Morning, Vixmom. :)
-
I'm now off to bed...finally. 8)
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
How many times have I written that post, I wonder?
-
~~~CONTINUED MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!!!!
-
The first and only time I saw Jeanne Dielman was when I was in college. Would be curious to see it again now, but my it does require patience and stamina.
-
Not necessarily in that order.
-
But if you must know how to peel potatoes, there's your go-to.
-
I read an interesting online exchange in a BookFace forum dedicated to the "Live in HD" transmissions from the Metropolitan Opera. Basically, they were complaining about the camera direction and how the intense focus on close-ups was to the detriment of establishing the geography of the stage and the overall stage picture. BK knows about this and has written about it, particularly in reference to the ballet, where it is even more crucial. Aside from missing the acting going on from the stage characters who are not singing at the moment, and the relationships, stage makeup is meant to be seen from the audience, and not in extreme HD closeup. In any case, an interesting discussion.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The alarm rang st 5:30. I turned it off and went back to bed. At 6:20 I woke up.
-
Today I must proofread the wonderful Tea Party from Dear World, one of my favorite Jerry Herman concoctions. The tunes that end up in counterpoint - Dickie for Gabrielle, Voices for constance, and Thoughts for Aurelia - work together beautifully. Technically, their not complicated since they have to be sung together, but Phil Lang's orchestrations give each song a different tone, so that the counterpoint is a really delightful coda to the sequence.
-
The weekend will be "The Ballet": I need to find the style, So far, I'm just experimenting.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I would also say greetings from the car place, but I've already dropped the car off for its brake job* and Nathan brought me back home. We'll pick it up this evening.
*It needs other stuff, too, which will wait a bit.
-
I watched Jeanne Dielman once -- actually, if truth be told (and it must, it must), I think I may have fast-forwarded here and there -- on the Criterion Blu-ray. Obviously, if I FF'ed, I wasn't getting the real experience, and I do intend to have another go at it sometime. Of course, the real experience would be viewing it with an audience at the Nuart, and I don't believe that will be happening any time soon.
I didn't love it, didn't hate it, and I do have an interest in, and patience for, that kind of thing in general. Though I do better with Rivette's long slow films. But I need to return to this one anyway, because my potato peeling at Thanksgiving was somehow lacking this last time, and I need the refresher course.
-
Friday morning greetings! Slow start today and I suspect we’ll keep a pretty low profile all weekend.
-
Good morning!
This has been my complaint from the beginning, going back at least as far as the Berlioz La damnation de Faust in 2008. It's a favorite piece, and that production was such a unique thing to behold ..... which we were only permitted to behold for a precious few moments whenever they would deign to allow us a FAST glimpse of what the house audience could feast upon, and make sense of, throughout. I've now watched it a couple of additional times since, and it still feels like I've seen but a trailer's worth of the actual spectacle. They could just as well identify some of these as concert performances in costume.
In the 1990s, PBS broadcast the New York City Opera's production of Britten's wonderful Paul Bunyan, a puzzling and curious enough piece, as well as unfamiliar, that deserved a pretty much straight viewing. Instead, the PBS "director" chose to screw it up by making it a broadcast about stagecraft. Scenes were swhot from the theatre's flies, we watched flats being moved about, and the actual opera was lost in the shuffle. It was disgusting.
Another Access-a-Ride tomorrow to my pharmacy, then to barber.
-
I ran out of crystals, so I just used hot dogs.
-
I hope they were free range hot dogs DR singdaw. That's all I ever use for eating or decorating.
-
Continued writing vibes for MR BK.
-
Glad to hear that RICHARD is home!
-
So I wonder what DR IRIS said to David Crosby that sent him through the veil?
-
Well......this morning on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, a letter arrived at the Cleaver house that encouraged Ward & June to buy one of their children an ACCORDION.
Ward threw it away. Beaver found it and Eddie Haskell encouraged him to send it in. There followed many weeks of Beaver intercepting the mail that kept demanding $280 for the instrument.....which of course made so much noise, he couldn't play it in the house.
A couple of months went by. A man came to the door and demanded that Ward pay him for the accordion. Ward told the man that if there was an accordion in the house that he would EAT it.
And the accordion came down the stairs like a Slinky.
-
All of this is just to say that I think for his audition for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.....that DR GEORGE should sing "Where Is The Life That Late I Lead?" and accompany himself on the accordion.
I'm sure he would never be forgotten.
-
Sometimes I sing New York, New York or Cabaret. And when someone asks me who do I think I am....
I just reply Elijah Minnelli.
-
I'm here all week folks, don't forget to tip your server.
-
I went to the grocery, Dollar (25) Tree, and Goodwill this morning.
Two ladies in front of me at the Goodwill only had $100 bills....so that was a CODE 7!
And at WalMart I had a wobbly wheel on my cart so it was a struggle getting around the store with all my goods.
