuck!" And she said she would call for help. A few minutes later, she called down the shaft that she had called 911 and firemen were on their way. I was leaning on my walker and my right knee was in a great deal of pain.

Nice.

Lately, I've really been enjoying the Thursday Murder Club mysteries by Richard Osman. There are currently three books in the series. Funny and delightful, with good mysteries and a surprising amount of heart.
I love these books.
-
As for Ms. Boone’s singing career, it included her recording with BK.
-
Soon, I could hear sounds of action coming from the shaft, which meant the firemen had arrived. As I watched the panel on the call button, I could see it light up "2 . . . F . . . 2 . . . FM . . . 2 . . . FM . . . .2 before it went dark. Not long after that I heard the door to the street in the laundry room opening and a young, blond, nicely assembled firemen - truly one of the handsomest men I've ever seen - came around the corner to me. He said "You're here! We thought you were trapped inside the elevator and there was no one there." So, he called someone on his walkie-talkie and explained my whereabout. Then a couple more firemen showed up from the laundry room door.
-
Had to fix that misplaced modifier. Mea culpa.
-
That is quite the adventure, Elmore. And a firefighter, too.
-
DR ELMORE is still stuck in the basement....we need an update stat.
-
They explained that the young man on 2 must have dropped his chap stick. It had blocked the door. A minute later, the fireman on two started the elevator and the blond fireman, my walker, and I rode to one, where Diana and MaryAnne who lives on the fifth floor were waiting. I picked up the mail, visited a few minutes, and then came home. The entire adventure lasted around fifty minutes.
-

Good news that they didn't lie and you have your packages. Did you let Amazon know?
-
DR RON PULLIAM that musical seems pretty specific in its target audience.....but I could be wrong.
-
Chas, had you seen a photo would you have recognized your neighbor's front door?
-
Anyone ready for Christmas music?
;D

I had to check my bank account online to make sure my pittance from the Public Employees' Retirement Fund had been deposited.
Sure enough - there is was. My checkbook now reflects the reality of it.

I am trying to remember if I saw the film version of EVITA.....I think I have the soundtrack CD - but I just don't remember.....
-
SEE HOW THEY RUN - which I at first thought was a film version of the funny play with half a dozen vicars running around - was my first real introduction to Sis Ronan.
I am in agreement with MR BK that she is very good and was the best thing about the film. I liked her character a lot - especially when she was talking about knowing Richard Attenborough from his movie Brighton Rock.
-
"Rain Soaked Packages" is the title of the I Want song in my new musical UPS AND USPS.

Now when I see people flying the American flag I think of the Proud Boys, Trump, and anti-Americans.

The last time the elevator was out, someone doing the laundry had dropped a sock that got stuck in the door.
-
If anybody wants to be my neighbor - the house next door was just reduced by $10,000.

Tuesday afternoon greetings! I am in for the day, doing desk work before 2 Zoom commitments later this afternoon & evening.
-
Socks cause all kinds of problems. They are the troublemakers of attire.
-
Ah thanks DR JOHN G - I must not have seen it.....
-
Oh, my, DR Elmore, that's quite an adventure!
-
Zoom meeting fun vibes for DR GINNY.
-
Pop star casting. Perhaps if EVITA had been written earlier we might have had Connie Francis in the titular role.....or Annette!

Whoa. What an adventure on DR Elmore!
I take it there isn't a chair down there you could have sat in while waiting for the firemen. Is there room for one?

-
Chas, had you seen a photo would you have recognized your neighbor's front door?
Probably not. It's not someone we ever have occasion to visit. We only ever see them down at the base of the driveways, going in or out. But what the photo would have told us is that it was definitely left at a wrong address.
-
I tried to update or leave a followup comment on Amazon as to what WE found out had happened. But the system doesn't allow a second report, and I have absolutely zero desire to attempt getting on the phone with them and getting any kind of satisfaction out of making it clear where THEIR process failed.

Zeffirelli’s version of Romeo and Juliet is coming to Criterion.

Lately, I've really been enjoying the Thursday Murder Club mysteries by Richard Osman. There are currently three books in the series. Funny and delightful, with good mysteries and a surprising amount of heart.
Do you have to read them in order?
-
I would recommend doing so, DR John G.
-
The mysteries are self-contained, but the character development follows an arc.
-
DR elmore3003 - did you invite the blond firefighter up for tea?
-
Serious happenings on the world stage...

Putin just goofed.

Four.

Yes, and maybe the driver would have returned for it. Fortunately your neighbor was home to collect it.

Exactly.