-
Congrats to DR VIXMOM.....I am encouraged to try the WORDLE today.
-
I'm sure he would never be forgotten.
;D
-
WORDLE in 4.
-
Well that killed 50 seconds.
Congrats!
-
From DR Iris:
Here’s something odd.
I was sharing a conversation with David Crosby on Twitter yesterday.
That is very surprising and interesting.
-
I would also say greetings from the car place, but I've already dropped the car off for its brake job* and Nathan brought me back home. We'll pick it up this evening.
*It needs other stuff, too, which will wait a bit.
Properly working breaks are very important.
Friday morning greetings! Slow start today and I suspect we’ll keep a pretty low profile all weekend.
Yes, have a relaxing weekend.
Code 7 ;D
-
AND there still wasn't any Dolly Parton cake/bake items - although I did see some Jonas Brothers Popcorn.
I didn't buy any.
-
All of this is just to say that I think for his audition for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.....that DR GEORGE should sing "Where Is The Life That Late I Lead?" and accompany himself on the accordion.
I'm sure he would never be forgotten.
But I actually want to be in the show...not just "never be forgotten." ;)
I just reply Elijah Minnelli.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
-
It'll probably take another twenty minutes for my eyeballs to focus and to be coherent enough to futz and finesse.
-
Futz and Finesse were a great songwriting team!
-
A slow day so far at HHW.
-
But we're on our way.
-
Three.
-
I think we used to have Futz & Finesse bath soap when we could afford it.
-
Or maybe it was laundry soap.
-
Or maybe.....sneakers.....
-
Gloomy day today here.....and ice & s**w predicted for later in the weekend.
-
Yay, the heater and gas fireplace guy is here. I hope it doesn't take all day to fix everything.
-
;) ;) ;)
-
Poor Fluffy.
-
I found a CD at Goodwill.....part of the Time-Life HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL series.....this one is 1959.
You have to be careful and read the labels - there are several CD's that have original songs and artists but they are re-recordings done many years after the original releases.
-
Everybody must be busy or asleep.
-
It is nice to have our fireplace working again.
-
The little gas fireplace gives off a little extra heat.
-
Very quiet day.
-
I am ready for a nap that isn't happening.
-
;) ;) ;)
Well, my audition time for Sunday has been confirmed for next Saturday at 10:30 a.m. :)
Now, to memorize!
-
Great. Memorizing vibes!
-
Good afternoon.
-
Crazy day.
-
Physical therapy was fun.
-
Not.
-
I am not a fan of Chantal Ackermann’s short movies. Boring. Not looking forward to Jeanne Dielmann.
-
I can peel a potato.
-
And what’s more, Baby, I can cook!
-
Ushering for a local production of Rent tonight.
-
Not.
I was expecting this post.
-
Have only a few minutes before we open the lobby.
-
I can peel a potato.
Progress.
-
Off to dinner with our friends that cancelled yesterday.
-
Thank you, Elmore. Explains a lot about abilities to make friends.
-
Four!
-
TOD:
New episodes of All Creatures and Mrs Scarlet. A new film of Balzac’s Lost Illusions. More Mothers-in-Law.
-
Wordle 3, Phoodle 6
-
Get outta town with this page four malarkey.
-
Barely page four.
-
If that.
-
Back from seeing episode eight - very little finessing to do - I think we swapped out two shots and fine cut a couple of shots, extending one, and losing some of the head from another. Very funny and the musical number, a duet, came out great.
-
Good Afternoon - late getting in today. Crazy busy day at work. Glad to be home for a little bit with the boys. Tonight, I'm heading up to SF to see Donna McKechnie at Feinstein's at the Nikko (Hotel), she's doing an all Sondheim evening. Should be really nice.
And for now, today's Wordle
That sounds thrilling, DR Matthew. Hope there will be a report later.
-
So for Sami, it's just the two final LA episodes, then.
-
I can peel a potato.
Peel me a grape.
-
Dave Frishberg.
-
Take heart, BK. Perhaps tomorrow Jeanne Dielman will roast a turkey.
-
Perhaps I will make a plum torte.
-
Perhaps DR John G. will go out tonight.
-
[a little Rent reference]
-
Actually, DR John G. is already out tonight.
-
In more ways than one.
-
If you know what I mean.
-
And I think you do.
-
~~~EXTRA-STRENGTH AUDITION VIBES~~~ for DR George for George.
-
Is there an echo in here?
-
We are a long way from page ten.
-
Mush we must.
-
Onward and upward.
-
Henceforth and forthwith.
-
We are still clinging to page four, however.
-
Like a cling peach clings to its pit.
-
It's the pits.
-
And yet
-
Page Five
-
Has reared its head.
-
If page five were a lion, it would have roared its head.
-
Great. Memorizing vibes!
Thanks, Jane!

Ushering for a local production of Rent tonight.
Enjoy! My next ushering isn't until next Saturday...I forget for what, though.