George, I am about to read the article under the headline "Russian missiles cross into Poland during strike on Ukraine".
-
Whoa. What an adventure on DR Elmore!
I take it there isn't a chair down there you could have sat in while waiting for the firemen. Is there room for one?
There used to be two chairs in the laundry room. Several months ago I asked the management for their return.
-
DR elmore3003 - did you invite the blond firefighter up for tea?
No, but my libido has been in overdrive since then.
-
Yes, he sure did!
-
Putin just goofed.
What happened?? ???
Russian missiles hit Poland, killed two.

Well, the Grammy nominations have been announced! The ones I care about are:

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.

But I'm up, nonetheless.

I was thinking about today's food last night. I have all the ingredients for Wacky Noodles here so that was the answer until I realized I don't have cream of mushroom soup. Damn. So, I either go out and get it, or I do something else altogether.

Darrell Brooks can't stop. At the sentencing hearing, the victim statements were given - quite a few heart-wrenching stories, while he sat there and rolled his eyes upwards, pretended to read his bible, at times acted like he was possessed, I mean the full show. Then he couldn't shut up - this was not his time to interrupt for any reason, but he did and he was immediately removed from the courtroom, until he contritely asked to come back a few minutes later. Then, when the prosecution was giving their thoughts about sentencing and recounting his endless criminal history, some of it quite serious, and most of it not dealt with by a failed court system in various counties, who continually let him off the hook, he had the temerity to sit there and say, "I'm not gonna be disrespected." Well, yes, you are because you're a murdering piece of scum who deserves zero respect from anyone. I believe and trust that once his three people (he originally said it would be more than twenty) speaking on his behalf are heard, and once he gives what I'm sure will be an endless tirade about HIM as victim, he will be sentenced to the maximum extent of the law. He'll appeal, of course, but since the judge in this case did everything right, his appeal will be laughed out of court.
-
And then Trump, trying as he always does to shift the focus of all HIS losses during this election AND all his potential criminal indictments, supposedly has a big announcement at six/nine. IF he does announce that he's running, I hope that he is stopped from doing so, based on all his potential criminal prosecutions or, at the very least, I hope he can't use running for president as a shield from them - that's what has to be stopped in its tracks. I do believe that many Republicans have had it with him and their losses in this election have shown them that he's a liability rather than a help. The hope would be that another candidate would win over him in a primary, but I do believe even if he's the nominee, he will lose the election.
-
I made some noodles with butter and cheese - the two bagels that were left, which I'd planned on eating, were not fresh enough, not even toasted, so all I had was the five ounces of noodles. Whether that will be enough, time will tell. I never left the house today. And I've done no work because I have had one irritant after another.
-
When will Brooks actually receive his sentence?
-
Oh, and the silly Broadway World nominations are out - I purposely didn't submit Kritzerland this year because why bother. But LA Now and Then is up in most categories that involve musicals, so please go vote asap. https://www.broadwayworld.com/los-angeles/voteregion.cfm
-
I read an interesting article about the fact that Trump could actually run, and become the next president while in prison.
-
I suppose it depends what crime puts him in prison.
-
If it is for the events of January 6th, then he can't run. I don't believe that will ever happen.
-
Bruce who should I vote for for best performer?
-
I am stalled in voting. I hope I don't time out.
-
Since Bruce didn't answer my questions I guessed. Not on the first question and it really wasn't important.
-
I voted.
-
I voted for Danika Masi - she did an incredible job in the show. Now, everyone else - VOTE!
-
Wouldn't it be nice if Trump's announcement was that he wasn't going to run? That in the best interest of the Republican party and the country, he'll sit it out?
-
That would be heaven.
-
Does he have that in him to do? I'd say history has shown us that he doesn't.
-
Now, where in tarnation IS everyone? Voting?
-
Eating?
-
Doing the Limbo?
-
What the HELL is going on here?
-
We need action, baby.
-
Two articles of note in the latest issue of Gramophone magazine. An interesting article about yet the latest remastering of Solti's recording of Wagner's Ring Cycle. BK would enjoy it because it goes into geeky detail about the master tapes and various sources and technical specs and how they have been manipulated with engineering.
Also, an article comparing all the various recordings of Britten's War Requiem. My, there have been so many.
-
If we need action, do we also need baby John?
-
A West Side Story reference.
-
I will vote.
-
Six!

We should have been off this page posts ago. Are we being gaslit?

It is my civic duty.

Finally, page six.

My goodness Elmore! I am glad your adventure had a happy ending

Tomorrow, I'll try to find the nearest Home Depot and see if they have a replacement aerator for the kitchen faucet.
-
Tried to watch Joe Brooks' follow up to You Light Up My Life - If Ever I See You Again - lightning did not strike twice. He had the chutzpah to put himself in the leading role - as therapy for his stutter. He's terrible, of course, and Shelly Hack is almost worse. Some of our folks worked on it, but not to the extent of the other film.

I gotta tell you.

I don't want to go to YouTube right now, for obvious reasons.

Obvious Reasons is also the title of my next novel.

It might have been something else altogether.

Yes! I've only been to the Tumwater Denny's once (it opened just before everything shut down) and decided that tonight was the day to try it again...so I did. We'll see if they're any good.

I'll go through the categories while I'm here at Denny's. :)

Just had to share. ;)

And now, to vote!

Vote as if your sanity depended on it.

So, if Trump was announcing something at six, it's now almost six-thirty. And not a peep anywhere about anything.
-
The first film in which I saw Saoirse Ronan perform was Atonement.
She was excellent, and was nominated for an Oscar that year.
She was 13 years old.

I have also enjoyed her performances in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brooklyn, and Lady Bird.

He did file and announce. Per MSNBC.
-
Sigh.
-
I will not be watching anything tonight.
Maybe not tomorrow either.
Might stop watching all cable news networks for awhile, and just read.
-
Especially now that Singdaw has confirmed the announcement.
Time for me to take a break.
Have no desire to hear about that evil man 24 hours/day.
-
Let me know when he’s indicted, in prison, or dead.
-
Well, it doesn't mean much at all right now. He's not the nominee, although he'll act as if he is. He's a pig - always has been, always will be. And this won't save him, hopefully. Indictments will hopefully come, one after another.
-
I wholeheartedly agree, DR Iris.
-
Another page turn is in the offiing.
-
Oh yes.
-
It's not long now.
-
No more gaslighting.
-
Eight!
-
Good night, friends.
-
Nice to see that Grant Geissman has been nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental for his album “Blooz”.
-
Jacob Collier was nominated in the category of Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals.
-
If you haven’t checked out Jacob Collier, I highly recommend doing so.
He’s a genius, IMHO.
Check YouTube to begin, and then keep going.

Good night, HHW.

Interestingly, there is not a peep about any announcement on YouTube - weird.
-
tonight we are watching the last episode of Magpie Murders.

Vote as if your sanity depended on it.
I have voted!

He did file and announce. Per MSNBC.
Ugg. :P

Let me know when he’s indicted, in prison, or dead.
Agreed!!

All excellent

Watching more of Carmen, not the opera. Interesting little movie.
-
So, I had the one-piece chicken-fried chicken with two sides and garlic bread from Denny's (not either of their larger regular chicken-fried chicken meals).
-
It was WAY too much food, but it wasn't too bad...not great, but not bad.
-
I am totally full! :P
-
We were out at Ihop for dinner
-
On the way home we were listening to the radio and the don’t yiu miss me speech came on
-
We listened to,a little of it but shut it off before our heads exploded from all the lies
-
I guess I am going to be finding out where to volunteer to help young people register to vote as soon as they turn 18
-
We need to get every single eligible young person registered and voting
-
We need to remind the boomer generation about what we learned in the 60’s and 70’s
-
In the fascinating department, there is still not a single peep about a Trump announcement or even a live stream of his appearance - very weird to me.
-
Makes me wonder why?
-
I just don't want to watch this Thirteen Lives movie - I tried, but apparently there's a documentary that's much better and real.
-
So, I might try that.
-
There aren't many movies I know of that interest me.
-
Still thinking about having a little something else to eat as the noodles weren't really enough, I don't think.
-
I suppose I could drive somewhere and get something smallish, but I really am not in the mood to leave the house.
-
Page nine it is. I'm feeling page ten in my bones. What page ten is doing in my bones is another story.
-
But it's a long way away but we have many hours to get there and perhaps beyond.
-
Welcome 102 GUESTS! That's a lot of GUESTS.
-
Starting The Gilded Age. I can tell I’m going to like it.

Good night, all.
-
Wait a minute - let me get this straight - no TCB, no George, no nothing since 8:30??? Have I got that right?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes but I am NOT changing the topic until someone makes an appearance.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Most unseemly - three-and-a-half hours without a post. Pish tosh.
-
Tosh pish.
-
I thought we might even make page eleven, but noooooo, we're not even gonna make page ten.
-
We had over 100 lurkers earlier - but not a single visit after eight-thirty from any dear reader.
-
What in tarnation is going on here?
-
Lordy, what a revoltin' development this is.
-
Well, nothing to be done about it, I suppose.
-
What will it be - the old I fell asleep thing or the I was playing Phase Twenty thing or I went down the rabbit hole thing.
-
I do understand that TCB has not been feeling well.
-
Okay, I do NOT want to be on this page anymore.
-
It's really that simple.
-
I shall not be having it.
-
Not one iota.
-
Not one Whit Bissell.
-
Not a jot.
-
Okay, now I'm being gaslit, clearly.
-
We cannot still be page nine. It's just not done.
-
Okay, we'll see if someone shows up to take us to page ten. Until THAT happens, we're staying where we are.
-
That's just the way it is.