-
~~~EXTRA-STRENGTH AUDITION VIBES~~~ for DR George for George.
Thanks, Singdaw!
-
Well, I'm off to my mom's for some Phase 10 playing!
Until later!
-
Wrote about five pages so far, now taking a little break then will do five more, I'll take a break and then try to do five more.
-
We had a fun time with our friends.
-
'night
-
Sorry I have been absent.
-
My lower back has really been bothering me.
-
I still love you all! Well, most of you!
-
We have been having an early spring here. Cold but rather sunny.
-
We will probably have some showers tomorrow, but after that, it clears up again for the whole week.
-
I suppose that means we’ll have snow in March and April. Or worse!
-
It is kind of weird to see the beautiful sunshine and then walk outside and then find out it’s 40°. It just doesn’t fit.
-
What is this page five crap?
-
There must be a page six somewhere.
-
Am I getting close?
-
Nope!
-
I am getting a headache.
-
Sorry, DR TCB.
-
Thanks for stopping by.
-
Hope you feel better soon.
-
Back problems are no fun.
-
As DR vixmom will attest.
-
Just a few more now.
-
Piddle
-
Twiddle
-
Six.
-
And resolve.
-
Good night, friends.
-
As DR vixmom will attest.
If so requested, I will supply a written and notarized affidavit to attest to that fact
-
Bill was looking and sounding much better today
-
And has demanded oatmeal raisin cookies
-
I shall deliver them tomorrow
-
Thanks for the WFO report DR VIXMOM.
-
DR JANE I enjoy my gas fireplace as well. It's nice. It's in the living room s I don't use it much.
But I like to turn it on when I have guests on a cool day.....or a winter day.
-
Vibes for DR TCB.
-
I am wondering if I am still a writer - which is how I started out in theatre.....
I have an idea - not theatre related - but I am giving it some thought and I may give it a MR BK try in the next few weeks.
Time will tell.
-
Friday night.....
-
Not much happening right now.
I am awaiting the last two Director's Notes so then I can write an article about the 2023 season and LINK to all the information.
-
They have been promised for this weekend.
-
I am getting a headache.
~~~Headache-Be-Gone Vibes for Tom!!~~~
-
I still love you all! Well, most of you!
We won’t ask which column we individually fall in.
-
Excellent production. What I appreciated most was that it wasn’t too loud, the singers enunciated their lyrics and they gave it their all.
-
I’ve seen Rent before, live and the two filmed versions. It never affected the way it did tonight. The Angel was terrific. His death scene made me get all choked up.
-
We were told that about 150 tickets were sold. Maybe they papered some seats, but the house looked fairly full, which means about 225.
-
I next usher on Wednesday for Pink Martini. I’ve never gotten to usher for them before. And I was on the wait list for this performance until this week.
-
I finished two books today. I’m off to finish book three, a strange volume of poetry called A Wedding in Hell.
-
Looks like Rami Malek is going to play Buster Keaton in a limited series. I think that’s pretty good casting, though the teeth aren’t right.
-
Somehow I don’t seem to be getting near the next page.
-
But seven is somewhere around the corner.
-
Probably a corner far from me.
-
I also need to get ready for bed.
-
That means I have to ice the hand.
-
But first …
-
Let’s flip this page …
-
Now!
-
Seven!
-
Good night, all.
-
Bill was looking and sounding much better today
Very good news!
-
Please send our love to William F. Orr.
-
I’ve seen Rent before, live and the two filmed versions. It never affected the way it did tonight. The Angel was terrific. His death scene made me get all choked up.
I love it when that happens.
-
I've done nine pages so far and I think I'll take another break then write two or three more, do the notes, and finish up after I shower.
-
Page eight is waiting in the wings.
-
As am I.
-
My new Kindle case arrived! ;D
-
And I'm home. :)
-
Here's the cover:
-
And here it is opened:
-
And here's the spine:
-
The back is just the solid orange color.
-
Well, crap. >:(
-
After I attached the Velcro onto the back of my Kindle, I set it onto the cover with a piece of paper in between the hooks and loops of the Velcro so that it doesn't actually attach, yet.
-
The instructions say "If possible wait 24hrs before placing your device into your case."
-
I had the Kindle on, but when I just set it onto the cover where it would be, it turned off!
-
I couldn't turn it back on until I lifted it off the cover!! :o
-
WTF?? :P
-
Upset (to say the least) Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
New notes are up.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I guess page eight will be waiting in the wings until the twelfth of never.
-
Forever and a day.
-
Must get back to finishing more pages.
-
I really must.
-
Because that's the thing to do when one is writing, although now I may shower first.
-
George has gone down the Kindle book cover rabbit hole.
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
Page eight has made its long delayed entrance.
-
Page nine is out of luck, I'm afraid.
-
Oh, well...there's always tomorrow. ;)
-
Actually, I've started setting up my printer to be able to print stuff from my phone from anywhere in the world!
